Video Transcript for Pro Series 2 Hitch Bike Folding Rack Review

Today we are going to show you part number 63120. This is the two-bike, hitch-mounted, folding rack with frame-mount cradles for 1-1/4 inch hitch. This is from Pro Series. This rack carries up to two bikes and works with many alternative and larger tube-frame bikes. However, womens bikes may require an adapter. It has heavy-duty, Velcro, straps which secure the bikes to the carrier, and a powder coated finish to resist corrosion and rust. It has rubberized pads to protect the finish on the bikes as you load them on. And the bike rack tilts forward to allow access to the rear of the vehicle. And also, the shank rises for better ground clearance. It fits 1-1/4 inch hitches only, and the maximum weight on the rack cannot exceed 66 pounds.

We are going to go ahead and show off some of the features on this rack. And to start off, as you can see it has just a standard pin and clip to secure it to the hitch of your car. And then it has this two-inch rise, as described before, to give greater ground clearance as you are driving down the road. OK, next we are going to show you how the tilt feature works. It is pretty simple. You pull the pin out and let it fall forward, toward you, so you can reach the rear of your vehicle. We are going to show you how a bike loads up. Now it is simple enough. You just undo the Velcro straps, put the bike in, and re-strap it down. Now, we are going to use a standard-frame bike for this, just for demonstration purposes. As stated before, the cradles do come with Velcro straps and rubber padding to ensure that the bikes do not get scratched as you load them on. And you can also see that it has a reflector. And there you have it for part number 63120. This is the two-bike, hitch-mounted, folding rack with frame-mount cradles for 1-1/4 inch hitches from Pro Series.

I wanted to buy a bike rack for my husband for his birthday, but was nervous to pick something without his expertise. But etrailer.com provided an incredible amount of good information and recommendations that were even specific to my car, which helped me not only narrow down the type of rack I wanted but order the exact pieces that fit my little hybrid car perfectly. I have a 2010 Honda Insight and used this Reese 2 Bike Rack w/ Frame Mount with the CURT 1 1/4" Hitch Receiver, the latter which I had installed professionally for about $90. I easily assembled the bike rack on my own, and attaching it to the hitch takes about 20 seconds, which is so awesome for throwing the bike on and then removing it altogether for using the car for non-cycling errands. Together they still allow for the hatchback door to open even when loaded, but the tilt is a great feature too if we needed to really move a lot of gear in or out of the hatch. My husband just loaded his bike onto it and headed to the mountain for the first time and he's beaming. Thanks to etrailer.com for all the great info and great products. 515766

This is my third purchase from etrailer.com. So far I am very happy with the products they provide. They are of very good quality at a fair price. Delivery is always fast. The last purchase was a dual bike carrier for 1.25" hitch. The product is great looking and functions as it should. It is of a strong build and very easy to assemble and use. 386578

I love this rack. Works great with my 2014 Yaris. Simple and effective. My only small criticisms of this rack are 2 things... 1: the velcro straps are starting to fray out, but I singed the edges with a lighter to prevent it from spreading, but they still hold solid. 2: it wobbles upon my hitch receiver but I'm not sure if thats fault of the rack or fault of the receiver (Curt brand receiver installed at my local Uhaul) but all around it's a great rack, would recommend for the price. I wasn't a fan of the pin that is provided that holds the rack in place at the tilt joint, but it's a standard Class 1 hitch pin, so I put in another one. The one that is provided is good and strong but I simply don't prefer that retainer style. Another thing to consider is that this rack only holds a bike in one place. You'll need to secure the bottom end of the bike as it hangs if you drive on highways a lot and/or in windy areas, as the bike will swing back and forth. I simply use my cable bike lock and secure it around the main vertical support of the rack. Easy, safe and effective solution. 400216

Best for the price I was searching for a 2 bike rack to fit into my class 1 hitch and really came down to the $180 Thule 912 or this one. I know Thule is a solid company but this was a bargain for the price so I gave it a try. Overall it's a decent rack, and I trust it with my $2000 stumpjumper. My only gripe is that it has some movement while in the hitch, which can be solved with some shims from home depot or lowes. I think the cars behind me saw the rack shake a bit were scared it would fall off because they drove bus lengths behind me. Cushioning where the bike touches the rack is adequate but nothing like that of a Thule. So, if you want to spend $100 more for better straps, cushioning, and anti rattle.. go with a Thule. If you want an economical solution which works just as well (just need shims so the rack doesn't shake while driving) then this is completely ok. Also I would highley recommend a locking pin. 1809

I love it it is perfect for my car It is easy to put on and take off use it several times a week put it on in the morning and hit the trails after work. It does have some bounce when I hit a bump too fast but not enough to be a concern for the bikes falling off 403534

We just received the unit so have not tried it on the road. I've installed it and loaded the bike. It is quite wobbly in the reciever which I rather expected but because it extends so far out behind the car the movement is pronounced. The whole thing is heavy and sturdy. I can open the rear hatch of my Subaru Outback without lowering the new hitch. It is easy to install. I will not leave the hitch in place if I am not hauling a bike because of the wobble and the extension but it will be fine for occasionally carrying the bike locally. It is a good value for the money. etrailer asked me to do the review before I was even aware the rack had been delivered much less tested. I wish they would give me more time to evaluate. However I like this company and use it often for trailer parts and informative product reviews. 465297

I was a little worried when the package was given to me from the UPS driver, as it looked really beat up and bent from their rough handling. However, when I cut away all the damaged cardboard, the bike rack was in perfect condition. It's more heavy duty than expected. Final assembly was quick and easy, with just four items to insert and tighten. I immediately loaded my two mountain bikes and went for a test drive. It's impressive, especially considering the price. There's a little wobble on turns, but nothing significant. I think I could drive across Europe with no problem. Excellent value. 209857

The installation of my hitch and bike rack took about 1 1/2 hours by myself. Everything fit very well and is tucked up under the car nicely. One thing that might have helped make the installation go faster is if thr fishing wires where a little longer and if you clean off any caulking that might be on the car frame. Great installation videos. 557725

As you know, I purchased the 63120 for the purpose of mounting a CB antenna where the bikes go. I didn't want to drill holes in my Pontiac van, so this is what I dreamed up. I don't think anyone has done this before, but I like the challenge building things. The 63120 is very well made and should make anyone who wants a two bike carrier very happy. I can undue the modifications that I made and use it as it was intended for. I will be taking some pictures for you to see and maybe posts.Get back to you soon.......................Steven 206425

This is one of the least expensive 2-bike racks on etrailer. You get exactly what you pay for - a no frills rack that will carry your 2 bikes. The drawbar on the bottom fits very solidly in the receiver. The vertical L-shaped support wobbles side-to-side a few inches in either direction. This is more than I expected but the bikes still come nowhere close to scratching the car. I'm going to try to find a way to tighten the rack before driving any far distances. Aside from that, best price you can get for a rack that gets the job done. 411524

Good upper body workout.... As noted by other reviewers, the rack is very heavy and very well built...could probably hang a small elephant off the thing and not worry. I wrapped the upright with bike inner tube and duct tape where bike hits upright, then use bungie cord to pull the frame tight to the round upright of the rack. The bungie serves to keep bike from swinging back and forth and causing possible scratches to frame or components. I have used it since early summer this year with no problems Great rack for the price. 3576

Well built rack. Great way to transport my bicycle rather than using up my already limited interior space. 399273

Really nice bike rack. It was much more sturdy than it looked in the picture online. I've never had a rack / carrier that tilts down for loading and that's really sweet now that I have it. Note: The extension to the receiver is long enough that I don't have to tilt the carrier to open my hatchback. 321959

Heavy, but strong. Like another reviewer mentioned this thing is a bit heavier than I expected, but it seems very well made and strong. I don't see any weak points that could break. It says it is rated for 66 lbs, but feels much stronger than that, and they probably underrated it a bit. I don't expect to put more than one bike on it most of the time, but keep this in mind if you have 2 heavier bikes. I bought it with hitch #24776 also from this site, and the fit was perfect. 2802

This is the second hitch and Rack I have bought from etrailer. The first one is still in use after several years. The directions for installing the hitch were very thorough. I suggest downloading the directions from their website and printing them in color, rather than using the b/w ones they send. The carriage bolts used to mount the hitch make getting that first thread to bite hard. The fishing wire they include to fish the mounting bolts is clever. Overall very pleased. 427711

This is a good bike carrier but it has several drawbacks. There's a lot of play in the carrier when loaded. Bike and carrier wobble more than I was comfortable with. The addition of the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch anti rattle device fixed this problem. The biggest drawback is that this is a 2 bike carrier and neither I nor the bike mechanic could figure out how to mount the second bike. It works great with one bike but good luck mounting the second bike. 528966

We have only used this a few times for short distances, but it works very well in that regard. It seems a little heavier than necessary for the job, and perhaps too tall. On our Prius C it puts the bicycles up well into the airflow, promoting drag. Despite the weight, it is fast and easy to install, quick to attach bikes, gentle on the bike frames, and the fold-down feature is great for accessing the hatch-back on the Prius. 440351

Purchased this hitch and love it! Put it together in 10 minutes and on the car took no time at all. Heavy and well made. I have a Ford Edge and I can lift the back with the rack on because it is far enough away from the car. With one bike we can lower the rack if we want to get something like a suitcase out that is a little larger. Recommend it highly and the price is outstanding. Very little wobble or swaying at all. Thanks 554605

Both the Hidden Hitch and 2 bike rack (63120) are well made and of heavy-duty construction. I was lazy and had our local Honda dealer do the hitch installation (0.4 hr, $45) and they reported no problems. It works great, although I do need to buy an adapter bar for my wife's bike, which is a woman's frame, otherwise the bike rides too high. Etrailer sent it out right away and even called to check on the delivery. Great job! 30749

I was looking for a good solid bike rack that had good reviews.I could not see myself paying 300 dollars for one,so I started researching and found this one.Bike rack is very well built and seems to be of good quality. The only con would be a little bit on the heavy side.Although in saying that I also consider the sturdiness of it as well.I believe it should serve me well and is a good value for the price. 519068

Wish I could say more than the carrier arrived in a box in a timely fashion but this bike carrier will be mounted to a car receiver on a car I haven't yet taken home! I hope to assemble it soon. Sorry that the review needs a star rating as it is hard to do with the item still in the box...The only reason I gave a neutral review,no offense meant. 349132

Nice product - the rack wobbles ever so slightly in the receiver, but I dont see any problem. The fold down feature is really nice - it allows the tailgate to open without removing the rack, like I had to with an older one. The website is so helpful - what a pleasure to use. Thanks Etrailer - you guys can't be beat. 36605

I have honda sport fit 2008. I bought a trailer hitch from you, now I want to purchase bike rack for hitch, will the 63120 work? Or another at a similar price?ThanksPete

The bike rack will fit into the hitch, but we have not tested the rack with a Fit. The rack measures 11-1/2 inches from the hitch pin hole to the upright bar. If you measure from the hitch pin hole on your hitch straight back, and the bumper does not stick out further than 11 inches, this rack should fit fine.

This bike carrier does have a 1-1/4 inch shank and it is compatible with Class I and II trailer hitches. Since you are using the Curt hitch with a bike carrier, Curt requires the use of stabilization strap # 18050 for any non-trailer load for their warranty requirements. I have included a link that shows how the strap works.

  • What 1-1/4-Inch Hitch-Mount 2-Bike Hanging-Style Carrier for Use on 2012 Hyundai Elantra Sedan
  • The Hidden Hitch 1-1/4-Inch trailer hitch receiver that we offer for your 2012 Hyundai Elantra Sedan, like all other hitches available for your vehicle, is a Class I receiver rated for a maximum tongue weight of 200 lbs. This means that the weight of your carrier and your bikes together must remain within this tongue weight limit. You will need to choose a Class I bike carrier intended specifically to fit your hitch. The link provided will take you to our product page for all available...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a Subaru Impreza Sport with Class I Hitch
  • First, I have included a link to all of the trailer hitch mount bike racks that will fit a Class I trailer hitch. We do indicate on all bike rack product pages the hitch classes the bike rack will fit somewhere in the description and/or specs. For a 2 bike hanging rack, I recommend the Swagman Trailhead, # S63360. This rack is compatible with a Class I trailer hitch. I have included a link to the installation details for you to view. The arms measure 11-1/2 inches apart on this rack,...

  • Will Reese 2 Bike Folding Rack # 63120 Prevent Bikes From Swinging During Travel
  • The Reese 2 Bike Hitch Mounted Folding Rack # 63120 referenced in your question does use rubber pads and heavy-duty fastener straps that attach to the bike frame for a secure connection. As long as everything is tightened down properly, this should do a nice job of preventing too much movement with the bikes during transport. With that being said, it's not going to do as good a job of keeping them stable when compared to a dual-arm carrier like the Swagman Trailhead # S63360. The dual-arm...

  • Hitch Clearance for Bike Rack on 2011 Ford Fusion
  • We offer two Class I hitches for your 2011 Ford Fusion, the Draw-Tite # 24865 and the Curt # C11390. I reviewed the two linked installation videos for these items to compare their clearance dimensions and they differ by only 1/4-inch. The Curt hitch will provide approximately 5-1/4-inches of clearance from the hitch pin hole to the back of the bumper cover, while the Draw-Tite dimension is 5-inches. The clearance provided by compatible Class I bike racks will vary between racks. A new...

  • Can a Class II Three Bike Rack be Used with a Draw-Tite Trailer Class I Hitch on a 2008 Rondo by Kia
  • The only hitches available for the Kia Rondo are Class I hitches, like the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Hitch, item # 24797. Class I hitches are limited to 2 bikes because of the torque applied to the hitch and vehicle frame by the weight of the bikes and bike rack and the distance they stick out behind the vehicle. The Reese Hitch Bike Rack, item # 63123 will not work in a Class I hitch because there is a stop located in the receiver that limits the hitch to the installation of Class...

  • What Do I Need to Use Hitch 24733 with my 2004 Chevy Cavalier
  • The hitch, # 24733, includes all the mounting hardware you need to install the hitch to your 2004 Chevy Cavalier. In order to tow a trailer, you also need to purchase a drawbar, and the ball itself that sits on the drawbar. The drawbar for this hitch is part # 3592 and the manufacturer says to only use this drawbar and only in the rise position. This bar includes a hitch pin and clip. Your drawbar requires a ball with a shank diameter of 3/4 inch. I have added a page link that will...

  • Can a Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Be Used on a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander
  • What you have heard is correct, none of the rack manufacturers recommend using a trunk mounted bike rack on your vehicle. In order for the top connecting straps to fasten to the top of the liftgate, they must pass over the spoiler at the top of the liftgate. The manufacturers have found that this spoiler is not strong enough to bear the weight of the rack plus the bikes loaded onto it. Attempting to install and use a trunk mount rack on the 2007 Outlander would most likely result in the...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for 2006 Honda Accord Sedan
  • Deciding how to carry bikes on a 2006 Honda Accord is tricky because your vehicle has a 2 bike limit when using a hitch-mount bike rack, however you can carry 3 bikes if you use a trunk mount bike rack. If carrying 3 bikes is a priority, for a 3 bike trunk-mount carrier I recommend the Thule Raceway 3 # TH9002PRO. This is my favorite bike rack because of the retractable cables and hooks that you use to anchor your bike rack to your vehicle. These cables will not fatigue like straps and...
