Kuat Transfer 2-Bike Rack

The Transfer platform-style bike rack lets you carry 2 bikes on the back of your vehicle. The rack holds your bikes by the wheels - not the frames - to protect your paint. The low tray height takes the strain out of mounting your bikes on the rack, and the pivoting cradles and ratcheting wheel hooks make loading your bikes quicker and easier when compared with a rack that has a center post and frame hooks. A foot pedal lets you tilt the rack with bikes loaded for access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. And the pedal lets you fold the rack up for storage, too.

Perfect Fit Adjustment System

The Transfer has a Perfect Fit adjustment system that lets you carry your bikes safely and securely without the fear of damaging the frames. The system includes ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes firmly by the front wheels, adjustable front wheel cradles, and pivoting rear cradles that secure your rear wheels to the rack. These hooks and adjustable cradles ensure a perfect fit for each of your bikes' body styles.

Ratcheting Hooks

The ratcheting hooks secure your bikes' front wheels to the rack. Place your bikes on the cradles then simply slide the hooks down over your wheels until they click in place. The hooks hold your bikes firmly in place without contacting the frames. Press the thumb release button on each hook to slide them up and remove your bikes.

Adjustable Front-Wheel Cradles

Each of the front cradles has a bolt locator tab that allows the pitch to be adjusted. In its upright position the cradles sit at the optimal position for holding a normal-size bike. Use the included Allen key to flip the bolt locator tab upside down. This allows the cradle to sit in a position that tilts more toward the center of the rack so that the tires of a children's bike will fit snugly.

Pivoting Rear-Wheel Cradles

The Transfer has pivoting cradles that adjust to your bikes' rear wheels on the rack. Rotate the cradles out to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 47" long or rotate them toward the center of the rack to accommodate smaller bikes. Ratcheting straps secure your wheels to the cradles. A strap extender kit (APBK - sold separately) is available to convert the cradles for use with fat bikes.

Spring-Loaded Foot Lever

The spring-loaded foot lever is easily accessible even with your bikes loaded. No more crawling through bikes or squeezing between the rack and the vehicle to hit the tilt release lever.

The foot lever lets you easily tilt the rack down to allow access to your vehicle's rear cargo area - even with the bikes loaded. It leaves both hands free so that you can lower the rack in a controlled manner.

When the rack is unloaded you can fold it up for storage. This makes it easier to park in small lots at the trail head or in cramped parking garages, and it keeps the rack out of the way of other vehicles and riders.

Adapter Sleeve with Threaded Hitch Pin

A removable sleeve on the shank lets you convert the rack for use with 1-1/4" hitches. The rack also comes with an anti-rattle device incorporated into the shank to reduce vibration and noise in the hitch for a smooth, quiet ride. Simply tighten the hitch bolt with the included 3/4" wrench.

There is also an optional cable lock and hitch lock (PTSCLK12 - sold separately) that lets you secure your bike to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

Video Transcript for Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to be taking a look at Kuat Transfer platform style two-bike rack. Part number TS02G. That's for the color gray. It's also available in Black. TS02B.The Kuat Transfer is a platform-style bike rack with a different approach. It has no center mast.

It has a step through design so we can easily access our bikes. As you can see, there's no platform to get in our way, so it's going to make loading and unloading easy. It also has an easy to access foot petal so we can tilt the rack away, even with bikes loaded, to access our rear hatch. Again, this is easier because there no platform to get in the way.Our bikes are held in place by a wheel hook and a wheel strap. There is no frame contact.

Its a ratcheting wheel hook that puts down pressure on our front wheel into our front wheel cradle. The rear cradle uses a strap to keep the rear wheel in place. We gone ahead and removed our bikes so we can take a closer look. The front wheel cradles are going to accept road bike tires, mountain bike tires, and fat tires up to 4 1/2 inches wide. For fat bikes you will need an adapter kit sold separately with part number APBK.

The rear cradle accepts all the same tire sizes. The only difference is for fat bikes, you have to swap out the strap from your fat bike kit. Or if you prefer, you can pick up the bike rack with the fat bike kit included with part number TS02G-FB in gray, and in black part number TS02B-FB.The cradles are adjustable for bikes of different sizes. The rear one pivots within the slot. The front cradles are adjustable by loosening up the tab with the included tool, and rotating it.

This is gonna raise the bike up which can help with handlebar spacing between the two bikes. When not in use, the wheel hooks fold flat. This allows us to fold the whole bike rack up against our vehicle for compact storage. Now this is ideal for pulling into a tight parking spot or pulling your garage overnight. It has a weight capacity of 40 pounds per bike, a maximum wheelbase of 47 inches, and will accept a wheel diameter between 20 and 29 inches. The distance of the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the carrier when folded up is five inches. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the carrier when folded down is 7 1/5 inches. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the farthest edge of the carrier when folded down is 32 5/8 of an inch. The whole rack has a powder coated finish to resist rust and corrosion, and it features a limited lifetime warranty. Our customers mostly compare the Kuat Transfer to the more traditional Swagman XTC2. Compared to the Transfer, the XTC2 has a traditional platform with a center mast and hooks that contact our bikes frame. It does not tilt away, and the open wheel cradles leave your tires exposed. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll show you how to get it installed. Now, this is gonna work with inch and a quarter or two inch hitches, class one, two, and three. It includes a sleeve to work with our two inch by two inch receiver. What we'll do is feed it into our receiver tube, line up our pin holes. Once we've got it lined up, take our antiretroviral clip, and start threading that through. Once we've got it hand tightened, we can take our included tool, and finish tightening it up. Then we can just put our clip on the opposite side. Now we can get it ready to load up our bikes. The way we do that, is we take our foot, push down on the foot pedal, lower it down until it rests. Then we can raise out our wheel hooks, and undo our rear wheel straps. Now, it's recommended that you load up your heaviest bike first. So, raise it up. As you can see, that step through the design is gonna make it a lot easier to load up our bikes. W it in position, we can raise up our wheel hook, right in front of our fork or outbreak, whichever comes first. Once it makes contact, give like a push, and then it's secure. With it in position, we can then raise up our wheel hook. Now this is gonna end up in front of our fork, or our breaks, whatever comes first. I'll lower it down so it makes contact Question: our tire, and then we'll give it like a push, and then it's secure. For our rear cradle, it pivots to match or tires. Once it's seating correctly, we can run our strap through and pull it down through the other side.I've gone ahead and loaded up my second bike the same way. Now we can take it out and run our test course, and see how it performs. This is our test course. Let's start with our slalom. This shows side to side action, such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then on to our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting acton, such as hitting curves, potholes, road debris, or uneven pavement. That's gonna complete our look at Kuat Transfer platform style two bike rack, part number TS02G.

I'm really happy with my new kuat bike carrier. I'm impressed how well it secures the bikes so easily. (Both road & mtb) I also like the three different positions. (Up, middle, down) It has really came in handy transporting more than one bike now. (Use to put inside car) etrailer also shipped asap and followed up with me about my order! 491606

This is a great hitch mount bike rack. I put it on my wife's car and it's really easy to raise and lower, which she appreciates. Fits our two medium size full suspension mountain bikes perfect and adjusts for larger or smaller sizes. 544592

it does the job and it very simple to work and i like the option of 1.25 or 2" sleeve. Time will tell on the quality. We have used it regularly since June 2018 long trips 3-9 hours of driving and several local 30 min drives and never has shown signs of loosening up and bikes tumbling down the road. 562794

Rack was super easy to put together. Rack install was fairly easy. Highly recommend a helping hand or a floor Jack to hold one side of the hitch. 484330

Having owned this for a year now. It has been for the most part full time attached to my honda civic coupe 06 with no problems what so ever. Super simple to operate, even the wife can mount our bikes. Large and small transition patrol 15s. I would highly recommend this rack

The Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack is a well-designed and functional bike carrying rack. Assembly instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The tilting rack works very well, even loaded with two bikes, and provides ample clearance when opening the rear tailgate. I am very confident that my bikes will travel safe and secure on the Kuat Transfer 2. 579422

Install was straightforward. The rack seems very solid and you can't beat the price. I used the rack for the first time last night and the bike and rack did not move at all while driving. Hopefully the rack holds up in time. 503704

This is the second unit I have purchased. I bought one over a year ago and love it. I bought a second one for my son to use while he’s away at college. I really like way this design holds the bikes; very secure and easy to switch between road bikes and mountain bikes. I would strongly recommend the lock kit - just buy it right away. It’s so much better being able to leave the vehicle and never worry about your bikes being stolen. 603165

I purchased the Kuat transfer 2 bike rack for the ease of loading/unloading for my wife as we wanted a wheel mount rack. I put it together and loaded bikes up and took a test run around the neighborhood. The bikes were very stable and I believe the rack will be good for traveling. We also bought the cable lock and hitch lock kit. I wish the locking cable was long enough to go through the front wheel as well as the frame as it has the length to just go around the frame. Chedi J at etrailer was very helpful with our selection. 555242

This rack works awesome for 2 bikes! It was a bit of a challenge on assembly but my husband stated the pictures in the directions were very helpful. Once assembled it is super easy to use, lightweight, folds for storage and he had 2 bikes loaded in 5 minutes! We would highly recommend this product and feel it’s well worth the price. 499536

First every bike carrier so not much to compare to, but fit and finish seem top notch. Assembly fairly simple and installation a breeze. Bikes seem solid. I'm not concerned about them going anywhere. Fair price and from a fantastic vendor here with etrailer. Couldn't be happier. 509169

Honestly too early to review my Kuat Transfer (2 bike) but I really appreciate the ease of putting my bike in it and just go. There is a little bit of skepticism and anxiety the first time I used it since I am so used to strapping my bike via it’s frame or using a frame adapter. I have been using a Thule Vertex for so many years and this is my first time to use a platform bike carrier. I might be able to add a little insight regarding assembly though. I have read the there are issues regarding the bolts not aligning with the slots, I encountered this issue during the assembly of the front cradle. It appears that Kuat delivers the Transfer with the front cradle already “adjusted” to “UP” in relation to the puck that’s inside the FRONT tire cradle. I was able to verify or validate this is after I have assembled the carrier and I was fitting my bike and I “flipped” the BOLT LOCATOR TAB “to UP” (arrow pointing up). In other words, even though the illustration shows the locator tab arrow pointing UP, try to leave the arrow pointing “DOWN”. Just try to screw it in gently until you have a good fit until the whole tab “sinks in” and continue to screw in until the tab is almost flushed to it’s plastic molding shape. When fitting the bike, I noticed it was swaying a little bit laterally (left to right), so I loosened the locator tab, pushed the front cradle down to side and finally flipped the arrow pointing “UP”. So when the arrow points down, the front cradle is more flat, when the arrow points up, the tip of the front cradle points more down and curved to the outside. The only thing that I might recommend to Kuat is maybe red reflector stickers just to be more visible at night otherwise I’m really looking forward to using this rack for years. I chose the Transfer because of it’s price, size in relation to my car and for my reverse camera, plates not to be obstructed. As always, eTrailer delivers, best website on everything outdoors , customer service and price. 668711

Following the installation video on the product page, setting up is a cinch. Seems rock solid and built to last. I've already hauled two full suspension mountain bikes on bumpy roads with no creaking or excess swaying. 640644

We haven't used the rack yet because the snow is flying, but we are heading to warmer weather soon. I have never had a better set of directions to put something together. The screws were separated for each section and that made it a lot easier, too. Everything went together with ease and I loaded the bikes on for a dry run and it worked great. We love the feature that allows us to tilt the rack (with the bikes on) so that we can open the lift gate. The rack seems to be of quality material. I will update after our 2,000 mile trip! 588656

Great product. Would be better if the 1.25 hitch had a shim. Besides that great product and easy instal. 588346

I bought this rack because of the style latching system and the reviews. It came in this am and I put it together in about 20 minutes. The product seems great all around! I can’t wait to get some use out of it. 584743

- TS02B
by:

Exactly what I was looking for. Stable, lightweight, simple, easy to use, reasonably priced. etrailer, per usual, was solid. Shipped quickly and everything came intact. I use this primarily for mountain biking. Fits my 29er as easily as my girlfriend's 27.5. 561804

- TS02B
by:

Really like the rack. Watched assembly video on YouTube before putting together and it made assembly a breeze. Rack looks good on my 2017 Toyota Tacoma and bikes fit very well on the rack. There was only one issue With the rack that I was not very happy with, and that is the end caps on the main frame of the rack. They do not line up properly when tightened. Kuat might want to look at a redesign for this issue. The only other thing with a pickup is that you can access tailgate, but can not let tailgate all the way down. I knew that before purchasing. 524708

Another great product from eTrailer! This is a very well-made rack that is incredibly sturdy, functional, and versatile. Folds up nicely when not in use and tilting up & down is a breeze with the well-designed mechanism and foot-pedal release. This rack will hold pretty much anything with two wheels, so no more worries about which bike style my buddies or I are using that day because they all fit great! (do double check dimensions/options if your transporting a balloon tire bike ) Fits both 1 1/4" and 2" hitches, so no worries about which vehicle either. Bikes mount in a snap without removing wheels ... needless to say, couldn't be more satisfied with this well-built and cost-effective choice. 524690

Sturdy and adjustable. Exactly as advertised, no surprises or disappointments. Holds our two mountain bikes with no issues, even when we drive gravelly, pot hole filled roads. The rack arrived completely disassembled but included instructions that must be followed, otherwise the rack will not secure the bicycles correctly. 600019

The carrier was a simple assembly and install. Well written instructions and all tools were included. Operates really simply and fits my 2018 Sentra SV just as it should with the Draw Tite receiver I purchased here. Had a few questions for the etrailer folks and all were answered quickly and courteously. Couldn't be happier with my new carrier! 619136

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

This is as nice a two bike, platform hitch rack as I've seen at any price.( Getting it through etrailer made it even less expensive than everywhere else.) Everything about this rack speaks of quality. The only negative review that I saw said if left on the vehicle for a couple of years caused it to rust out. I sprayed WD-40 liquid lithium on the inside of all the steel tubes. (I learned to do this with all my archery tree stands.) I'm hoping that my wife and I are good to go for many years. And the rack sure does look nice on our new VW Tiguan! 485892

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

I ordered a Kuat Transfer 2 for my 2017 Subaru Outback with a 2" DrawTite hitch. Michael H cautioned me that the Transfer 2 would fit my vehicle but might not fold up when not in use due to proximity to the tailgate. I received the rack promptly and assembled it with no problems. It is a bit heavier than I would like but very sturdy. The rack will actually fold up OK on my car but as expected there is not much clearance. I will soon try it all out and report any issues. So far, very good experince with the rack and e-trailer. 295045

This bike rack has been great. Got it originally because I wanted something that my wife was able to use by herself and this fit the bill. Very easy and quick to get bikes on and off. Never had any issues with stability either. We've taken 2 bikes on several cross country trips from PA to UT and back and also PA to FL. Folds conveniently and the full lowered position allows me to load and unload our recumbent trike in the SUV without removing the rack. 571297

Took less than 30min to put together and is simple to operate. Was a little nervous of how stable bike would be with only the front wheel hold down, BUT once i had it locked down I took it for a test drive over some bumpy roads and was extremely impressed with how solid the bike was held. 473089

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

I like the rack as it was affordable. I tend to leave on my car often and where i live it rains often. The other day i folded the rack all the way down and rust colored water poured out of the base supports. While affordable it was still expensive and would think for what it is, this would hold up better. 604684

Comments

The Kuat transfer bike rack is made of steel so it is susceptible to rust and corrosion if left in a moist environment. If the bike rack is left in the rain in the stowed position for extended periods of time the water will get inside of the bike rack and begin to corrode the inside. Which is why is why the rust colored water poured out when you unfolded it. It is a good idea to take the bike rack off of the vehicle sometimes and make sure there is not water inside of it. If you would like to switch to a more corrosive resistant material bike rack, Kuat does offer an aluminum bike rack part # SH22P. The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 is made of mostly aluminum parts, weighs 20 lbs less than the transfer and is considered rust proof. The only real difference between the Kuat Sherpa and Transfer is the Sherpa only allows you to carry 2 bikes.

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

Kuat Carrier works fantastic; slick and quick with no required wheel removal; works well for both my 29er and 700c rigs. Kuat may consider a slight redesign relative to the lock anchor/fastener type and placement; as it is now, the lock and cable can be removed with the correct Allen/socket head wrench; a tamperproof fastener would be preferred. Thank you 465745

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

I assembled this rack pretty easily by myself in about an hour--easy instructions & all the hardware was clearly marked. Heads up: Getting the rack into the hitch was the tricky part--very hard to get it in with just 2 people. Not only is it very heavy & therefore very sturdy (52 lbs.), but the part that attaches to the hitch rotates up & down, so I needed my husband & our neighbor to lift it while I guided it into the hitch. With the 3 of us that part took only a couple of minutes. It folds up great--I thought it would add much more length to the car, but it is very compact when folded. The foot pedal is such a breeze to use. Taking the rack down takes a few seconds; at 1st I could not figure out how to reach the foot pedal when folding it back up. Then I realized I just had to swing the 1st two arms OUT to sides so I could walk in & depress the pedal. After I lifted the rack a few inches, I then could swing the arms all the way inward, & then finish snapping the rack into the folded position. The rack did wiggle a bit when I tested it by shaking it with my hand, but it not make any noise while driving, with or without the bikes on! I am very happy with it! 487012

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

Instructions were good and it was easy to put together, my wife and I had it put together and installed in about an hour. Excellent quality, heavy duty construction, holds bikes securely, no rattling, sqeaking, or excessive movement during transport either. Folds up nicely out of the way when not in use. Looks great too. WE LOVE IT! Best rack on the market and well worth the money! 468604

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

We race BMX & use this rack multiple times a week from early spring through late fall. It pretty much stays on the vehicle from March through November. The bike securing part is great. Once you secure your bikes, there's no worrying about them working loose. My only complaint is when the rack is in the upright, stowed position, it rattles a good deal as you drive. I've traced it back to the foot latch you depress to move the rack from upright, to bike hauling, to hatch access positions. In the upright position, there's just not enough tension to hold the rack still. It's fairly annoying if you pay attention to such things. i suppose such thing are to be expected when you buy the "cheap" option from kuat. 353625

Review from a similar Kuat Transfer in Hitch Bike Racks

I ordered this and a trailer hitch on Tuesday and they arrived on Friday. The products are awesome, the install videos are great, their communication was great (called to make sure I didn't want to let a $3 part hold up the order) and they sent a follow up email after delivery! When I replied to the email after hours on a Friday night I got a reply within an hour. An all around good expierience. I would say the bike rack is a great value. 285777

  • Trailer Hitch for 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JLU With Kuat Transfer 2 bike rack
  • We do not have the distances from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the spare tire for either the Draw-Tite # 76104 or Curt # C13392 hitches on a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL, unfortunately. That said, the accompanying photo does show the Curt hitch on a '18 Wrangler JL, and it sticks out to about the edge of the bumper; the Draw-Tite has some photos in the linked directions that make it look like it also sticks out to at least the edge of the bumper. Another thing to consider...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for Backup Camera Use on a 2019 Toyota Highlander
  • The best folding bike rack that will obstruct the backup camera on your 2019 Toyota Highlander the least is the Kuat Transfer. This comes in Gray # TS02G and Black # TS02B and has been test fit on a 2016 Highlander (see attached video) which is the same generation as your 2019. The biggest difference between this and a Thule hanging rack is that it is a wheel mount bike rack. The great thing about wheel mount bike racks is that it can accommodate any bike frame style as long as you don't...

  • Comparing the Kuat Transfer 2 and RockyMounts MonoRail 2 Bike Racks
  • I am personally a big fan of the Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack part # TS02B for a few reasons. The first being that the center portion is open so you can walk right up inside of the rack and place your bikes in the cradles whereas for the RockyMounts MonoRail 2 Bike Platform Rack part # RKY10003 you will have to stop at some point and lift the bike up and over the center section. The other reason I prefer the Kuat Transfer 2 is because it just has a more aesthetically pleasing look...

  • Best Bike Rack for a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime with Class I Trailer Hitch
  • In order to use a hitch mounted bike rack with your 2017 Toyota Prius Prime you need a trailer hitch. For this I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24966. The Draw-Tite Sportframe is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. The only trailer hitch receivers they make for your Prius Prime are Class I. Therefore, you will need to use only Class I rated bike racks. In addition to the class rating you need to take into consideration the recessed receiver...

The reason is that Class I hitches usually have a welded-in stop to prevent use of any accessory that is not rated as Class I. This helps to avoid accidental overloading of the hitch. You are absolutely right that there are heavier racks like the Thule EasyFold # TH903202 that...

  • We have several different options for 2 bikes that fit your 2019 VW Golf. The type of rack that is going to best serve your needs is either the platform or hanging rack. Platform racks are going to be much easier to lift the bike on and off the rack in addition to being able to carry heavier bikes. A hanging rack is going to be lighter weight to make it easier to take on and off your car when not in use and will typically be a bit more cost effective. When we measured a 2017 VW Golf we...

  • Recommended Bike Rack Stabilizer for Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Rack in Hitch of 2017 Hyundai Elantra
  • I was able to look up your order number and it sounds like you are seeing more movement than you like in the vertical movement of the Kuat Transfer 2 # TS02B in your Draw Tite # 24939 hitch receiver. Because the pin is securing it to the sides, you may simply need to tighten that bolt a little more to also stabilize the vertical movement.
