Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - A-6 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Part Number A-6, this is the CURT two and five-sixteenth inch trailer hitch ball. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. This hitch ball is going to give us a shank diameter of an inch and a quarter, it's going to give us a shank length measuring from the bottom of the platform to the end of the threads of two and five-eighths of an inch. This is designed to fit draw bar thicknesses of a half inch to one inch thick. The hitch ball is going to offer a capacity of ten thousand pounds. It's made from a solid steel construction with a nice chrome finish on it, so it is going to stand up really well against rusting and corrosion. Here on the sides of the platform, it's going to have the flats, these are just your wench flats, makes for an easier installation, you can get your wrench around there for a nice, adequate grip.

Really going to come in handy when you need to torque this down. The hitch ball will need to be torqued to specifications listed by the manufacturer. You can find all that information on the tag that's going to come attached to the trailer hitch ball. You just want to make sure that you remove this tag before your installation. Really simple installation though. The hitch ball is going to go straight through that opening on your ball mount.

You're going to place on the lock washer as well as the nut, and then you're going to get everything tightened down, and again once you get it hand tight, or once you get it tight with a wrench, you will need to go ahead and torque it down to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. It looks like for this particular mount, it says to tighten the trailer ball to four hundred and fifty foot pounds of torque. That's going to do it for our review of Part Number A-6, this is the CURT two and five-sixteenth inch trailer hitch ball. .

Do you have a question about this Hitch Ball?

  • Recommended WD System and Transmission Cooler for Towing with a 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE
  • I am glad that you have decided to use a Weight Distribution (WD) system. We always recommend going with one when your trailer weighs at least half of the weight of the tow vehicle, in your case a 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE. When looking at a WD system you will want to choose one with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go...

  • Choosing Correct Curt Weight Distribution System for Trailer with GVWR of 6,243 Pounds
  • You upgraded your weight distribution from the Curt short-arm system, part # C17322, to the Curt TruTrack, part # C17500, which is much better system but it's still rated too high most likely. It all depends on the loaded trailer's tongue weight. Both of those systems are rated for 800 to 1,000 pounds of tongue weight. So you want the tongue weight of your loaded trailer added to the amount of weight you add behind the rear axle of your two vehicle to be between 800 and 1,000 pounds....

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Trailer with GVWR of 5,200 Pounds
  • You are correct that a weight distribution system that is rated too high for what you need can cause a rough ride for you. On the other hand if it's rated too low it won't be able to do its job. If your trailer is fully loaded you'll likely have a loaded and ready to tow tongue weight between 500 and 600 pounds. You also need to add in the amount of weight behind the rear axle of your 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. With that being said you're probably looking for a system rated in the...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch or Electric Sway Control for 2019 Coachman Apex Nano 185BH
  • For your 2019 Coachman Apex Nano 185BH, you don't need to use a weight distribution system but it may still be beneficial not only for sway control but also for the lift to reduce rear truck sag when towing. My recommendation is the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution with Sway Control # RP66073 because the dual cams and rolled trunnion bars will keep that light trailer tracking correctly behind your Titan XD. The bars will be required for that sway control which is the bigger issue...

  • Choosing Correct Weight Distribution Hitch for 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Towing Travel Trailer
  • Trailer weight distribution hitches (WDH) such as the Curt TruTrack systems # C17499 and # C17500 do come in varying weight capacities. Selection of the correct one for any given towing setup is based on the actual fully-loaded tongue weight (TW). It is true that using a system rated for much more than your actual TW will cause poor ride quality. In the case of a WDH more is not necessarily better. All you need to do to select the right setup is measure your fully-loaded trailer's actual...

  • For your 2014 Acura MDX, I recommend starting with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13146, which is an easy bolt on installation. Then for 4-way wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118628 which plugs into your Acura MDX's junction box, which is located in your rear cargo area, behind the driver's-side trim panel in the spare tire compartment. Once connected, insert the fuse in the junction box. I've attached a video to assist. Then...

  • We do have hitch balls that are compatible with the Draw-Tite Drawbar # 3593 that you are looking at. The 3/4" ball hole diameter on the drawbar needs to match the shank diameter of the hitch ball that you choose. The 2-5/16" Curt Hitch Ball # A-6 that you referenced is for heavier towing applications and has a shank diameter of 1-1/4" so the shank is too large for the Draw-Tite drawbar. We recommend going with the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # 19256 or with the part # 19258 which is a 2"...

  • While I can sympathize with your issue, it is not safe to tow a trailer if you only have a 2" hitch ball and your trailer coupler is designed for a 2-5/16" hitch ball, even for a short distance; the insecure connection between hitch ball and coupler would pose a danger to others because of the risk of the trailer becoming uncoupled from the tow vehicle. The correct 2-5/16" hitch ball will depend on the shank diameter you need as well as capacity. Your ball mount will have a hole where...

  • Curt Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 600 lbs Tongue Weight
  • For a tongue weight of 600 lbs the Curt WD System part # C17341 would be a better option. This system has a tongue weight max of 800 lbs so it would be a better fitting system. For a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball you would then want the part # A-6. The part # C17322 would technically work, but since it is rated a bit too high you would end up with a harsher ride quality than the # C17341. Both systems will allow backing up. You could weld on a 1/2 inch spacer to your trailer and the frame...

  • We have the perfect product for you, but it's not a suspension enhancement system as they are more ideal for vehicles that are carrying weight in the cargo area of the vehicle.
