Video Transcript for MaxxTow Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter Review

Today we are going to be taking a look at the Max Tow Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter. Inch and a quarter to two inch, 11 inches long. Part number MT70032. This is a much more economical solution than having to buy two bike racks or two cargo carriers, for multiple vehicles. The Max Tow Hitch Adapter easily converts your Class 2 inch and a quarter receiver to a two inch receiver, allowing you to use two inch accessories. Now we are using a cargo carrier with our adapter here today, but it also would be great for bike racks or any other two inch accessories. Now, please keep in mind, it does cut your tongue weight capacity in half and it is not to be used for towing, so no ball mounts.

The distance between the pin holes measure six and a half inches, so you are going to be a bit of an extension, with this adapter as well. Now the pin and clips are not included, so you will need pick some up here at etrailer.com. For our adapter side, we have got a 5/8 pin and clip, and that is going to be part number PC3. For our hitch side we have got a PC2, which is our 1/2 inch pin and clip. It's made out of a sturdy stu construction, with a corrosive resistant black powder coat finish, so it is going to stand up to the elements. Now it is an extraordinarily easy installation.

We have just got our adapter plugged into our receiver, and then our accessory plugged into our adapter. That is going to complete our look at the Max Tow Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter, inch and a quarter to two inches, at 11 inches long. Part number MT70032.

Looks good and study, used in first time this weekend.. Only complaint was the distance from pin to end of 1 1/4" was too long and hit the stop inside the draw tight 24831 hitch (small grinding resolved this). Other than that looked/worked good. 226672

- MT70032

The quality of the product is fine; it's just a welded piece of metal. The only complaint, and it really isn't a fault of the product, is that by using an adapter, you now have two pin joints that are less that tight. This results in quite a bit of wobble if you are using this for a bike rack or something other than pulling a trailer. If you are just pulling a trailer, the extra wobble isn't too be of a deal. Overall though, it did what I was wanting it to do. 94347

I purchased this adapter for the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 bike rack. My Grand Cherokee has a 2" receiver and My wife's Subaru Outback has a 1.25 receiver. The 2" end of the adapter is just the correct depth with an 1/8" to spare for the bike rack and the 1.25" end fits the Subaru nicely. Now I can use the rack on either vehicle. 391880

While it solved the problem of getting a 2" entry for my luggage carrier I find it very long, and from an engineering standpoint I think unnecessarily so. It is very strong but also extremely heavy and this necessitates clamping both the in and out which makes it even more costly! I would like to see a company engineer a shorter and lighter design, with thinner metal plate reinforced by external rings as at the end of this one! Also it should include spacers to fix the "rattle" movements at no charge! 348418

The adapter works, but is long, very heavy, and rattles. Time to next year maybe? install a 2-inch hitch.

The trailer hitch 1 1/2" to 2" receiver adapter inserted snugly into the receiver on my Ford Escape. There was no difficulty in inserting the adapter pin and clip. The adapter allows us to use our bike rack and trailer hitch cargo carrier which were originally purchased for the 2" adapter on our GMC Acadia. It is important not to exceed the load limits recommended by MaxxTow. 215769

The adapter arrived in a short time and is exactly what I need to move my 2 inch hitch on my trailer around with my one and a quarter Hitch on my vehicle. This lets me use one vehicle to move two trailers with different hitches around my driveway. Service from E trailer is excellent And my vendor of choice 559312

Thanks for the feedback after using the Maxx Tow Trailer Receiver Adapter # MT70032
MaxxTow Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter - 1-1/4" (Class II) to 2" Hitch - 11" Long
$23.58
I have checked with my contacts at Maxxtow and this adapter is specifically designed to be used for accessories only. It is not designed or rated for towing applications. When used for accessories please also note that the use of this adapter will decrease the hitch's tongue weight capacity by fifty percent.

It is a hitch adapter. It seems to be well constructed, and has good powder coating. I weights a ton and doesn't really operate. It DOES fit snugly into my receiver, and the cargo carrier fits relatively snugly into the 2" x 2" hole. Does what is needs to do! 105147

I bought this adapter to use with my Class I hitch, even though it is not meant for a Class I and actually won't fit without modification. I am not planning to use this for towing, only for a hitch mount carrier. I had to take my 4" grinder and trim some off the end of this adapter to make it fit since the adapter is really meant for a Class II hitch (pin hole does not line up with Class I hole). You need to keep in mind that adding this adapter divides your tongue capacity in half. So, a Class I hitch normally has 200 lb tongue weight maximum. Adding this adapter reduces the maximum tongue weight to 100 lbs. Something to keep in mind when deciding what 2" accessories you can use. 486588

I have a small car (2004 Ford Focus ZX3) with a 1.25" hitch and receiver. Managed to acquire a sweet bicycle rack with a 2" tongue. What to do? Buy a 1.25" to 2" adaptor and hook everything together, of course. Works exactly as designed - tight fit, excellent finish, and just does exactly what it's supposed to do for very, very little money. 614885

Comments

Please be aware that using an adapter such as this will lower the capacity of your hitch by 50. Most Class I hitches will have a 200 lb tongue weight capacity maximum amount of weight that can safely be suspended from the hitch, using this adapter would lower that to 100 lbs. This would mean that the bikes and rack could weigh no more than 100 lbs in total.

The adapter is a simple piece of hardware but does exactly what it's designed to do. I purchased it to facilitate the use of a Thule bicycle rack - which the seller informed me had a 2" hitch - with my 1.25" trailer hitch. Turned out the seller didn't realize the Thule's 2" hitch was a removable sleeve, concealing the underlying 1.25" hitch. So now I have an adapter I don't need for this application but will hold onto in case I run into a situation that might require it. The adapter will last forever and arrived quickly and well-packaged from eTrailer.com. There's nothing these folks don't carry, at excellent prices and with great service. 600265

This product is exactly as advertised. No issues. I am using it on a Polaris Ace UTV. I have attached an aluminum rack to it for the purpose of transporting game. Mainly deer and wild hogs. It should work perfectly for that purpose. It places the rack high enough to provide sufficient ground clearance. 392513

  • How To Use a 2 Inch Bike Rack On a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen TDI
  • For starters, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Euro Drawbar part # C114122 is not a fit for your 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen TDI. The comparable option we have is Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24866. However, you cannot use a class I 1-1/4" trailer hitch with a 1-1/4" to 2" adapter like part # MT70032 because all of the adapters require a class II hitch with a 1-1/4" opening. They're both 1-1/4 inches but the Draw-Tite has a stopper inside of it to prevent you from overloading the Class I hitch with Class II accessories. Instead you can use the Brophy # HTAD. You will also need a hitch pin # PC2. So for Draw-Tite hitch # 36416 the tongue weight capacity would be reduced to 150 pounds....

  • Clearance Between Thule 4 Bike Rack and 2005 Chrysler Town and Country with Adapter # 853-7292
  • You will need to know what class hitch you currently have on your Town and Country. This should be indicated on the safety warning label on the hitch. If you have a class l hitch installed, there will be a stop or indent inside the receiver wall that prevents Class ll carriers or ball mounts from being used. If you find that you have a class l receiver, it is rated for a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs, and you would need a class l rack or carrier. All Class l bike carriers are limited...

  • Does MaxxTow Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter MT70032 Have Solid or Hollow Shank
  • The 1-1/4-inch shank of the MaxxTow Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter # MT70032 is solid, not hollow, so it will not work with an anti-rattle device like # SHP2082. All 1-1/4-inch to 2-inch hitch adapters have a solid shank for strength. With this adapter you can use a standard hitch pin like # PC2 or a lock like # 5200. Any hitch adapter will cause you to lose half of your hitch receiver's rated capacity so be sure to check that the weight of the installed accessory does not exceed this...

  • Compatibility of Hitch Expander and Spare Tire Carrier for 1-1/4 Inch Receiver
  • The MaxxTow Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter - 1-1/4" (Class II) to 2" Hitch # MT70032 or the Tow Ready # 80303 has an ability to adapt your hitch and yet will reduce the tongue weight of your hitch by 50%. With a 1-1/4 inch receiver, this weight can be as high as 350 lbs but in most cases is 200 lbs prior to that 50% reduction. That leaves you with 100lbs to carry your spare tire and its carrier like # C31006. In this case, that combination will work with the carrier weight of 31 lbs.

  • Can a Bike Rack for 2-Inch Hitch Be Adapted for a 1-1/4-Inch Hitch
  • You are correct that all of the trailer hitches we offer for the 2006 Subaru Forester are 1-1/4-inch Class II types. These cannot directly accept a hitch-mount bike rack intended for 2-inch hitches, although many bike racks are designed to be compatible with both sizes. Without knowing what rack you have I cannot say whether this is the case for you. If your bike rack is the type that fits only a 2-inch hitch, then the ideal solution is to choose a new rack that will fit your Forester's...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2015 Ford C-Max for Bike Rack with 2 Inch Shank
  • I do have a solution for you, however all of the available trailer hitches that are confirmed to fit your 2015 Ford C-Max are Class I and Class II hitches that have a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. Starting with the trailer hitch, I recommend the Curt Class II Receiver Hitch # C12092. This is custom-fit for your C-Max and will provide a 350 pound tongue weight capacity. Keep in mind that some drilling will be required during installation and the exhaust will need to be temporarily lowered....

  • Trailer Hitch Compatibility with 2015 Chevy Trax and Towing Component Fit
  • For your 2015 Chevy Trax there is not a class III hitch receiver from any of our manufacturers. They do offer Class II options which aren't quite as restricting as the Class I hitches. I recommend the Draw-Tite Class II - 1-1/4" # 36554. You can use this hitch with a hitch expander like # MT70032 to make it compatible with 2 inch accessories like a bike rack. You will however lose 50% of the trailer hitch's rated tongue weight when using an expander like this so the max tongue weight...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver And Hitch Expander For 2017 Toyota Camry
  • The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # 36540 you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Toyota Camry LE. It is a smaller hitch receiver opening, so you will need to use a hitch expander adapter like the MaxxTow Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter - 1-1/4" (Class II) to 2" Hitch - 11" Long # MT70032. This adapter will decrease the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch receiver by 50%. So your max tongue weight capacity with this hitch and expander...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe for Thule Bike Rack
  • If the bike rack you are buying was intended for a 2 inch trailer hitch then you'd want the Draw Tite hitch part # 75684 for your 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe. If instead it's designed for a 1-1/4 inch hitch you'd want the Draw Tite # 36511. I wasn't sure which hitch size the bike rack was designed for but it's best to go with a hitch size that matches it direcly as using hitch adapters can reduce capacity and add movement to the overall setup.

  • Recommended Hitch Bike Racks for Class I Hitch on 2002 Pontiac Sunfire
  • Hitch adapters like MaxxTow # MT70032 are convenient for joining different sizes of hitch receiver and accessory, such as your 2-inch Thule bike rack in your 1-1/4-inch hitch. But the dark side of adapters is that they all cause you to lose 50-percent of your hitch's capacity. The loss of capacity results from the change in the geometry of the system - the adapter/extender allows much more leverage to be applied on the hitch tube. Your car can accept only a light-duty Class I hitch rated...
