Video Transcript for Equal-i-zer Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - EQ91-00-6080 Review

Today we're going to be looking at a two inch inch ball for the equalizer weight distribution systems. This is going to offer a weight capacity of eight thousand pounds. It's made from a sturdy steel construction with a durable rust resistant double chrome plating. It's also going to come with the lock washer and the nut included for your installation. This nut is going to need to use a one and seven eighth inch socket, to get it all the way installed. You will want to get it torqued down to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. To get your torque rating you'll need to refer to the tag that came with the hitch ball.

If you need a one and seven eighth inch socket, we do sell those at etrailer.com and have a couple of options that would work great for this particular hitch ball set up. The unit is also going to feature wrench flats on the side, which makes for an easier installation. The product exceeds SAEJ684 testing and certification. It's made in the USA. The ball diameter is two inch. When it comes to the dimensions of the shank.

Diameter of the shank is going to be an inch and a quarter. Then that shank length, that's going to measure two and one quarter inches long. Again it's got the weight capacity of eight thousand pounds. That's going to do it for today's look at the two inch hitch ball for equalizer weight distribution systems.

I ordered a ball hitch, ball, trailer wiring harness and 1 7/8" socket. The customer service was outstanding. I mentioned that I needed my order quickly. The rep I worked with researched and found one of the items I ordered was out of stock and would delay the shipment. The rep helped me rework the order and gave special attention to making sure this was done with minimal price increase. She really went the extra mile. The next day I decided I wanted to add on a wiring tester. This meant cancelling and re-booking the order. The rep, a different one this time, took special care to get everything right and make sure I didn't lose any of the items prior to cancelling the original order. The order came very quickly - and that was with free shipping - and the quality of the items is excellent. I only have two concerns with the order. 1) Be wary of installing the ball on the ball hitch. For the ball I ordered, the manufacturer requires 430 lb. ft. of torque. You will likely have a difficult time finding a torque wrench that handles over 300 lb. ft. If you do find one, plan on forking out several hundred dollars for it. You will either have to improvise or find a mechanic who is also likely to improvise as they may not have the proper equipment. This is the one thing I didn't plan for. 2) By no fault of the reps, they had to cancel then re-book the order just to add a $5 item. That points to a very cumbersome order taking system. It adds a lot of unnecessary hassle and may introduce errors into the order. Having said this, the positive of this experience far outweighs the two negative points. 432522

Figured out on Saturday what type of anti-sway hitch I needed to order, receive and install by Wednesday night. Tried another site, they couldn't meet the deadline, turned to google and discovered etrailer. Called at 1 PM on Saturday and talked to Steve Z, he got the order placed, and promised to check the status and follow up with me on Sunday. Everything was delivered on Tuesday and that night the hitch was installed, a day ahead of schedule. I don't expect to have a high need for towing / trailering, but when I do I'll be checking and calling etrailer first. On a scale of 1 to 10 their customer service is a 15. 426867

Do you have a question about this Hitch Ball?

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2013 Forest River R-Pod 177
  • A weight distribution system is a good idea anytime there is a noticeable drop on the rear suspension of your vehicle. It is also a good idea if you are experiencing any sway to help minimize that trailer wander with wind gusts and passing traffic. Your 245 lb dry tongue weight along with 36 gallon fresh water tank will double that weight. The Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17050 you referenced will help with the distribution and reduce sag but will not help at all with...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution For Trailer With Total Tongue Weight Between 350 and 600 lbs
  • A weight distribution system that is rated too high for your total tongue weight of your loaded trailer and cargo behind the rear axle, can be an issue. You won't cause damage to your truck or trailer, but it can cause a rigid ride and in the worst cases can even cause the trailer to bounce which obviously means the traction isn't where it needs to be for proper control. Based on the info you gave, I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion -...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System With Sway Control For 21-Ft Trail Lite Camper
  • The best way to determine what system will work for you is to know what your total tongue weight is. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully-loaded-ready-to-tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. You will then want to find a system where your total tongue weight falls near the middle of the tongue weight range for the system. Getting a system that is too small will be useless, but getting a system that is too big...

  • The head in the picture is the Reese # RP54980 however the trunnion spring bars to fit are no longer available. Unfortunately, your best bet may be to replace the entire system. If an 800 pound rated system is enough for you I recommend the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-1000. It uses brackets for the spring bars so you don't need to mess with chains. You'll need a hitch ball to go with it so use # 63840 for a 2-5/16 inch ball or # EQ91-00-6080 for a 2 inch ball. With that being said you...

  • Best Weight Distribution System for a Jayco Hummingbird 17 RK
  • In order to choose the correct weight distribution system, you will need to find the total tongue weight (TTW) of your towing setup by adding the tongue weight (TW) of both your loaded ready to tow trailer and any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. An easy way to find this would involve using a tongue weight scale like the Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale part # 5780. • Based on my research the 2019 Palomino Palomini 181FBS has a GVWR of 4,408 pounds. This is the most it can weigh when fully loaded. A weight distribution system will be beneficial anytime the trailer weight is more than half of the tow vehicle's weight. Since your 2014 Silverado 1500 weighs around 4,800 to 5,200 pounds I definitely recommend using a weight distribution system. If you are under the 600 lb rating then you are perfectly fine though it might not perform as well as when you are right in the sweet spot which is about 800 lbs for this particular system. Also, with weight distribution the amount of weight you have stored behind the tow vehicle's rear axle acts as tongue weight on the hitch.
