Video Transcript for Tow Ready Hitch Adapter Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the hitch adapter, 1 1/4" to 2". Part Number 80304. This hitch adapter is going to easily convert your 1 1/4" receiver to a 2" receiver, allowing you to use your 2" accessories. We're using our cargo carrier with our adapter here, but this would also be great for bike racks or any other 2" accessories. This is much more economical than having two bike racks or two cargo carriers for multiple vehicles and it's a lot less expensive than having to buy a different hitch. Please keep in mind this is going to cut you ton weight capacity in half, and it's not to be used for towing so no ball mounts. The distance between our two pin holes in ten inches, so you're going to get a good extension out of this adapter as well, especially if you have any spare tires or any other obstructions.

Pinning clips are not included so you'll need to pick some up here at etrailer.com. Here on the adapter end, we're using a 5/8" pin and clip. That's going to be part number PC3. Here on the receiver end, we've got a PC2 which is going to be a 1/2" pin and clip. The whole hitch adapter's made out of sturdy steel construction, so it's going to stand up to the test of time. It's an extraordinary 00:01:02 easy installation.

We've got our hitch adapter plugged into our 1 1/4" receiver and we've got our accessory plugged into our 2" receiver here at the end of the adapter. That's going to complete our look at the hitch adapter, 1 1/4" to 2". Part number 80304.

This works great. I tried it the day it arrived, and the fit is perfect, as advertised. It revived an old (and expensive) bike rack-and super customer service and help. Thanks to Cailee, as she caught my error on the lock order to secure the adapter to the hitch. I didn't need two locks, only one. Nice not to be oversold. 693657

What can I possibly say about a chunk of steel, that just sits there on my UTV hitch, quietly doing exactly what it was built to do? Very pleased! 441845

Great product, excellent service..... 201105

Your adaptor allows the rack to move around to much....it shakes, rattles , and rolls......too loose, but functional.

Here is my setup using the items from my two orders, including the two ant-rattle devices. The pictures aren't that great of quality, since I just used my cell phone (my only camera anymore). Everything works perfectly. 10377

Ask the Experts about this Tow Ready Hitch Adapters

  • A 1-1/4 Inch to 2 Inch Adapter Will Not Fit on a Class I Trailer Hitch
A Class I trailer hitch has a little tab pressed into the receiver behind the hitch pin hole. This is so that an accessory designed for a Class II hitch cannot be installed. The reason for this is safety. A Class I hitch can easily be overloaded and the tab prevents items that should not be used from being used. I have included a link to an FAQ article on the hitch Classes for you. A Class I trailer hitch can only carry 2 bikes maximum. The reason for this is the hitch is not designed...

  • 1-1/4 Inch to 2 Inch Adapter to Carry Load Extender and Ladder on a 2005 Kia Rio
You would need adapter # HTAD since all of the trailer hitches for the 2005 Kia Rio are Class I trailer hitches. The use of an adapter or extender reduces the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. So if you installed Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24727 with a 200 pound tongue weight but then used the adapter, the 200 pound capacity would be reduced to 100 pounds. The combined weight of the load extender and anything on it would have to be less than 100 pounds.

  • How to Fit a Bike Rack for a 2 inch Hitch Receiver on My 2013 Land Rover LR2 with a 1-1/4 inch Hitch
The 10 inch hitch adapter # 80304 will give you a 2 inch receiver and about 3-1/2 inches from the center of the pin hole to the edge of the 2 inch tube. using the locations you measured and taking into the account of the weld it will be about 3 inches of space. This is a 10 inch adapter so it's going to be an extension that is not really necessary. Also, whenever using an adapter you're going to cut your maximum tongue weight in half as well as get more movement and vibration from...

At this time we do not have a dimensional drawing of the Hitch Adapter, 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch - 10 inches Long. I went out to the warehouse and made some measurements for you though and they are as follows. Overall Length 14-5/8 inches Overall Width 2-7/8 inches square (at end of 2 inch receiver opening) Inside Dimension 2 inches square Outside dimension 2-1/2 inches square 1-1/4 inch square shank length 4-3/4 inches (not Hollow, solid) Center of hitch pin hole to end of 1-1/4 inch...

  • What Size Trailer Hitch is Available For 2012 Honda Accord
None of the hitch manufacturers will make a 2-inch hitch receiver for a 2012 Honda Accord. Most of the 2012 Honda Accords will only have a towing capacity of 1,000 lbs so the vehicle would not be able to use a Class III 2-inch hitch. The frame attachment points on the Accord are not strong enough to withstand the increased weight capacity that a Class III hitch can handle, therefore the manufacturers do not offer them. The hitches that are available for your 2012 Honda Accord will be...

  • Recommendation for a 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch to a 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Adapter
To go from a 1-1/4 receiver to a 2 inch opening, you will need an adapter like the 80304 (for Class II hitches only) like you have referenced or the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver, # HTAD (for Class I or II trailer hitches). I have included a video review of this adapter below. However, the use of an adapter will reduce your trailer hitch tongue weight capacity by 50 percent. Make sure you know the tongue weight capacity of your hitch, divide by 2, and do not...

  • Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendation for 2015 Nissan Altima
If you are under the tongue weight capacity of the hitch you are good. So for your 2015 Nissan Altima we have the Draw Tite hitch part # 24796 which has a 200 lb tongue weight capacity like you mentioned. Now any time you use a hitch adapter to go from 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch you cut the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent so that would not work in your case. So the only option we have would probably not be an ideal one. The part # C18110 fits your hitch size and has enough capacity...

  • Can a 1-1/4 to 2 Inch Hitch Adapter be Used with a 2011 Volkswagen Golf to Tow 2100 Pound Trailer
The adapter # 80304 is rated for use with Class II trailer hitches but all of the hitches for the 2011 Volkswagen Golf are Class I hitches so the adapter physically will not fit. But you can use # HTAD with a Class I trailer hitch. This adapter can handle the gross trailer weight of 2,100 pounds. It has a tongue weight capacity of 300 pounds but the use of any adapter reduces the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. This is another issue because while the adapter...

  • How Much Clearance do I Need to Put a Folding Bike Rack On my 1995 Jeep Wrangler
In order to determine how much distance you would need to be able to fit a folding bike or cargo rack on the back of your Wrangler you would need to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole on your receiver hitch to the furthest point of your spare tire. That distance would be how much distance you would need for clearance to install a folding bike or cargo rack on your 1995 Jeep Wrangler. If you email me back with that measurement I could come up with a folding bike...

  • Availability Of An Anti-Rattle Device for Use With A 1-1/4 Inch To 2 Inch Hitch Expander
I would recommend the CURT Trailer Hitch Anti-Rattle Kit # F-315. This anti-rattle bracket works on a 1-1/4 inch hitch and when tightened down helps to eliminate the noise and vibration of a hitch accessory inside the trailer hitch. I do not have a hitch expander that has a hollow shank that will fit in a 1-1/4 inch hitch. Also, remember when using a hitch expander it will reduce your trailer hitch tongue weight capacity by 50 percent.

  • Hitch-Mount Trike Carrier for 1-1/4-Inch Class II Hitch
I understand your predicament, having a hitch and hitch bike rack that will not work together. Smaller vehicles typically accept smaller hitches, and for your 2018 Ford EcoSport compact SUV only 1-1/4-inch Class II hitches are offered since the car itself cannot handle the load that a 2-inch Class III hitch typically can. We offer 1-1/4-inch Draw-Tite # 36660 and Curt # C12188 hitches both of which are rated for 350-lbs of tongue weight. Hitch adapters like # MT70355, # HTAD, # HT5R,...

The aftermarket hitch offered for your 2000 Cadillac Eldorado, the 1-1/4-inch Curt Class II hitch # C12068, has a total tongue weight (TW) capacity of 350-lbs. If you use any adapter you will lose half of this TW capacity because the actual weight load on the hitch will be further from the hitch tube. This greater distance translates into move leverage applied to the hitch tube and this is what causes the loss of capacity. Using any adapter means the hitch TW rating drops to 175-lbs. Hitch...

  • Which Hitch Adapter to Carry Bike Rack for 2 Inch Receiver on 2011 Chevy Malibu with Class II Hitch
The closest item we offer to the parameters you mentioned would be the Hidden Hitch 1-1/4 to 2 inch Hitch Adapter, part # 80304. The 1-1/4 inch portion of the adapter is 5 inches long. The distance from the hitch pin hole in the 1-1/4 shank and the hitch pin hole in the 2 inch receiver is 10 inches.
