Video Transcript for Rampage Radiant Heater Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rampage Radiant Backseat Heater. This is a 300-watt 12-volt heater. It's part number is RA3501. The Rampage heater is going to be a perfect solution for those off-road vehicles or even on-road vehicles that don't stay quite as warm as what we might like in the wintertime. This is going to offer us a fan mode also so we can help circulate some air if it does get a little bit stale or gets a little warm in the summer. We've got two modes. Switch down, it's going to put us in heater mode.

It's going to kick our heater on as well as our fan and circulate the warm air. Middle position is going to be off of course. If we go up, we're in fan-only mode. That's going to circulate air, give us a nice breeze blowing around the vehicle without adding any heat to our situation. There's an adjustable knob here.

It's going to have four settings. We'll start on it high and then as we tip it down, that's going to help you to adjust that level of air flow or the level of heat that you want inside the vehicle. There's multiple mounting options available whether you're going to be putting it in the backseat, the front seat, between the seats, whatever the case may be, this is going to work out great. It's also pretty quiet. That opens it up to some other uses if you wanted to have something around, maybe in a blind tree stand, something that like if you had a source of 12-volt power. Be a great solution for that as well. Another great feature that you're going to enjoy about the Rampage heater is that when we just get in the vehicle and we're cold and we really need to warm up, this could be pointed right up at us giving us full advantage of the heater.

Just like the vents in your vehicle, when you don't want it blown on you any more this can easily be tilted down and it will give us a radiant heat of the entire vehicle rather than just on us. Now that we've gone over our features, let's take a look at our installation. First thing we need to do of course is find a space where it's going to be out of the way, still easy to get to. We want to be able to control our knobs and such, but not in any place where we're going to be hitting it with our foot or anything like that. Once we found that space, you can see we're going to use this area here. Our handles are still free to operate our emergency brakes and things such as that, but it's not going to be in the way.

Once we found that position we'll mark the outside of our bracket. I like to do it on the side and the front. That way it will give me a nice corner here to use as a reference point. Then we'll be able to remove the bracket from the heater just by pushing down with a little bit of force. We'll set the heater aside for now. That's going to give us access into our screw hole locations. We'll put our bracket back down. Line it up with the marks that we made there. Use either the hardware provided or your own hardware. In our case we're going to use a couple self-tapping screws and secure it right into the floor or whatever surface that you want to mount it to. You see there, it's going to have our bracket nice and secure. Let's now just double-check by bringing our heater down, clipping it into the tabs there. Yeah, that looks perfect. It's got a good solid mounting location there and it will be out of the way. The heater's going to offer two leads that are already going to have the ring terminals on it. All we have to do is run this to a 12-volt power source. It's a very easy installation to get done. Today we're going to be running underneath the floor mats. I'm just going to lift this up. Just get my wires tucked in here. I'm going to feed them in far enough to where I can reach them from the other side. Now, it's up to you on how you want to run your wires. Some people like to get them outside of the car, run them along the outside. Some people like to keep them inside the car and out of the weather. You really got limitless options as far as mounting this is going to go. We'll pull our wires through. We're going to leave them. We won't go super tight with them. You just want to guide them in. inaudible 00:04:42 kinked or anything like that. All right. That's going to give us a nice clean look up front here. Here you can see our positive and negative. We've got it inside of our vehicle here. You do have an end line fuse holder and I like to remove the fuse while I'm making the connections and then as soon as we get it down, we'll just plug that dude right back in. This truck runs a 24-volt system. If you're going to be using this heater in a 24-volt system, you need a converter. This converts us from 24 volts down to 12 volts. We're going to be hooking right into that 12-volt outlet side. In most cases you can hook right up to your power source in your vehicle and ground it out to your frame or hook it up to the positive and negative side of your battery. All of those are going to be effective. I like to hook up my negative side first. We call it the ground side sometimes. As we go back in, we just want to make sure we have a good solid connection. We'll make our negative connection there and then our positive. One thing you may have to do is just switch out your terminals. Let's say you battery's got a larger volt on it, a smaller volt, whatever the case may be. It's a real easy change. All you have to do is cut the lead. You're not going to hurt it. It's not like some kind of intricate wiring harness that you have to really pay attention to. Cut the end off, strip it and add whatever kind of connector you need for your application. It's very versatile easy system to use. We'll ad our new terminal to the end and simply crimp it down and make that connection point on our invertor or battery box as well. Right. With those nice and tight, the last step is going to be to put our fuse in place and tidy up our excess wire. Of course you can leave as much of this hear as you want. You can cut off just what you need, but we always like to leave some here in cause our customer would decide that he wants to change his setup or maybe we need to make a repair down the road. Having plenty of wire there to go back to is always a good thing. We'll just use a couple zip ties. I'll bundle that right up nicely and we won't have to worry about it. That little bit of extra off. Now that we've seen how it's going to mount in our vehicle and how it works, that will complete today's look at the Rampage Radiant Backseat Heater, part number RA3501. .

The amount of heat is weak. Just too sm all.

I do have another heater that you can consider, part # KH37100

You'd have to check the wattage of your inverter to determine if it could power the Kat's Heaters Vehicle Interior Heater # KH37100 that you referenced. If it's rated for 900 watts or more this would work but if it's lower rated it would not. Otherwise we have a 12 volt heater that could be wired directly to your battery with the part # RA3501 which puts out a decent amount of heat.

  • Will Using Rampage Heater # RA3501 Drain Battery On 1985 Ford Ranger Overnight
The Rampage Radiant Backseat Heater, part # RA3501, has a 300 watt output. If left on all night, it will probably drain the battery on your 1985 Ford Ranger. I would recommend a second battery as the power source for your heater. It would eliminate the need to hook the cables from the heater to the truck battery. I also recommend a charger like the NOCO Genius # 329-GENIUS5. This charger will automatically switch to trickle mode to maintain the charge on the battery, which prevents overheating...
