Note: This adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only. Do not use to tow a trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.

Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

The only thing I have changed is to have an additional receiver welded on top to carry a bike rack. The drop was perfect to tow my 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT

I have to give it a 5 star being it's pretty simple. The front of my truck is 7" higher than my RV hitch. Truck with my golf cart in the back put me at just over 5000lbs that's why I jumped to the 10,000lb. A massive well built extremely strong looking adapter. The reason I went with a well known name brand is because pulling a pickup truck you have to much at risk and I wanted to be sure this was not going to be the weak link. I'm sure I could drive off a 500' cliff and when the wreckage is cleaned up someone can still use this adapter. It is quiet heavy but so is all the towing parts.

The product solved my problem by lowering the attach height on my motorhome making it level with that on the vehicle being towed.

Comments
I feel that the design limit for the torque this attachment imparts on the motorhome trailer hitch exceeds the design limit of the motorhome hitch. A few hard stops seem to have bent the motorhome hitch a little. I am towing a 4k lb vehicle with a 2015 Winnebago Vista.
Walter - 05/21/2017

Thanks for the feedback. It is always that the lowest rated component of the towing system be the determining factor for any towing situation. I looked on-line and it looks like your 2015 Winnebago Vista could have been equipped with a hitch rated for up to 5K from the factory. Please confirm that the hitch is rated appropriately for the vehicle you are towing. Additionally a supplemental braking system like the Roadmaster Even Brake # RM-9400 is recommended. If you do have a braking system it may need some adjustments for more effective braking of your toad. I have also included a link to one of our help articles that explains all the individual components of a flat towing system for your reference.

Just used it this past weekend for first time. It worked great! No problems whatsoever. Drove three hours to the destination and three hours back. Definitely will continue to use. I needed a hitch that was leveled with my tow bars and this was perfect. I would highly recommend etrailer for their excellent products.

This has worked well. Seems well built\sturdy. I needed it to match the bumper height of my lifted Jeep tow bar to my truck hitch. My truck hitch with my camper on was too low. The Jeep came up over the towbar and rear ended my camper after braking for a dip. This hitch makes the truck hitch the same height as the Jeep tow bar connection

I use this product as a means of lowering my motorcycle rack on the rear of my Class A motor home, thereby making the bike somewhat easier to get off the rack. So far I have no complaints or criticisms, the 8" hi-lo adaptor does precisely what I wanted it to do.

Comments
Be aware that using an extender like the # RM-048-8 will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. Because the load has been moved further away from the receiver, more leverage is being applied to the hitch.

Great selection of hitch adapters. Just what I needed to lower a dirt bike carrier on a lifted truck. Shipping was fast and free.

Be aware that the adapter has a 400 lb tongue weight capacity. This means that the dirt bike and the carriers combined weight cannot exceed 400 lbs.

Great quick service right on time as etrailer said it would arrive. Incredibly strong construction I am sure this adapter will not break like my previous one from another company. Finish is excellent not surel it is power costed or painted but it looks very durable and a nice glossy black. I am using it for a 60”x35” aluminum cart that I carry items on, hay bales, deer, furniture etc. this is with my truck. Very pleased! Recommend highly. Oh, and the 8” rise or drop is great. I use it as a rise for more ground clearance for my cart

I uploaded two photos one with a 4 inch drop then when the 8 inch drop showed up and love much it leveled out my toad. The shank that goes into the receiver is a solid metal bar not a hollow one I removed. The drop is very well made and it puts my toad into the safe zone for towing.

Just what I needed - Bought a gently used Blue-Ox tow-bar to pull a recently acquired 1998 Honda Honda CRV with my 2005 Jayco Grayhawk. After installing the CRV baseplate (purchased from etrailer, another great buy, installed myself in about 45 minutes) the vertical alignment of the base plate connections and the RV's receiver hitch was 9-inches off. I found this hitch adapter, it arrived within a few days of ordering even when I ordered it less than a week before Christmas. A test tow around the neighborhood proved all worked and aligned great. etrailer team followed up, provided info on shipping status, all-in-all an excellent transaction.

  • High/Low Hitch Adapter to Keep Nighthawk Tow Bar RM-677 Level for Best Operation
Roadmaster does specify the 3-inch safe zone for tow bar height differences at the motorhome and toad ends. Really any tow bar will perform better when it is level since there will be less arm tube friction. A level tow bar will also endure less mechanical stress and it will put less stress on the base plates, the towed vehicle's frame and its suspension. Since you have invested in the Nighthawk # RM-677, one of the best tow bars available, I recommend you protect your investment...

  • How to Determine Which High/Low Flat Towing Hitch Adapter Is Needed
So what you'll need to do is determine the receiver height of the motorhome, measure from ground to the center of the hitch pin hole. Then, on the vehicle being towed, measure from the ground to the center of the base plate. If the height of the hitch and the base plate has a difference more than 3 inches, you'll want to use an adapter to bring it within that range. I'll link to an article that explains how to take the measurement, as well as to our selection of high/low adapters.

The only thing to keep in mind is that you will be cutting the hitch weight capacity in half. Please note that the Rocky Mount Backstage is only rated for 60 pounds per-bike....
