Ball Displayed

The Hide-A-Goose gooseneck trailer hitch works to meet your heavy-duty towing needs while still allowing you to get full use out of your truck bed. The hitch installs beneath your vehicle to create a low-profile look. Even the safety-chain holders sit flush against your truck bed to take up as little room as possible. The ball easily secures in the hitch with a reinforced locking pin that is operated by a handle that installs in your truck's rear wheel well.

Handle and Storage

This hitch is called the Hide-A-Goose because of its convenient ability to hide the ball when you're not towing. To remove the ball, just pull the handle in the wheel well until it latches in the open position. Remove the ball, flip it upside down, and drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch. Then pull the handle again to release it from the open position and reengage the locking pin to secure the ball in the stowed position.

Magent Cover

Once you secure the ball in the stowed position inside the hitch, use the rubber cover to conceal the ball hole. This cover prevents dirt and debris from getting into the ball hole. This will prevent buildup that could cause the ball to seize up in the hitch.

Video Transcript for Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 HD

Today on this 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Heavy Duty we are going to install part number 9464-35 from Draw-Tite. All right, we are underneath the bed of the truck right now. First step is to pull the exhaust out of the way. We will go ahead and remove this rubber hanger here, theres one here, and a couple on the muffler in the back itself. Sometimes they have these little clips on here, so what you want to do is take a pair of pliers and just kinda work them off. Then you can take the rubber hanger off. :25

I pulled the exhaust out of the way a little bit so now I have more working room. Before we install the rails what you want to do is take some time and just thread the nuts on for a second and make sure they thread on. A lot of times they will powder coat the threads, and it is a real bear to get the nut installed and tightened down, so you might want to run a nut where it is easier to get to. All right we will sneak our rails in from underneath. The rails are identical, however you want to make sure that this rail here, the lower part with the bolt stays towards the back of the tail gate. Likewise with the part going on the other rail, this part has to face the cab so the hitch can fit inside. 1:24

And then the carriage bolts will simply into the square holes in the crossbar. We will take this bar and pull it straight to the back. We will install our front crossbar now. Drop our bolts in here. And we will just put them just like that for now. Then we will go ahead and put our side plates onto the cross bars next. All right this is a side plate we are going to install on the side of the frame, and you can tell it has a variety of holes in it and kind of looks like swiss cheese. What it is is this bolt hole here and here are going to be used for u-bolts that clamp on, and this hole here and this hole outside here is going to be used for the frame brackets themselves and there is another set of holes for the u-bolts also. All right, we will install our hardware on loosely because we still need to install one more bolt onto the frame. So I need to be able to move the bracket around a little bit. All right we will go ahead and start installing our hardware going from inside the frame and coming out of this hole on the bracket right here. We will take our bolt leader, put it through the hole, then work our way out this access hole here. There is one on the side that might be easier. Get the mud out of the way. Slide the block in first, then we will thread in our bolt, and pull the whole assembly through. 3:20

All right lets go ahead and install our hardware, conical tooth washer and the nut. And again we will just loosely thread those into place too. Okay we will go ahead and install our u-bolts next. This is the easy side here, and just line them up and push them into place. This is the passenger side we are looking at. Align with the bottom one, and then push that one out of the top. We will go ahead and install our hardware for the u-bolts, the conical tooth washer and the nut. Again we are going to leave everything loose for now. Now we will move over to the other side. All right we are going to install the u-bolt on the drivers side now, and the wire harness is going to be in the way as well as the brake line. We can not do anything with the brake line so we will have to warp the u-bolt behind it. So we will start by taking off the harness here, just moving out of our way. Slip our u-bolt here first, and that is why you leave the plates loose so you can slip your u-bolts in there. Once again we will go ahead and install the washers and nuts for the u-bolt. One neat little note here, you are able to pull these out without breaking the little plastic stubs, once you are done with it you can push it right back into place. We will go ahead and mark out the location for our hole that we will drill through the bed of the truck. There are two different dimensions for a long bed and short bed, so make sure you go by what is specified in the instructions. What we will do next is go ahead and just punch it, and then we will actually compare it from the bottom to the head assembly just to verify we have it in the right spot. We pound our mark right here in the bottom of the bed. It is offset towards the front rail which is good because if you check the instructions it will be offset to the front of the vehicle so we are in good shape there. Now lets go ahead and drill out our 1/ 4 inch hole and follow it up with the hole saw to make an opening for the hitch itself. 5:29

What we did was snug down the side brackets to the frame cross members themselves and the brackets are still loose on the frame. We tightened them enough to hold the cross members up at a right angle so it is easier to put up the head assembly. Once we have that loosely installed we can go ahead and loosen the brackets and make any adjustments that are necessary. All that remains now is to snug this up a little bit, center with the hole in the bed. Go ahead and take the ball, put it in loosely. Just go ahead and center the ball, you can probably push it with your foot or maybe take a rubber mallet and tap it over as you need. When you are satisfied with the way it is sitting we will go ahead and tighten the bolt that attaches the hitch to t he cross members and go from there. Go ahead and start snugging down all the bolts in the frame bracket, we will start with the bolts that go to the cross member and the frame bracket. Then we will go to the u-bolts, and both sides of the u-bolt. And then we will go ahead and torque everything down as specified in the instructions. Now that we have all our bolts torqued down we can install the handle, line up the holes and the cotter pin. Next we will mark and drill for the u-bolts themselves. What is going to happen is you want the u-bolts to sit inside the trough so when it is sitting down it fits in the low part of the corrugation. So, we feel over to one side, the closest to the hitch ball itself, you can see and fell the trough come down. See what I do with the u-bolt. So that is the part we want to go ahead and drill out. We are going to use a 1 /2 inch drill bit just to mark it. Go up to the 1 /4 inch bit, it will make a nice clean hole going back down with the 1/ 2 inch bit or 9/ 16ths if you need to. If you notice, one of the u-bolts has a shorter leg than the other, what that does is give it a little bit of extra clearance, to say for instance the gas tank was in the way or the exhaust like one this side is pretty close. We will actually just put the short one towards the exhaust to get more room. We will go ahead and install the springs, washers, and nuts from underneath. We are going to install our washer first, then the spring, and then the nut. We can only go so far because it is a lock nut, only two or three threads at the most. When you tighten them down you only want 2 to 3 nuts showing past the nut at all. Go ahead and put our exhaust hangers up now. That will finish the install of part number 9464-35 room Draw-Tite.

While initially I was frustrated with what was potentially going to be super slow shipping, the customer service at etrailer was fantastic. We ended up getting the hitch we ordered in a timely fashion and it came with easy to use instructions. The worst part was trying to cut the hole in the bed of the truck, but ended up working out fine. thank you etrailer! Excellent customer service. 553194

My son and I bought the Hide-a-Goose set up for his 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab. The shipping of the 111 lbs. packages (came in 2 boxes) was fast! Upon arrival, the instructions were right-on and easy to follow. We took our time and the installation went off without a hitch(pun intended!). We purchased the "no drilling required" kit and the only holes needed were through the truck bed. George kept us updated and we really appreciate the guys at etrailer. I highly recommend their products and would most definitely buy from etrailer again! Thanks guys! Leon W. 246677

It took me about a year to get around to putting it in... I didn't have to take out the exhaust like the video says. I have a 2012 short bed Cummins 4x4. Getting the bars in is fascinating. Everything is super heavy so you'll need help for sure. 564042

I have bought from etrailer for many years now. Many hitches from a 2005 Toyota highlander hitch and wiring, to a 2012 Chrysler town and country hitch and wiring, brake controller to my most recent one a 2008 dodge ram mega cab gooseneck hitch. Every part I have bought have fit without any modification. The YouTube videos are specially helpful. I've recieved my shipment a few days ago which was way faster then I expected. Today i woke up ready to install it, I read the instructions and watched the YouTube video went under my truck bed and started working on it. I did mess up on the hole for the ball but that was my oops. Very satisfied. 501465

Ordered the hide a ball gooseneck hitch I had it in 4 business days with the free shipping, and if that wasn't good enough I found a cheaper priced hitch on another site after I bought it, and etrailer refunded me the difference plus 5% and lowered the price online so that the customers are getting the best bang for the buck with hands down the best customer service I have encountered yet. As far as the hitch goes it comes with plenty of instructions and all the hardware and took a buddy and I 2 hours from start to finish to complete. Great product, great service 168992

Very please with the customer service and the hitch! I called etrailer.com to verify the hitch would fit my 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 dually, as I wasn't entirely sure the application was the same for a standard bed and a dually. Lindy was extremely helpful, and I was able to place my order with her right over the phone. The hitch arrived on time, and I was able to install it with no significant problems. I say 'significant problems', as the custom exhaust installed by the previous owner was in the way, but that's a problem with my truck, not the hitch. A recommendation: get a computer, or tablet, or phone, and use the video for installation. The video was (by far!) the best explanation on how to install the hitch. I used both the video and the written instructions, and occasionally the written instructions made me scratch my head. The video immediately cleared up any confusion. A word of caution, though, don't throw out the written instructions. They have the measuring distance for drilling the holes in the bed and the torque specs for the bolts. The whole installation took about four hours, from pulling the truck into the garage to putting everything away after installing the hitch. Most of that time was trying to maneuver around the non-standard exhaust, though. If my truck had the factory exhaust, I figure it would have been about two to two and a half hours for installation. The only tool I had to get was the correct size hole saw for drilling out the bed to install the ball. Everything else in the installation just requires basic hand tools and a decent socket set. Overall, it was an easy installation, and a great product. I would highly recommend this hitch, and will purchase it again if, or when, I get another truck. 504530

Great product at a great price! I measured out the 3.5" hole location as the directions said for a 8 ft bed on my 2010 Ram 3500 4X4 quad cab. I drilled the hole and deburred, Removed the rear fender well panels and proceded to slide the rails over the chasis. I had to bend the steel flange where the bed is put together during fabrication to have enough room to fit the rail between the bed and the chasis. This was only done on one side in one location. The rails slid right in and I continued on with the install. It was a little hard by myself but I managed. I did not have a lift and was lying on my back under the truck half the time. I did not have to remove my rear tires, raise the bed or remove exhaust to install. I did notice that I could have drilled the 3.5" hole about 3/8" to 1/4" less than the specified distance for perfect alignment on the chasis but all worked out well and it tows great! I'm very satisfied with my hitch and the experience with Etrailer, Thanks Etrailer! 182288

Haven't used the product yet but have finished the installation myself. After opening the boxes and noticing that there were no sort of installation tools included I was disappointed and felt a little misled by the product description title considering it says "with custom installation kit" in the title. Besides that the installation went smoothly after I acquired the proper drill bits after discovering it actually did not come with what I would call a "custom installation kit". So, for everyone thinking about buying this you will need 5/16", 9/16", 1/4" drill bits and a 3.5" hole saw. 577433

I have installed quite a few hitches in customers trucks. This hitch is very straight forward and easy to put in. You don't have to drill any holes, it's all bolt in. If you are familiar with installing these, one person and a helper can usually tackle this job in less than 2 hours. The hitch is well made and all the parts are powder coated, so rust is not an issue. The ball is hardened and chrome plated, and is very easy to remove and flip over if you need the room in the bed. To top it off Etrailer has the most reasonable prices I have found and always free shipping. I would recommend this product to another person. 352808

after waiting two weeks for another on-line company to ship the hitch I order, then being told three more weeks for it to be shipped I cancelled order and reorder from etrailer and received it in three days, box was torn open but every thing was there. It did not take 90 minutes about 3 hours still not bad. Hitch looks good have to wait to try it 299571

Installed this by myself except for help to lift the ball hitch assembly into place and bolt it up. I did this in my garage with out a hoist or jack stands. I am 75 years old--you can do it too!! 291519

Hitch is outstanding unit and would highly recommend to all. Installation is 50% easer to install with a hydraulic left instead of crawling around on a floor creeper. There is no need to cut or remove anything on your truck except for the ball opening, just hard to muscle laying on your back. But guess what all gooseneck installations are this way. 284101

Very Easy Install my 2011 instructions said to remove bed bolts but the 2012 video said no need so I followed the 2012 video and did not remove bed or wheels just spare and rear pipe after cat/muffler. slid right in like 2012 and bolted right up. Good Product and E trailer videos and instructions make it very easy DIY. 283442

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Gooseneck
Do you have a question about this Gooseneck?

  • Replacement Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Plate Needed for a 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup
  • From the picture that you sent in it looks like you have the Hide-A-Goose part # 9460, # 9464 or # 9465. If the vehicle you are installing this on is the 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup that you inserted for your vehicle information then the part # 9464 is the correct option for your application. For a 1500 the whole gooseneck hitch would be part # 9464-38 while for a 2500/3500 the kit would be # 9464-35. The 9464 part number comes with the plate and the hitch ball. Unfortunately the plate is...

  • Recommended Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 with Air-Lift Airbags
  • The Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs part # AL57295 attaches to top of the rear axle below the factory bump stop mounts. Therefore these airbags will not interfere with any of our gooseneck hitches we have for your 2012 Dodge Ram 3500. For a gooseneck hitch compatible with your vehicle I recommend using the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch w/ Custom Installation Kit part # BWGNRK1308 for models with the gas engine and part # BWGNRK1313 for models with the...

  • Parts Needed to Install Hide a Goose Gooseneck in 2004 Dodge Ram 2500
  • The part # 9465 is not part of a gooseneck hitch that would fit your 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 short bed. The correct part number is the part # 9464-35. If you somehow found just the part # 9464 you'd want the part # 4439.

  • Comparison Of Gooseneck Hitches For 2012 Ram 2500 With 6 Ft Bed
  • I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite about the Hide-A-Goose hitches you asked about. Part # 9464-35 is actually rated higher in Towing capacity at 30,000 lbs than the # 9464-57. The head on the 9464-57 is rated at 30,000 lbs but the lower capacity is due to the construction of the installation rails included. My contact said the 9464-35 is constructed of stronger steel. The B and W Gooseneck, part # BWGNRK1313 is a great hitch as well. One note about the B and W is the shank on the...

  • Cutting Hole In Truck Bed To Install Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # 9464-35
  • Installation of the Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, part # 9464-35, will require using a hole saw to drill into the bed of your Dodge Ram pickup. You will need to measure, mark, and drill a quarter inch hole, then use a hole saw to cut the hole out for the gooseneck ball. If you have a 6 foot bed, you will measure 44 inches from the rear edge of the truck bed and centered between the wheel wells. If you have an 8 foot bed, you will measure 46 inches from the rear edge...

  • Best Gooseneck Hitch Recommendation for a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed
  • The most popular gooseneck hitch we offer with other owners of 2010 Ram 2500s with 6 foot beds is the Draw-Tite Gooseneck # 9464-35. This is a great hitch that would be strong, safe and about as easy as a gooseneck hitch can be to install. I attached installation instructions and an install video for you to check out for more info. Since you have a short bed you may also want the gooseneck ball with offset part # 19308 to give you better clearance while turning.

  • Installing the Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose on a 2007 Ram 2500 With Gooseneck Hitch Previously Installed
  • It is likely that the previous gooseneck hitch was from a different manufacturer. Gooseneck hitch manufacturers vary on their ball placement. Some manufacturers state to put the ball directly over the center of the rear axle and other manufacturers state to put the ball slightly forward of the rear axle. There are a few things that you will want to take into consideration before attempting to use the previous hole in your truck bed. First, the main concern would be a matter of the warranty....

  • Recommended Gooseneck to 5th Wheel Adapter for Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose on a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500
  • I have a solution for you, but the B&W Companion will not be compatible with your Draw-Tite Hide a Goose # 9464-35. The ball on the B&W is square tubed shaped while your Draw-Tite Hide a Goose is round. Instead I recommend the Draw-Tite Hi-Rise # 9480 which will be compatible with your Draw-Tite Hide a Goose # 9464-35. This unit has a gross towing weight 18,000lbs, a vertical load limit of 4,500lbs and a hitch height of 14-1/4-18 inches. (capacity is limited to that of the tow vehicle...

  • Could Demco Universal Fifth Wheel Rails Be Installed in the Bed of a Truck with Gooseneck Hitch
  • I have a solution for you so that you can tow both a fifth wheel trailer and a gooseneck hitch trailer, but you will not be able to have a gooseneck and a fifth wheel rail kit installed in your truck at the same time. You would need to remove the gooseneck hitch and then install the rail kit part # DM8552015-71 so that you can use the hitch part # DM6076P-UL-21K and then when you need to tow a gooseneck trailer you would need the # DM5996.

  • Gooseneck Ball Options for a Hide-A-Goose Trailer Hitch on a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500
  • If it is a Hidden Hitch, Reese, Bulldog, or Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose hitch, they will all take the same ball. However, ball # 19309 fits the following models: # 9460, # 9461, # 9462, # 9463, # 9470, # 9471, and # 9474. The underbed gooseneck hitch for a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 is # 9464-35 (Draw-Tite). For this hitch, you can use Ball # 19306 (2-5/16 inch diameter) or # 19307 (3 inch diameter). If you have a short bed, we have a ball with an offset, # 19308.

  • Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab Short Bed
  • In order to tow a gooseneck trailer I recommend using a gooseneck trailer hitch in your 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab short bed. The use of a 5th wheel hitch and then an adapter is not as secure as using a gooseneck hitch directly. The ride quality will be better. If the trailer is the typical gooseneck design with the wedge or V-shape at the front then the short bed will likely not be a problem. But there are ways to get additional clearance if needed. First, you will need a gooseneck...

Long beds can use adapter # 9480 but since you have a short bed you cannot use this adapter since you will not have enough turning clearance.
