Ball Displayed

The Hide-A-Goose gooseneck trailer hitch works to meet your heavy-duty towing needs while still allowing you to get full use out of your truck bed. The hitch installs beneath your vehicle to create a low-profile look. Even the safety-chain holders sit flush against your truck bed to take up as little room as possible. The ball easily secures in the hitch with a reinforced locking pin that is operated by a handle that installs in your truck's rear wheel well.

Handle and Storage

This hitch is called the Hide-A-Goose because of its convenient ability to hide the ball when you're not towing. To remove the ball, just pull the handle in the wheel well until it latches in the open position. Remove the ball, flip it upside down, and drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch. Then pull the handle again to release it from the open position and reengage the locking pin to secure the ball in the stowed position.

Magent Cover

Once you secure the ball in the stowed position inside the hitch, use the rubber cover to conceal the ball hole. This cover prevents dirt and debris from getting into the ball hole. This will prevent buildup that could cause the ball to seize up in the hitch.

Video Transcript for Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado

Today, on our 2008 Chevy Silverado, well be installing the Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, part number 9465-34. Note, to begin our install, weve already gone ahead and lower to remove the spare tire. Next, were going to remove both sets of rear wheel. Once our rear wheels are out of the way, remove the back half of the exhaust by unbolting it here at the exhaust clench removing the three nuts and then the two rubber isolators. Once we do this, well go ahead and take the exhaust and set it aside for installation later. Next, well go ahead and get in the bed of the vehicle.

Well need to measure, mark and drill out for the gooseneck ball throat to come up to the bed. Using the measurements provided with the instructions, well go ahead and measure it out and mark it now. Then using a pilot bit, well go ahead and drill out at the center point. With that done, well go ahead and switch to our holes whole bit and cut out the large whole as per the instructions. Now, with that done, well then move back underneath the vehicle.

Next, well need to remove the exhaust heat shield between the bed channels. Well go ahead and use our paint stick, mark out the area and then use a cut off wheel to remove this section. Once we have the heat shield cut out, well go ahead and set it aside as it will not be reinstalled. Next, well need to remove approximately 1-1/2 to 2 inches of the heat shield that goes around the top of the fuel tank, here on the passenger side, as it will interfere with the cross rails of the new hitch. Well go and use a pair of tins nips just to cut this section off.

Now with that done, were going to go ahead and loosen the bed bolts here on the passenger side. Well actually back it out of our way and thread it back in a few threads enough to still hold the bed in position. Now, well move over the driver side, well go ahead and remove all four fasteners. Now with the bed loose, we can go ahead and take a block of wood and insert it between the hatch channel in the frame to help support the bed and keep it up out of the way. Now with the bed prop up, this will allow us to get the cross rails and gooseneck head into position above the frame rails.

Next, well go ahead and assemble the rails in head, taking the 5/8 carriage bolts, concrete tooth washers and nut, well secure the rails of the head. Note, the front rail will go in to the gooseneck head to the horizontal attachment points. Once we have the carriage bolts in place, well then go ahead and secure it with the concrete tooth washer, teeth of the washer facing the hitch and then the nut. Well install each fastener and finger tight to put them all in place. The rear rail, which is also be a shorter rail, attachments point will be vertical. Now with everything fingered tight, well go ahead and put the gooseneck into position above the frame rails, fitting it in on the driver side and up over the frame rails on the passenger side. Note, on the driver side, well need to first remove two fasteners and secure the electrical connector on the inside of the frame. Well loosen these fasteners and then move it up to the slided holes and out of the way. Next, well take the side bracket, put it over the gooseneck rails and into place of the frame. With the side plate then in position, we can secure it with the half inch U-bolt, half inch concrete tooth washer, teeth of the washer facing the side bracket and then the half inch nut. Next, were going to install the hardware and secure it to side plate to the rails, this will be a 5/8 flat washer then a split lock washer and a 5/8 nut. Now, once our all hardware is in place fingered tight, well go ahead and repeat the same process on the other side. Note, on the driver side, well be adding an additional L-bracket between the bolt and block as it will be the new attachment point for the wiring connector we previously removed. We have an additional attachment point here at the rear of the side bracket, this will be a 5/8 bolt, 5/8 block going to the frame to the side bracket and being secured with a 5/8 split lock washer and nut. Now, with all our hardware in place, well go ahead and tighten it down. Next, well torque specifications as indicated in the instructions, starting with the side bracket to frame attachment points. Then well do the bracket to frame rails and then the gooseneck head to rails. Next, well go ahead and re-secure the pickup bed by reinstalling the driver side hardware and tightening down the passenger side hardware. Now, with everything tight and torque specifications, well go ahead and secure the wiring connector to the L-bracket that we installed earlier on the inside of the driver side frame rail. Next, well go ahead and drill out for the chain hole down. To drill out these attachment points, well use the gooseneck as a template and drill out on the bottom corrugation of the bed. To drill them out, well go ahead and take our final size bit as per instruction and use it as a template. Once we have a mark made, well go ahead and use a smaller pilot bit to open it up. Now, with all our poles drilled out with a pilot bit, well go ahead and move to the top and drill down through the bed and through the hitch that we used as a template. Now with all our holes drilled out, well go ahead and put the U-bolts in place. Noting, that the driver side U-bolt will have a short leg on the front attachment point. Next, well get underneath the vehicle and secure it with the hardware. First well install the spring, the larger portion of the spring going on first, then well secure it with a half inch flat washer and lock nut. Now with all our hardware in place, well go ahead and tighten it down to secure the chain hole down. Next we will need to assemble the handle to our gooseneck hitch. The handle will come of the rubber grip that will go and slide on and into place and then well set the handle into position in the gooseneck head, well line up the pregerer holes and install the pin to secure the handle. Now, with our handle secured, well need to reinstall the vehicle exhaust. With our exhaust reinstalled, we can now go over operation of our new gooseneck hitch. The handle will be pulled out to unlock and push forward to keep it and then unlock position. We can then insert or remove the ball as necessary. This is what our ball look like once its in the towed position. To put it in the store position, well unlock the handle, pull the ball out and turn it over and drop it into place. Once in place, well go and relock the handle, locking the ball in the stored position. Now with that, these complete the install of the Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Hitch, part number 9465-34, on our 2008 Chevy Silverado.

The customer service was spectacular which is great to find nowadays. The hitch I had a couple issues with however. Issue 1 was the the u-bolts for the safety chains are to short. I hooked up my trailer jumped in the back and couldn't get the chains in the loops without taking the nuts off the bolts putting on the chains and having my girlfriend push them down while i put the nuts on (I have a plastic bedliner which might have been the main issue here). Issue 2 is that online it says that I can tow 30,000lbs with this hitch. However when this hitch came in it said in multiple places in the mounting kit not to exceed 17,000lbs which makes me kind of nervous since I have to pull some heavy loads On the bright side though the hitch installed easier then i thought it would and I found etrailers YouTube video very helpful for it. I used it to pull a 13,000lb trailer this weekend and had no issues with it I'd probably buy this hitch again just because it's significantly cheaper then the blue ox and b&w hitches but I'd like them fix the above mentioned issues 386546

I purchased a gooseneck ball hitch for my truck. I use it to haul a 3000 gallon water tank. I wanted something that looked good and held up to the abuse. Works just as well or better than large name products of similar construction and the best part was it cost significantly less. 360752

Nice kit, tough job w/out a lift but can be done, keep in mind the U bolts for breakaway chain attachment are different and s/b installed per the instructions to avoid interference with the fuel tank, etc. Figured it would include electrical kit but was not, likely due to too many configuration options and truck types. 184333

great product. very easy to install. took just under 2 hours to do in a driveway. I have had no issues with it at all and would recommend this hitch to anyone on a budget, because it does the same thing that the expensive brands can do asst an affordable price. 500048

I've been asked numerous times about the hitch even the B&W distributor, and was surprised when I told him it was about $100.00 cheaper than the B&W 421288

This hitch was surprisingly easy to install on my 2013 F150 Crew Cab though I did have to buy a large holesaw for the job. I was able to use the 5,000lb Air Lift bags with the internal jounce bumpers but I don't think that the 2,000lb bags would work. Without the internal jounce bumpers that have to be put in a different place. I would have preferred to use the 2,000lb bags because I believe that they give a smoother ride. I also use a ball with a 5" setback for cab clearance on my horse trailer and 5.5ft bed combination with good results. It would have been nice if they made a hitch with a setback for shorter beds but other than that it is great. 582219

The product arrived in about 2 days. When my husband opened it and went through the parts with the diagram he noticed that 2 carriage bolts were missing and had to go to Menard's to purchase them to complete the assembly. I sent an email about this matter to customer service. Other than that I was very pleased with the Draw-Tite hitch and ease of ordering and of course the free shipping! 638647

In the words of Ace Ventura - Pet Detective... Like a Glove! I was in UPS delivery zone 1 - which was suppose to be 1 day delivery.... Boom - Nailed it. Got it when they said I would. I'm sure the manual says this some place but don't forget to wear safety googles! (not to be confused with the interweb search giant). My rustyish pup potty trained me in the eye before I said "self..." Anywho- i pooched my shopping cart order by originally ordering 2 of this hitches- only needed one. Called customer service and to my surprise- I got service! The super awesome representative only shipped 1 and credited my account and still got the order out the door in time for the UPS commitment. Will order again from these professionals again. Thank you etrailer!! 643630

Product is a great fit for my 2016 Ram 2500. The installation videos are dead on which allowed me to install the hitch myself. DIY savings was approx. $125. Tip: In addition to bending the wire on the nut plates, use plastic zip ties to secure the wires. This will absolutely prevent any rattling noise. 400447

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose in Gooseneck

Pretty good hitch, I’ve had and installed several gooseneck hitches and this one wasn’t bad to install. It’s well built and appears to exceed my trucks towing capacity, I advise to go ahead and lift the back of the bed up at least 2” to make it easier to install and align the hitch. I installed this on a 2018 GMC 2500 HD. 575037

Easy install once you get past the kinda confusing drawings. The safety hooks are pretty short, I just have the nuts flush with threads but can't get the hooks under them. I will have to look for longer ones. Took 3 hrs to install with having to remove hard tonneau cover and bed liner and reinstalling and clean up. Thought it would be worse!! The isolation tape they send with the hitch is kind of cheesy, hopefully it works. Was a great price! 435890

Comments
Hitch works great, no problems with the ball or linkages freezing up. Everything seems good. Have used it to pull a cattle trailer 12+ times this year.

This is the second Hide a Goose hitch that I have installed. Once you have lowered your spare tire the hitch goes in smoothly and relatively easily. This hitch went in on my 3500 dually in the morning and was being used by lunch, I have never had a problem with my other truck with the same style hitch, and if I buy another truck this will be the brand that I buy again. 238947

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose in Gooseneck

The only reason this product got 1 star is because I had to give it one star to rate it! Stupid system. The product I bought was the (Cequent) Draw-Tite 9460-48 gooseneck hitch. This is the worse product I ever bought. It is rated on everyone's website as having a 30,000 lb capacity. When you get the hitch you see all of these stickers on it saying DO NOT EXCEED 22,000 LBS. Initially the manufacturer said it was a mistake: they put the wrong stickers on it. When asked for new 30,000 lb stickers they admitted it was only rated for 22,000 lbs. I won't buy any Cequent Products ever. Or any of the Brand Names they sell. Draw_Tite is one of their brands. 315874

Good hitch. Love the drop and lock ball way more than my old hide-a-goose turnover ball. Installed it myself and only had to unbolt the brake like bracket. Left spare tire and exhaust in place. Put the ball in the center piece and slid it up and had my neighbor hold it by the ball while I put the conicals and nuts on. 519709
