Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - C40030 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number C40030. This is the Kirt 00:04 trailer hitch ball with the 2 and 5/16th inch diameter. That's going to be the diameter of the actual ball. When it comes to the diameter of the shank, we take a measurement of that. That's going to give us a diameter of an inch and a 1/4. Then that shank length, measuring from the bottom of the platform from the end of the threads is going to give us a measurement of 2 and 5/8ths of an inch. Now keep in mind that the shank diameter and for this particular ball is and inch and a 1/4, that needs to be within 1/16th inch of the ball diameter on your ball mount. This is designed to fed draw bar thicknesses from 3/4 of an inch to 1 inch thick.

This hitch ball's going to have the capacity of 15,000 lbs. It's a nice solid steel construction with a nice chrome finish that's going to last a long time. It's going to stand up well against rusting and corrosion . It's going to feature the wrench flats here on the side. That's going to allow for an easier installation.

It's going allow you to achieve the appropriate torque rating and making that easier. That is going to come with this tag. The tag's going to be installed on the shank here through the holes here on the piece of paper. The tag's going to have all the information on it that you need back here with the instructions. Such as the torque rating and all the restrictions you have when installing the hitch ball. When installing this on your ball mount, you do want make sure to completely remove the tag. Now with this part number you're going to get the 2 and 5/16th inch hitch ball, you're going to get the lock washer and the nut.

All of that's included. Really simple operation. This portion here is the shank. This is going to go through the ball hole on your ball mount. Place that through and then you place the lock washer on. Followed by the nut.

Then you'll need to get it tightened down. Then the last thing you'll need to do is you're going to torque to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. Again that can be found on that instructional tag that I showed you. That's going to do it for out review. Part number C40030. This is the Kirt 02:10 trailer hitch ball with the 2 and 5/16ths diameter. .

It's a ball... But a nice one. Want real reviews? Ask me in three months what I think. Not the day after I got it... Service from eTrailer was aok. Fortunately UPS lets us upgrade shipping from USPS delivery to UPS straight through. The ball appears to have heavy chrome. That will be a plus! 140536

I own a 31ft Cabin Cruiser boat that weighs around 10,000lbs and the trailer itself weighs over 2000lbs. Every time I would pull the boat out of the water the back of my truck would squat a little and the trailer jack would occasionally scrape the ground. So I purchased this Hitch Ball and mounted it upside down so that the ball is higher than the bumper of the truck and now the trailer is level when cruising down the interstate fully loaded. This Hitch ball is very heavy and completlely solid! I dont hear any noises coming from the hitch at all. Etrailer had the best price around and will always contine shopping with them anytime I need any trailer parts 737420

The Reese weight distribution hitch would likely work fine for a trailer somewhere between 20-28 feet. Been towing for years, and find it does distribute the weight nicely onto the truck. However, with a long trailer (I am towing a 36 foot Rockwood with the weight of 3 large slides), you're going to have highway speed sway every time. There is just no two ways about this. Dialing it in precisely, new shocks, new tires, new truck - 3/4 ton to a one ton, is not going to fix it. The passing semi trucks will get you side to side if traveling at 50 mph or more, and it is uncontrollable at times. If you go with this hitch, you will be avoiding highways like the plague, trying to make sure you don't lose your trailer and more. Just spend the extra money and get a Hensley or Pro Pride hitch. They are the only hitches that work for weight distribution AND sway elimination on long trailers. If those are too pricey, seriously think twice about purchasing a long trailer - you will never have the same issues with a fifth wheel. 732671

  • Weight Distribution System that Allows For Bracket Placement 35 Inches Behind Hitch Ball
The Curt Weight Distribution systems part # C17052 and C17002 brackets fit frames that are 2-3/4" wide so you will not have an issue with the brackets fitting your frame. Curt does not specify bracket placement for MV weight distribution systems however, the bars measure 30-5/8" long. The two Curt systems you mention also have a tongue weight range of 800 lbs-1,000 lbs which is very overrated for your setup with a 450 lb tongue weight. An overrated weight distribution system can cause a...

  • Husky Spring Bars Compatibility with Trailer Hitch Weight of 476 lbs
The Replacement Spring Bar for Husky Towing Round Bar Weight Distribution Hitches - Qty 1 # HT31521 are designed for trailers with a total tongue weight (loaded trailer tongue weight along with any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle) between 801 and 1200 lbs. These bars will be far too strong for your trailer and could cause a rough ride and even some wheel bounce. I definitely do not recommend them for your trailer. My recommendation is to use a system more suited for...

I did some research and your F-150 with the combination you have is the 11,600 lbs if you have the max towing package. If you do not it drops to 10,600 lbs. The upgrades you have done to your truck are really nice so I can see why you don't want to change vehicles. What I recommend is keeping your current hitch, upgrading your weight distribution system to the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 14K GTW, 1.4K TW # RP66561 because it will work...

  • Which Weight Distribution System is This
The head in your picture looks to me like it's a Reese or Pro Series system. It looks like part # RP58112 and you can even see the numbered washer to use for adjusting. This head works with a Reese system. With that being said the bars do look like Curt bars and certainly don't appear to be the correct ones for that head even if they aren't. Can you send me a picture of the brackets on the trailer? If they are Curt bars and brackets you likely need part # C17075 for the head and...

  • Best Weight Distribution With Sway Control for Trailer With 1,100 lbs Total Tongue Weight
The BlueOx SwayPro # BXW1506 is a good system but I recommend the Reese Strait-Line # RP66130 over it. While both systems will be less noisy than the Equal-i-zer you referred to, the Strait-Line has the advantage because of its sway control system. The SwayPro uses a 4-point sway control system like the Equal-i-zer but the Strait-Line uses a dual cam system to prevent sway. This system's spring bars are suspended by this cam system (see accompanying photo) which ensures that the Strait-Line...

In order to choose the correct weight distribution system for your 2014 Airstream International and your 2016 Ford F-250 we will need to find your total tongue weight (TTW). Total tongue weight is calculated by adding the loaded ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer to any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. The Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17051 may be a great choice for your 2019 Crossroads ZR18RK but it will depend on a couple factors. In order to choose the best weight distribution system you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. I completely understand your confusion, as pinpointing a truck's actual towing capacity proves time and time again to be one of the more frustrating experiences for our customers. As you alluded to in your question, you are going to be restricted by your weakest link so if your hitch is rated for less than the truck, you have to adhere to the hitch's limits. I wasn't able to verify the factory trailer hitch capacity on your F-150 but there should hopefully be a sticker right on the...

There is a 2-5/16" hitch ball that with a capacity of 13,000 or 14,000 lbs, though you do need to make sure the hitch ball will fit your ball mount. This means the ball needs to have a shank that has a diameter as well as length to properly secure to your ball mount. Additionally, keep in mind a hitch ball with a larger capacity will not mean you can tow more if your hitch and/or vehicle is not rated for 13,000 or 14,000 lbs. The most common shank diameter is 1-1/4" and for that I recommend...
