Kuat Transfer 3-Bike Rack

The Transfer platform-style bike rack lets you carry 3 bikes on the back of your vehicle. The rack holds your bikes by the wheels - not the frames - to protect your paint. The low tray height takes the strain out of mounting your bikes on the rack, and the pivoting cradles and ratcheting wheel hooks make loading your bikes quicker and easier when compared with a rack that has a center post and frame hooks. A foot pedal lets you tilt the rack with bikes loaded for access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. And the pedal lets you fold the rack up for storage, too.

Perfect Fit Adjustment System

Kuat Transfer 3-Bike Rack

The Transfer has a Perfect Fit adjustment system that lets you carry your bikes safely and securely without the fear of damaging the frames. The system includes ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes firmly by the front wheels, adjustable front wheel cradles, and pivoting rear cradles that secure your rear wheels to the rack. These hooks and adjustable cradles ensure a perfect fit for each of your bikes' body styles.

Ratcheting Hooks

Kuat Transfer Ratcheting Hooks

The ratcheting hooks secure your bikes' front wheels to the rack. Place your bikes on the cradles then simply slide the hooks down over your wheels until they click in place. The hooks hold your bikes firmly in place without contacting the frames. Press the thumb release button on each hook to slide them up and remove your bikes.

Adjustable Front-Wheel Cradles

Kuat Transfer Adjustable Front-Wheel CradlesKuat Transfer Bolt Locator Tab

Each of the front cradles has a bolt locator tab that allows the pitch to be adjusted. In its upright position the cradles sit at the optimal position for holding a normal-size bike. Use the included Allen key to flip the bolt locator tab upside down. This allows the cradle to sit in a position that tilts more toward the center of the rack so that the tires of a children's bike will fit snugly.

Pivoting Rear-Wheel Cradles

Kuat Transfer Pivoting Rear Cradles

The Transfer has pivoting cradles that adjust to your bikes' rear wheels on the rack. Rotate the cradles out to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 47" long or rotate them toward the center of the rack to accommodate smaller bikes. Ratcheting straps secure your wheels to the cradles. A strap extender kit (APBK - sold separately) is available to convert the cradles for use with fat bikes.

Spring-Loaded Foot Lever

Kuat Transfer Spring-loaded foot lever

The spring-loaded foot lever is easily accessible even with your bikes loaded. No more crawling through bikes or squeezing between the rack and the vehicle to hit the tilt release lever.

Kuat Transfer Spring-loaded foot lever

The foot lever lets you easily tilt the rack down to allow access to your vehicle's rear cargo area - even with the bikes loaded. It leaves both hands free so that you can lower the rack in a controlled manner.

Kuat Transfer Folds Against Vehicle

When the rack is unloaded you can fold it up for storage. This makes it easier to park in small lots at the trail head or in cramped parking garages, and it keeps the rack out of the way of other vehicles and riders.

Adapter Sleeve with Threaded Hitch Pin

Kuat Transfer Adapter Sleeve

A removable sleeve on the shank lets you convert the rack for use with 1-1/4" hitches. The rack also comes with an anti-rattle device incorporated into the shank to reduce vibration and noise in the hitch for a smooth, quiet ride. Simply tighten the hitch bolt with the included 3/4" wrench.

There is also an optional cable lock and hitch lock (PTSCLK13 - sold separately) that lets you secure your bike to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

I am unable to load 12 inches kids bike on this Rack.... so much disappointing as I got this rack so that I can go with my 3 year son, please help. 646712

Comments
The smallest wheel diameter this bike rack is compatible with is a 20 inch wheel, due to the span of the wheel cradles. I have checked with Kuat, and at this time they do now have an adapter that would help close the gap for bikes smaller than 12 inch wheels.

It looks like a very strong and sturdy rack, but it's too heavy. I consider myself pretty strong. But to put this on my car myself is very difficult. I'm considering looking for another one and returning this one. 264355

I just deal with the weight. But, I love the rack. Its sturdy and tough. Im glad I kept it.

I ordered this and a trailer hitch on Tuesday and they arrived on Friday. The products are awesome, the install videos are great, their communication was great (called to make sure I didn't want to let a $3 part hold up the order) and they sent a follow up email after delivery! When I replied to the email after hours on a Friday night I got a reply within an hour. An all around good expierience. I would say the bike rack is a great value. 285777

I assembled this rack pretty easily by myself in about an hour--easy instructions & all the hardware was clearly marked. Heads up: Getting the rack into the hitch was the tricky part--very hard to get it in with just 2 people. Not only is it very heavy & therefore very sturdy (52 lbs.), but the part that attaches to the hitch rotates up & down, so I needed my husband & our neighbor to lift it while I guided it into the hitch. With the 3 of us that part took only a couple of minutes. It folds up great--I thought it would add much more length to the car, but it is very compact when folded. The foot pedal is such a breeze to use. Taking the rack down takes a few seconds; at 1st I could not figure out how to reach the foot pedal when folding it back up. Then I realized I just had to swing the 1st two arms OUT to sides so I could walk in & depress the pedal. After I lifted the rack a few inches, I then could swing the arms all the way inward, & then finish snapping the rack into the folded position. The rack did wiggle a bit when I tested it by shaking it with my hand, but it not make any noise while driving, with or without the bikes on! I am very happy with it! 487012

Love it! Super easy to get the bikes off and on. One bolt secures the rack to the vehicle so putting the bike rack on the car or taking it off is also a relatively quick and easy operation. The bike rack isn't light though, so lifting it into place may not be easy for everyone. The one minor thing to consider is that since this is a 3 bike rack, my leg isn't long enough to reach the tilt lever with 3 bikes on the rack (not really a big deal since I just stand to the side, bend down and use my hand). Having said that, I love that I have a tilt option that allows access to my hatchback without having to take the bikes off. Would make this purchase again. 399276

Very sturdy which also means on the heavy side. Very easy to load bikes. Consider adding the lock accessory at the time you buy the rack. 402775

by:

So far, I'm very pleased. It takes a little time to assemble but the instructions and tools are more than adequate. Be aware it is of heavy-duty steel construction so it is plenty hefty to move around off the vehicle. However, because it tilts down to the ground, I found it surprisingly easy to install as you don't have to support its entire weight as you insert it into the receiver. 654063

We race BMX & use this rack multiple times a week from early spring through late fall. It pretty much stays on the vehicle from March through November. The bike securing part is great. Once you secure your bikes, there's no worrying about them working loose. My only complaint is when the rack is in the upright, stowed position, it rattles a good deal as you drive. I've traced it back to the foot latch you depress to move the rack from upright, to bike hauling, to hatch access positions. In the upright position, there's just not enough tension to hold the rack still. It's fairly annoying if you pay attention to such things. i suppose such thing are to be expected when you buy the "cheap" option from kuat. 353625

Great design and reasonably priced. Assembly was easy. It has carried our road bikes without fail, yet I'm losing confidence in it. The issue is the substantial play in the rack folding mechanism. It's getting worse after just a year of light to moderate use. I've spoken to several other Transfer owners (one is a manager at a local bike store) and there is no way to tighten it or eliminate the up and down play. It's concerning and I'm afraid it's going to give out or break as this is the single most weight bearing point on the rack. Would be great to know what Küat is advising their dealers to recommend to customers. I called Küat and was less than pleased with the lack of knowledge about the issue, or suggested remedy. 292639

I like the rack as it was affordable. I tend to leave on my car often and where i live it rains often. The other day i folded the rack all the way down and rust colored water poured out of the base supports. While affordable it was still expensive and would think for what it is, this would hold up better. 604684

Comments
The Kuat transfer bike rack is made of steel so it is susceptible to rust and corrosion if left in a moist environment. If the bike rack is left in the rain in the stowed position for extended periods of time the water will get inside of the bike rack and begin to corrode the inside. Which is why is why the rust colored water poured out when you unfolded it. It is a good idea to take the bike rack off of the vehicle sometimes and make sure there is not water inside of it. If you would like to switch to a more corrosive resistant material bike rack, Kuat does offer an aluminum bike rack part # SH22P. The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 is made of mostly aluminum parts, weighs 20 lbs less than the transfer and is considered rust proof. The only real difference between the Kuat Sherpa and Transfer is the Sherpa only allows you to carry 2 bikes.

Bike rack is great. After struggling trying to find a hanging type bike rack and discovering they just don't have enough space, I found the platform type is the only way to go. They are heavy but once you have them connected to your hitch they can be raised and lowered easily. I have 2 electric bikes and one Townie and they all 3 fit with plenty of room in between. I do remove the battery form each e-bike to lighten the load. I would highly recommend this rack. 777809

After a year, on balance, I like this rack but I’ll buy from a different manufacturer next time. It does the job. I’ve put about 3500 miles on it loaded, and now it wobbles way more than I like, even after snuggling up all fittings. So this rack may be best for light use only. Kuat responded quickly to send out a new wheel tray when the original couldn’t be installed because of misaligned fasteners. etrailer delivered promptly and the order was complete. 662704

Sturdy and secure rack for 3 bikes. Easy to load and unload, but heavy to attach to the truck. Holds 3 bikes but two or three may block tail lights of vehicle so you may need auxiliary lighting like this (https://www.etrailer.com/Tow-Bar-Wiring/Optronics/TL21RK.html). Also I put reflective tape onto the rack itself for increased visibility. 599021

Ecxellent product and cost compared to other comparable products on the market. Bikes go on quick and holds bikes without touching the frame. Took a 7 hour road trip and had no problems. Really love this bike platform rack. Would definitely recommend this product to others. 550693

Instructions were good and it was easy to put together, my wife and I had it put together and installed in about an hour. Excellent quality, heavy duty construction, holds bikes securely, no rattling, sqeaking, or excessive movement during transport either. Folds up nicely out of the way when not in use. Looks great too. WE LOVE IT! Best rack on the market and well worth the money! 468604

For a 3-bike platform rack the Kuat Transfer part # TS03G would be a great option. We had the chance to test fit this rack on a similar 2015 Chrysler 300 and it fit and worked well. Check out the review video I attached that shows this. Platform bike racks are normally really heavy, especially ones that carry over 2 bikes like this one. The Transfer is relatively light all things considered at 52 lbs. Most similar racks are near 100 lbs. If you are in need of a hitch you'll want the...

I attached a Help Article to show you how to determine the bumper clearance on your Crosstrek to ensure compatibility.

  • Recommended Hitch Bike Carrier That Provides Full Vehicle Cargo Area Access on 2016 Dodge Durango
The Saris Thelma 3 Bike Platform Rack SA4239B folds up against the back of the vehicle for storage when empty but it does not tilt down when loaded to give you rear cargo area access. For a tilting platform rack for three bikes I suggest the Kuat Transfer # TS03G, shown in the linked video in use on a Durango. For a quality hanging style rack that does give you full rear cargo area access, even with bikes loaded, you can use Yakima's FullSwing # Y02465 with 4-bike capacity. This rack...

  • Will Rear Hatch Open On 2012 Honda Odyssey With Bikes Loaded On Kuat Transfer 3-Bike Carrier
The Kuat Transfer 3 Bike Platform Rack, part # TS03G is designed to allow you to do just what you said you need. The Transfer is designed to allow you to tilt the rack away from the back of your Odyssey for rear cargo area access, even with the bikes loaded. One concern is the clearance at the back of your Odyssey for the rack. When it is folded down the distance from the center of the hitch pin hold to the pivot on the rack is 7-1/2 inches. When folded up the distance from the hitch...

  • Fit of Kuat Transfer 3 Bike Rack # TS03G on 2005 Lexus RX 330
In order for the Kuat # TS03G Transfer bike rack to work well on your 2005 Lexus RX 330, your hitch can be recessed under the vehicle by more than 4-1/2 inches or so. You can easily take a quick measurement (see liniked FAQ article) to see how to do this. If the hitch pin hole to furthest rearward point of the back bumper is less than 5 inches, the rack will work perfectly on your RX330. This rack is compatible with Class II and III hitches only. We will indeed match competitors prices,...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for Electra Townie Bikes on a 2015 Jeep Renegade
I looked up the owner's manual for a 2015 Jeep Renegade and it stated on page 406 that the max Tongue Weight (TW) for your Renegade is 200 lbs. We will need to keep that in mind when looking into platform bike racks. If you are only needing to carry 3 bikes then the bike rack that I recommend for you to use is the Kuat Transfer 3 Bike Platform Rack # TS03G. This is a wheel mount bike rack which means that it will secure your Electra Townie bikes by their wheels instead of their frame...

  • Kuat 3-Bike Platform Carrier Will Not Work With Class l Trailer Hitch On 2017 Volkswagen Golf
The Class l hitch on your 2017 Golf is designed to carry 2 bikes only. That is why the Kuat Transfer 3-bike carrier # TS03G will not fit. I strongly recommend that you not use the # TS03G in your Class l trailer hitch as it could damage the vehicle and the bike carrier along with the bikes. The bike carrier that will work with your trailer hitch is the Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack, part # TS02G. If you must carry three bikes you may then want to consider a roof rack if...

  • 3 Bike Rack for a 2009 Hyundai Accent Hatchback
I have a solution for you, however the 2009 Hyundai Accent can only be equipped with 1-1/4 inch, Class I Hitch. Class I hitches are only able to use 2 bike racks. This is because of their design and how they support the weight. There is not a 2 inch hitch available for this car. This leaves you with two options, use a two bike hitch rack and then a specialized roof rack for the third bike, or use a three bike trunk rack instead of a hitch rack. Between the two, I'd recommend going with...
