Versatile Bike Rack for Your RV

Swagman Dispatch

5th Wheels, motorhomes, and travel trailers have different suspensions than standard commuter vehicles. The Dispatch is designed to handle the extra bounce and sway that results from being placed further away from your vehicle's rear axle. It also gives your bikes 5" higher clearance than most other RV-rated platform racks. But it's not just for your RV. You can also install it in the 2" hitch on your car, truck, or SUV.

Padded, Ratcheting Hooks

Swagman Dispatch Ratcheting Hooks

The Dispatch's mast has a pair of ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes securely by the top tube. And because they move independently, you can carry bikes of different shapes and sizes. The hooks have soft padding that won't scratch or scuff your bike's paint.

Sliding Wheel Cradles with Ratcheting Straps

Swagman Dispatch Adjustable Wheel Cradles

The wheel cradles slide to accommodate bikes with different wheelbases. Hand knobs let you release the cradles to slide along the bike tray and adjust for your specific bike lengths. Each cradle has a ratcheting strap so you can secure your bikes' wheels during transport. If you need to carry fat bikes, there are cradles (sold separately) that let you carry bikes with tires up to 5" wide.

Folding Design

Swagman Dispatch Folding Design

You can fold the mast down for easy access to your rear cargo area. Simply pull the spring-loaded release lever at the base of the mast and fold it down in either direction.

Seem heavy duty. Have not used it to transported my bikes. The only difficulty I had with the assembly dealt with the wheel cradles. They are not labeled left and right, front and rear. After installation, I discovered that one side of the cradle is higher ,viewing your videos I noticed that you put the higher end on the outside of both wheels. The aventon bikes weight 38 pounds with their battery removed. And this rack is rated at 45 pounds per bike. Therefore I think this rack will be able to transport my bikes safely on my Subaru Outback and my Forest River motorhome.

by:

This holds our two E-bikes perfectly behind our Jeep and while the Jeep is a toad. So far we have taken one drive of 300 miles.
The one issue we have is the locking cable with lock pin does not fit on the Jeep. It is too long. We had to use the regular pin that was also included. We are able to use the locking cable to lock the bikes to the Jeep though.

by:

After a year of use, moving it back a forth from 5th wheel to truck as needs arise, have found this rack to be very solid and easy to move( you do need a wrench though). Rack doesn’t bounce around when mounted on back of 5th wheel like some others I’ve seen. The locking cable is easy to use and heavy duty. I’d recommend this rack for use on back of any RV with a receiver hitch. Also it’s quick to adjust if you need change bikes your carrying.

by:

The Swagman Dispatch has been a great bike rack, I feel confident that it secures my bikes on the back of my camper for transport and versatile enough to put on my truck. Only improvement I’d like to see is making it foldable but understand why it’s not. Overall very satisfied!

by:

This is a solid bike rack. Assembly and installation was easy. One issue I have is that, the rack is so high that when the bikes are on the rack and covered, the taillights on the rv are partially blocked by it. I hope I don’t get pulled over for a safety violation

Comments
Works great! Gone about 10k miles with bike rack on back of my rv. Just recently I had to tighten the bolt that secures the rack to the hitch, otherwise no issues

Bought this for my toy hauler that has a hitch receiver. The reason is we have alot of toys that already fill the garage so there is no room for our mountain bikes. I bought this one as it is RV rated. Easy to install with about 15-20 minutes to finish. Travelled over 3200 miles with this installed and I can tell you there is next to no movement. It also has plenty of clearance to the ramp door of the rv, so there is no worry it would make contact and scratch. Would buy again.

by:

Love this bike rack. It’s easy to use and very sturdy & secure.

The rack exceeded my expectations. I attach it to my Winnebago Travato and my Jeep Wrangler. Using aluminum stock I made a tail light bar (the bikes can interfere with vehicle lighting) and a means to attach a plastic sewer hose tube for the RV. I do have a question. Is my rack as built capable of carrying electric bikes?

Comments
Thanks for the review and that is a good question. This rack is rated for forty five pounds per bike and the cradles fit tires up to three inches. If your electric bike is heavier and has wider tires, then you may like part # S64678
Swagman Current Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount
$349.94
. It close in price, holds two bikes, is the same brand, but is meant to carry heavy e bikes up to sixty pounds each with cradles to fit tires up to five inches wide.

Little hard on initial set up with the bikes but once set up they are steady as a rock. Good solid bike rack. I would still recommend using bungee cords to do a final wrap on each bike around the frames and rack

by:

I did a lot of research for the right bike rack. The quality and security of this rack is top notch. It was worth the investment. It locks the bikes up snug and they don’t wobble around. Putting it together was simple. I definitely recommend this one.

by:

We purchased this a year ago for the back of our teardrop trailer. It's one of the few that are trailer rated.

We have used this to bring our bikes with us camping. It has been amazing and fits perfectly on our trailer. After learning how to used it, which did not take long, it was very easy to attach and put our bikes on. We have the wheels set for specific bikes, my wife is on the inside and my bike is on the outside. The wheels are set to the size of the bike. Everything worked as described. I would buy it again.

by:

This is a solid and easy to use bike tray we keep on the rear of our 30' travel trailer. 2 MTB bikes go on it and we've had zero issues. The bike cable could be a little easier to use as you need to take the receiver bolt out to lock and unlock it, but it's extremely beefy. We bought a cover to go over the bikes while on it so everything stays dry and secure. We do some long trips (1k+ miles each way) with it. I also found that I had to move our bumper mounted spare tire to underneath the camper as, no matter how I positioned it or the bikes, it interfered with a pedal or handlebar. I love how quickly (if not covered or locked it's only a minute) I can load and unload 2 bikes now.

by:

This RV approved solution works great for us. We have a 42 ft 5th wheel and the bikes and hitch do not sway or move while we travel. Bikes are easy to mount. I added tie down strap between the rack frame and hitch frame for safety purposes in addition to what the hitch provides. Delivery was delayed a few months which is not an etrailer issue. Julie H did a great job keeping me in the loop.

by:

Solid carrier. Have towed one ebike and one regular on back of rv several trips (over 2500 miles) with great results. Great carrier.

by:

Awesome bike rack. This works perfectly for us. Had to reverse the arms for a better fit but bikes didn’t move at all during our maiden 300 mile trip. Very sturdy construction and easy to assemble. I sent in a few questions and Mark answered them without hesitation and that alone sold me on the purchase. Mark was very knowledgeable. Thanks

by:

Works great on the back of my fifth wheel. Absolutely no bouncing or swaying of bikes when traveling which was a big problem with other bike racks I used. Highly recommended!

by:

This hitch mount Dispatch bike rack is the answer to carrying my two bikes on the back of my 5th wheel. There is a marked difference between a rack not rated for use behind a trailer and this one that is. The assembly was straight forward and completed in about 30 minutes. This included some trial and error getting the wheel baskets on in the correct order. Overall very pleased with theDispatch rack and can’t wait to use it.

by:

I Waited an eternity to get this product, but it was worth the wait. Exactly what I needed. Strong, Easily assembled, easy to install, easy to load bikes on. It handles my E bike with ease. Wish the purchase were easier; I had to wait months for delivery after my purchase through e-trailer.

Great - does everything I want. Works well on the travel trailer as well.

by:

We have owned this bike rack for a year. It is easy to use, well designed, and the most impressive thing is how tight everything fits together. The bikes move very little when mounted and it is easy to get the bikes on and off. The way this bike rack is made keeps it from scratching or marring the bikes. It is also only one. of a very few that is rated to be used with a travel trailer. We would definitely recommend this bike rack!

by:

Outstanding. 4500 miles hauling bikes behind fifth wheel. You do have to watch how you have pedals set. Pedals will rotate and hit latch and cause the hold down bracket to come loose.

by:

It is a great bicycle rack. Heavy duty. Easy to put the bicycles on and off. Great tie down systems that holds the bicycle tight.

by:

Rack has performed well on the back of our RV for the last year on road. A problem with a hold down hook - called warranty and had it replaced. Also had issue with pin bolt, threads came apart. I had to use tap and die to rethread the bolt and hitch.

by:

After our previous bike rack broke and dropped our bikes onto the highway while traveling we switched to this 5th Wheel, RV approved rack. It has worked wonderfully.

by:

I have had the bike hitch for a year now and travelled over 5000 miles with it. The hitch has preformed flawlessly the entire time. I couldn't be happier with it.

We do have a bike carrier that is designed to be able to work with a trailer hitch on the rear of a trailer. For a carrier that is easier to load and unload I recommend a platform-style bike carrier like part # S44FR. This carrier fits 2 inch receiver openings and has a 2-bike capacity up to 45 lbs per bike. It will accommodate bikes with a wheelbase up to 52 inches and with a tire width up to 3 inches. Thule specifically mentions that the DoubleTrack is not to be used on a towed trailer. • Does Removing Swagman Dispatch Bike Rack From Hitch Damage Threads
Yes, you can install and remove the Swagman Dispatch part # S44FR from the hitch of your RV as many times as you'd ever need to without having to worry about damaging the threads. The hitch pin is not a one-time-use style of bolt that needs to be replaced after being torqued down.

  • RV Bike Rack Recommendation for Carrying 2 Bikes
At the rear of a trailer or RV the ride quality is very rough when compared to the ride quality at the rear of a passenger vehicle. Reason being the suspension isn't as sophisticated and there is a longer distance between the rear axle and the rear of the trailer which exaggerates the movement of the trailer when hitting bumps. Because of that only a few bike racks were designed to be reinforced enough for that type of use. I personally like platform bike racks as they are easier to load...
