This is exactly what I needed on my truck. The hitch gave me the reach I needed to launch my boat while keeping the trucks rear end out of the water. The recent tides are high and my trucks tires and rotors would get submerged in the water. With the extension added only a small portion of my tires were in the water. The tide was high that it was spilling out of the ramp.

I do not tow with the extension. I take the time and exchange the hitch in the boat parking lot. It worked perfectly.

Thanks

by:

Just what I needed to extend trailer hitch. A bit pricey but it’s rated at 10,000 pounds so it’s heavy duty.

by:

Good quality hitch extender, however, ended up not using it because I just wasn’t comfortable with the weight distribution aspect. Ended up buying a Hensley Hitch for the camper. Will not hesitate to use it for my flatbed trailer pulling a lighter load though.

  • Solution for Hitch Extension With 1,000 Pound TW and 10,000 Pound GTW Capacity on 2000 F-350
I have a possible solution, but none of the 14-16" extensions have a high enough capacity. The only thing that comes close is the Gen-Y # GY89SR which has a gross towing weight of 10,000 lbs, but the max tongue weight is only 500 lbs. This would also reduce the capacity of your hitch by 50% like many hitch extenders do. If you can handle it being slightly shorter, what you could use instead is the Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitch # BH20. This is 13-1/4" long and has the capacity you need....

  • Availability Of A 12" Long Hitch Extension Rated For 10,000 lbs Towing
We do have a hitch extender that will work for your application. After looking thru the available options, it seems the Gen-Y Hitch Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches # GY89SR is going to be your best bet. This extension is 14" long from the center of hitch pin hole to center of hitch pin hole, it can be adjusted to 12" length as well. It is rated for 10,000 lbs so it will be plenty strong for this setup.

  • Is There A 12" Hitch Extension I Can Use While Flat Towing?
I do have a potential solution for you, but I do not have an extender that will measure exactly 12". At least nothing that will be rated for use while flat towing. I do have a 14" hitch extender from Gen-Y part # GY89SR. This is rated for 10,000 lbs towing and 500 lbs tongue weight. It is recommended to use an anti rattle device like part # e99007 when using an extension. This will help to reduce any additional play at the hitch. You will also need a second hitch pin like the # e98880. Please...

  • Comparing Gen-Y and Curt 14 Long Hitch Extenders For a 2 Receiver
The Gen-Y Hitch Hitch Extender # GY89SR is far superior to the Curt Hitch Extender # C45795. The Gen-Y is made in the USA, comes with a lifetime warranty and as you pointed out has the higher 10,000lb trailer capacity with up to 500lbs of tongue weight. The Curt is only rated for 3,500lbs of trailer weight and 350lbs of tongue weight. It also only comes with a 1-year warranty. For weight the Gen-Y only weighs 16lbs while the Curt weighs 18lbs.

  • How To Determine The Correct Hitch Extender For Towing A Boat Trailer With A Truck Bed Camper
Adding a hitch extender to your setup does reduce the tongue weight and towing capacity by 50% so we would need to find an extender that's rated around the 10,000lb range to be safe. You'll also need to take into account the size of your Sierra's trailer hitch receiver opening and the length that you'll need to clear the truck bed camper. If you had a 2" receiver opening then something like the Gen-Y Hitch Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long # GY89SR could be the solution...

  • Hitch Extender Type Solution for Weight Distribution System
I have a really great solution for you but none of the hitch extenders that fit a 2 inch hitch can be used with a weight distribution system. Instead you'd want to go with a much longer weight distribution shank. The longest 2" weight distribution shank for 1,400lbs of tongue weight is the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution shank # EQ90-02-4600 which measures 18". This would give you about the same additional length you would get with the hitch extender you mentioned.

  • Can a Hitch Extender Be Used With Ram 1500 Pulling a 5,500LB Winnebago Travel Trailer?
I have a recommendation for you as there is not a hitch extender capable of supporting the weight of your Winnebago behind your Ram 1500. You may be able to use the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4600 which is 6" longer than most weight distribution shanks. You only need to verify your Husky has a vertical hole spacing of 1-1/4" on center. Adapters like the Gen-Y # GY89SR require you to reduce your receiver capacity by 50%. This will most likely put you below the 5,500lb capacity...

If you are using the GearSpace 34 Enclosed Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitch - Slide Out - 34 cu ft - 300 lbs - Dark Gray, part # HGK819, at its maximum length, you will need to add a hitch extender to your 2022 Ram 3500 in order to provide the necessary clearance to open the rear doors of your 2022 Ram 3500. • Can A Hitch Extender Be Used With A Front Mount Trailer Hitch To Park A Travel Trailer
Hi Don, Hitch extenders place a lot of stress on the hitch because you're leveraging the weight further out so using one typically drops the capacity by 50% when towing. You'd be doing it in a parking lot situation where you wouldn't really be traveling much just more so maneuvering around so realistically that shouldn't affect you but depending on how much weight you're leveraging there could be a breaking point, we just wouldn't be able to know exactly what that point is. • What Hitch Extension Is Needed On GMC Sierra To Carry Slide In Camper With Tailgate & Tow a Trailer
Without knowing the exact weights for your trailer and assuming you have a 2" receiver we do have the Gen-Y Hitch Extender # GY89SR. The extender is going to add 14" of length to your ball mount and with the 13" you have for clearance on the trailer this should allow you to clear your tailgate. This is capable of being used with a ball mount to tow a trailer up to 10,000lbs with up to 500lbs of tongue weight. Do note it does reduce your receivers towing capacity by 50% of its rating. If...

  • Does Gen-Y 14 Inch Hitch Extender Reduce Total Weight Capacity of Trailer Hitch
So for your GMC Sierra 2500, I was unable to find exactly what the hitch itself was rated for; I'm seeing different numbers all over the place, but I can still answer your questions regarding a hitch extender. Any adapter/extender will reduce the entire capacity and all ratings of the hitch, including the Gen-Y Hitch Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long # GY89SR. If you use the # GY89SR your capacities will be limited to whichever is lower - half of your hitch capacities or...

  • Recommended 2 Inch Hitch Extender w/ a 500 lbs Tongue Weight Capacity
Yes, there is. It is the Gen-Y Hitch Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches item # GY89SR which is actually 14" long. This fits a 2" receiver, has a 500 lbs tongue weight, and a 10,000 lbs maximum towing capacity. This extender, like all others, reduces your hitches capacities by 50% so you will want to verify this still gives you enough ability to haul your trailer.

  • Is Trailer Weight Also Reduced with Gen-Y Hitch Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches
Yes, the Gen-Y Hitch Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches part # GY89SR as with any hitch extender reduces both tongue weight and gross trailer weight by half. The weight capacity with this hitch extender is 500 lbs for tongue weight and 10,000 lbs for gross trailer weight unless the hitch is rated lower.

Using a hitch extender like this would also reduce the trailer hitch's capacity by 50% since it's leveraging the tongue weight on the trailer hitch further out then originally intended.
