Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

This hitch-mounted bike rack lets you securely transport up to 2 bikes on the back of your vehicle. The anti-sway cradles securely hold your bikes during transport. Plus, the rack tilts away from your vehicle for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. This bike rack can be used with both 1-1/4" (Class II only) and 2" hitch receivers and comes with a stabilizer strap for added support.

Dual Folding Arms

Dual folding arms of the Curt bike rack

This rack's sturdy dual arms provide excellent support for your bikes. When you're not carrying bikes, simply remove the tethered bail pin to fold the arms down. This folding design allows you to leave the carrier mounted on your vehicle when it's not in use.

Anti-Sway Cradles

Curt bike rack anti-sway cradles

Anti-sway cradles with rubber straps help to hold your bikes securely on the rack. The straps secure each bike frame to the cradles in 3 spots - 2 on the top tube and 1 on the downtube - to help prevent bike-to-bike and bike-to-car contact. And the cradles rotate to grab your bike frames at optimal angles. Grooves in the cradles keep your brake lines from getting twisted or pinched.

Tilting Mast for Easy Access to Cargo Area

Curt bike rack tilting

Getting into your rear cargo area is easy, even if the bike rack is loaded. Remove the pin and clip that hold the rack in the upright position. Then tilt the rack away from the vehicle for easy access into your cargo area.

Curt bike rack tilting

A horizontal bar built into the base of the rack keeps the mast from pivoting too far forward and holds it in place while you access your cargo area. When you're finished getting in your trunk, simply raise the mast back up and replace the pin and clip.

Anti-Wobble Hitch Pin and Adapter Sleeve

Threaded hitch pin and shank prevent rattle and wobble of the Curt bike rack

The included threaded hitch pin helps to keep the rack from moving and rattling around inside of your vehicle's hitch by pulling the shank tight to the side of the receiver.

Curt bike adapter sleeve installed

The included adapter sleeve lets you use this bike in a 1-1/4" or a 2" hitch receiver. To install the 2" adapter sleeve, simply bolt it to the bike rack's shank using the included hardware.

Stabilizing Strap Provides Support

Curt bike rack with stabilizing strap in use

The included stablizing strap provides added support by anchoring the rack to your vehicle. This helps to reduce unwanted movement of the rack while you drive. It also helps to take the load off your hitch, which is why the strap is required for use with Curt 1-1/4" (Class I and Class II) and some 2" (Class III) trailer hitches. The strap attaches to the upper center section of the bike rack, in between the dual arms, and to the trunk or rear window of your vehicle. The strap easily cinches tight to provide secure support while the rack is in use.

Tie-down rung on the mast of the Curt bike carrier

A built-in rung on the back of the upright mast provides an anchor point for a wheel and handlebar support strap or cable lock (each sold separately) to keep your bikes' handlebars and wheels from moving during transport. Simply thread the strap through the rung and through your bikes' wheels to immobilize them. You can also use a cable lock in conjunction with the strap to secure your bikes to the rack.

Many racks to select from on the internet but this rack has turned out to be a good choice and is doing the job. It is strong and sturdy. /easy to assemble and operate. It is installed in a Curt 2" hitch. Using the anti-rattle bolt to hold the rack in place, the connection was solid with no movement. The rack carried two bikes total weight about 75 to 80 pounds with no problem and did not use the upper support strap. A slight amount of twist movement is noticeable due to the allowable movement of the base and top hinges on the support pole, but this was not noticeable during transport of the bikes. The fold down capability worked well and quite clear of the lifting rear door. The only issue that comes with a strong sturdy well built bike rack is a bit more weight than anticipated. Ground clearance for the bikes is excellent. No worries of dragging the bikes when entering a steep driveway or road gutter.

I purchased a Draw-Tite hitch receiver along with this Curt bike rack. Excellent combination. But I had a different purpose for them... they held a medical transport chair for a 4500 mile trip. Perfect! The video showing how to install the hitch receiver was excellent, too. Thanks, etrailer... great prices & great service!

Comments
Still great! The bike rack and medical transport chair have traveled thousands of miles with NO problems.

The rack is generally ok but there is a lot of sway in the unit. Our bikes, a couple of which are quite expensive, have stayed fixed and not fallen off but it is not inspiring a lot of confidence. I bought a self sticking 1/8” rubber pad to fill the gaps in the connection to the hitch (also a Curt). It remains to be seen how that works; the hitch receiver is still wider and tends to get rough and rusty over time. So I think the patch will get worn. Not sure if I will need to just pony up and buy a Thule at some point.

Comments
I couldn’t quite get rid of the sway. I felt more secure using a trunkhatch mounted tack. It’s solid and reasonably well made but didn’t work for me.

Came on time. Fits great on my Nissan Versa SV. Haven't had a chance to carry a bike yet but it rides much higher than my old one since it is 1 1/4 hitch receiver capabilities.

by:

Strong construction and ez to mount. A big improvement over those racks that mount on the truck or hatchbaxk, but the hitch mount unit still needs webbing straps that attach to the car's door jambs. My only concern has been chafing of these straps on the car's paint.

Comments
The door jam hooks should have protective foam on them to protect the paint. If the strap is rubbing, perhaps a car wax added to where it lands should do the trick.

The major disappointment is the bicycle carrier. Nowhere online did I see how the 1 ¼” shank fit into the 2” receiver. Every hitch I have ever used was held in place by a pin and hitch pin clip or pin and lock. Your design of using a threaded pin and hitch pin clip makes installation and removal of the bicycle rack very cumbersome. Also, I had to cut away more of the fascia than the 4.5” by 6” section cited in the hitch mounting instructions. And additional cutting had to be done with the fascia in place.
Frankly I would not have purchased the bicycle carrier if I was aware of the difficultly mounting and removing it from the hitch.

Comments
Sorry the bike rack was not as expected. This rack actually comes with a threaded anti-rattle pin. Because this comes with a 2 inch adapter, the threaded anti-rattle pin keeps things tighter than a regular pin and clip. You can see it being installed here at the 2:20 mark:

Purchasing this bike rack on line was easy. Shipping was ok and came undamaged. The rack seemed to look of good quality. Was easy to use and secure in my hitch. After using the straps and tightening all bolts it still has some wobble which is why I did not give it 5 stars. All in all it’s been a good bike rack.

Comments
The bike rack still has a wobble that I don’t like, after tighten the tension bolt in back it stripped out and appears I have to live with the wobble.
Bill E - 04/26/2021

Thank you for your review. Because this rack for a 1 1/4" and 2", you would benefit from an anti-rattle device.

After years of biking my wife and I decided we would like to try a tandem bike but all we had was the Dodge Journey for a transport vehicle. I scoured the internet and decided on the C18029. I was disappointed upon opening the box that the assembly instructions clearly stated that it was not intended for tandem bicycles but I went ahead with assembly and low and behold, I’m sure it will work!
I haven’t road tested it yet but I’m very impressed with the rugged construction and basic functions of this bike rack. The only reason I haven’t given it a 5 star rating is because I have not used it yet. Still snow on the ground up here in northern Maine.

by:

So far, the bike rack has worked perfect. Mounted on a 30ft. class-C motorhome with the 2" receiver hitch adapter.

by:

Setup was easy. A simple open end wrench and two allen wrenches were included, and would have been sufficient, but I used my ratchet and socket wrench instead. Installation on the SUV was also simple. All of the pieces needed were included, and fit well together. I have used the rack for a couple of short trips. A strap and hook were included, to secure/support the hitch to the vehicle, and instructions say the strap is *required* for use when the rack is used with a 1.25" hitch. The "hook" is flat steel, covered in plastic, so I don't think it will mar the finish where it attaches. The rack and bike sway a little more than I like when driving over uneven surfaces like gutters and speed bumps, and I plan to use a couple more straps, just because I like a "rock-solid" feel. Speaking of "solid", the component parts of this rack are all a lot heftier feeling than I expected, it doesn't feel flimsy or weak. Also, the rubber hold-down straps are very solid feeling. Overall I am very pleased, especially when I compare the cost of this unit to others I looked at at local shops.

Comments
I am still very pleased with the rack. Mounting the rack for use, and removing for storage are simple tasks. I use a socket wrench instead of the open end wrench, but a simple wrench would work fine. If I needed another rack, I would stick with this brand and style.

Wrecked my wife’s bike first time using it. Very heavy, built like a tank. Lots of play both side to side and up/down. Perhaps need a bigger 2” adapter to take up some slack. Seemed trustworthy until less than a mile on the highway, her bike was starting to fall off. Before I could make a complete stop in the breakdown lane, her brand new $600 Trek fell off and got badly messed up. Had it fallen off 10 seconds earlier (or if I hadn’t noticed it looked funny in the mirror), it would have caused an accident for sure for the cars behind us. Wife in tears. I’m pissed. Their rubber straps do not work. That’s why I just now put some husky ratchet straps on as well to actually make it work without ruining your bike.

by:

Very easy to assemble and install! Great quality product - the only thing I did not like about it was the fact that the bolt used for the hitch is not a common size - so if getting a hitch lock, you need to be aware of that. The one that works for this rack is at least double the cost as most others - so you need to factor that into the investment cost. But great product!

by:

this is a good solid rack. I have been using it for a 35# fat bike. although there is play in the rack, largely in the post, the fit in the hitch receiver is snug and solid. I don't think the play in the post, while disconcerting, is an issue unless the driving is rough. in that case I would use supplemental straps. I have come not to expect service from the usual on line company but trailer is a distinct exception. shipping is quick and the product information is reliable and thoughtfully written. i recommend this rack

by:

I responded saying the bike rack is working just ok. A couple suggestions: 1) Instead of having the top part be two pieces I would have it as one(it would reduce wobbling). 2) The stabilizer strap does not provide any additional support as the adjustable clamp/pinch slides when tightened. I discarded that and rigged a strap crank tie down to stabilize it. The strap is necessary for use with both the 1 1/4 and 2 inch adapter(I have used both). Also, the bolt used to attach the rack to the hitch is too long. The pin on the opposite side of the bolt head is not flush to the hitch. Maybe provide two bolts, one shorter one for 1 1/4 size and one for 2 inch size.

Just trying to help you guys build a better product,

by:

It seems needlessly heavy, and was a challenge to assemble. Why the main shaft is in two parts I can't imagine. The diagrams are not clear, and the parts are called by different names in the parts diagram vs. the instructions.

by:

Very well designed and manufactured. The pairing of hitch and rack thst I purchased will definitely keep all safe. I purchased the two bike rack version but the material, I am confident, would support a four bike rack. I was surprised by the rack's weight, then compared the Curt etrailer to the two primary name brands and the etrailer is only about 5 lbs heavier than the comparable. The price for the reduced weight of the more expensive racks is about $40 a pound.

Then there are the installation videos. They are easily followed and thorough. In the box, no missing parts, no cheap parts. Well, there is the 3/4" / 19 mm wrench for assembling the rack, the primary purpose of which is to remind you to immediately get out your ratchet set or borrow one from a friend.

by:

I got this bike rack because the shipping date kept getting pushed back on the Thule model I wanted. So, I went with this one. This Curt rack is very sturdy and well constructed. I have no regrets about purchasing the Curt rack instead of the Thule. I am sure it will perform well for me over many years.

by:

Great bike rack, especially for the price. Hauls my new Cannondale Trail 8 with ease!!!

by:

Great product. Works perfectly for my bike and my Fiat 500e and the trailer hitch I bought. The tilt feature works exactly as promised and allows the lift back to open even with a bike on the bike rack. Very pleased!

by:

Very tight fitting parts. Where the two main stems come together with two bolts was the only wobbly portion; I took it apart and added two layers of black gorilla tape, about 1/2” wide, one layer above the top bolt hole & one layer below the bottom bolt hole. Perfect fix. Instead of the tiny wrench that is in the pkg, I used a 19 m socket, make sure to use deep socket, a couple of bolts extend past the nuts.

by:

The fitting to use the smaller tongue in a larger receptacle is not very stable.

Comments
The spacer for 1.25 to 2 allows too much play so that rack wobbles.

by:

Not very happy with the connection to the trailer hitch!!! The bicycle rack sways too much. I think the design is poor. I will be looking to purchase another bike that fits better into the trailer hitch.

Comments
Thanks for your product review on your Curt Bike rack C18029, and if you are interested you may want to consider checking that allen bolts on the hitch adapter if you are using it in a 2 inch hitch and make sure that the hitch sleeve is properly secured. Another option would be to use one of our stabilizers like either the # RM-061
Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2" Trailer Hitches
$33.74
for a 2 inch hitch or the # RM-061-125
Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches
$33.22
for an 1-1/4 inch hitch.

Works fine and looks the business. Got a hitch and harness as well, and am looking forward to using them all.

by:

The rack is sturdy and strong in a 2" hitch mount. Carries the bikes well without a secondary strap. Provides great access to the rear compartment of the SUV. This is my second Curt 2 rack after my first one was damaged in a rear end auto mishap with bikes on board. The major damage sustained by the rack was the 1 1/4" bar on the hitch mount shank was slightly bent along with the flanges at the base of the post. However the rack stayed in place and did not lose the bikes. The rack was able to still carry the bikes home. I was impressed with how well the rack held up to the accident given the damage my car received.

Easy install, came as advertised and ti mely.

  • Measuring to Determine if Bike Rack Will Clear Spare Tire on Jeep Wrangler
The Curt Bike Rack # C18029 is approved for use with a motorhome, and to determine if it will clear the spare tire on your Jeep Wrangler there are a couple measurements. Just take something with a straight edge like a yardstick and hold it against the back of your Jeep's spare tire and then use a tape measure to find the distance from the center of your hitch pin hole to the straight edge (like in the accompanying photo), and that's the amount of clearance you will need. But for a 2 bike rack that's great on price and very solid the Hollywood Racks # HR200Z does an excellent job at staying stable. I attached a test course video for that as well.

  • Will Curt 2 Bike Rack Fit Volkswagen Beetle with 1-1/4 inch Hitch Receiver
As long as the trailer hitch on your Volkswagen Beetle is a Class II 1-1/4" receiver and you have no more than 6-1/2" from the center of your hitch pin hole to the rearmost part of your bumper the Curt 2 Bike Rack # C18029 will work great for you! • Can I Open the Rear Hatch of a 2015 Subaru Crosstrek with a Thule Passage Trunk Bike Rack Installed
I may have a solution for you, but you're not going to be able to open the rear hatch of your 2015 Subaru Crosstrek XV with the Thule Passage # TH910XT while bikes are attached since the added weight of the bikes would likely damage the hinges/shocks on the gate. I'll also add that after opening the hatch while the rack is attached without bikes installed, you'll want to re-tighten everything just to make sure nothing became loose during the process. If you've got a trailer hitch on your...

  • 2-Bike Rack that Can be Used on a Travel Trailer and Vehicle and Fits 1-1/4 Inch and 2 Inch Hitches
ecause the ride at the back of a trailer is so much harsher than on a passenger vehicle a bike rack would have to meet certain structural requirements to be strong enough for that application. Some racks are but most are not. Curt bike rack # C18029 does not meet these requirements but I do have a solution for you. The Swagman Trailhead # S63381 is rated for use on a travel trailer. But it can only be used in a a 2 inch hitch. In fact all of our bike racks are currently (May 2022) only...
