Sport Rider 2 Hitch Bike Rack for Fat Bikes

The Sport Rider platform-style hitch bike rack makes it simple to carry 2 fat bikes on the rear of your vehicle. This versatile rack is easy to use, and it features locking frame hooks and wheel hoops specifically designed for fat tires, so you can quickly load and unload your bikes. The included adapter sleeve enables the rack to fit both 1-1/4" and 2" hitch receivers. An anti-rattle system tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the tube.

Locking, Ratcheting Hooks

hooks

The Sport Rider uses locking frame hooks to secure your bikes. These ratcheting, cushioned hooks easily adjust along the vertical mast and lock securely in place. The release buttons allow each hook to slide up the ratcheting arm for bike removal. The hooks function independently, which means you can position them to carry bikes of different heights.

Adjustable Wheel Hoops

Sport Rider 2 Fat Bike Wheel Holders

The wheel hoops are wider than standard cradles and will hold tires up to 5" wide. They accommodate bicycles with wheelbases up to 60" by sliding along the horizontal arms. They secure in place with easy-to-use hand knobs, and the Velcro-like hook-and-loop straps fasten the wheels to the hoops.

Sport Rider 2 Fat Bike Wheel Holders

The rack also comes with 2 sets of standard-size cradles, giving you the option of carrying 2 fat bikes, 2 standard bikes, or 1 of each.

Folding, Tilting Design

HR1000 Tilted

The rack tilts, with or without bikes loaded, for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Simply remove the pin from the base and tilt the platform down.

HR1000 Folded

The rack also folds up against the back of your vehicle when it's not in use. To raise the rack, just lower the mast flat against the tray and then lift the rack up toward the back of the vehicle.

Easy Installation with Locking Hitch Pin

The rack easily installs in the hitch with the locking hitch pin. Just slide the shank into your receiver, insert the hitch pin, and attach the lock pod. The locking pin works as an anti-wobble device to eliminate sway and rattle in the receiver.

hitch adapter

A removable adapter sleeve is included so the rack can be converted for use with 1-1/4" hitch receivers. The sleeve attaches to the shank with a single screw and can be installed or removed quickly.

Add-On Adapters

 Hollywood Racks Wheel Hoop Adapters

If you want to use the rack to transport a kid's bike with 16" or 18" wheels, wheel hoop adapters (sold separately) are available.

If you want to transport one recumbent delta trike or one recumbent tadpole-style trike with the Sport Rider, you can use the HRTRK-ADP adapter (sold separately).

Video Transcript for Hollywood Racks Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2012 Toyota 4Runner

Speaker 1: Today on our 2012 Toyota 4Runner, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Hollywood Racks sport rider two bike rack for fat bikes. That's part number HR1000Z-FB. So I've already got it loaded up just to give you a good idea what it looks like and how it's going to hold our bikes. Now, not only does it hold fat bikes, but it's going to hold those standard tire bikes too. The kit actually comes with a total of eight cradles. So, you're going to get for fat bike cradles that'll hold fat tires up to 5 inches wide.

And you're also going to get those standard bike cradles, that'll hold tires up to 3 inches wide. So it's going to allow you to carry a wide variety of bikes. Now, it holds our bikes by the top tube. This rubber coated frame hook puts down pressure into the cradles, keeping our bike in place. So at the wheel cradles we've got a hook and loop strap that goes over that wheel.

Now one of its best features is, it has the ability to tilt away so we can gain access to our rear hatch, and that's with bikes loaded. That's a huge plus. What we want to do is we want to remove these pins at the base. We've got a main one that goes right through here. And then a smaller one that we also need to take out. So with those both removed, we can tilt the bike rack away, and then we've got more than enough room to open up the rear hatch.

Now, depending on your bike, you may be able to get a little bit more out of your rear hatch, so just keep that in mind. You can see how our fat bike's handlebars extend over so we can't take advantage of that full access. But still more than enough room to move any large items. Then we'll just raise it back up. And what I like to do is replace that smaller pin first.

That way I've got something to rest on while I reach for that larger pin and push that through. Now in some cases you may need to push up or pull down to make it easy to insert that pin.Let's go ahead and take off our bike. We'll start by undoing the hook and loop straps first. And as far as our frame hook, we'll want to make sure these are up and out of the way to do this. Now, what I'd like to mention is that with this sport rider, you have the option to remove the Phillips head screw behind the center mast and completely remove these frame hooks. By doing this, it could make it a little bit easier to remove that first bike. For demonstration purposes, I'm going to leave it in place just because it takes a little bit more time to do. I'm going to go ahead and replace these wheel straps, just because I don't like to leave him hanging while I'm on the road. Let's go ahead and grab some measurements. So overall to the 4Runner, we've added about 32 inches. For the closest point, we're looking at about 10 inches. And at the very back here, our ground clearance is about 25 inches. Now, when we're not carrying bikes, the center mast folds down to the right. Just remove that pin and replace it once it's folded. Now with it in this position, we don't need to worry about tilting it away, we can easily open up that rear hatch to remove any of that gear. Now, you can stow it like this as you're driving around if you'd like, but if you want just a little bit more clearance, go ahead and remove that pin. Bring it up, and replace it to lock it in place. Now, this is ideal for pulling in your garage, or in a tight parking spot. Let's grab a few more measurements. So with it folded up, we are now about 16 and a half inches. The closest point looks like it's going to be our cradle at about 10 and a half inches away here. And at the very bottom, we're looking at about 18 inches. Go ahead and get another closest point here. So yeah, just to make sure, we're about 10 and a half inches away from the cradle, and what our original closest point was. So, that's about the same. Now, the nice thing about this trail rider is it can be used for inch and a quarter or two inch receivers. That's class one or class two. The included sleeve slides over that inch and a quarter shank and adapts it to that two inch receiver. Now, it includes an anti rattle bolt and a lock. The nice thing about the anti rattle bolt, it's going to help reduce all that play and rattle from our receiver and our bike rack to make a nice solid ride for our bikes. With it all tightened up, as you can see, we're giving it a good shake there and it's moving the whole vehicle. But that's going to complete our test fit of the Hollywood Racks sport rider two bike rack for for fat bikes. Part number HR1000Z-FB on our 2012 Toyota 4Runner.

Rack came well packed and in perfect condition. The instructions are clear. Fits snuggly in 1.25" class one hitch with no wobble. The instruction say to have hooks secure frame at lowest point. I have two crank forward bikes with step through frames. The hooks won't go low enough to secure them at the desired point, so they touch where the frame is on an angle with a swim noodle for extra height and padding. Without the hooks attached and the upright bar lowered, my bikes are very easy to load. I really like that the rack and bikes can be locked and are keyed alike. 660069

The first time I used it, the foam of the top racheting bars has ripped and the short 5 mile trip caused the paint on the top bar to be scratched thru to the metal. Very disappointing. I may try to duct tape the foam back together. But to be safe, you should put some cloth or material where the top locking hook and the bike make contact. It's a hassle, and I'm annoyed by the damage to my bike, so I rate this as 3 star, since it did seem sturdy. 229857

Pros: Easy to install. Easy to load and unload bike. Although trunk does not open completely on a 2009 Mazda 6 while bikes are loaded on the rack, the tilt feature on the rack enables you to open the trunk completely while the bikes are loaded. Areas for improvement: The directions were not easy to follow. Could be made simpler with more pictures and less words. Other comments: While the rack is loaded there is quite a bit of bouncing around while driving. Not sure if this was intentional in order to provide flexibility or what. It does not feel unsafe but it is noticeable. If it is unsafe I feel confident etrailer will reach out to me. Happy with purchase. 273017

Decent rack and good value. Good service from eTrailer. I've had the rack for about a month and generally it has worked well for me. I was able to get it installed fairly easily and the range of positions and ability to use it with my bike that has fenders were pluses for me. Bikes have remained securely in place while driving. Critiques that led to my giving it a 4 was that I have found it a little fiddly when changing between the different positions, particularly when trying to tilt the rack away to open the rear hatch with two bikes mounted. Also, I would have liked some type of welded loop to attach the optional cable lock, which I also purchased. The hitch lock has worked well. 307682

We received the bike rack faster than we expected. I had good service with questions by telephone and placed my order online. The directions to put the bike rack together we're fairly easy. The bike rack does have some wobble in the hitch mount so my husband used a shim and now it doesn't wobble at all. Our hitch is a 2 inch hitch. It is very easy to load the two bikes. We use a couple of Velcro strip tie downs as additional security attaching the bike frame to the center stand post. We purchased the Locking hitch pin and the Locking cable HRLHPTC that go with the Hollywood Rack Sport Rider 2. It comes with four keys keyed-alike. We are very happy with our purchase. 305630

For the price I paid, I am very happy with the bike rack. After a year of frequent use, it works just as well as it did the first day. In retrospect, I wish I had paid a little extra for a model that does not require the removal of pins to tilt it up and down, but again, for the price I paid, I am very happy. 320533

The only problem I have with this trike rack is the mounting height. As I am elderly almost 81 , the height I have to lift the trike is problematic. I have talked to Hollywood and we are investigating making a mounting bar without the offset. This would lower the height to a more mangeable point and make it easer to load 79519

Comments
Working out just fine. The straight bar lowers the rack to a more manageable height.

Installed the HR1000 and the Drawtite hitch. Was very easy. The photos and videos on etrailer website were great, being able to refer to them for any questions during the assembly. The rack works great and we are able to open the hatchback on the rear of the prius without even having to tilt the rack and bikes back. VERY pleased. 160466

I would have given this bike rack a 5 star except for two issues. 1. the instructions to put it together are hard to understand but keep in mind I do not following them anyway but it was simple to put together 2. When it tips away from the vehicle with the bikes on the inside the pickup the end gate will hit the bike peddles, a fix for that is to extend the main tube from the receiver hitch accordingly. I did not try it on a SUV with the hatch. I think that would work fine. I also like the way it folds up when there is no bikes on it so it is out of the way (see picture) It is a well made bike rack and I would definitely recommend it 836833

Pros: Great rack for our two bikes! Fits nicely into the class 1 trailer hitch on my wife's Nissan Altima. Easy to use and holds bikes securely even on highway and gravel country roads. Locking bike arms and locking hitch bolt are a nice feature to deter theft. Would buy again! Cons: Locking bike arms work well overall but require just the right touch to make them go up when you want to take your bike off. Hitch bolt is longer than it needs to be, but not too difficult to use. 794870

I purchased this hitch to carry my trike and it works great! I'm older and it's pretty easy to get my bike on it..just have to pick up the back end and walk it around and place on the tracks. With this though I am able to take my trike anywhere..great investment! I would definitely recommend this product. 789729
