To remove the ball from this hitch, just lift and turn the lever that is built into the top of the ball. This will disengage the ball bearings in the shank so that you can easily lift the ball out of the hole.

Magent Cover

Once you've removed the ball, use the magnetic cover to conceal the ball hole. This cover prevents dirt and debris from getting into the ball hole. This will prevent buildup that could cause the ball to seize up in the hitch.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Ram 2500

Today on our 2016 Ram 2500 we're going to show you how to install the Hide-A-Goose Custom Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch. This has a twenty thousand pound rating. It's part number is 9467. Here's what our Hide-A-Goose is going to look like fully installed. As you can see we've got our two and five sixteenths inch ball that's going to stick up here and our safety chain connection points are all we're really going to see when we're ready to tow. This two and five sixteenths inch ball is going to offer us a five thousand pound tongue weight rating.

That's the maximum downward force we can put here on our ball. It's going to offer a twenty thousand pound gross trailer weight rating. That's going to be the total of our trailer and then anything that we've got loaded into it. When we get to our destination, we're ready to unhook or if we just need access to our bed, we just simply pull up on the black tab, rotate it, that's going to allow us to slide our ball right out. You'll notice we've got a round ball that's going to go into a round socket. This is going to give us reduced noise because we've got a tighter fit there.

It's also going to reduce any wear and tear that we might have from something that would be kind of comparable, like a square ball and socket situation. Draw-Tite's also provided a cover we just put right down over that. That's going to keep dirt, debris, and stuff like that from getting down into the ball socket itself. The Hide-A-Goose is made to fit your factory connection points to customize design for each different application. It's going to use factory holes that are already existing so we don't have to worry about doing any excess drilling on the vehicle itself. Safety chain connection points are going to pull up, nice and easy.

As you can see they're on a spring return. That spring is going to keep them from kind of moving around or flopping around as we're heading down the road again. Reducing the noise, increasing that passenger comfort. We won't have to hear it all the time. All right, here's what's going to come in our Hide-A-Goose kit. Of course we've got our main Gooseneck brace here in the middle.

We've got the quick remove ball here. As you can see, just pull that out and rotate it. It allows the balls to go inside. Once we've got it down into position we just rotate that and then slightly rotate our ball. Not only is that going to keep it from turning, it'll also keep it in place while we're heading down the road. We're also going to have all the hardware we need to install it. We've got our nut plates here, bolts, we've got some washers, lock washers, nuts, we've got our U-Bolts for our safety chain connection points, the springs we need to keep those functional up and down, we've got four spacer plates, and even a nice cap. One of the first things we're going to take care of is getting the spare tire lowered down and out of position. It's going to give us good room one, so you'll be able to see, and also so we have plenty of room to lift our bracket up into position. We're also going to remove our heat shield here. This just protects our spare from our exhaust. It doesn't say to do this in the instructions, but it's going to make it easier to see, so we're going to go ahead and get it out of the way. We've got the two bolts here to remove and then there's also two right up here on the top that we'll take out. Once that's removed just take it down out of the way. We're going to take a cam buckle strap, we're just going to go underneath the main exhaust tube. We're going to be removing the hangers and this will just provide us with a little support as needed, now we can start pulling the hangers. We're going to have two located on top of the exhaust pipe here. One here and one here, and then there's also going to be one back on the tailpipe. Use a little bit of spray lubricant and then we just pry them off. What we're going to do is take a three quarter inch hole saw, it's going to have a quarter inch bit in it, and we want to drill that using the large hole here in the bottom as a guide. However you want to do it, we just want to be sure that we've got that centered. All right, now all we're doing here is just poking through. Once we've got it through we can go up top and drill down from there. Here at the top we're going to use the same three and a quarter inch hole saw, go right down through the hole that we just created, and get our hole cut. All right, there's our cut out. What we'll want to do is just kind of clean up that edge, and we're also going to vacuum up. We're going to remove the inner fender liners here, we're going to have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten bolts on each side. As well as one pushpin fastener. Pushpin fastener, I'm going to pop that out first right up here at the top. Start taking our screws out. I'll start working it out of position here. That should give us the room we need, if we let that hang right over the top of our tire to get our nut plates right up here into position. We'll go over to the driver side and do that exact same thing. It's time to get our nut plates installed on both sides. Basically these are going to sit right below the bed of the truck, right above the frame. There's going to be a hump here, it's going to go right up on top of that. We're going to do this on both sides of the vehicle, only on the driver side we need to go all over the wire harness that's right here, just do the same thing on the other side. We're going to slide that plate over into position and we want to line up the two nuts that are in it with the two holes that exist right here in the bottom. We're going to get our head lifted into position. Once we've got it locked into position, we want to go ahead and take out each of our bolts individually, we're going to put our plate on, and then thread it right back in. I find it's a lot easier to do that after you've got that in place rather than trying to hold that up and get them in place all at the same time. We'll just do that for the three remaining fasteners. We'll go through and torque down each of our bolts to specification. We'll find those listed in our instructions. Do that for the other two on the remaining side. We're going to use an eleven sixteenths inch drill bit and we're going to use it to mark the center of each of our four holes. We've got the two, we've got one located here and here, and then the same spot here on the passenger side. What that's going to do is give us a nice point up there that we can use for our drill bits and step up to the appropriate size. All right, with those marked, we'll grab our three sixteenths inch bit and put a hole up through all four locations. All right, now we just do it for the three other remaining locations there. With those four holes drilled out let's go ahead and take our five eighths drill bit, this time we're going from the top down through. We're ready to take our U-Bolts, and we're going to drop them right down through the holes we just created, and we can go underneath and put on the springs, washers, and nuts. On each of our threads that come down from the top, we're going to slide on our spring, and we've got a flat washer that goes on, we're going to follow that up with one of the locking nuts. The indentions will go towards the bottom. Do that for each of the four locations here. We just want to check, make sure we have nice, smooth, easy operation, which we do on that one, so we'll do this one, now that we've confirmed that they're going to move freely up and down, we'll go ahead and tighten down our nuts and we want to have three threads showing below them. The good news is at this point, we're done installing that Gooseneck. We just need to get everything put back together at this point. For the fender wells to line back up, we need to bend our handle out of the way, just a pair pliers there, hold it, bend it up. Try to bend it enough to where we won't have any contact with metal. You can imagine as we're heading down the road, that's not something that we're going to want to hear, so kind of flex it up where we won't have to deal with it. You can also completely remove them, if you decide to go that route. Start working our fender back into position here. Grab our fasteners and start putting them back in. Last thing we'll need to do is slide that, all right. I'm going to head over and do the same exact thing for our driver side. We're ready to get our exhaust hangers put back into position. It's a good idea to use a little more spray lubricant on it, help it slide on. Once you've got that one slid on all the way we need to go up front and take care of the two that we removed there. You want that into position, we'll go ahead and take down our safety strap, and we can put that heat shield back up. We can also put our spare tire back into position. With everything back in place that's going to complete today's installation of the Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose Custom Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, part number 9467 on our 2016 Ram 2500.

Fit and finish was good, Easy to install. After on year of use I have no issues. I live in the north east, so I added additional undercoating to protect the hitch from the roads salt. 250413

Product is a great fit for my 2016 Ram 2500. The installation videos are dead on which allowed me to install the hitch myself. DIY savings was approx. $125. Tip: In addition to bending the wire on the nut plates, use plastic zip ties to secure the wires. This will absolutely prevent any rattling noise. 400447

Went in relatively easy, relative because I did this by myself (at 72) without removing anything except a small bracket above the pumpkin. Just used a piece of all-thread (for the length) down through the bed and the hitch to hold it up to attach the bolts. Everything fit perfectly and it is easier with two people and removing half of the truck but I've always hated taking things loose if I don't have to, and besides, it was a challenge. Sprayed any bare metal with Trim (flat black) spray that matches the sprayed in bed liner perfectly. Biggest pain was having to buy both the hole saw and drill bit despite having an extensive (but obviously not complete) collection of both types. This is my first gooseneck that didn't have the turnover ball type, but it looks to be superior since you have to climb in the bed anyway to flip the ball and I've had problems with the ball freezing in place after having not been used in a while. 606582

This is the second Hide a Goose hitch that I have installed. Once you have lowered your spare tire the hitch goes in smoothly and relatively easily. This hitch went in on my 3500 dually in the morning and was being used by lunch, I have never had a problem with my other truck with the same style hitch, and if I buy another truck this will be the brand that I buy again. 238947

While initially I was frustrated with what was potentially going to be super slow shipping, the customer service at etrailer was fantastic. We ended up getting the hitch we ordered in a timely fashion and it came with easy to use instructions. The worst part was trying to cut the hole in the bed of the truck, but ended up working out fine. thank you etrailer! Excellent customer service. 553194

Pretty good hitch, I’ve had and installed several gooseneck hitches and this one wasn’t bad to install. It’s well built and appears to exceed my trucks towing capacity, I advise to go ahead and lift the back of the bed up at least 2” to make it easier to install and align the hitch. I installed this on a 2018 GMC 2500 HD. 575037

The box for the installation brackets was busted up (I blame the shipping company for that), but all parts were there. The hitch and brackets are very well made and went easy, but it did take a little longer than I expected. I am planning on putting another gooseneck hitch on another truck I have and will definantely use etrailer again. etrailer had the best price, it came quickly, and they handle quality products. 390721

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose in Gooseneck

Hitch performs well. Nice heavy duty steel. I have 4 star bc the measurement for the hitch wasn't quite right on my truck. From end of bed to center was about an 1/8" off. I had to cut out some extra on the cab side of the bed. Once that was done it was perfect. The magnet Drawtite supplies is just pathetic. I threw it away and made my own cover. As far as performance and ease of use I would recommend. There is a YouTube video etrailer has that is also very helpful. I referred to it a couple of times the instructions didn't make sense or I just wanted to check direction and that I was using the proper bolts. In one part the instructions say to use a washer but in the video they do not. I chose to go without. If you just want a good reliable gooseneck hitch for a few $$ less this is the one. 433787

The only reason this product got 1 star is because I had to give it one star to rate it! Stupid system. The product I bought was the (Cequent) Draw-Tite 9460-48 gooseneck hitch. This is the worse product I ever bought. It is rated on everyone's website as having a 30,000 lb capacity. When you get the hitch you see all of these stickers on it saying DO NOT EXCEED 22,000 LBS. Initially the manufacturer said it was a mistake: they put the wrong stickers on it. When asked for new 30,000 lb stickers they admitted it was only rated for 22,000 lbs. I won't buy any Cequent Products ever. Or any of the Brand Names they sell. Draw_Tite is one of their brands. 315874

Fast shipping. Everything fit perfect. Hardest thing is fishing bolts up through box frame. Need to use two screwdrivers to keep up off of bottom of frame. I installed by myself in 3-4 hours. 2 people could do it in 2. Second gooseneck hitch I have gotten from Etrailer. Will get next one frim them. I highly recommend. 166295

Easy install once you get past the kinda confusing drawings. The safety hooks are pretty short, I just have the nuts flush with threads but can't get the hooks under them. I will have to look for longer ones. Took 3 hrs to install with having to remove hard tonneau cover and bed liner and reinstalling and clean up. Thought it would be worse!! The isolation tape they send with the hitch is kind of cheesy, hopefully it works. Was a great price! 435890

Hitch works great, no problems with the ball or linkages freezing up. Everything seems good. Have used it to pull a cattle trailer 12+ times this year.

My son and I bought the Hide-a-Goose set up for his 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab. The shipping of the 111 lbs. packages (came in 2 boxes) was fast! Upon arrival, the instructions were right-on and easy to follow. We took our time and the installation went off without a hitch(pun intended!). We purchased the "no drilling required" kit and the only holes needed were through the truck bed. George kept us updated and we really appreciate the guys at etrailer. I highly recommend their products and would most definitely buy from etrailer again! Thanks guys! Leon W. 246677

This hitch is exactly what we needed to pull our camper. Worked great, but not the easiest to install, especially using the instructions that come with the hitch. After watching a YouTube video, which gave a much better understanding, I was able to install the hitch with a better idea of what I was doing. Do to the lack of written instructions I am giving this a 4 star instead of a 5 star. 418586

The customer service was spectacular which is great to find nowadays. The hitch I had a couple issues with however. Issue 1 was the the u-bolts for the safety chains are to short. I hooked up my trailer jumped in the back and couldn't get the chains in the loops without taking the nuts off the bolts putting on the chains and having my girlfriend push them down while i put the nuts on (I have a plastic bedliner which might have been the main issue here). Issue 2 is that online it says that I can tow 30,000lbs with this hitch. However when this hitch came in it said in multiple places in the mounting kit not to exceed 17,000lbs which makes me kind of nervous since I have to pull some heavy loads On the bright side though the hitch installed easier then i thought it would and I found etrailers YouTube video very helpful for it. I used it to pull a 13,000lb trailer this weekend and had no issues with it I'd probably buy this hitch again just because it's significantly cheaper then the blue ox and b&w hitches but I'd like them fix the above mentioned issues 386546

Good hitch. Love the drop and lock ball way more than my old hide-a-goose turnover ball. Installed it myself and only had to unbolt the brake like bracket. Left spare tire and exhaust in place. Put the ball in the center piece and slid it up and had my neighbor hold it by the ball while I put the conicals and nuts on. 519709

Hitch seems to be built fairly well as far as the head and rail kit. The side plates for the frame are not even as thick as my frame rail. Didn't like that. Also a major turn off to this hitch, on my truck, a 2001 dodge 2500 short bed, the carriage bolts that hold the head to the rails, the heads hit the bed floor, enough to where the bed does not sit flush on the frame. 4 1 inch holes had to be drilled in the bed to let the bolt heads through. Also used a hare bigger hole saw than 3.5 to give some wiggle room. But the bolts hitting the floor needs to be addressed by draw tite. Wouldn't recommend for a dodge pickup 191838

It took me about a year to get around to putting it in... I didn't have to take out the exhaust like the video says. I have a 2012 short bed Cummins 4x4. Getting the bars in is fascinating. Everything is super heavy so you'll need help for sure. 564042

I have bought from etrailer for many years now. Many hitches from a 2005 Toyota highlander hitch and wiring, to a 2012 Chrysler town and country hitch and wiring, brake controller to my most recent one a 2008 dodge ram mega cab gooseneck hitch. Every part I have bought have fit without any modification. The YouTube videos are specially helpful. I've recieved my shipment a few days ago which was way faster then I expected. Today i woke up ready to install it, I read the instructions and watched the YouTube video went under my truck bed and started working on it. I did mess up on the hole for the ball but that was my oops. Very satisfied. 501465

Excellent product, easy to follow directions. Videos was great help. Installers in videos make it seem a simple install. I would say if you haven't installed one before it will most likely take more time than expected. Take your time and follow directions step by step. Some unexpected encounters with my truck was a plastic channel than ran along bottom of wheel wheels on both sides that had wiring running thur them. Had to lower to install fasteners. The cross members have threaded studs on end that are painted. Take a wire brush and remove paint from the studs so nuts will go on easy. 57665

The product itself seems to be ok, my main problem was with the installation instructions, namely the measurement as to where to drill the hole in the bed of a 2008 Ford F250 crew cab diesel short bed. I first watched and used etrailer.com's video instructions where they installed this same hitch on a 2008 Ford F250 diesel just like mine so I thought it would be pretty accurate. Well it was except for the most important part, the measurement as to where to drill the hole in the bed. On the video it said drill at 47 7/8". I should have double checked the instructions from draw-tite but felt etrailer's video would be correct. It wasn't though. After drilling the hole and realizing it was off I looked at draw-tite's instructions which said drill hole at 46 3/16" so luckily I was able to use the hole saw again to very carefully drill a hole at 46 3/16" only to find out on my truck this was wrong also as it was too short! I was able to make it work by trimming the edges where the two holes met and so now I have an oval hole instead of a circle. I measured the center of the hole after installing it and I should have drilled the hole at around 46 5/8". If I was to do it again I would have installed the plate under the bed and tightened it up and marked on the underside of the bed the center of the hole. Then removed the hitch plate and used a punch or small drill bit to drill up from bottom of bed to mark center of hole. Just make sure you know where the center is before you drill and don't just rely on the measurement given in the instructions. Luckily this was not a new truck with a nice bed and I had a plastic bedliner that covered up my mistake! Probably should have went with the B&W my buddy installed in his truck with no problems! 160419

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose in Gooseneck

Very pleased with the simple design. I Choose this hitch based on the cross bar and frame plate design. It looked easier to install than some other brands, and it was, a simple painless install. The cross bars easily slipped over the frame rails and under the pickup bed without a fus. The cross bars have threaded ends built in (like bolts welded in the corners of the angle steel) that allow you to loosely hang the side brackets off the cross rails while getting everything fitted. (so you don't need 3 hands) The U-Bolts for the frame rail helps avoid having to drill holes in the frame for additional bolts. The ball design has good clearances to the pocket so this ball should not be getting rusted in place. The simple spring loaded pin lock for the ball also has good clearances and just pulls straight in and out of the ball to lock and unlock from the wheel well handle. Flipping the ball over to "hide away" means the bed can still be free and clear for loading materials. Cutting the 3.5" hole in the bed was made simple by accurate easy measurement instructions and a readily available hole saw from the hardware store. The carriage bolt hardware means you don't need a wrench on the backside of the bolt when tightening the nuts. Great Product, excellent design, easy to install and use. 431243

Ordered the hide a ball gooseneck hitch I had it in 4 business days with the free shipping, and if that wasn't good enough I found a cheaper priced hitch on another site after I bought it, and etrailer refunded me the difference plus 5% and lowered the price online so that the customers are getting the best bang for the buck with hands down the best customer service I have encountered yet. As far as the hitch goes it comes with plenty of instructions and all the hardware and took a buddy and I 2 hours from start to finish to complete. Great product, great service 168992

Very please with the customer service and the hitch! I called etrailer.com to verify the hitch would fit my 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 dually, as I wasn't entirely sure the application was the same for a standard bed and a dually. Lindy was extremely helpful, and I was able to place my order with her right over the phone. The hitch arrived on time, and I was able to install it with no significant problems. I say 'significant problems', as the custom exhaust installed by the previous owner was in the way, but that's a problem with my truck, not the hitch. A recommendation: get a computer, or tablet, or phone, and use the video for installation. The video was (by far!) the best explanation on how to install the hitch. I used both the video and the written instructions, and occasionally the written instructions made me scratch my head. The video immediately cleared up any confusion. A word of caution, though, don't throw out the written instructions. They have the measuring distance for drilling the holes in the bed and the torque specs for the bolts. The whole installation took about four hours, from pulling the truck into the garage to putting everything away after installing the hitch. Most of that time was trying to maneuver around the non-standard exhaust, though. If my truck had the factory exhaust, I figure it would have been about two to two and a half hours for installation. The only tool I had to get was the correct size hole saw for drilling out the bed to install the ball. Everything else in the installation just requires basic hand tools and a decent socket set. Overall, it was an easy installation, and a great product. I would highly recommend this hitch, and will purchase it again if, or when, I get another truck. 504530

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose in Gooseneck

Decent hitch, not the first Draw-Tite product I've used. Designed well, plenty of room for adjustment built into the slots and holes of the parts. It's built heavier than I will ever be able to tow with my '07 Tundra. We're buying a 25 foot fifth wheel camper with a gooseneck adapter. Gooseneck hitches are supposed to be better for driving off road, which is a big plus for me. I have over 1000 feet of rutted gravel road and driveway to get the camper to our little retreat in the woods! I haven't towed the camper yet, but I will add comments when I do! It would have been easier to install with a lift versus working from a creeper, but it still only took four hours! I'm sure it would have been easier on a new truck as well, not as much rust! The drawing and instructions were good, but could have explained which bolts went where a bit better. I did figure it out after a bit. Worst part was fixing all the other stuff that I found when I rolled under the truck! Only negative is the magnetic "cap" to keep the dirt out. Ridiculous! It's a refrigerator magnet! Why put that cheap thing in with such a heavy duty piece of equipment? I will figure something out to cover the hitch and plug the hole in the bed. 391215

Comments

Had to remove the hitch when I had the frame replaced on my Tundra, so I had to install the hitch again! The hitch is in great shape after about 2500 miles of pulling a 6000 pound trailer. It works as advertised, was a good price, and got shipped fairly quick. If youre even slightly mechanically adept, you should have no problems with the install. Even if youre not that handy, watch videos online to figure it out! As far as the cheap magnetic cap, I found a large freeze plug and painted it black to match the bed lining! Works great!

Once I finally got it in there it works great. This thing was a serious pain to put in by myself and I have good tools, a nice garage and it was still a pain. The measurement the directions gives for your hole was off by about a 1/2” for me. That’s why you drill a small hole first to make sure it’s centered. I had the hitch brackets tight to the bed crossmember and the measurement was still off. Other than being a little time consuming to put in it works great. I just wish they’d give you the option to upgrade to the offset ball at a discounted price. 654448

I couldn't have picked a better hitch for the price! I took it to a local business (Carolina welders, Laurinburg NC) and it took him only an hour to install and it installed perfectly! In two days I had my horse trailer hooked to it and I haven't had an issue since! And when I'm not hauling a trailer I easily flip the ball and I slide my dogbox in! I was skeptic about ordering but I do not regret my decision ANY!!! Love this hitch! 651717

In the words of Ace Ventura - Pet Detective... Like a Glove! I was in UPS delivery zone 1 - which was suppose to be 1 day delivery.... Boom - Nailed it. Got it when they said I would. I'm sure the manual says this some place but don't forget to wear safety googles! (not to be confused with the interweb search giant). My rustyish pup potty trained me in the eye before I said "self..." Anywho- i pooched my shopping cart order by originally ordering 2 of this hitches- only needed one. Called customer service and to my surprise- I got service! The super awesome representative only shipped 1 and credited my account and still got the order out the door in time for the UPS commitment. Will order again from these professionals again. Thank you etrailer!! 643630

Called him several times with questions and they were answered. I have not had time to install, but not expecting any problems. At this time I would recomend this product 638667

The product arrived in about 2 days. When my husband opened it and went through the parts with the diagram he noticed that 2 carriage bolts were missing and had to go to Menard's to purchase them to complete the assembly. I sent an email about this matter to customer service. Other than that I was very pleased with the Draw-Tite hitch and ease of ordering and of course the free shipping! 638647

Good product and works well. Only downside is that it takes two people to turn over the ball or you have to tie the release lever in the open position. 634745

  • Can the Reese Goose Box be Used on a Short Bed 2016 Ram 2500
  • The correct Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter for a Lippert 1621 pin box is part # RP94716 for 16,000 lbs or part # RP94720 for 20,000 lbs. With that being said, it is not recommend to use the Reese Goose Box on a short bed truck due to limited turning clearance. They do make an offset gooseneck ball adapter for the Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch part # 9467 on your 2016 Ram 2500, the 5" Offset Ball part # 19308 but this still is more than likely...

  • We do have several gooseneck hitch options for your 2017 Ram 2500 with 6-foot bed and without the factory rail kit that you can see on the linked page. All of these hitches from B&W, Curt and Draw-Tite include the 2-5/16-inch hitch ball and all offer no-drill installation. I would go for either the B&W or the Curt since both offer the higher 30K weight capacity than the Draw-Tite # 9467. • Can the Reese Goose Box Adapters Height be Adjusted
  • You are correct. The Reese Goose Boxes, including # RP94716-61301, adjust vertically where they mount to the trailer only. There is no other height adjustment on it. With a gooseneck hitch height isn't normally an issue unless the hitch is in a flatbed truck or a lifted truck which would be taller than a regular stock pickup truck. • Gooseneck or 5th Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2016 Ram and Grand Design 5th Wheel Trailer
  • I looked up the BDS lift kit and it is a suspension lift which is good because that means the truck bed and frame are still the same distance apart from each other so you can install a hitch in the bed. If towing a 5th wheel trailer you will want a 5th wheel hitch but given your situation I do have a recommendation that will work as long as the 5th wheel trailer has the tapered front end for short bed trucks and as long as it has a pin box that is compatible with a Reese Goose Box.
