Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch Operation

Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Operation

The Curt Double Lock underbed gooseneck trailer hitch provides a sturdy, secure connection for towing your gooseneck trailer and also allows for a clean, unobtrusive look for your truck bed when you aren't towing. To tow, simply pull the included handle out to unlock the hitch. Then insert the chrome-plated hitch ball into the ball hole. You may need to rotate the ball to line it up with the dual locking pins. When the ball drops into place, rotate the handle counterclockwise until the locking pins snap into position. Because there are 2 locking pins instead of 1, you get extra security for your towing setup.

Get full bed access when you're not towing. Just remove the ball, flip it upside down, drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch, and use the handle to lock the ball in place. A rubber cover is included with the Double Lock. When the ball is stowed upside down in the hitch, place this cover over the ball hole to keep out dirt and grime and create a clean look for your vehicle.

Video Transcript for Curt Double Lock Flip and Store Gooseneck Hitch Installation - 2017 Ford F-150

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford F150, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt double lock flip and store under bed gooseneck, part number C607-649. This is what our hitch looks like installed from underneath the truck. What sets this hitch apart from other ones, is it's going to have a dual locking pin, going to help stabilize your gooseneck ball little better, keep it from moving around. The hitch is going to have a nice, black powder coat finish to help resist rust and corrosion. It's going to sit directly on top of your frame of the vehicle. All your attachment points are going to be underneath the bed of the truck.

Your frame brackets are going to mount directly to your frame on your vehicle. You're not going to drill any holes. It's going to come with all necessary hardware to get it installed. Your handle for your locking pin it's going to give you plenty of access to lock it and unlock it. To unlock it, you simply pull it out, twist it.

To lock it, you just turn it, just bring it back in.This is what it looks like on the inside of the bed. If you can see, it sits flush with the bottom of the bed. So, you're going to have total access to your bed. It's going to come with a ball, simply slides into place. Again you pull the handle, let it go, the double pin locks it into place.

You can also flip it up. It has a nice handle on it. It also comes with a cap when you're not using it. Inside of here, it's got a little pin to keep the ball from dropping all the way down. It locks it into place on both sides.

Your ball it's going to be two and 5/16 in size. It's going to have a 7,500 pound max vertical weight, which is straight up and down. It's going to have a 30,000 pound max trailer weight. Now your safety chain U bolts are going to sit down inside of your corrugation and they are spring loaded, makes it easy to attach to. The only drilling that you have to do for this hitch is for your safety chain hooks and for your hitch ball. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed.First thing we need to do to start our installation, is we need to find the center of our bed between our wheel wells. Measure between them, you can just take a black magic marker, anything and I'm just going to make sure I can find my center. Then I'm going to go from the back of the bed. You want to make sure you don't measure from the tailgate. You measure from the edge of the bed here. With the spray in bed liner, we're going to add an eight inch to 3/16 onto our measurement to make sure we get center. Double check this mark here just a little. Now we have our center mark. Next thing I want to do is I'm going to drill a pilot hole where my mark is.Next we'll take a four inch hole saw and we're going to cut the circle out where our hitch is going to be placed. The reason I have this board here, is I want to make sure that my wheel when I'm cutting into it doesn't bounce around. That's going to help keep it into place. Next you're going to want to clean up the shavings. What I'm going to do, I'm going to take a file. I'm going to get it right along the edge on the underside here and just kind of knock off some of the burrs. Just going to clean it up. I'm going to take a little bit of spray paint and I'm going to spray the inside edge because it's bare metal. We want to kind of help keep it from corroding or possibly rusting. Now your kit comes with a little black rubber seal, that you can put around here if you want to. I'm going to go ahead and put it on and it's split. Just going to take it like this, push it into place. Next thing we need to do, is we need to cut a little notch in this to put our cross arm into place. So, what I did is I kind of lined up with the hole, so that when I cut this out my pull lever to open and close it will hit the same spot. So I'm just going to take a yellow paint marker and this is a lip. So I'm going to try to stay right underneath that. And you can use tin snips, I'm going to use a dremel tool with a cutting blade on it.Next we'll grab our cross beam and see if we can fit it in there and make any adjustments we need to. This angled bracket is going to go toward the back of the vehicle. So when you put it in, we'll slide back to the back like that. We'll just set it into place for now. Then we can go ahead and put our front one in. You see this, there's a plastic hanger right here. It's holding up some wiring. We're going to go ahead and pull that out now. We'll just take a trim panel tool and we'll just pop out that plastic hanger there for now. One thing I want to mention before we put our front cross bar underneath the vehicle bed. You want to make sure you clean these holes out. So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to take a tap and die set and I'm going to run it through each hole to clean out any of the paint or anything else that's down inside there. Take a little bit of lubricant and spray our holes down. Take the tap and we're going to run down through the holes and get everything cleaned out.And we're going to take one of our bolts, we'll thread it into place to make sure that we got it all cleaned out. And we'll do that with each of the holes on this front cross bar. Next we'll put our front cross beam into place. Just like the other one, it's going to span from frame rail to frame rail. We're going to push it all the way as far forward as we can up against this cross beam here or support beam til we get underneath the truck. Now what we're going to do, is we'll flip up our cross bar. You want to make sure that the holes, you can see the long and the short. You want to make sure that the holes are closer to the bottom of the vehicle. Sorry to the ground and then we flip this on, it's going to flip this way like this. So we'll take this one and turn it up like that, push it all the way up against our cross member there and we've gone ahead and removed our spare tire to make it a little easier. Now we're going to remove the heat shield. We'll use a half inch socket. We're going to have a bolt here. We're going to have two right on top here. We'll just set this out of the way to reinstall later. So before we put our hitch into place, keep in mind the truck has an aluminum bed and this is a piece of steel. It's going to come with an isolator kit. What you want to do is peel this off and you're going to put it around the top of the hitch like this. And this is going to keep the bed and the steel of this from rubbing together and causing the bed to corrode. Just a piece of vinyl or plastic that's sticky on one side.Next we're going to raise our center section into place here. Line it up with our hole. We're going to take a couple of our half inch bolts. Just get a couple of them started here, into place. On this back bracket, we're going to put in flange nuts. Now we can put in the rest of our hardware. So now that we have the rest of our hardware in place, we're going to remove the ones that we put in to hold it up. We're going to take a conical tooth washer, teeth facing toward the hitch and we're going to put our bolt in this way, like that. Then we'll put our flange nut on the inside. We'll do that with these two here. And then these two that we put in, we're going to pull out and we're going to put a conical tooth washer.Next thing we're going to do, is we're going to take our pull wire with our spring in, spacer block and a large carriage bolt. We're going to start, we're going to feed our spring in through this hole and come out this hole. Just like this. First we're going to put on our spacer block. Push it into the hole. Then we'll thread on our carriage bolt onto the spring end of our pull wire. Push it into the hole. You want it to come out like that. Just leave that hang for now. On this one we're going to do what's called a reverse pole. We're going to do the same thing with our plate and bolt except we're going to put our bolt in first. And then we'll feed our spacer block in. Then you're going to pull it back out like that. Then we're going to do the same thing on the other side of the vehicle. Here we're going to take our bracket that's going onto our frame and we're going to feed our wires through the matching holes, which is going to be on the bottom of the bracket. And you want to make sure this side here is going toward the back of the vehicle. This arm or this half moon shape here is going to fit right over top this. Show here in just a second, just like that. We're going to take one of our bolts, conical tooth washers, thread it into place through our front cross arm. That'll help hold up this bracket. Now we're going to remove this spring here. We'll add a large flange nut. Do the same thing here. Next we'll take one of our larger carriage bolts and we're going to take one of these thicker silver colored space blocks. We're going to go through this back hole here, then we'll follow it up with a flange nut. We're going to repeat that process on the other side of the vehicle.Once you have your side brackets in place, we're going to come back underneath the vehicle and we're going to torque the center section on through our rails first. And we're going to torque them to the specifications listed in the instructions. Next with a 15/16 socket and we're going to torque down our frame brackets on the sides. We're going to torque down our bigger bolts first that are running on our frame. Now if you can hear that sound don't be alarmed, that's the teeth on the flange nut tightening down onto the bracket. That and we'll do the same thing on the other side.Next we're going to torque our top two bolts down on both sides of the vehicle to the specifications in the instructions. What I'm going to do with this next one, is first I'm going to tighten down as much as I can with a 3/4 inch wrench. And we'll put our torque wrench on it. Next I'm going to drill my four holes for my safety chains. You can see there's four sets of holes on each side of our hitch. One side has the raise in it, the other side has the drop in it. We want the side the holes with the drop it in, which is the lower corrugation. I'm going to take a hole punch, just to mark my spot and I'm going to go like this. Do the same thing on this side. I'm going to drill a pilot hole first. Do this on the same thing over on this side. Next we're going to finish up our holes with a half inch drill bit from inside the bed. Next we'll clean up our shavings here. And we'll paint the inside of the hole where the metal is showing. Now that we've got our holes drilled, we can drop our safety chain U bolts into place. Next we're going to take one of our short springs and two flat washers. Put one flat washer on the top, spring on, then another flat washer like this. Then we're going to thread on one of our lock nuts. And we're going to do that same thing on our last three threaded ends of our safety chain hooks. And we're going to take a 3/4 inch socket, and you only want to tighten these to where the bolt is flush with the end of the nut. Next we're going to put our dual locking pin in place, just like that. You want to make sure that the open end is going toward the top. Then we're going to take our handle, I'm going to go in from the drivers side and feed it through. Just like this, through the holes like this. I'll take a washer, then we're going to take this long spring, we're going to put it on like this. And we're actually going to put another washer right here. What we want, is if we see that hole in our rod, we want it to line up with that hole there. We're going to take this little nut and bolt and that's what's going to hold that in place. Feed it through, then we'll put on our nut. Next we'll take seven millimeter socket and an eighth millimeter wrench. The seven millimeter socket is going to be for the head of the bolt. The eight millimeter wrench or socket is going to be for the nut. Next what we want to do is we're going to pull our handle to make sure it's going to come through the notch that we made out earlier. As you can see it does. We hae plenty of room. Now we'll take some rubbing alcohol and we're going to take off the yellow paint that we put on with a paint marker. I'm going to take some clear coat, I'm going to spray that bare metal. And last we are going to put on our sticker for our handle. That'll do it for the Curt double lock flip and store under bed gooseneck hitch part number C607-649 on our 2017 Ford F150.

Great product. Fit my vehicle without modifications. Easy to install. Converted my fifth wheel travel trailer to goose neck hitch, so I don't have to remove a heavy fifth wheel hitch every time I want to haul something. Just pull the lever and turn the ball over giving me full use of the truck bed. Awesome 704141

Curt and Pollak make a great product and etrailer is a great site, I come here for all my towing needs now! My only issue is that the instructions for the gooseneck hitch were kind of vague. I got it on in about 3 1/2 hours taking my time and making sure it was right. Other than that I would purchase a Curt and Pollak product again! 454991

Could be packaged better. The parts are heavy and rub on each other and in some cases the finish was scraped off. Had to chase the holes with a 1/2" tap, because the finish on the hitch was sprayed into the holes. Directions were ok. Hitch fits fine and works well on my 1/2 ton Chevy. The person I worked with at etrailer.com was helpful and the hitch was shipped promptly. 555980

Hitch has just been installed. Hitch comes in two cardboard boxes, very poor as components are way to heavy. Longer heavier box was torn open and plastic centering ring to locate four inch hole was gone and small parts were all over in box. Make sure you run a one half inch die into and through all of the holes in the two cross bars. In my case I had to remove and revamp the air bag top supports. Quite a lot of extra work but, they are now reinstalled along with the hitch. Cutting the four inch hole with a hole saw was quite a challenge as the bit would catch the box sheet metal and I could not hold it. As I have had Curt products in the past, I assume this hitch will work for many years. 670765

I order a few hitchs from etrails they always show up fast to my door. I install a curt trailer hitch on my 1996 dodge ram 2500 install was fast and easy took me about 20 mins. Now I have order this curt goose neck hitch for my 1996 haven't got to install it yet but will in the next day. I am sure the install will be fast and clean like the trailer hitch was. Anyone looking to order from etrailers do so. You can not beat there prices and the shipping is fast. Thanks etrailer 444377

No issues with this hitch after one year. I don't have a need to hide the ball so I can't comment on how easy that part works. (I thought I would need to hide the ball - but, have found that I just don't use the truck bed that way very often!) 446178

When we ordered the hitch we paid extra for quick ship and received the hitch on time, as we were in a pinch to get it installed and operational. My son and I installed it without any complication. Instructions were surprisingly easy to follow. Hitch showed up intact, well packaged and with all related hardware and in great condition. etrailer offered the best price we could find, were very friendly, informative and helpful. The women we dealt with went above and beyond any other vendor we use to make sure we had the right parts, shipped the right way and at the right time! Excellent customer service, will always check with them first when ordering anything we need in the future. 505896

Install was straight forward on 2017 silverado 3500hd. I chose this kit because I don't have to trim any part of the bed to slide the cross rails in. Watching the video helps prepare you a head of time of what you need and to expect. Shipment was quick and undamaged. 644086

I am giving this product 3 stars, not because the product was bad, but because the packaging was terrible. I personally love the hitch and rate it 5 stars, but packing 1 star. I received mine all torn open, bag of bolts torn open and parts spilled all over. Luckily, none of my hardware was lost and I had all of the pieces. Install was very easy and the hitch works great. 448818

Might be a good hitch for a single rear wheel gasoline truck but is a nightmare to install on a DRW diesel truck. C-brackets are a pain with fuel tank. No room to get tools in etc.. Lessons learned............. Drop the spare, remove the rear wheels, remove the exhaust from the cab back. The instructions and the video both state that you don't have to any of the above. Yeah right. He also demonstrates removing the ball by turning the release handle to the left to lock it while you remove and replace the ball........... Handle is bolted in rigid and does NOT rotate. I don't see any way to lock it open either. (tarp strap to the fender maybe?) You can put the ball in pretty easily but removing will require 2 people as near as I can figure. Pre sale looked pretty good but........... etrailer on the other hand is still a great company to purchase all trailer needs from. Fast prepaid shipping etc.. Will continue to purchase from etrailer but not too sure about this particular brand of hitch. 572328

The site is good, easy to use. My order shipped the same day I ordered it on Saturday And arrived the following Tuesday. The written directions weren't the best but found a YouTube installation video from the manufacturer and it made it seem very simple. 576027

This company helped me from step 1 on deciding which gooseneck hitch to go with, installation videos and checking up on after receipt of the hitch. The hitch was super easy to install with the template for drilling the hole that was included, this hitch by far exceeds the little extra touches you get with a more expensive hitch, the pull handle is a heavier gage, the double locking pin, and even the dust cover to keep out the dirt and gravel from the turnover ball! Great product 378880

Curt Double Lock Flip and store Gooseneck Hitch was a good buy, installation went well, just as the video showed. The only problem was the exhaust pipe clearance. Tweaked the spacer and used only the back half of it and got the clearance I needed 522953

I ordered my hitch on Tuesday afternoon and received it Friday morning. Saturday morning I put it took about 3 1/2 hours to install which included 45 minutes to get the lock off the spare tire. Struggled to get the bolts in the frame but other than that everything went smooth. It looks real nice in the bed of my 2500 chev. Now to finish lunch and hook onto the trailer and go. 478582

Review from a similar Curt Double Lock in Gooseneck

Great product and perfect fit for my 2005 GMC Sierra duramax. I just purchased a Montana fifth wheel and wanted to still be able to use the bed of the truck without taking a heavy hitch in and out and breaking my back. The hitch arrived really fast and the boxes were in pretty good shape and I was only missing one washer from a torn parts bag. I was able to install the hitch that weekend with help of the directions and how to YouTube video. The only issue I had was that the video stated the crossbar with the notch went to the rear while the directions showed it going to the front. It definitely goes to the front and was pretty obvious when installing it. I didn’t have any real issues with the install and it looks great and hides away nicely leaving a clean flat bed. I look forward to hauling my fifth wheel real soon. 497865

In order to tow your fifth wheel trailer with your new gooseneck hitch, youll need an adapter of some sort. If you use the provided link, you can see the various options available.

It’s been one year since I installed this gooseneck hitch on my truck. The video was straightforward and I was able to install an afternoon. Since then I have towed my horse trailer several thousand miles in all sorts of climates and conditions with absolutely no issues. Only suggestion , Is make sure every six months or so you lube the height of all lever and mechanism to prevent sticking. I installed this hitch for a fraction of what all the local trailer and towing stores quoted me. 546020

Product was shipped and received within time frame given. Installed nicely, within 3 hours. Had to pry up truck bed, dented from hauling to get hitch in, and hole-saw walked a bit on me, but other than that good install. 629727

The box was beat up very bad but nothing was missing, just too heavy for UPS to carry. The installation was a little different for me than the videos I watched, on my 2003 Silverado 1500HD the right shock and gas tank was too close to truck bed and it made putting the under bed plate in very difficult, I should have just taken truck bed off. The cross bars that the under bed plate bolted in was very hard to get bolts into even after I cleaned the bolt hole threads out and sprayed WD40 into the bolt holes. It took me by myself almost 5 hours to get it installed but I got it in last Saturday, I will never do this again. 514983

I have installed this hitch and the B&W equivalent on identical trucks. The B&W is about $100 more but took me less than half the time to install. They are very similar but in my opinion the B&W is worth the extra money if you are I talking it yourself. 478729

Installation was fairly painless. I have been pulling with this hitch fairly frequently and normally for long distances when I do. I have never had issues with fasteners coming loose or he ball getting loose in the socket. The only issue I have had with the hitch was the ball getting stuck in the stored position. 468238

Thank you for your review. I have contacted Curt about the gooseneck ball getting stuck in the stored posistion. They suggest to go underneath the truck and to clean and apply liberal amounts of lubricant on all of the moving parts of the underside of the gooseneck hitch. Try to pull the lever to free the ball. If the ball comes free make sure to clean the cavity where the ball is stored. This cavity can become full of dirt and grime which can cause the ball to become stuck. If you are still not able to free the ball, then you can also unscrew the chrome ring from the top of the hitch and remove the ball. Then make sure the cavity and the ball is properly lubricated with a grease such as part #L10337 before reinstalling the ball.

  • Does Bed Liner of Truck Need to Remove to Install Curt Gooseneck Hitch
  • You'll want to cut out a section of the bed liner to allow the Curt Gooseneck Hitch part # C607-649 to fit through it but other than that it would not affect the install of the gooseneck hitch. It's standard practice to cut out a drop in bed liner when installing a gooseneck hitch.

  • Can the Demco Recon Adapter Part # DM8550045 Be Used with a Sidewinder Revolution
  • I do have options for you but the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter part # DM8550045 cannot be used with a rotating pin box like the Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret part # RP61420 (Reese Revolution). The stress on the connection point which is the gooseneck hitch ball opening is too great. Unfortunately, there is no safe way to use a 5th wheel hitch that connects to the gooseneck hitch ball opening on a trailer with a rotating pin box. Therefore,...

  • Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2016 Ford F-150 Short Bed
  • For your 2016 Ford F-150 short bed I like the B&W Turnover Ball gooseneck hitch # BWGNRK1115. They are a leader in the industry, the hitches are made in the USA, and they do all the laser cutting of the metal parts in house to ensure quality and precision. I have linked a video review of this hitch for you. Since you have a short bed I recommend adding an offset ball # BWGNXA4085. This will give you 4 more inches of clearance so you can make tighter turns.
