Designed especially for your newer Ford Super Duty, this under-bed gooseneck hitch provides superior towing capability along with a variety of unique features. Video Transcript for Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Ford F350, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Reese Elite series under bed gooseneck trailer hitch with a 25,000 pounds capacity. It's part number is RP30138-26.Now here's what your Elite kit is going to look like installed. As you can see, there's a huge advantage to this system with the designed puck system or the factory prep package on our gooseneck all being underneath the bed. We're going to have full access, so we're not going to have any limitations about the storage area in our bed we won't have rails sticking up that'll get in the way when we're trying to move things in and out.The four pucks are designed to work with fifth wheels designed to work in the prep package that simply slide down in, rotate the handle and that's going to hold it into position. You can see we'll have four of those allowing us great access to get our fifth wheel in and in place. Here in the middle you can see our gooseneck.

We've got a ball that simply drops down in. When not in use, it's going to be sealed with this cover to keep out any dirt or any grime that might want to collect. Now this kit offers a two and 5/16 inch ball, that's very common. As you can see our balls are designed when we have our latch up to be pulled in. That way we could easily slide this in and we rotate that. The two balls are going to go into the holes on each side.

So as we drop it in, we want to have that in line. We can simply rotate the latch on top and it's going to position itself accordingly. As you can see, it's going to give you a pretty nice, snug fit.Now you can see this system is really easy to use. It goes in and out very quickly. One thing though that you do want to keep in mind, if you grease your gooseneck coupler, then you might have some grease to deal with in your latch.

Which is won't necessarily affect the performance of it, but it can make it a little bit messy. Also in the kit, you've got your safety chain connection points. You just want to lift up on that middle section, place it in and then as you rotate it, you'll see that's going to go down and hold the position giving us an asy way to connect our safety chain and that can be done on both sides. Now with the gooseneck kit, you're going to get both your safety chain connection points and the ball and of course the gooseneck head that fits in the middle. If you opt for just the fifth wheel prep package, those items aren't going to be included and you won't have to worry about drilling the fifth hole here in the middle of the bed.Now you're also going to have a convenient storage bag here. You can fit all of your components in there and just allow you to keep everything together.

You can tuck this right underneath your seat or wherever you want it to be stored. You won't have to worry about losing one piece or the other. Now the kit's going to have a vertical load limit or the maximum downward force that we can put on it of 6250 pounds. And it gives us a 25,000 pound gross trailer weight rating, so that'd be the total weight of your trailer, anything you might have loaded on it. Definitely keep in mind though, you don't want to exceed the capacity of your truck. So check that first then use whichever number is going to be the lowest. You can see the brackets on both sides are meant to line up with our factory holes. So we don't have to worry about drilling through the frame or anything like that. And they're cut out to allow us access to get factory bolts passage through. Now this is a black powder coat finish, so you're not going to have to worry about scratching. You're not going to have to worry about rust for a long time to come. Overall, fairly straightforward kit to get installed here on the under side of the bed once you get your bed to where you can lift it up and off.Now to begin the installation process, we need to start by cutting out the holes. We're going to be using the dimples here on the outside. Now these dimples here closer to the outside, you're going to find them pretty close to the bed bolts, going to be the ones we're going to be using for the fifth wheel rails for the prep package holes. You don't want to confuse that with the pinch wells. They're little kind of recesses here where they welded it together. That's not what we want to use. You'll be able to see a very positive dimple. And then if we come to the middle here, we'll be using this on for our gooseneck. If you're installing the gooseneck head as well, you want to enlarge this one. Now for this one it's going to be a three and a 1/2 inch hole. The other's going to be two and 3/4 of an inch. Now our hole saw has a quarter inch bit on it. So you can start by drilling a pilot hole first or you can just use that bit to get your hole started. Once our hole's through, we'll enlarge it to the two and 3/4. Now we'll go around and do the three remaining locations.Once you've got the holes drilled out, you'll want to clean up these metal shavings so you're not tracking them across your bed that can cause a lot of scratching. Now we want to check our holes. We're going to use a file or file bit just to go around and clean up the edges, make sure you don't have anything sharp. Then we're going to use just a little bit of clear coat and touch up those edges. That way you won't have to worry about any rusting around that bare metal. We'll do that for other locations. Now we'll do the same thing for our center hole here, just using the larger hole saw of course. And this is going to be only if you're installing the gooseneck head as well. Now to get our rails in position, we need to remove the four bed bolts. They run in a straight line here on the passengers' side. Then on the drivers' side, we need to loosen them up. You'll wan them to be about that loose. Now to do it, we've got a provided T50 Torx bit. That will fit into a 5/16 inch socket or bit driver, or if you already have a Torx bit set, you can use an already existing Torx bit. But you'll want to use that to remove the four on the passengers' side, loosen the four on the drivers' side. Now this is a little bit of a struggle to get these out. But one thing to keep in mind, you really don't want to use power tools here. Just because the Loctite they use at the factory if it gets too hot can almost become permanent, then you're worried about cutting bolts out.We ran into a very common problem that you're going to have on these Ford pickup truck beds. And that's that the bed bolts that go down through the clip nuts, they get seized and it's very difficult to remove it. We went through three or four different 50 IP Torx plus bits. And you can see here, we had to grind some of the heads off of the bolts. We of course protected the bed when we did that. This is what a full one looks like. This one actually came out, four of them came out, four of them didn't. Really want to soak these down as much as you can with some kind of penetrating oil to give you the best opportunity. But it's likely you're going to break them. So they are replaceable. They make bed bolt kits for the truck, just because this happens so common. You can call any dealership and they typically run into this issue with them.So we're going to be replacing all of our bed bolts with new bolts. But you do have an option, the benefit of this kit is that you get a prep package to where you can use a gooseneck and you can use a fifth wheel. The negative side of the kit is that you have to raise the passenger side of the bed to get that installed. As an option, something that's going to alleviate a lot of the work and eliminate the need to remove these bed bolts would be something like the B and W under bed gooseneck kit and then add a companion. You seem to be kind of in the same range of what the total cost is going to be for you once you get this kit and also purchase a fifth wheel, little drop into the prep package. So definitely something to consider if you don't have a little bit of heavier duty equipment to grind some of these bolts off. You need to cut the clips and have to drive those down and out. So while it is a very good system, it allows a lot of versatility using the gooseneck and the fifth wheel. There are options out there that might be a little easier to install. Now we're going to use a jack or in our case a pole jack. And we just want to get our bed lifted up. We're going to put some blocks underneath there, just to support it. This is the gap that we need to get our rails in position. Now we'll get our rails slide in. The rails are the same front and back, but we need to ensure that we have these square notches facing forward on our rear rail and we want them facing the rear on our forward rail.I'm just going to slide them up and over our frame rail. May need to go to the other side and guide it. What you want it to do is this portion to rest on the frame on both sides. Be able to slide that rear one, we want that to be positioned up against the front edge of that hat channel there. Now we're going to do the same thing for our forward rail. Again, we want that facing rearward. Now it's time to attach the side plate. We're going to attach this loosely. We're on the passenger side of the truck and you'll notice on the front edge of this you've going to have two humps. The one designed for the drivers' side just has one cut out. We're going to secure it in place using our hex bolts, inch and 3/4 inch long. You want to have a conical tooth washer on that. That's going to go up through the side plate, through the rail. And then on the top side, we're going to place on a conical tooth washer like that and also a hex nut. Now to get the hex nut in place, you're probably going to have to lower that bolt down a little bit and then get it started. Again just going to leave that loose, we're going to do the same thing for the rear one. Now let's head over to the drivers' side and we'll do the same thing there. Now once both side plates are on, we want to line up our holes. See this one's pretty much going to be your exhaust is here, Christmas tree fastener right above it. Your hat channel's here. So the first hole just in front. You'll place in an M14 bolt a conical tooth washer. On the back side, we you want to thread on one of your flange nuts. Now these are just going to be hand tight for now. No need to over tighten them. We'll do the same thing for our front hole. Now we're going to head over to the other side and you want to do the same thing there. For the forward bolt on that side, you may want to lift your bed just slightly to give you enough room to kind of get your hand in there and get the nut on the back.Once we've got all four of those in place, let's lower our bed back down so it makes contact with the frame. Now for the gooseneck head portion of the installation, we need to take our large carriage bolts. These are going to slide in each of the slots there. Got a little interference with that heat shield, we might just tap that one in.Now we'll place the center section up and in place. We're going to secure it with the larger conical tooth washer and nut that came with the gooseneck kit. We'll put one of those in all four locations. Now we're going to take the inserts here for the prep package. We want to take our button head bolt, place a lock washer on it. We'll place that down and through. It's a little bit easier to get your lock washer down there first. With the 3/8 hex head, you want to place, you'll see it's kind of long ways this way. That's going to go left and right. Place that down in and we can get that bolt started. Now we want to do that in all four locations. Now we can get the four of those snugged down. We'll torque them down to the specifications, which will be listed in your instructions. Now once we have these tighten down, I like to put the bed bolts back in place. This will ensure that we have them at least all started before we start tightening the brackets, that way it's not going to shift on us.Next we're going to move onto the bolts that connect the side plates to the rails here. You'll need a 15/16 for this. Once we get them all snug, we're going to torque these to the specs in the instructions as well. Now we're going to need to tighten down the bolts that hold the side plates to the frame. You can see I've got about a nine inch extension here. We're using a 19 millimeter deep well socket. And if we go in right here above the tank, we'll be able to get to the nut on the back side of that bolt. We can hold it here while we secure it on the outside using a 22 millimeter. The back one you can see it's easier to get to, located right here. We're also going to snug that down. Once we have all four tightened down, we'll torque them to the specifications in our instructions. Now we'll come in and get our gooseneck bolts tighten down. For this we're going to use an inch and 1/8 and we also want to torque these to the specification listed this time they're in your gooseneck instructions. All right, now it's time for us to go through. We want to get our bed bolts secured back down and torqued to the specifications, those are also in your instructions. And that'll complete the installation of our Reese Elite series under bed gooseneck trailer hitch on our 2015 Ford F350.

Package was delivered with tears in bottom corners, inside the hardware bag was torn open and much of the hardware was loose in box. Inventory revealed 2 parts were missing. Called etrailer customer service and in a few minutes the rep had them on the way to me. Great service! Thank you! 674192

2010 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Will try to keep this as real as it gets out there. 2015 F250 XLT Crew Cab 8' Bed Ordered the Reese Elite Gooseneck and Barger 90 degree wiring harness. Received the gooseneck hitch and harness quickly. Free shipping got here in two days. Item came in two boxes. The rails were poorly packaged. Box was basically open and beat to hell, leaving markings on the rails' paint. Didn't bother me, but might others. The pucks were loose in the box and were lucky they did not fall out. The second box with the ball, ball mount, harness and misc. hardware was packed so well it took about 5 minutes to take off all the staples and then each product was individually boxed inside. Wish they would treat the rail box with the same care. Instructions are ok. Used the online install video instead. The video is slightly simplified as getting the nuts on the bolts is a slight challenge for a one man install. I was able to do the entire installation by myself with the exception of the four rail-to-frame bolts. Getting these snugged up to the point of being able to torque took two people simply because the nuts are hidden on the backside of the rail...particularly the driver-side front...which is slightly behind the gas tank, but still accessible. My F250 is factory lifted 4-5" so I did not have to remove the rear wheels, nor did I have to remove the spare tire or heat shield. Lower trucks will need the rear wheels pulled. Installing the ball mounting plate took some doing. Got one bolt on then decided to actually install the ball into the plate from above pulling the plate tight below. I used vice grips to basically keep the plate mounted tight rather than trying to lift it from underneath with one had and bolt it with the other. For me the most time consuming part of the project was getting the darned bed bolts off to lift the right side. Broke the T50 bit they supplied and then two others. Finally gave up and ground off two of the remaining bolts...and ordered replacements. Tip for those doing this on their own, you may want to spray the bolts from under with PB Blaster the day before you intend to install. I forgot and the issue was likely that the bolts were rusted. The wiring harness was a breeze, although I wish a shorter version was available. (Perhaps I missed it). Had to loop/zip tie about 2-3' under the bed. Connecting between the factory connectors did require me to pull the mounting plate. Was a bit tight to just slip the new connector in. Also, working the harness thru the hole in the bed side was a bit tight. Install probably took 10 minutes after getting the holes drilled. Total install time for this slightly skilled guy was about 3-1/2 hours...after the bed bolts fiasco. Oh...and did it all with a cast on the left arm. Ha! Now to see how she tows! 430852

The system was easy to install and works great. It leaves for a nice, clean, working area inside the box when the hitch unit isn't in service. Great service by e-trailer as well! 285444

Wanted to leave a message about all my experiences with etrailer. I purchased a new Ford F-350 Super Duty in August and wanted a lot of aftermarket items for it. I accidentally found etrailer on the internet while searching. They have everything I was looking for. Their pricing was very competitive with free shipping on a lot of items. The last item purchased was a Reese gooseneck ball and safety chain hookup. It’s a great item, very easy to install and shipped the next day. I’m very pleased with etrailer. 571867

Excellent hitch works perfectly pulls great the only thing I can tell you is don't let the locking pin dangle when not in use because it will beat the pint off the side of the hitch. this isn't the hitches fault its my fault 571155

Great hitch. Very heavy and sturdy. Fits my 2016 F350 with factory puck system like a glove. Very easy drop into pucks and lock into place. The hitch separates into two pieces to make it able to be installed or removed by one person, but two are better. We tow a 16,00 pound 5th wheel with this hitch. 539826

Item was received well packaged. All parts were received as expected. I wish I would have taken pictures of box when it was received or as I installed it on my 2015 F250 but rest assured it fit into my Ford with the 5th wheel prep package quite easily. Directions were adequate. My only issue was I did not know if the pre-asembly of the base was torqued correctly. There was no mention of it in the packaging and I do not own a torque wrench so it would have been comforting to know that it was done properly before shipment. However it appeared to be okay and I had no issues towing my 5th wheel the 15 miles from the dealership to my home. Also there is no mention prior to ordering that you need lithium grease to properly lube the moving parts. Make sure you have on hand prior to assembly. Overall, excellent product and I am definitely please with it and highly recommend it. 203214

I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase one year ago of this hitch. We have towed our 32 crusader across the country and back via different routes with no issues. I have read where others find it heavy to lift in and out of the truck bed. I would too except I remove the hitch plate to lighten the load so that I am lifting two relatively lite pieces instead of one heavy piece. We take the 5th wheel out on the road about every two months so I am happy with how I can separate the two in order to lift them in or out of the truck bed.Extremely easy to install, less than 5 minutes. I am totally satisfied with this product.

Review from a similar Elite Series in Gooseneck

My Reese Elite 5th wheel hitch arrived UPS. 143lbs and used a hand dolly to take off the truck and wheel to my garage. Came packaged ok. Pre-assembled and everything was included. Read the Manual, which for older people helps, showing lube and parts, install info etc...referring back to the manual/instructions. Used a wooden table(same height as my tailgate) to wheel it right up to the gate and slid the hitch on a piece of cardboard(from the box) into the position of the puck system. Moving the base first then the hitch plate next. The hitch install was simple and easy. Did not need any help. I did call customer service and made a slight 1/4 turn adjustment to two legs for a tighter fit. There again referring to the manual/instructions provided with the hitch. Very pleased with the hitch over all. It served its purpose and I believe will give us many years of service. We pull a 5th wheel gvwr of 11769lbs and completed over 1200 miles of safe towing. Pleased with my purchase. Thank you. 159385

Why cant you just place a second larger link through that hoop that your chain hook will fit in?

Review from a similar Elite Series in Gooseneck

I have a 2016 Ford F250. My truck didn't come installed with any hitch equipment other than the stock bumper hitch. I insulted Reese Elite Series rails under the bed and have pulled my 5th wheel just fine since. Recently, I purchased a new 5th wheel trailer and the dealer tossed in an Andersen Ultimate Hitch 2. The only problem is that my truck hasn't been equipped with a gooseneck hitch. This product solves that problem, integrates with my current setup, and is incredibly easy to install. Can't wait to test it out on the road this weekend. Here's my current setup: 2016 Ford F250 Air Lift Air Ride System with compressor Reese Elite Rails with Gooseneck Hitch Kit 448210

So far so good. The only problem was finding safety chain hooks that fit the safety hookups. I gave up and used heavy duty d-rings instead.

Review from a similar Elite Series in Gooseneck

I recently purchased a 2016 Ram 3500 with 5th wheel tow package already present on truck. I wanted an additional goose neck product and looked at various suppliers online and found etrailer products offered for sale. After to speaking with Heather who answered all my questions as well as reviewed feedback from customers I chose to go with the Reese gooseneck kit. I received the product within the shipping date provided to me and I went out to install it. It took me all of 3 mins to install with no issues. I did my best to remove, shake and couldn't get them to budge. It took me a total of 5 mins to remove the parts and storing them back under the rear seat. The parts fit perfect, look great as well as we're the cheapest price I could find. Their online video is all the install instructions you need! I will definitely use etrailer in the future. Thanks Heather! 296158

I have owned B&W, Curt and Reese Hitches for 5th wheel trailers. When I recently purchased a toy hauler I needed a heavy duty hitch for the 20,000# load. I decided to spend the extra money and get the Reese because of previous good experience and fitting the installed pucks in my F350. The Reese felt very light when I unpacked it. The parts are all made in China or Mexico. Assembly and installation took 25 min. The release mechanism feels cheap. It is difficult to make sure the pin is fully seated in the hitch. 2x it looked seated and I was able to install the locking pin and the trailer came out of the hitch! I always do a test pull in forward and reverse before pulling out onto the road. First time it came out I caught it on the test pull, second time it looked good w the test pull but 30' down the driveway it came out and crushed my bedside and tailgate. I would recommend the B &W or Curt before buying the more expensive but inferior Reese. 397426

  • 5 Puck System For 2015 Ford F-350 Super Duty and Slider Hitch
For a 5 puck system in the 2015 Ford F-350, I recommend Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Ford Super Duty part # RP30138-26 which will give the same thing as an OEM puck system with the removable gooseneck ball in the middle. The removable 2-5/16" ball and safety chain loops are included. I have attached an installation video for your reference. Since the Reese Elite Puck system holes are in the same exact location as Fords OEM puck system, I recommend to use the...

  • Comparing Goose Box to 5th Wheel Pin Box and Hitch Regarding Articulation and Capacity
The Reese Goose Box # RP94720 has an integrated air back and shock system that will help on rough terrain. It works very much the same as some pin boxes like the Trailair Flex Air- 21,000 lbs # RP94720 . The issue you will find is that your trailer weight given is greater than the pin boxes we carry. The Goose Box is only rated for 20K and our pin boxes max at 21K. For the capacity you are seeking, I recommend the Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch- 25,000 lbs # C16180 which has a...

  • Reese Elite Series # RP30138-26 Underbed Fifth Wheel Rails/Gooseneck Hitch for 2014 Ford F250 Diesel
I wanted to make sure the DEF tank on your Diesel wouldn't cause fit issues, and Reese assured me that the Reese Underbed Install Rail Kit, part # RP30138-26 is indeed compatible with your 2014 Ford F250. If your friend's fifth wheel hitch fits the pucks provided by the Ford prep package, it'll fit the pucks provided by the # RP30138-26 you asked about. For wiring, I'd recommend the Hopkins Endurance # 41157. The wiring harness would plug inline with the wiring harness feeding the...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch to Use with Reese Elite Under-Bed Gooseneck on 2012 Ford F-350
The Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # RP30138-26 referenced in your question, which is confirmed to fit your 2012 Ford F-350 with the 8 foot bed, can also be used to mount the Reese Elite line of 5th wheel hitches. For this I recommend the Reese Elite 18K # RP30142 or the higher rated # RP30871 that has a 26,500 pound towing weight capacity. These are excellent 5th wheel hitches that feature a forged single-piece jaw that completely wraps around the king pin for...

Reese Elite Series 5th wheel installation kit with gooseneck hitch # RP30138-26 only fits up to the 2016 Ford F-350 and will not fit a 2017 but there are other options for the 2017 for both a gooseneck hitch and underbed 5th wheel install kit. The good news is whether you have a 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive, long bed or short bed application you can use the same kit from B&W part # BWGNRK1116-5W. This is an underbed gooseneck hitch that accepts the Companion hitch, # BWRVK3400-5W this...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a 2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty Towing a 36 ft Layton Toy Hauler
Anytime you have the choice between a gooseneck hitch and a fifth wheel hitch to pull a fifth wheel trailer, I always recommend a fifth wheel hitch. The fifth wheel hitch will provide more clearance between your truck and trailer, especially when making sharp turns with your truck. The fifth wheel hitch will also provide more stability for the truck and trailer when towing. With a fifth wheel hitch, the king pin on the trailer can attach directly to the hitch. With a gooseneck hitch,...

  • Is there Enough Clearance on a Short Bed Truck to Make Tight Turns with a Gooseneck Trailer
With a short bed truck, you may need to go with a gooseneck ball with an offset if there is one available for the hitch you have. This will give you extra clearance when making tight turns. To determine if you can safely make tight turns, there is a formula you can follow. Measure the distance from the center of the gooseneck ball to the back of the truck cab. Call this measurement A. Next, measure the width of the trailer overhang and divide by 2 to get half, measurement B. If A is...

Measuring is going to be very important when determining the safest way to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a gooseneck hitch on your 2003 Ford F-350 short bed truck. The first step is to make sure that your fifth wheel trailer can be used with an adapter. Some fifth wheel manufactures state not to. • Is There Truck Bed Drilling to Install Reese Elite Fifth Wheel Rail Kit RP30128-26
You are correct that there is truck bed drilling required to install the part # RP30138-26. I apologize for any confusion that caused. That is meant to indicate that there is no frame drilling to install the rail kit since that is much more difficult than through the bed and some consider truck bed drilling a given since a gooseneck ball has to come through it somehow.
