The fact that this did not come with a bolt or locking bolt was disappointing, especially because there is no anti-wobble mechanism. The hole spacing is only 6.5" but combined with the bike rack I bought made it stick out too far (to be fair, the bike rack arm itself sticks out almost 18"). So I now plan to return my bike rack and find one fits my 1.25" hitch without an adapter. On the plus side, this is a very strong hitch receiver adaptor that may suit some folks needs - you could weld this to your trailer hitch if you have the tools.

- MT70032
by:

Very handy, we use this to adapt our receiver hitch bike rack to our sedan also the back of our pop up camper. This helps us get more use out of our bike rack.

Everything looks good on this adapter, but there is a LOT of play when actually hooking something into it. I put my bike rack into it from another vehicle where it fits VERY securely into it, and there is about an 1/8" gap when fully inserted. This causes the bikes to flop from side to side and puts a huge strain on the whole system. It's not even safe.

Comments
Hi Ryan, Thanks for your feedback! There are some tolerance differences that can occur during the manufacturing process. With there being a gap nd some play, I would recommend using the etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Stabilizer for 2 inch Hitches, part # e99007
etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Stabilizer for 2" Hitches - Vinyl Coated Steel
$34.43
. This will help get rid of the play in the extender.

Nice and solid trailer hitch. Needed a couple inexpensive tools in order to complete the job. Always make sure to watch the installation video. Makes the job so easy. This is the second trailer hitch I’ve installed. Always quick deliver and great products at a good price.

I have a small car (2004 Ford Focus ZX3) with a 1.25" hitch and receiver. Managed to acquire a sweet bicycle rack with a 2" tongue. What to do? Buy a 1.25" to 2" adaptor and hook everything together, of course. Works exactly as designed - tight fit, excellent finish, and just does exactly what it's supposed to do for very, very little money.

Comments
Please be aware that using an adapter such as this will lower the capacity of your hitch by 50. Most Class I hitches will have a 200 lb tongue weight capacity maximum amount of weight that can safely be suspended from the hitch, using this adapter would lower that to 100 lbs. This would mean that the bikes and rack could weigh no more than 100 lbs in total.

While it solved the problem of getting a 2" entry for my luggage carrier I find it very long, and from an engineering standpoint I think unnecessarily so. It is very strong but also extremely heavy and this necessitates clamping both the in and out which makes it even more costly! I would like to see a company engineer a shorter and lighter design, with thinner metal plate reinforced by external rings as at the end of this one! Also it should include spacers to fix the "rattle" movements at no charge!

Comments
The adapter works, but is long, very heavy, and rattles. Time to next year maybe? install a 2-inch hitch.

The adapter is a simple piece of hardware but does exactly what it's designed to do. I purchased it to facilitate the use of a Thule bicycle rack - which the seller informed me had a 2" hitch - with my 1.25" trailer hitch. Turned out the seller didn't realize the Thule's 2" hitch was a removable sleeve, concealing the underlying 1.25" hitch. So now I have an adapter I don't need for this application but will hold onto in case I run into a situation that might require it. The adapter will last forever and arrived quickly and well-packaged from eTrailer.com. There's nothing these folks don't carry, at excellent prices and with great service.

- MT70032
by:

I bought this adapter to use with my Class I hitch, even though it is not meant for a Class I and actually won't fit without modification. I am not planning to use this for towing, only for a hitch mount carrier. I had to take my 4" grinder and trim some off the end of this adapter to make it fit since the adapter is really meant for a Class II hitch (pin hole does not line up with Class I hole). You need to keep in mind that adding this adapter divides your tongue capacity in half. So, a Class I hitch normally has 200 lb tongue weight maximum. Adding this adapter reduces the maximum tongue weight to 100 lbs. Something to keep in mind when deciding what 2" accessories you can use.

- MT70032
by:

This hitch adapter gets the job done with my Thule bike rack. I will say that even though I know everything is installed correctly and won't fail, I don't like that when I hut bumpy roads, potholes, etc that my bike rack and bike wobble extensively.

- MT70032
by:

The trailer hitch 1 1/2" to 2" receiver adapter inserted snugly into the receiver on my Ford Escape. There was no difficulty in inserting the adapter pin and clip. The adapter allows us to use our bike rack and trailer hitch cargo carrier which were originally purchased for the 2" adapter on our GMC Acadia. It is important not to exceed the load limits recommended by MaxxTow.

- MT70032
by:

This adapter will be OK for my needs. Works well, but I have two issues with it. First the 1 1/4" shank is not straight with the 2 1/2" female tube. The other thing is the 2 1/2" female tube is too shallow. I had to cut 3/8" off of my cargo carriers 2" male tube so the pin holes would line up.

- MT70032
by:

I purchased this adapter for the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 bike rack. My Grand Cherokee has a 2" receiver and My wife's Subaru Outback has a 1.25 receiver. The 2" end of the adapter is just the correct depth with an 1/8" to spare for the bike rack and the 1.25" end fits the Subaru nicely. Now I can use the rack on either vehicle.

- MT70032
by:

I bought this to modify a 1 1/4" receiver to hold a 2" bike rack and to extend the rack a little further back--this adapter works perfectly. The adapter seems well made and well protected from the elements--but since I live in an area with a lot of salt air, the test will be over time.

- MT70032
by:

The quality of the product is fine; it's just a welded piece of metal. The only complaint, and it really isn't a fault of the product, is that by using an adapter, you now have two pin joints that are less that tight. This results in quite a bit of wobble if you are using this for a bike rack or something other than pulling a trailer. If you are just pulling a trailer, the extra wobble isn't too be of a deal. Overall though, it did what I was wanting it to do.

The adapter arrived in a short time and is exactly what I need to move my 2 inch hitch on my trailer around with my one and a quarter Hitch on my vehicle. This lets me use one vehicle to move two trailers with different hitches around my driveway. Service from E trailer is excellent And my vendor of choice

This is a great product. It allows us to use our existing 2 inch ball mounts with our 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch. Our trailers do not exceed the 1-1/4 inch hitch capacity.
