Road Runner 4 Hitch Bike Rack

When it comes to transporting your bikes, the Road Runner bicycle rack speeds past the competition. It has all the standard features you'd expect from a hitch-mounted bike rack and includes plenty of extras that are sure to keep your bikes safe and secure. And unlike many other racks, the Road Runner doesn't require tools to install the anti-rattle device or additional bungees or straps to secure your bikes - it's all included and built in.

Anti-Wobble Handle

Road Runner Shank/Anti-Wobble Handle

An integrated anti-wobble handle on the front of the carrier tightens the bike-rack shank to your hitch receiver to prevent the rack from rattling around inside the receiver. You don't need to pull out a wrench every time you install the rack on your hitch - just turn the easy-to-access handle to keep the rack from rattling. And you can tighten the thumbscrew on the back of the upright mast to help keep the mast from wobbling.

Dual Arms

Road Runner Arms

Constructed of rugged steel with a sleek black powder coat finish, the Road Runner features dual arms that support your bikes and better accommodate women's, children's and alternative frames. (An adapter bar [HRBA-PRO - sold separately] may still be required.) The arms easily fold down when the rack is not in use - just remove the tethered bail pin.

Anti-Sway Cradles

Road Runner Cradles

Rubber anti-sway cradles with straps firmly grip your bike's frame at three points to keep it from swaying front to back. This helps to keep your bikes from hitting each other and your vehicle during transit. The cradles rotate and slide along the arms, so you can easily adjust them based on the type and number of bikes you're transporting. And you can use the integrated safety strap to help keep your bikes tied down.

Anti-Sway Bar

Road Runner Anti-Sway Bar

The Road Runner makes great strides to keep your bikes secure. An anti-sway bar folds out from the bottom of the upright mast to provide another tie-down point for your bikes. Four included straps secure your bikes to the anti-sway bar to prevent the wheels and the pedals from spinning, keep the front wheels straight, and minimize the up and down movement of your bikes - all of which will help prevent bike-to-bike and bike-to-vehicle contact. This is especially helpful on lengthy road trips when you may experience crosswinds.

The anti-sway bar is simple to use. Just lower and tighten the bar with the built-in hand knob. Then thread one of the safety straps through your bike's front and rear wheels and through a loop on the anti-sway bar before tightening the strap down with the plastic buckle.

Tilting Mast

Road Runner Tilted

The Road Runner's upright mast tilts forward to allow access to your vehicle's cargo area. Once your bikes are unloaded, just remove the linchpin from the base and tilt the rack away from the vehicle.

Security System

Road Runner Hitch and Cable Locks

The Road Runner includes a hitch lock that secures the bike carrier to your vehicle's Class II, 1-1/4 inch receiver. The rack also comes with an 8-foot-long cable lock that can be fed through a welded steel loop on the bike rack. The vinyl-coated, braided steel cable will deter theft of your bikes.

Both the cable lock and the hitch lock have push-to-lock bodies and are conveniently keyed alike. Keyhole covers on the locks keep out dirt and moisture.

Video Transcript for Hollywood Racks Road Runner Tilting Bike Rack Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Roadrunner 4 Bike Rack for 1 1/4 inches hitches. Part number HR410. The Hollywood Racks Roadrunner's the ideal bike rack for your class 2 hitch receiver. It allows you to carry up to four bikes on the rear of your vehicle. It has a unique design. It uses an anti-sway bar with straps to prevent our wheels and pedals from spinning and to prevent bike to bike contact.

It's going to work with a wide variety of bikes regardless of their weight, size and frame style. We've gone ahead and removed a few bikes so we can take a closer look. The dual arms are going to provide great support for our four bikes and give us that 150 pound weight capacity. Our bikes are secured in three spots with the one piece molded cradles. We've got two straps for our top tube. The one for our seat post tube is also going to help prevent bike to bike contact and sway while we're on the road.

The larger of the two cradles features raised grooves and that's going to provide us with accommodations for brake lines and cables. We've got two reflectors here at the end of our dual arms. That's going to help our bike rack be more visible at night. All of the cradles are completely adjustable to help us with bike spacing. When we're not carrying our bikes, the dual arms fold down and the anti-sway bar folds up for compact storage. Just pull the pin, realign the holes, put the pin and clip back in.

Down here we'll use the knob. All this is ideal for pulling in your garage overnight or parallel parking. With it in this position, it also has the ability to tilt away from our vehicles so we can gain access to our rear hatch. We'll loosen up the thumb screw here to remove the clip and the pin and then we can tilt it out. Then as I said, we can open up that rear hatch to remove any cargo, gear, groceries, anything we might have with us on our trip. Here at the bottom, we have our 1 1/4 by 1 1/4 shank, we have a welded brace here that's going to provide us with more stability.

The lock and pin are included and at the very back we have our integrated anti-rattle device. The whole bike rack is made out of a rust resistant, sturdy steel construction with a black powder coat finish. It also features a limited lifetime warranty. We'll go ahead and give you some measurements just to help you determine if it's going to be a right fit for you. From the side of the hitch pin hole to the first portion of the brace here, it's about 4 inches. From the side of the hitch pin hole to the end of the rack with the arms folded down is about 13 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the very end of the arms is about 38 inches. Now that we've gone over the features I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. We'll go ahead and raise our shank up into position. When putting your shank into the receiver tube you may have to line up your anti-rattle device. We'll push it in and then line up our pin holes. Once we get that lined up, we'll take our included pin and lock and push that through and put our lock into place. Then we can make our way back here to our lever and start tightening that up. This is going to be our anti-rattle lever. By tightening this up it's going to help reduce a lot of play and rattle within our receiver tube and our bike rack to make for a nice solid ride for our bikes. In preparation for loading of our bikes, we'll need to raise up our dual arms and then bring down our anti-sway bar. For our dual arms, remove the pin and clip up top, rotate it up realigning the holes, put that in place. For our anti-sway bar, we'll loosen up the knob, bring it out, lock in to position and then tighten it back up. Now we're just about ready to load up a bike. Let's go ahead and undo our strap here and then our strap over here. Now we'll bring in our first bike. For some bikes it can definitely help to adjust the cradles a little bit. That way you can get it around your frame. Work our way to the back and then set it in place. We'll make sure that our seat post tube is nice and snug up against our cradle here. We'll bring our strap around and then connect it together. Then we'll do our top two straps. With our first bike on, let's go ahead and grab one of our anti-sway straps. We'll go through our front wheel, through the first eyelet on our anti sway bar and then through our rear wheel and then we'll go through our buckle here and then back out. This is going to help prevent our tires from spinning as well as prevent our bike from swaying while we're on the road. Get it nice and tight. We'll take our excess strap and then bundle it up. As you can see I've gone ahead and loaded up three more bikes. Some bikes such as women's, children's and bikes with alternative frame styles may require the use of a bike adapter bar to sit evenly on the cradles. Hollywood Racks makes one and that's part number HRBA-PRO. For added security, Hollywood Racks has provided us with a cable lock so we can lock in our bikes. It's pretty easy to use. We're just going to go straight back to our center mast, we'll go through the frames, we'll pass through the eyelet here at the rear of the center mast and then back over the frames. We'll come back out through the front and you'll notice there's some excess so I'm just going to wrap that around my bike a few times and then connect it together. Perfect. With everything all loaded up let's go ahead and take it out on our test course and see how it performs. Here on our test course, let's first go into our slalom. This is going to show side to side action such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our our alternating speed bumps. This is going to show a twisting action such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. Then onto our solid speed bumps. This is going to show an up and down action such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking lot. That's going to complete our look at the Hollywood Racks Roadrunner 4 Bike Rack for 1 1/4 inches hitches. Part number HR410.

I bought my first Hollywood rack 15 years ago and am still using it. I got a smaller hitch and needed a new rack - so of course I got a new Hollywood 4-bike carrier. It works great! When I've need parts or had questions, the company has been very responsive. I wish all companies made stuff this good! 363316

etrailer was very helpful in picking out the right trailer hitch mounted bike rack and after this weekend of biking (and carrying our bike on the rack), I can say the rack worked great. It was easy to load and held the bike steady. Many thanks. 523029

If the unit is not loaded down with bikes, it rattles constantly. Which get annoying. I understand there is a tension handle that can be cranked but the design still allows for rattling. 654798

Review from a similar Hollywood Racks Road Runner in Hitch Bike Racks

I've been using this bike rack for over a year and am overall very happy with the performance and quality. It is easy to remove and reinstall, and the straps are sturdy. There is a little slop in the fit between the hitch and the bike rack itself, even with the locking pin tightening mechanism. 521832

This four bike rack is superior. We have a Jeep with the mounted rear spare tire, so we needed an extra long connector piece. Everything works great, a good price, great customer service. Thanks fr filling an unusual need. 380176

  • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for 2018 Kia Niro
  • Sounds like you are getting a lot of conflicting info on fitting a 4-bike hitch rack to your 2018 Kia Niro. I can help you accomplish carrying a 4-bike rack with your vehicle but we do not offer a 2 inch hitch for your vehicle. Reason being that 2 inch hitches are only used typically on larger vehicles with heavier capacities. But since the Curt hitch for your vehicle part # C13329 is a Class II it can allow you to carry a 4 bike rack. Only issue is that none of the Class II 4-bike racks...

  • What Lock Will Work With Thule Vertex Bike Rack
  • You will need to purchase a lock separately for the Thule Vertex 4 Bike Rack TH9029XT because while this rack does come with a built-in anti-rattle device if you want to lock it to your vehicle it does require the Snug-Tite hitch lock # THSTL2. There are 4-bike hanging racks that do have both hitch and cable locks that come with the rack such as the Hollywood Racks Road Runner # HR410 which fits a 1-1/4 inch hitch or # HR400 which fits a 2 inch hitch.
