Approved for use on cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs - not approved for fifth wheels, motorhomes, towable campers, or flat-towed vehicles

The RockyMounts SplitRail LS platform-style bike rack lets you carry 2 bikes using your vehicle's 2" hitch. It is designed to carry bicycles of varying sizes and styles. The bike trays adjust to optimize bike spacing and reduce bike-to-bike contact. The ratcheting arms and wheel straps secure your bikes by the wheels so there's no frame contact. The front-mounted release lever allows the rack to easily tilt down with bikes loaded for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area and fold up when not in use. Finally, the rack includes integrated cable locks to secure your bikes to the rack and a locking hitch pin for securing the rack to your vehicle.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

RockyMounts SplitRail LS Adjustable Wheel Arm

The Rack allows you to quickly and easily load and carry 2 bicycles on the back of your vehicle. The ratcheting arms securely hold your bikes by the front wheels so there's no frame contact. Simply push the button on the hook and slide it firmly into place over your front wheel.

Sliding Rear-Wheel Straps

RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 Bike Rack Adjustable Rear Wheel Straps

The sliding rear-wheel straps allow the rack to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 48" long. The ratcheting, rubber straps hold your bikes' rear wheels securely in place on the tray and fit tires up to 3" wide.

Adjustable Bike Tray

RockyMounts SplitRail Rack Adjustable Bike Tray

The front and back trays adjust 4" side-to-side to ensure you have enough space when loading your bikes. Just remove the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the top of the rack, slide the trays left or right to achieve the desired spacing, and then re-install the bolts. This will prevent your bikes' handlebars from becoming tangled, and it eliminates the fear of bike-to-bike contact during transportation.

Front-Mounted Release Lever for Easy Tilting

RockyMounts SplitRail LS Tilt Function for Rear Access

The front-mounted release lever allows one person to easily tilt the RockyMounts SplitRail. The rack tilts down with or without bikes loaded for convenient access to your vehicle's rear cargo area.

RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 Bike Rack Folded Up

The lever also lets you fold the rack up for storage when you're not transporting a bike. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage

Easy Installation with Anti-Rattle Device

RockyMounts SplitRail LS Anti Wobble Hitch Lock Diagram

The RockyMounts SplitRail installs quickly and easily into your 2" hitch receiver. Insert the shank into your vehicle's hitch receiver, then install the hitch pin and tighten it down. As the pin tightens, it engages the 3-axis anti-wobble bolt inside the shank. This system will reduce noise and movement while the rack is installed.

Security Features

RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 Bike Rack Built-in Cable Locks

The rack comes with integrated cable locks to secure your bikes against theft. The cables extended from the ends of the wheel hooks and wrap around your bikes' frames to lock them to the rack

RockyMounts SplitRail LS Hitch Lock and Hitch Pin

The hitch pin also comes with a hitch lock to help prevent the rack from being removed from your vehicle.

Convenient Wall Mount Storage Hook

RockyMounts SplitRail LS Hanging Mount In Use

An included mounting hook bolts to a secure attachment point so you can hang the rack when not in use. Simply remove the rack from your vehicle, reinstall the hitch pin and then set the shank in the middle of the bracket, inserting the hitch pin into the bracket's cradles.

RockyMounts SplitRail LS Hanging Mount

When mounting the storage hook use a pair of 5/16" x 3" lag bolts (sold separately). Select a sturdy location, such as a wall stud, and make sure the location is at least 36" off the ground so the rack can hang unobstructed.

Optional 1-Bike Add-On for 3 or 4 Bike Carrying Capacity

RockyMounts SplitRail Bike Rack Add-On Demonstrated

There is an optional 1-bike add-on available (RKY1150 - sold separately) for the RockyMounts SplitRail that will allow you to convert it from a 2-bike carrier to a 3- or 4-bike carrier.

Awesome rack all around, very high quality feel and everything just works great. I actually bought this rack (new LS model) after seeing a review for the original SplitRail, primarily because it had a “quick-release” (non-threaded) hitch pin with an anti-rattle tension knob on the outer end of the center tube. The LS apparently went back to a threaded hitch-pin design, I’m assuming because they bent the center tube up for more ground clearance. Turns out the threaded hitch pin device is SOLID (I didn’t know how much I’d appreciate that, it’s like an extension of your vehicle) and takes 10 seconds with the included wrench (I use a $5 ratcheting box wrench and it takes 5 seconds). I have an inclined driveway where the previous rack would scrape the ground, the bend in the tube now gives me 3-4” of clearance, so probably a worthwhile tradeoff. We previously had (and loved) Yakima High Rollers on the roof of our Subaru Outback, but we moved to a RAV4 and the wife wasn’t able to load bikes herself, she is thrilled with the ease of loading on these trays. The big wide aluminum trays are very forgiving compared to the narrow steel versions where wheels can fall between trays. I was a little concerned about losing the ratcheting rear wheel straps I was used to on the High Rollers, but honestly the simple cinch straps on the SplitRail are solid and effortless, saving a few seconds of ratcheting per bike. The bikes never even wiggle (with 1.9, 2.1, and 2.35 tires so far) Aesthetically, it’s just the right blend of industrial and curvy, holes in the right places where “self cleaning” comes to mind, and the blue accents are just right... especially folded up. There are extra bolt holes in the trays if you need to offset so handlebars don’t hit seats etc, but wasn’t necessary for us. Her bike seems solid just sliding the wheel brace down until it touches, mine wiggled a bit until I compressed into the tire another click or two, just snug. Helps to compress again when releasing the slide-ratchet, which is otherwise very easy and ergonomic. I actually just lay my palm on the tire hook and pull against the fork arch for that extra click (and when releasing) without even thinking about it now. Integrated locks are pretty cool and a nice touch when grabbing a burger or a beer on the way home (always seem to forget mine at home). And for those considering the rear two-prong “hanger” style racks, which are typically half the price, I have to say going to a tray is worth the price difference EVERY TIME you load. No more fighting suspension or bending cables or bikes rubbing together, or taking three bikes off to get to the inside one when plans change. Not to mention expensive rubber straps aging and cracking. I fought one for years and I’m still kicking myself.

Comments
A year later and it still works like new, just a little wear on the tire straps. Both of our XC bikes were stolen off the back of our car right in our driveway thanks COVID so now I’m lifting the old 40lb freeride bike up and really appreciating the ease of loading this thing. At least I can say I’ve tried the 2.5” tire and it fits great.

A year later and we still love it. We use a few Velcro strips for extra stability but all and all it’s great. Bought an extender so we could transfer from car to our RV

After four long trips on the back of a toyhauler, one which included a serious rear tire blowout, we can safely say that this purchase was well worth it. While traveling, we keep a watch on our precious bicycles with our backup camera and have yet to see them even wobble. They stay put no matter what the road conditions are. It is very quick and easy for us to load, secure, and unload from this rack. It's a bit heavy for me as a 70 year old small woman to mount the rack on the hitch by myself, but I can do it if necessary. Love this rack and so glad we purchased it. Thank you.

Product was extremely easy to set up and install. Have only used it once (received yesterday), but bikes are solid on it. No play from the rack in the hitch receiver which is nice for those washboard roads. Recommend for anyone on the fence.

This product works perfectly to hold two e-bikes. Assembly was easy and all parts and tools to assemble were included. The no-wobble hitch pin with lock is fantastic. etrailer’s price beat even the manufactures by over $100 dollars. The included bracket to store the rack helps reduce the space needed to store the rack in my garage. This is the best purchase I have made in some time. Thanks etrailer.com

Awesome rack. I love the levered handle release. Super sturdy and easy to use. While a bit on the hefty side, it's manageable. I added a 3rd row, which was easy, but decreased access to the release handle a bit. adding a 4th row would probably make handle access quite difficult. It is likely that the factory 3 and 4 row would avoid that. The provided lock is pretty flimsy. It's designed to keep honest people honest. So I just add some additional locks when I think it's necessary. But let's be honest. A power saw is going to make just about any bike on any rack accessible to someone who wants the bike(s), so there really is a limit in how far it is practical to go with any rack lock. Anyway, a great rack and would definitely buy again. We also have the other Rocky-Mounts rack, the MonoRail, and its a great rack also.

Rocky Mounts Splitrail is a great rack with many features. The front wheel arms fit many wheel sizes, the folding mechanism still works great after a full year. The only part that is odd is the rear wheel tray. Road bike wheels and kids bike wheels aren't thick enough to make tight contact with the strap. Although I have never had anything close to a problem with the rear tray, it is still not a tight as I would prefer. Mtb wheels are held just fine because they are thicker. The locks that come with the rack are good, but the cable is little short. Good in a pinch, but if you really want to lock your bike, bring an extra cable.

I had this rack for almost a year and all I can say it is awesome.Quality of a more expensive rack but in reach of affordiability. Visibility is awesome, and the build is excellent. The looks I get when I'm on the Highway from a Yamika, Saris, or Thule owner are priceless. I can't wait till my Kids learn how to ride without training wheels family trips will be in full effect.

After a year, I still love the bike mount! Have travelled many miles with it on the back and it has kept our bikes safe. Love how it stores hanging on the garage wall when not in use to save space.

Ask the Experts about this RockyMounts Hitch Bike Racks

  • Why Are Some Bike Racks Not Rated For Use on RV or Trailer and Option for Rack on a Trailer
That's a good question and while we have bike racks that can be used on a trailer, you hit the mark when you mentioned "bounce" as the reason that some bike racks like the RockyMounts SplitRail LS # RKY11404 are not rated for use behind an RV or trailer. The bike rack manufacturer decided this particular rack is in more danger of potential damage on a trailer because there is significantly more movement at the rear of a fifth wheel trailer or camper than there is at the rear of a passenger...

  • How to Ensure that RockyMounts SplitRail # RKY11404 would Allow Truck Tailgate to Fold Down
It would depend on the vehicle but most likely not since the RockyMounts SplitRail # RKY11404 does have a solid amount of rise in the shank. I do have a great solution though with the Yakima Backswing part # Y02483 which will swing the entire rack out and away from the rear of the vehicle to give you complete access to the rear of the truck.

I confirmed that your 2021 Volvo XC90 with the factory 2" trailer hitch receiver does have a 500lb tongue weight capacity, so you will not have an issue finding a suitable bike rack for your application. I see quite a few bike racks that have been used on the OEM Volvo hitch and I do not see any feedback stating that there were any issues fitting the receiver, so you won't have to worry about that. Yes. The RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 Bike Platform Rack # RKY11404 uses the 3-axis anti wobble by installing the locking hitch pin and anti-wobble bolt. To engage the 3 axis anti-wobble, you'll insert the included hitch pin from the passenger side of the receiver and then tighten down the pin to engage the 3-axis anti-wobble system inside the shank. We have tested the etrailer hitch receiver # 98864, and we discovered that there is about 8 inches from the pinhole and the end of the spare tire on a 2012 Toyota RAV 4. With this measurement on similar hitches to the etrailer hitch receiver # 98864, the RockyMounts...

  • 2019 Ford F-150 Front Hitch Receiver Compatibility With RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2
The RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Tilting - Wheel Mount, part # RKY11404, will work great as a bike rack on the front hitch. It has a slight rise in the shank, so the bikes will sit higher than the 8.5" your hitch receiver sits off the ground. The rack will sit 11 1/2" higher than the hitch receiver in your 2019 Ford F-150 when it is in use. If you take a measure of your bikes from tires to handlebars and add to the 11 1/2" you can compare that with the height...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for Carrying E-Bike with Fenders
The RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 Bike Platform Rack # RKY11404 that you referenced is a great bike rack but it's not ideal for a full fendered bike like your e-bike due to how it attaches to the bikes by grabbing the front tire which is where your fender would be. A much better option would be the Thule EasyFold XT part # TH903202 which uses a frame clamp instead that was designed for the often-times unique shape of e-bike frames. It also comes with a ramp that pulls out which makes loading...

  • Bike Rack And 2" Receiver Hitch Recommendation For 2020 Mazda CX-5
Bike racks have different requirement ratings when it comes to the hitches they'll be installed in. Most receiver hitch bike racks require a Class II or Class III hitch so I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" Item # 76138 has a maximum tongue weight of 675lbs and a maximum gross trailer weight of 4,500lbs. We carry two bike racks that fold and tilt away like you're wanting and have a high enough weight capacity for your Electra Townie...

  • Lock Cylinders For RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 Bike Rack To Match Add On
The 1 Bike Add-On for RockyMounts SplitRail for 2" Hitches part # RKY1150 for the RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Tilting - Wheel Mount part # RKY11404 does include the lock cylinder but they will not match the E101 lock cylinder that you have. You want to purchase the lock cylinder part # RKY0331-E101 separately to use with the add-on. You can remove the lock cylinder from the add-on by making sure the lock cylinder is unlocked and leave the key in. On one...

  • Best Hitch for Bike Rack On 2019 Mazda CX-9
The best trailer hitch we offer for a 2019 Mazda CX-9 to use with a bike rack is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13284 because the receiver tube is closer to the edge of the bumper than other options which allows for more clearance with a bike rack. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper is 5". In regards to a 1Up Bike Rack, this is not a brand we carry so I would not be able to confirm fit. However, so long as the distance from the center...

  • Compatibility of RockyMounts SplitRail 4-Bike Rack and Stealth Hitches Rack Receiver on 2018 XC90
The Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver # SH27FR measures 3-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to rear end of the receiver and it has a standard hitch pin hole depth of 2-1/2 inches (center of the hitch pin hole to the front face of the receiver opening). That being said, the hitch pin hole depth on your RockyMounts SplitRail LS 4 Bike Platform Rack # RKY11404 is standard as well and so you won't have any problem installing the bike rack on the # SH27FR. It also looks...

  • Is etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver e98848 Confirmed To Fit A 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid?
The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98848 you were looking at is a confirmed fit for your 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid. This hitch is a great choice for a bike rack as it has a 525lb tongue weight rating, and it will even work for towing a light trailer in the future as it has a 3500lb trailer weight rating. If you do not already have a bike rack I would be happy to make a recommendation, but the correct bike rack will really come down to how many bikes you have and if they are heavy...
