Video Transcript for Gen-Y Hitch Reducer Sleeve Spec Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Gen Y Hitch Reducer Sleeve. Now this adaptor changes your two and a half inch receiver to a two inch receiver. So that way you can use your two inch hitch mount accessories inside of your two and a half inch trailer hitch. The unit is constructed of a sturdy steel construction and it features a black powder coated finish that's going to help it resist rust and corrosion. It's going to last and look good for a long time. Now a pin and clip or a hitch lock, those items are not included, so they will need to be provided separately. If you're in need of one, you can find them here at etrailer.com. This unit will accept a standard 5/8th diameter pin.

The product is made in the USA.A few measurements to go over with you real quick. Starting with the overall length, measures five and a half inches. From the center of the pin hole to this edge right here measures three inches. And from this edge to the center of the pin hole measures two and a half inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the Gen Y Hitch Reducer Sleeve.

The adapter did what it advertised. With that said I ended up just buying a larger shank for my distribution hitch. With the original shank and using the adapter there was just to much slop and on bumpy roads it was starting to wallow out the hitch receiver.

Solid adaptor

Perfect fit for my 2019 Ford f250 with a 2 -1/2 inch receiver

I just received the item...that’s why it’s a four stars, haven’t had a chance to try it out yet...seems to fit fine, I’m sure it will work out just fine. If I have any issues I’ll sure to report it.
E-Trailer has been a great place to buy for all my towing and trailer needs... I have had no complaints at this point in time...thanks.

Works as advertised...have had no issues, hauled loads of an excess of 13,000lbs. E-trailer is a great place for your trailer needs from products to great people.

by:

This reducer sleeve is quite nicely manufactured. I have absolutely no doubt that it will provide a mechanically safe and secure means to adapt my recently purchased adjustable 2" hitch unit with the rear 2.5" receiver on my 2019 F250 for use with any trailers that are at or under the specified load range. The only reasons that I gave it 4 stars vs 5 is that the interior isn't 100% covered with paint, as well as the fact that it doesn't fit really tightly inside the rear receiver of the F250. I hope this doesn't dissuade prospective purchasers from strongly considering this reducer sleeve for similar applications, as it's well manufactured and will most likely perform quite satisfactorily under any reasonable towing conditions.

by:

This product does exactly what it is made to do, reduce a 2.5" receiver to 2" so I can use all of my 2" hitch accessories, at a price I was wiling to pay.

by:

it is a smooth fit

  • 2-1/2" Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers for a Blue Ox Apollo Tow Bar
Yes, you can use the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers item # 325-GH-1925 with your Blue Ox Apollo Non-Binding Tow Bar - 2-1/2" Hitch item # BX7470. However, it is not available without the 2-Ball mounts. This ball mount has a 32,000 lbs towing capacity. If you are going to be using this ball mount to mount a bike rack I recommend the Gen-Y Iron Grip Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin item # GY99FR. This pin will fit your 2-1/2" receiver and 2" hitch using a Adapter/Reducer like #...

  • Adapter For Carrying a 2" Bike Rack Lower On a 2020 Ram 2500 With 2-1/2" Receiver
You will want to use the Patriot Hitches Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter # PH67SR with a Reducer Sleeve # 325-GH-007 to carry your bike rack. The adapters like the Roadmaster # RM-076 you found are only to be used when flat towing and are not designed for the stress of carrying a hitch mounted accessory or towing a trailer.

  • Is There 2-1/2 inch Hitch Adapter that Doesn't Add Length to Hitch Setup
Hey Doug, we do have the Gen-Y Adapter part # 325-GH-007 which is a sleeve style adapter that fits into a 2-1/2 inch hitch and reduces it to a 2 inch hitch without adding any extension. It sounds like this is what you are looking for.

  • Can The Extended Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank Be Used With a 2-1/2" To 2" Reducer?
Yes, you can use the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4600 with a Reducer Sleeve # 325-GH-007 on your 2022 Ram 2500. I do highly recommend using a Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-062 to remove the excess play from the receiver to the hitch. Having the reducer does create more play than a single ball mount.

  • Cushioned Shank For Use With Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System
We do have an option for you, though there isn't a standalone cushioned ball mount like the Curt Rebellion XD Shock Absorbing Adjustable Ball Mount # C45949-22516 that is compatible or rated for use with a weight distribution system. What you can use instead is a cushioned shank that is compatible with your Equal-i-zer weight distribution system; the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank will mount directly in your trailer hitch and you'll simply replace your Equal-i-zer's shank with...

The Gen-Y Hitch Reducer Sleeve part # 325-GH-007 is what I recommend as a universal 2-1/2" to 2" receiver tube adapter. This is what you'll need to use all your old accessories with your new truck. The Replacement 2-1/2 to 2 Adapter Sleeve is designed specifically for TorkLift SuperHitch Magnum Trailer Hitches.

Yes you can use the lower rated Gen-Y Torsion weight distribution shank part # GY54FR which matches your tongue weight range as well as drop requirement. You would need a sleeve adapter like you mentioned as well like with the # 325-GH-007 and you'd be set.

To tow your Lance trailer and haul a motorcycle carrier off of your F-250's hitch, I recommend the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers item # 325-GH-515. This adjustable ball mount has five 2" receiver openings that will allow you to use both a hitch mounted motorcycle rack and tow your trailer. This double ball mount has a 1,500 lbs tongue capacity and a 12,000 lbs towing capacity. If you have a 2-1/2" receiver you will want the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked...

  • Recommended Inexpensive Weight Distribution System with Sway Control for 6,000-7,000 Lb Trailer
The Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution System part # RE94FR is an excellent, cost effective option for a 6,000-7,000 lb trailer. It's rated up to 8,000 lbs so anything between this and 4,000 lbs will be perfect. It's a complete system with included hitch ball already pre-torqued. It also offers both weight distributing and sway control properties. Please note, for 2-1/2" trailer hitch applications you'll need a reducer like the Gen-Y Hitch Reducer Sleeve part # 325-GH-007.

  • Recommended Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank for a Husky Centerline System
I do have an option for you, but given the information provided the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank # 325-GH-1102 which fits directly in your 2-1/2" hitch is not the best route for you. That is because the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank # 325-GH-1102 needs a minimum tongue weight of 1,200 lbs for the built-in shock absorption to function. With your trailer only having a tongue weight of 1,050 lbs. it wouldn't be enough for this shank to work appropriately for you. Instead...

The length of a ball mount like the Draw-Tite Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 7" Rise, 8" Drop - 9-1/2" Long - 12,000 lbs # 4283 is measured from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball mount hole. This particular ball mount is 9-1/2" long from the center of the hitch pin hole to the ball mount hole. For your new Dodge Ram 2500, the 2-1/2 inch Receiver can be reduced using the Gen-Y Hitch Reducer Sleeve - 2-1/2" to 2" # 325-GH-007 and is compatible with weight distribution systems. If you want a better fit for a weight distribution system, I recommend instead using the Curt Weight Distribution Shank for 2-1/2" Hitches # C17131. I have a solution for you, but you can't use the Roadmaster # RM-058-4 to tow a trailer; this high/low adapter is only suited for flat towing where there is not any tongue weight. Instead you can use a hitch reducer like the Gen-Y Hitch Reducer Sleeve - 2-1/2" to 2" - 5-1/2" Long # 325-GH-007 to make your 2-1/2" receiver on your 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 into a 2" receiver that will work with your existing weight distribution hitch. • Comparing Different 2-1/2" to 2" Trailer Hitch Reducer Sleeve Adapters
We have several different 2-1/2" to 2" reducer sleeves for trailer hitches. There really isn't much difference between them from manufacturer to manufacturer. The ones made from more reputable manufactures will typically have a tighter fit and less slop. That said, you'll also pay a bit more for them. I recommend the Gen-Y Hitch Reducer Sleeve part # 325-GH-007 which is a great option from a reputable manufacturer at an affordable price. If you would like for me to try and compare two...

If that isn't far enough to clear your tailgate I recommend using the Curt Hitch Extension and Reducer for 2-1/2" item # C45048. You will need to go with a universal option and the one I recommend is the Curt Class 5 Universal Weld-on Hitch w/ Brackets item # 15903. This is a class V hitch with a 2" receiver.
