Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - 19256 Review

Today we're going to review part number 19256. This is the Tow Ready 1 5/8" diameter chrome hitch ball with the short shank and a 2000 eight capacity. This trailer hitch ball has a nice chrome plating to help corrosion resistance. The pad of it is a w 7/8" diameter head and if you notice on the very top it is labeled 1 7/8ths and it also shows the weight capacity which is 2000 pounds. Does come with the wrench flats you can see which are the flat spots right here which allows you to put a wrench on it so when you go to torque this down to your ball mount it will hold your ball into place. It does include the nut and the lock washer.

Just to give you a few dimensions on this, the shank length is going to be right at 1 9/16th, the shank diameter is going to be right at 3/4" and it is designed to fit on a ball mount thickness of 3/8" to 5/8". That should do it for the review of part number 19256, the Tow Ready 1 7/8" diameter chrome hitch ball with the short shank and a 2000 pound weight capacity. .

Okay so instillation was quite simple once I got the wires ran. So I had to remove the rear bumper for instillation of the wires. In the video it made it seem that it would be a quick instillation. 4-5 hours I spent intotal to install. It was about 3 hours with removal of the rear cover. It was so much easier taking off the bumper then trying to feed it like they showed. 421021

Ordered a ball hitch, hitch cover, draw bar, and hitch pin for a 1 1/4" receiver so I can use a utility trailer to haul my 7' dingy down to the shore. We have a hybrid vehicle so hauling is not recommended but the distance is less than a mile and the total weight is less than 300 lbs. I shopped in vain to find the right size for our receiver but then I found etrailer. Couldn't be more pleased with the prices, communication and delivery! 5 stars absolutely. 744968

I was very suspicious how will it fit and suit Dodge Challenger. But when I received trailer hitch, and by they way it travelled across the planet to reach me, I was totally impressed with the quality, ease of installation and accessories which I ordered with it. I basically installed it myself with a help of a friend, it took about 30 minutes to fix it. It really saved me as I needed the trailer to transport my bike to the race track and I didn't want to change the car. So the conclusion, I own it for more than a year and have zero issues or complaints about the hitch or accessories. I used to travel long and short distances and in average I use it every second week. You barely can notice it when you remove drawbar so it is very good solution. 680523

I purchased a hitch, ball mount, ball and wiring for my Frontier. I thought your people were very pleasant. professional and helpful. I did have an issue with power to my lights but after watching one of your video instructions, I realized that I needed to purchase some additional in cab wiring that was shipped promptly. Just installed it and everything works perfectly. By buying your products and doing it myself, I saved about $150. Nice! Thanks 681342

So far so good. Very fine quality. The hitch installed even easier than expected. Did it myself after viewing installation video. which was extremely helpful.. Had all the tool ready. Then had to order tow bar because i went to a local retail for a tow bar to fit 1-1/4 in hitch. Even though i purchased a [different brand]1-1/4, it didnt fit until I destroyed it by grinding it. Susan at etrailer set me straight with a proper tow bar. 658391

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Hitch Ball

  • Torque Specs for 1-7/8-Inch Hitch Balls with 3/4-Inch and 1-Inch Shanks
The correct torque value for the nut on a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball depends on the diameter of the shank. Draw-Tite, who makes # 19256 and # 19260 lists the following torque specs: "During hitch ball installation, torque all 3/4" shank diameter balls to 160 ft. lbs, 1" shank diameter balls to 250 ft. lbs., and 1-1/4" shank diameter balls to 450 ft. lbs."

  • Is There Difference Between 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch Ball
The two sizes you mentioned are different balls. The larger size typically has higher capacities and fits couplers that are designed for it's size. The 2 inch size is typically seen in lighter duty applications. You have to match the correct size hitch ball with what the coupler is designed to fit. I attached a link to a page that has all of the hitch balls we carry as well.

  • Availability of 1-7/8 Inch Trailer Ball w/ 1 Inch Diameter Shank
The shank diameter of the trailer ball needs to match the hole diameter of your ball mount, which can be accomplished a few different ways. You could use a ball with a 3/4 inch shank like # 19256 as long as you used a reducer bushing like part # C21100. Another option would be to use a 1-7/8 inch ball with a 1 inch diameter shank like part # 19260. What might be the best option would be to use an interchangeable ball system like the Convert-A-Ball # 903B. This system includes a 1 inch...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for Towing Small Trailer with 2017 Kia Forte
A small trailer to move your scooter with your 2017 Kia Forte is the best option. A 700 lb trailer is well below the capacities of the Draw Tite hitch part # 24903 that fits your vehicle. You'll also need a ball mount part # 3594 and a hitch ball # 19256. For trailer wiring you'd then want the part # 118594.

  • How to Determine if Unmarked Trailer Coupler is for 2 inch or 1-7/8 inch Hitch Ball
If you have access to a 2 inch ball you should try fitting that into the coupler and see if it will latch on to it. That will be the best indicator. Based on what you said though it sounds like you have a 1-7/8 inch ball coupler as it fits into the coupler and only has a little bit of play.

  • Correct Hitch Ball for Class II Hitch on 2007 Subaru Forester
You will need a trailer ball (the size of the ball will depend on the coupler size of the trailer you are wanting to tow) with a shank diameter of 3/4 inch. • How Tight Should Trailer Coupler Be on Hitch Ball
A little bit of play is acceptable, the coupler should be tight enough that the coupler won't come off the ball, but not so tight you can't close the latch. I typically tighten the coupler up until I feel a slight resistance when closing the coupler latch, then I'll back it off slightly from there. Reese sells a white lithium grease that's conveniently packaged for use on hitch balls, part # 58117.

  • How to Determine Towing Capacity of 2014 Dodge Ram 1500
Your owners manual is giving you two capacities with differences depending on how the truck is equipped. Your safest option would be to check with a Ram dealer to see what they recommend. Or you can use the GCWR in the door jamb. It's not always evident what a truck's max capacity is, even by reading the owner's manual, but if you look at the ratings sticker on the driver's side door jamb, you can get an accurate statement of the truck's towing abilities. On the sticker, look for the...

  • How to Pick Out Ball Mount for Truck Towing Small Trailer
I attached an FAQ that details how to pick out the correct ball mount. Picking out the correct ball mount will allow your trailer to sit as level as possible. Basically you will first measure the height from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the hitch while on level ground. Next, you will measure the coupler height from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler when the trailer is on level ground. Next, you will need to compute the difference. If the hitch height...

  • Can a Class II Ball be Used in a Class I Ball Mount
Yes, if a ball is labeled as a Class II it can still fit a Class I ball mount. All that matters is that the shank on the ball is the right size for the ball mount's mounting hole. Ball # 19256 for example has a 3/4 inch diameter shank so it fits any ball mount with a 3/4 inch ball hole which is many Class I and II ball mounts. Please note that no matter what you always go by the lowest rated component in the system. So if the ball mount is rated for 2,000 pounds, the hitch for 3,000...

Instead it's just an open shank which would be slightly less visible. For trailer wiring you'd then want the part # 118487 which is a confirmed fit.
