Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - A-80 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number A dash eight zero. This is the Curt one and seven eighth inch hitch ball. It's made from a stainless steel construction. You can see here that it's going to include your nut and lock washer. It's got the wrench flats here on the side. That way you can get a wrench on there and get everything tightened down and installed according to the instructions, or the manufacturer's specifications. The shank diameter on this unit, is going to measure three quarters of an inch. Take a measurement of the shank length, from the bottom of the platform to the end of the threaded portion, it's going to be about two and one eighth of an inch. This unit is designed to fit draw bar thicknesses from three eighths of an inch, to seven eighths of an inch thick.

It's going to have a capacity of two thousand pounds. A few other measurements, real quick, that we'll go over, starting with the overall length. It's going to be about four and three quarters of an inch. And then measuring from the bottom of the platform to the top of the hitch ball, that looks like it's going to give us a measurement of about two and five eighths of an inch. Now when installing this, you're going to place this through the ball hole. Then you'd place on your lock washer, which is going to go on the under side of the draw bar, or that platform area. Then you'd place on your nut.

When tightening this down, you need to make sure you get it tightened to one hundred and sixty foot-pounds of torque. Failure to do so could result in hitch ball failure. That weight capacity, or that hundred and sixty foot-pound torque rating can be found in the specifications listed by the manufacturer that come with this product. That's going to do it for today's review of part number A dash eight zero. This is the Curt one and seven eighth inch hitch ball.

I keep this ball in the trunk of my car next to the spare tire when not in use. It has not corroded at all and looks brand new after 1 year. Mounting the ball is a cinch and only requires an adjustable wrench. No problems with the product so far. 464610

I got a Curt trailer hitch for my 2013 Civic Si. The product was delivered really fast and with everything as promised. The guys from etrailer included detailed step-by-step instructions for installation for my vehicle. I was able to install it by myself with one more person helping out. Very happy with my purchase. 442954

A good product! This is the second hitch I have installed using etrailer and it went as well as the first. Not being a super skilled Tech it took longer than expected, but for me it was a project that needed to be done, and I enjoy a good project when it comes together, no matter if it took a little longer due to an average person's tool inventory and simple jack stands and floor jacks. The instruction videos are the best I have seen as of yet. If you enjoy working with your hands, I recommend etrailer products! 414514

Over priced. Found for $14 at local RV parts store. Good otherwise. It's a big piece of metal, what could go wrong. Unless you know what size you'll need get the 3500lb ball, more likely to be what you need. 286026

Both the wiring harness and hitch receiver were very easy to put on. The hardest part was separating the wiring clips from the rear lights to put the new adapter in. You have to be kind of physical with it to get it apart. Then the new ones just snapped right in. 20 minute job. The hitch receiver went right on in the pre-drilled/threaded holes in the chassis. This was on a 2006 Toyota Corolla S. 175544

Do you have a question about this Hitch Ball?

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2016 Toyota Corolla
  • When it comes to whether or not a vehicle can tow a trailer you have to follow either what the owners manual states or what Toyota says. In your case you have the owners manual saying one thing and a Toyota dealer saying another. You might try contacting another dealer, but if they told you that your vehicle is okay to tow then they are saying the warranty of your vehicle would still be good through them if you were to tow a trailer and have any issues in the future. The Curt Hitch part...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2010 VW GTI MK6
  • For your 2010 VW GTI, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11000. This is a system rated for 2000 lbs max and 200 lbs tongue weight max, so you will want to make sure your trailer doesn't exceed that and that your towing capacity in your owners manual allows for that. The manufacturer specs trump the hitch ratings, so you will go off that capacity if it is less than the hitch is rated for. For a ball mount, I recommend the Curt Class II Drawbar...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2013 Audi A4 Allroad
  • The Curt # C11195 is indeed compatible with your 2013 A4 Allroad. The only modification necessary would be a small hole trimmed in the muffler heat shield, as mentioned in the installation instructions which I've linked. The instructions also mention that on single exhaust-equipped models, there's a plastic underbody panel on the passenger side frame rail that needs to be removed. These modifications are on the underside of the vehicle, and wouldn't be visible from behind. If you'll...

  • What Size Hitch Ball Will Fit my 2002 Chevrolet S-10 Bumper Ball Hole
  • In order to make a proper selection for a hitch ball, you will need to find out what diameter size ball your trailer needs. It should be stamped on the trailer coupler or frame, either 1-7/8 or 2 inch. All bumper ball holes are 3/4 of an inch, so you will need to pick a ball with a 3/4 inch shank diameter. The ball you were looking at, part # A-82, is a 3/4 inch shank diameter and is a 2 inch diameter ball. If you need a 1-7/8 inch ball, you would use part # A-80. Those are our only...

  • If you click the provided link, you can see a copy of the installation instructions for the Curt Class I hitch, part # C11367. The installation procedure is pretty extensive. It involves removing the taillights, the rear bumper cover and the rear bumper beam. The hitch is sandwiched between the bumper beam and the vehicle. It is a fairly complicated installation, but the good news is that the only portion of the hitch that will be visible once it's installed is the receiver tube, as you...

  • How to Carry a Dirt Bike Using a 2016 Subaru Outback
  • The best advice I can give you right now is to NOT use the Subaru hitch. The problem with it is that the hitch pin hole is dangerously close to the receiver opening meaning that on nearly all accessories there won't be enough of the shank in the hitch. The use of an adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent so I also do not recommend that for your 2016 Subaru Outback. The other issue is the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle itself. According to the...
