Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - 63847 Review

Today we'll be taking a look at part number 63847. This is the Tow Ready hitch ball with the of 2 5/16 inch diameter and a medium shank, rated at 7500 pounds. The diameter of our shank is right at an inch, and the length of our shank is 2 1/8 long. This is going to fit ball mounts with a thickness of 3/8 of an inch to 7/8 of an inch. It has this nice strong finish which is going to help it stand up against the elements, and again it's rated at 7500 pounds. We'll go ahead and show you how it is installs. What you do is you take your ball mount and take your ball.

Slide it through the hole. Put on the lock washer and secure it with the knot. Now, you will want it to be sure to go and twerk it down to the manufacturer's recommendations. Once we would have that finger tight, what you do is you take your inch, secure it here at the holds. Take another inch and twerk it down to the specifications from the manufacturer.

Now, it's going to complete today's review of part number 63847, the hitch ball from Tow Ready. .

My trailer has cut through some of the chrome but the ball is holding up very well. We do not grease this one as we have with some in the past due to pulling it out and carrying it around a lot as we switch out sizes of hitches in the receiver for different trailers. Using a 10K hydraulic trailer on this ball and there are no signs of real wear on the ball itself. 549245

Well made and the finish is very nice. The threads are smooth and there are wrench flats on the ball side, makes tightening the nut easier. It should be noted that the load rating on this one is 7500 lbs, due to the one inch shank. A good value at Etrailer. 727005

I just bought a new trailer that is 7 feet longer than my last and heavier and I now have a truck instead of an SUV so I needed to get a new weight distribution hinge with sway control. etrailer had all the best brands at the best price and delivery was fast. Unfortunately that's all I can comment on so far. I'm not picking up the new trailer till mid April, so I can't comment on how well it works or show pictures. I'll update later. 616699

  • What Size Wrenches Should be Used to Install Trailer Hitch Ball # 63847
The wrench flats on hitch ball # 63847 measure 1.82 inches from one to the other which is a hair over 1-13/16 inches. The nut from flat to flat is 1.45 inches (slightly more than 1-7/16 inches) or from point to point 1.67 inches (slightly less than 1-11/16 inches).

  • Best Weight Distribution System for I-Beam Trailers with GTW up to 20,000 Lbs
In order to choose the correct weight distribution system, you will need to find the total tongue weight (TTW) of your towing setup by adding the tongue weight (TW) of both your loaded ready to tow trailer and any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. The average TW rating of a trailer is typically 10-15% of the gross trailer weight (GTW). An easy way to find this would involve using a tongue weight scale like the Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale part # 5780. When...

  • Difference Between Brophy # BM20 and # BH20 Ball Mounts
The Brophy Ball Mount # BM20 and the Brophy # BH20 referenced in your question are extremely similar to each other. They are both designed for 2 inch trailer hitch receivers, have a 10,000 pound towing weight capacity, feature a long, 13-1/4 inch shank and will give you either a 3/4 inch rise or a 2 inch drop. The primary difference between the two units is the ball hole diameter. The # BH20 has a 1-1/4 inch ball hole diameter, which will be compatible with a hitch ball with this same...

It is absolutely safe and legal to use a ball mount turned over to make a rise in the hitch height. For a 6 inch rise, I recommend using the Curt Ball Mount - 6" Rise, 8" Drop - 11-1/2" Long - 5,000 lbs # C45090. The weld is secure using a rise or drop. You simply need to reverse the hitch ball. For a 2 inch hitch ball, I recommend # 63845 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 63847. If you are looking for more versatility in options, I recommend and adjustable ball mount like the MaxxTow...

I've added a link to a video of this hitch being installed on a '16 X5 for you to take a look at. The recommended ball mount for your vehicle is # C45030; for a hitch ball you would need # 63845 for a 2" ball or # 63847 for a 2-5/16" ball. You would also need pin and clip # C21500. Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75699 for your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is rated for 5,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 500 pounds tongue weight so as far as the hitch goes it can handle a trailer up to that capacity. When used with weight distribution the hitch is rated for 750 pounds tongue weight and 7,500 pounds gross trailer weight but on a rental trailer you most likely won't use weight distribution. Curt hitch # C13182 is rated for 600 pounds tongue weight and 6,000 pounds...

Both options feature the same 7,500 pound towing weight capacity. Just keep in mind that the hitch ball does come pre-torqued from the factory with the unit in the drop position.
