Image of truck bed with hitch ball installed

Even with the ball installed, this gooseneck trailer hitch takes up very little space in your truck bed. The rail system and head unit are mounted beneath your bed. Only a 3-1/2" hole is required for the ball hole opening. Even the safety-chain holders sit flush against your truck-bed floor so as to take up as little room as possible.

Image of truck bed with hitch ball flipped over for storage

When not in use, the ball can be flipped over and inserted back into the hitch for storage. The low-profile design of the sleeve ensures uninhibited truck-bed access when you're carrying other gear.

The ball hole can be covered with the included magnet to help keep out dirt and debris.

Handle accessible in wheel well

The heavy-duty handle with reinforced locking pin holds the ball in place and is easily accessible from the wheel well. To store the ball, simply pull the handle and twist it to secure in the open position. Then remove the ball, flip it over, and slide it upside down back into the hitch. Rotate the handle in the wheel well back to its starting position, and the stowed ball will be secure.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Gooseneck - Below the Bed - 9465-40 Review

Today were going to review part number 9465-40. This is the Draw Tite Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch with the installation kit. This part is designed to fit the 1988 to 2000 Chevrolet and GMC C and K Series pickup trucks with the 6 -foot bed or the 8-foot bed. This gooseneck trailer hitch is perfect for your heavy duty towing needs, has an underbed design which will insure full access to your truck bed. Only the ball and these spring-loaded safety chain loops are visible in the truck bed when the hitch is set up to tow. This hitch ball can be stored upside down in the bed when not in use.

Just use this magnetic cover. Once you flip it up you can put this over. It keeps any dirt and grime from getting in by the hitch ball. Now you do have convenient access to this durable handle right here. This handle will allow you to easily engage and disengage the hitch ball.

You will access this handle through the wheel well on the drivers side of the vehicle. So right now it is engaged so the balls locked into place. If you pull this handle out move it to the side, theres a little latch or a notch that it would hook on to. You can pull out the hitch ball then. This is a 2 5/16-size hitch ball.

Now the nice thing about this as you can see, it has a round shank and a round sleeve that it fits into. This will provide a tighter fit than the square design goosenecks. That will help reduce the rattle and helps the durability of the hitch itself. So basically what youll do is if youll notice theres a alignment slot on this one side and that helps you. Theres a pin if youll notice right on the inside here over here, so this alignment slot would have to line up with this pin to fit down in there.

If you happen to have it turned the other way, that pin will keep it from going all the way down. So if you want to store it, just go ahead and line that alignment slot up, drop it all the way down. Youll see its out of the way. Engage that. That will lock that into place. Take your magnetic cover put it right over there and its all covered up out of the way. You have full access to your truck bed. Now this kit here is a custom rail kit. Includes the rails right here and the outer outside brackets that fit on the trucks frame rails. This is designed specifically for your vehicle so theres no drilling, welding, or bed removal required. The pieces are all a black powder coat finished steel which is sturdy and corrosion resistant. Now the head which is this part right here installs to these rails using these four 5/8-inch diameter Grade A carriage bolts. Now the head unit itself is rated at 30,000 pounds gross towing weight capacity. Has a 7,500 pound vertical load limit. Now on the rails and the brackets, what youll want to do is they are rated to meet the vehicles manufacturers tow rating. So if you look in your vehicles owners manual these rails and brackets will match that tow rating. A few installation tips when you install this you will need to cut a 3 -inch diameter hole in the truck bed for this hitch ball and four 9/16-diameter holes for these safety chain u-bolts. This does come with a limited lifetime warranty and again just to show you if youre ready to hook up your gooseneck, all youll do is take off your cover. Cant pull up on it until you release it so if you pull out, disengage the handle, pull up on your hitch ball, flip it over, drop it into place, engage the handle, youre all locked into place ready to be hooked up to your gooseneck simple as that. That should do it for the review on part number 9465-40 the Draw Tite Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch with the installation kit.

While initially I was frustrated with what was potentially going to be super slow shipping, the customer service at etrailer was fantastic. We ended up getting the hitch we ordered in a timely fashion and it came with easy to use instructions. The worst part was trying to cut the hole in the bed of the truck, but ended up working out fine. thank you etrailer! Excellent customer service. 553194

The box for the installation brackets was busted up (I blame the shipping company for that), but all parts were there. The hitch and brackets are very well made and went easy, but it did take a little longer than I expected. I am planning on putting another gooseneck hitch on another truck I have and will definantely use etrailer again. etrailer had the best price, it came quickly, and they handle quality products. 390721

Product is a great fit for my 2016 Ram 2500. The installation videos are dead on which allowed me to install the hitch myself. DIY savings was approx. $125. Tip: In addition to bending the wire on the nut plates, use plastic zip ties to secure the wires. This will absolutely prevent any rattling noise. 400447

My son and I bought the Hide-a-Goose set up for his 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab. The shipping of the 111 lbs. packages (came in 2 boxes) was fast! Upon arrival, the instructions were right-on and easy to follow. We took our time and the installation went off without a hitch(pun intended!). We purchased the "no drilling required" kit and the only holes needed were through the truck bed. George kept us updated and we really appreciate the guys at etrailer. I highly recommend their products and would most definitely buy from etrailer again! Thanks guys! Leon W. 246677

Pretty good hitch, I’ve had and installed several gooseneck hitches and this one wasn’t bad to install. It’s well built and appears to exceed my trucks towing capacity, I advise to go ahead and lift the back of the bed up at least 2” to make it easier to install and align the hitch. I installed this on a 2018 GMC 2500 HD. 575037

This hitch is exactly what we needed to pull our camper. Worked great, but not the easiest to install, especially using the instructions that come with the hitch. After watching a YouTube video, which gave a much better understanding, I was able to install the hitch with a better idea of what I was doing. Do to the lack of written instructions I am giving this a 4 star instead of a 5 star. 418586

Fast shipping. Everything fit perfect. Hardest thing is fishing bolts up through box frame. Need to use two screwdrivers to keep up off of bottom of frame. I installed by myself in 3-4 hours. 2 people could do it in 2. Second gooseneck hitch I have gotten from Etrailer. Will get next one frim them. I highly recommend. 166295

Easy install once you get past the kinda confusing drawings. The safety hooks are pretty short, I just have the nuts flush with threads but can't get the hooks under them. I will have to look for longer ones. Took 3 hrs to install with having to remove hard tonneau cover and bed liner and reinstalling and clean up. Thought it would be worse!! The isolation tape they send with the hitch is kind of cheesy, hopefully it works. Was a great price! 435890

Hitch performs well. Nice heavy duty steel. I have 4 star bc the measurement for the hitch wasn't quite right on my truck. From end of bed to center was about an 1/8" off. I had to cut out some extra on the cab side of the bed. Once that was done it was perfect. The magnet Drawtite supplies is just pathetic. I threw it away and made my own cover. As far as performance and ease of use I would recommend. There is a YouTube video etrailer has that is also very helpful. I referred to it a couple of times the instructions didn't make sense or I just wanted to check direction and that I was using the proper bolts. In one part the instructions say to use a washer but in the video they do not. I chose to go without. If you just want a good reliable gooseneck hitch for a few $$ less this is the one. 433787

Good hitch. Love the drop and lock ball way more than my old hide-a-goose turnover ball. Installed it myself and only had to unbolt the brake like bracket. Left spare tire and exhaust in place. Put the ball in the center piece and slid it up and had my neighbor hold it by the ball while I put the conicals and nuts on. 519709

The only reason this product got 1 star is because I had to give it one star to rate it! Stupid system. The product I bought was the (Cequent) Draw-Tite 9460-48 gooseneck hitch. This is the worse product I ever bought. It is rated on everyone's website as having a 30,000 lb capacity. When you get the hitch you see all of these stickers on it saying DO NOT EXCEED 22,000 LBS. Initially the manufacturer said it was a mistake: they put the wrong stickers on it. When asked for new 30,000 lb stickers they admitted it was only rated for 22,000 lbs. I won't buy any Cequent Products ever. Or any of the Brand Names they sell. Draw_Tite is one of their brands. 315874

I have bought from etrailer for many years now. Many hitches from a 2005 Toyota highlander hitch and wiring, to a 2012 Chrysler town and country hitch and wiring, brake controller to my most recent one a 2008 dodge ram mega cab gooseneck hitch. Every part I have bought have fit without any modification. The YouTube videos are specially helpful. I've recieved my shipment a few days ago which was way faster then I expected. Today i woke up ready to install it, I read the instructions and watched the YouTube video went under my truck bed and started working on it. I did mess up on the hole for the ball but that was my oops. Very satisfied. 501465

Ordered the hide a ball gooseneck hitch I had it in 4 business days with the free shipping, and if that wasn't good enough I found a cheaper priced hitch on another site after I bought it, and etrailer refunded me the difference plus 5% and lowered the price online so that the customers are getting the best bang for the buck with hands down the best customer service I have encountered yet. As far as the hitch goes it comes with plenty of instructions and all the hardware and took a buddy and I 2 hours from start to finish to complete. Great product, great service 168992

Very please with the customer service and the hitch! I called etrailer.com to verify the hitch would fit my 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 dually, as I wasn't entirely sure the application was the same for a standard bed and a dually. Lindy was extremely helpful, and I was able to place my order with her right over the phone. The hitch arrived on time, and I was able to install it with no significant problems. I say 'significant problems', as the custom exhaust installed by the previous owner was in the way, but that's a problem with my truck, not the hitch. A recommendation: get a computer, or tablet, or phone, and use the video for installation. The video was (by far!) the best explanation on how to install the hitch. I used both the video and the written instructions, and occasionally the written instructions made me scratch my head. The video immediately cleared up any confusion. A word of caution, though, don't throw out the written instructions. They have the measuring distance for drilling the holes in the bed and the torque specs for the bolts. The whole installation took about four hours, from pulling the truck into the garage to putting everything away after installing the hitch. Most of that time was trying to maneuver around the non-standard exhaust, though. If my truck had the factory exhaust, I figure it would have been about two to two and a half hours for installation. The only tool I had to get was the correct size hole saw for drilling out the bed to install the ball. Everything else in the installation just requires basic hand tools and a decent socket set. Overall, it was an easy installation, and a great product. I would highly recommend this hitch, and will purchase it again if, or when, I get another truck. 504530

Great product at a great price! I measured out the 3.5" hole location as the directions said for a 8 ft bed on my 2010 Ram 3500 4X4 quad cab. I drilled the hole and deburred, Removed the rear fender well panels and proceded to slide the rails over the chasis. I had to bend the steel flange where the bed is put together during fabrication to have enough room to fit the rail between the bed and the chasis. This was only done on one side in one location. The rails slid right in and I continued on with the install. It was a little hard by myself but I managed. I did not have a lift and was lying on my back under the truck half the time. I did not have to remove my rear tires, raise the bed or remove exhaust to install. I did notice that I could have drilled the 3.5" hole about 3/8" to 1/4" less than the specified distance for perfect alignment on the chasis but all worked out well and it tows great! I'm very satisfied with my hitch and the experience with Etrailer, Thanks Etrailer! 182288

Very pleased with the simple design. I Choose this hitch based on the cross bar and frame plate design. It looked easier to install than some other brands, and it was, a simple painless install. The cross bars easily slipped over the frame rails and under the pickup bed without a fus. The cross bars have threaded ends built in (like bolts welded in the corners of the angle steel) that allow you to loosely hang the side brackets off the cross rails while getting everything fitted. (so you don't need 3 hands) The U-Bolts for the frame rail helps avoid having to drill holes in the frame for additional bolts. The ball design has good clearances to the pocket so this ball should not be getting rusted in place. The simple spring loaded pin lock for the ball also has good clearances and just pulls straight in and out of the ball to lock and unlock from the wheel well handle. Flipping the ball over to "hide away" means the bed can still be free and clear for loading materials. Cutting the 3.5" hole in the bed was made simple by accurate easy measurement instructions and a readily available hole saw from the hardware store. The carriage bolt hardware means you don't need a wrench on the backside of the bolt when tightening the nuts. Great Product, excellent design, easy to install and use. 431243

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose in Gooseneck

The product itself seems to be ok, my main problem was with the installation instructions, namely the measurement as to where to drill the hole in the bed of a 2008 Ford F250 crew cab diesel short bed. I first watched and used etrailer.com's video instructions where they installed this same hitch on a 2008 Ford F250 diesel just like mine so I thought it would be pretty accurate. Well it was except for the most important part, the measurement as to where to drill the hole in the bed. On the video it said drill at 47 7/8". I should have double checked the instructions from draw-tite but felt etrailer's video would be correct. It wasn't though. After drilling the hole and realizing it was off I looked at draw-tite's instructions which said drill hole at 46 3/16" so luckily I was able to use the hole saw again to very carefully drill a hole at 46 3/16" only to find out on my truck this was wrong also as it was too short! I was able to make it work by trimming the edges where the two holes met and so now I have an oval hole instead of a circle. I measured the center of the hole after installing it and I should have drilled the hole at around 46 5/8". If I was to do it again I would have installed the plate under the bed and tightened it up and marked on the underside of the bed the center of the hole. Then removed the hitch plate and used a punch or small drill bit to drill up from bottom of bed to mark center of hole. Just make sure you know where the center is before you drill and don't just rely on the measurement given in the instructions. Luckily this was not a new truck with a nice bed and I had a plastic bedliner that covered up my mistake! Probably should have went with the B&W my buddy installed in his truck with no problems! 160419

Excellent product, easy to follow directions. Videos was great help. Installers in videos make it seem a simple install. I would say if you haven't installed one before it will most likely take more time than expected. Take your time and follow directions step by step. Some unexpected encounters with my truck was a plastic channel than ran along bottom of wheel wheels on both sides that had wiring running thur them. Had to lower to install fasteners. The cross members have threaded studs on end that are painted. Take a wire brush and remove paint from the studs so nuts will go on easy. 57665

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose in Gooseneck

Decent hitch, not the first Draw-Tite product I've used. Designed well, plenty of room for adjustment built into the slots and holes of the parts. It's built heavier than I will ever be able to tow with my '07 Tundra. We're buying a 25 foot fifth wheel camper with a gooseneck adapter. Gooseneck hitches are supposed to be better for driving off road, which is a big plus for me. I have over 1000 feet of rutted gravel road and driveway to get the camper to our little retreat in the woods! I haven't towed the camper yet, but I will add comments when I do! It would have been easier to install with a lift versus working from a creeper, but it still only took four hours! I'm sure it would have been easier on a new truck as well, not as much rust! The drawing and instructions were good, but could have explained which bolts went where a bit better. I did figure it out after a bit. Worst part was fixing all the other stuff that I found when I rolled under the truck! Only negative is the magnetic "cap" to keep the dirt out. Ridiculous! It's a refrigerator magnet! Why put that cheap thing in with such a heavy duty piece of equipment? I will figure something out to cover the hitch and plug the hole in the bed. 391215

Had to remove the hitch when I had the frame replaced on my Tundra, so I had to install the hitch again! The hitch is in great shape after about 2500 miles of pulling a 6000 pound trailer. It works as advertised, was a good price, and got shipped fairly quick. If youre even slightly mechanically adept, you should have no problems with the install. Even if youre not that handy, watch videos online to figure it out! As far as the cheap magnetic cap, I found a large freeze plug and painted it black to match the bed lining! Works great!

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose in Gooseneck

The customer service was spectacular which is great to find nowadays. The hitch I had a couple issues with however. Issue 1 was the the u-bolts for the safety chains are to short. I hooked up my trailer jumped in the back and couldn't get the chains in the loops without taking the nuts off the bolts putting on the chains and having my girlfriend push them down while i put the nuts on (I have a plastic bedliner which might have been the main issue here). Issue 2 is that online it says that I can tow 30,000lbs with this hitch. However when this hitch came in it said in multiple places in the mounting kit not to exceed 17,000lbs which makes me kind of nervous since I have to pull some heavy loads On the bright side though the hitch installed easier then i thought it would and I found etrailers YouTube video very helpful for it. I used it to pull a 13,000lb trailer this weekend and had no issues with it I'd probably buy this hitch again just because it's significantly cheaper then the blue ox and b&w hitches but I'd like them fix the above mentioned issues 386546

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose in Gooseneck

Hitch seems to be built fairly well as far as the head and rail kit. The side plates for the frame are not even as thick as my frame rail. Didn't like that. Also a major turn off to this hitch, on my truck, a 2001 dodge 2500 short bed, the carriage bolts that hold the head to the rails, the heads hit the bed floor, enough to where the bed does not sit flush on the frame. 4 1 inch holes had to be drilled in the bed to let the bolt heads through. Also used a hare bigger hole saw than 3.5 to give some wiggle room. But the bolts hitting the floor needs to be addressed by draw tite. Wouldn't recommend for a dodge pickup 191838

Great hitch at a very reasonable price. The installation was fairly straightforward but I suggest watching video from E Trailer for a more comprehensive approach. 563987

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose in Gooseneck

Ordered the hitch and brake controller on Friday morning and received them Tuesday afternoon. I purchased a hole saw during the weekend before the hitch arrived. I began installing late that night and finished the following morning. Installation was a breeze and went just as depicted in the videos provided on the website. Great product and great service! Most places were going to charge me $800-1000.00 for a goose-neck hitch, brake controller and installation. etrailer.com saved me several hundreds of dollars! Thanks! 556627

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose in Gooseneck

Went in relatively easy, relative because I did this by myself (at 72) without removing anything except a small bracket above the pumpkin. Just used a piece of all-thread (for the length) down through the bed and the hitch to hold it up to attach the bolts. Everything fit perfectly and it is easier with two people and removing half of the truck but I've always hated taking things loose if I don't have to, and besides, it was a challenge. Sprayed any bare metal with Trim (flat black) spray that matches the sprayed in bed liner perfectly. Biggest pain was having to buy both the hole saw and drill bit despite having an extensive (but obviously not complete) collection of both types. This is my first gooseneck that didn't have the turnover ball type, but it looks to be superior since you have to climb in the bed anyway to flip the ball and I've had problems with the ball freezing in place after having not been used in a while. 606582

  • Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 1998 Chevy K1500 Short Bed Truck
  • We have a couple options for gooseneck trailer hitches that will install under the bed, have a ball that does not flip down but can still be removed, and that will fit your 1998 Chevy K1500 short bed. We have the ever-popular B&W Turnover ball, # BWGNRK1050. And Draw-Tite also has an option, # 9465-40. All 3 of these hitches are rated for 7,500 pound pin weight and 30,000 pounds gross trailer weight. But these figures likely exceed the capacity of your truck so be sure to consult...

I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. The hitch does come with the correct installation kit. You may need a hole saw, # 58381 if you do not already have one.

  • Will the Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Hitch Fit on a 1998 Chevrolet 1500 6-1/2 ft Bed
  • According to Draw-Tite the Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Hitch, # 9465-40, will fit on your 1998 Chevrolet 1500 with the 6-1/2 ft bed as long as it does not have a stepside or flareside bed. We do not have a gooseneck trailer hitch for models with a stepside or flareside bed. I have attached the installation instructions of this hitch for you to check out. • Can Gooseneck Hitch be Installed on a 1998 Chevy K1500 with Body Lift
  • The problem with putting a gooseneck hitch in a truck with a body lift is that the gooseneck hitch mounts to the frame, and as you know a body lift will lift the body higher off of the frame. Well, a gooseneck hitch installs onto the frame and the ball height is set for vehicles without a body lift. So, if you were to install a hitch on a truck with a body lift the ball will not stick up far enough through the body for a gooseneck coupler to attach to it. With a body lift you will...

  • Reese Elite Fifth Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2008 Ford Super Duty Long Bed
  • The # RP30073 that you referenced is an Elite series rail kit that is confirmed to fit your truck that will work with Elite hitches like the part # # RP30142. For a gooseneck hitch to work with this system you would want the part # RP30845. The Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch with Installation Kit # 9465-40 that you referenced is a gooseneck hitch designed to fit older Chevy trucks so it would definitely not work for an Elite fifth wheel hitch in your 2008 Ford truck.

  • Correct Installation Hardware Kit for Draw-Tite Underbed Gooseneck Hitch # 9465-40
  • I checked with my contact at Draw-Tite about the hardware kit you should have received from the retailer where you purchased your hitch. For the referenced hitch # 9465-40 there should be multiple hardware packets, parts 4440F (inside the longer of the two cartons for the base) and also part # 58320 for the head assembly. Kit 50054 is not correct for this hitch so I suggest you contact the seller where you purchased the hitch to get the correct hardware.
