Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch Operation

Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Operation

The Curt Double Lock underbed gooseneck trailer hitch provides a sturdy, secure connection for towing your gooseneck trailer and also allows for a clean, unobtrusive look for your truck bed when you aren't towing. To tow, simply pull the included handle out to unlock the hitch. Then insert the chrome-plated hitch ball into the ball hole. You may need to rotate the ball to line it up with the dual locking pins. When the ball drops into place, rotate the handle counterclockwise until the locking pins snap into position. Because there are 2 locking pins instead of 1, you get extra security for your towing setup.

Get full bed access when you're not towing. Just remove the ball, flip it upside down, drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch, and use the handle to lock the ball in place. A rubber cover is included with the Double Lock. When the ball is stowed upside down in the hitch, place this cover over the ball hole to keep out dirt and grime and create a clean look for your vehicle.

Video Transcript for Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Today on our two016 Chevrolet Silverado two500HD, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the CURT Double Lock Flip and Store Under-bed Gooseneck hitch with installation kit, part number C607-604. Here's what it looks like once it's installed in the truck. You can see from underneath here, you're able to see it's key feature, which is the double locking pins on the locking mechanism. That's going to help provide added security for when the ball's in place. When I pull the locking mechanism out, you can see the two pins that are used to help secure the ball into the hitch. There you can see the spring-loaded action in order to reinsert the locking pins. Here's what it looks like from inside the bed of the truck.

As you can see, we've got our 2 5/16 ball, and around it we've got this nice trim ring that's chrome and stainless steel. That's going to help it maintain a very nice, clean look in the bed of your truck. We've got these spring-loaded safety chain connection points, so you can pull them up when your ready to use them, and when you don't have a trailer hooked up, they tuck down nicely into the bed corrugation so that you can still maintain use of your bed. That's another nice feature of this gooseneck hitch, is that you can flip the ball over and store it upside down, so that way you'll be able to have full use of your bed. On the bottom side of the ball it's got that loop for when you're ready to pull it back out and use it.

You'll notice that on 1 side of our ball here, through the two locking pin holes, see we've got these grooves. Those are there because there's a pin that's down inside the hole for our ball that is going to go and rest in those to make sure that it sits at the proper depth and can't rotate when it's in there, along with those locking pins to help make sure it stays secure. When you have it stored away, it also comes with this rubber cover that'll pop right down inside there. That'll help keep dirt and debris from getting down inside your gooseneck hitch, so that way it helps maintain the easy operation so that there's not that debris build up. You can see what's really nice about this is when the ball's flipped over, you're still going to have full access to your entire truck bed. It's not going to eliminate any of it.

This gooseneck hitch features a 7500-pound load limit, and a 30,000 gross trailer weight capacity. To begin our installation, we're going to go ahead and remove the spare tire. Now with our spare tire out of the way, we'll need to remove this heat shield and we're going to need to remove two 13 millimeter bolts in order to do that. Now we'll need to remove this heat shield. You can also cut a section of it out, but I'm just going to remove it. It's going to have 4 bolts that hold it in.

You'll need a 13 millimeter wrench or socket in order to do that. 1 on top of this cross member, and then 1 on top of this cross member further forward, and then two on top of the frame rail up here. Now we'll remove this inner fender liner because it comes equipped with it. There are going to be multiple screws that are going to use a T15 Torx bit in order to remove them, and they're going to be all throughout. Once you've got this fender liner removed, we'll go to the other side and do the same thing. Now we can remove our two bolts that hold that heat shield in place on top of the frame rail. Now we'll take our heat shield and remove it. Before putting our cross rails across the top of the frame rails, you want to take 1 of the half inch bolts that comes with the kit and thread it in to all the holes in the rails, to make sure that the powder coating or any debris doesn't keep you from being able to easily thread them in by hand. You want to be sure to do that on all holes on both cross rails. Now we'll install our front cross rail, and you want to be sure that you install it with the holes closer to the bottom when they'll be in there, and also, the difference between the front and rear rail is this front rail has this little shallow notch taken out. That's going to go towards the driver's side so that it'll give that little bit of extra clearance over the fuel tank. We can put our rail on its side and slide it across until it's resting between both frame rails, then we'll move it forward. Now we'll slide our rear cross rail into place. Now we'll take our cross rails and we'll need to flip them upright. In order to do that I'm going to take a once inch wrench, but you can also use a crescent wrench or a pair of channel lock pliers. Want to grip it and turn it so that it flips upright. Again, you want to make sure that those holes are down towards the bottom. inaudible 00:06:20 this front cross rail, you'll want that notch to be to whore it goes right around the fuel tank there, and then you can move that forward a little bit. We'll slide it back all the way against our hat channel. Now we'll take our side plates and get them up into position. In order to do that you'll want to make sure that you space them out far enough. You'll be able to slide it up in between there. You also want to make sure that the holes are going to line up with the holes in the frame. Now we'll take a half inch bolt with flat washer and split lock washer. We'll get it started into the threaded hole on the cross rail. We'll do that same thing for the other cross rail here. Once we've got this one started, we'll got to the other side and do that same thing. Now lift the side plates. We'll take 1 of our fish wires and fish the coiled end. We'll send it through the hole in the frame, and then come out 1 of the larger holes on the inside of the frame rail. We'll take a square-holed spacer block and a 5 eighths inch carriage bolt, thread it into our coiled end, then we'll pull them back into the frame through that hole, and out through the hole in the side of the frame, then we'll move to the other hole on the side bracket and do the same thing. With the bolt pulled all the way out, you can remove the fish wire and install a 5/8 flange nut. We'll just run it down finger tight and do that same thing on our other bolt, and then we'll move to the other side and do that same thing. I'm going to take a 3/4 inch socket and just snug up the bolts, the thread, into our front and rear cross rails. Now go to the other side and do the same thing. CURT gives us this template to help make it easier to identify where with have to drill the hole in the bed in order for the gooseneck ball to come up through. Here's the front, we'll have that arrow going towards the front. We'll want to make sure that the little flanges come down because then they line up with the holes in the rails, so we can install a half inch bolt in each one, 1 in the front rail and then 1 in the rear rail back here. I want to make sure that the template stays square with the bottom of our cross rails, and then we'll just snug our bolts down. Now we'll take a quarter inch drill bit and drill through this hole as our guide. Now that we've got that pilot hole drilled out, we can take our template back out. Now I'll use a hole saw to drill out this hole to the size indicated in the instructions. Now the exposed edge that we have here around the hole that we cut, I'm going to take a little bit of spray paint and coat that so that it isn't exposed and likely to rust. We'll need to lower our exhaust before we put our center section up into place. There's a few exhaust hangers, there's 1 back here. In order to remove it, we'll take a little bit of spray lubricant, and you can use a pry bar in order to slide that off of there. There are two more just in front of our rear axle. You want to make sure to put a support strap up so that when you loosen all the hangers on your exhaust, it doesn't go too far and possible damage the exhaust system. We'll use that same process to remove the one here in front of the rear axle. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help put the hitch up into place. With the hitch up in place. You want to be sure to get your half inch bolts with flat washer and lock washer started into the threaded holes on each cross rail. Using a 3 quarter inch socket, we can begin tightening up all of our hardware that secures our center section to our cross rails. We'll go back and torque down our bolts to the specification listed in the instructions. Now we'll torque down both sets of bolts for our side plates and torque them down to their specifications in the instructions. The nuts on these 5/8 bolts are going to be a 15/16 socket. Now we've got everything torqued down, take a drill bit to drill a pilot hole in our safety chain loops here. Try to get them in the lowest part of the corrugation of the bed. Now that I've got all my pilot holes drilled for my safety chain connections, I'll come up top here and drill them out the rest of the way, stepping up drill bit sizes until I've reached the final size. Once you've got the holes drilled out to the appropriate size, we can take our safety chain u-bolts and insert them. You want to make sure that they'll move up and down easily. On each stud for the u-bolts, we'll put 1 of these flat washers and 1 of our springs, followed by another flat washer, then we'll take half inch nylon lock nut and get it started. We'll do that on the other 3 studs of our 2 safety chain u-bolts. Now we can tighten up our lock nuts on our u-bolts. When we tighten them, we want the bottom of that bolt to be flush with the opening in that lock nut. Now we can insert our locking pin into the holes in the side. You want to make sure that the hole that goes through is on top. From the outside, you can begin to put the handle into place 00:14:57, through the hole, and then once through that inner hole, you want to be sure to slide the spring over, then slide it into the top of our locking pin, and then you'll need to get the hole in the handle lined up with the hole in the locking pin. You've done that, you can take your bolt. Push through, you can put on nylon lock nut. You'll need a 7 millimeter wrench or socket, and an 8 millimeter wrench or socket. Now we'll reinstall our exhaust. Next we'll reinstall the inner fender well. After reinstalling the inner fender liner on the driver's side, where we've got the handle, you'll see that it's covered. We'll need to trim that in order to be able to use our handle. Now we've got room in order to use that handle. We'll reinstall our spare tire heat shield, and then we'll put our spare tire back up underneath the truck. That's going to complete our look at and installation of the CURT Double Lock Flip and Store Under-bed Gooseneck hitch with installation kit, part number C607-604, on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD.

Perfect fit, really snug and tight. Good to have a jack laying around to lift the gooseneck into the right spot to fit bolts into their spots. Towed a 15k trailer to Texas with no complaints. Great gooseneck so far 697332

Very satisfied with hitch . Installation was Easy , except drill template was made improperly and extra measurements were required prior to drilling 4" ball hole. Also would suggest that Curt should clean paint out of all threaded holes prior to shipping. 269832

Great product with easy fit on my 2017 GMC 2500HD long box. Installed from garage floor and took about 4.5 hours. Had a little problem with the template as instructions have it reversed when viewed from underneath truck. Video was great help all the way through! 644496

I ordered my hitch on Tuesday afternoon and received it Friday morning. Saturday morning I put it took about 3 1/2 hours to install which included 45 minutes to get the lock off the spare tire. Struggled to get the bolts in the frame but other than that everything went smooth. It looks real nice in the bed of my 2500 chev. Now to finish lunch and hook onto the trailer and go. 478582

Wonderful customer service parts arrived as promised. The box was damaged doing ship but everything was still there. Very easy installation. The front rail and goose neck plate have a indention to clear fuel tank. The indention still rubs the fuel tank, I had to pry up on the rails before tightening the side mounts. Other then that everything else was pretty smooth. 487673

Great product, easy install. E-trailer shipped it fast but when I received my hitch UPS destroyed the box in transit and I was missing a lot of stuff. One quick call to customer service and Bryan W had the missing parts shipped out that day! I highly recommend etrailer and will be a future customer 453874

I think this gooseneck hitch is the best for newer Sierra/Silverado HD trucks. I installed it a week ago with the help of my father-in-law and his car lift. Took about 4 hours moving slowly and taking our time. Everything fit well and bolted right up. I also reinstalled the foil heat shield after removing one mounting ear. I did not drop the exhaust or the plastic heat shield and still got everything in. I chose this specific kit because it did not require notching the bed seam when installing the rails. It also has a higher tongue load rating than the others and was cheaper. The only major criticism I have is the pull wire and carriage bolts. My chassis has weld nuts and I would have preferred to use those over carriage bolts pulled into the chassis. I am thankful there were access holes almost inline with the mounting holes. That made it easy to put pressure on the bolt heads so they didn’t fall back. I also think the gasket around the big hole should be one piece to make it look cleaner. I used black silicone rtv to smooth the transition and adhere the gasket in place. Overall I am completely satisfied with the kit and the help of Shawn B who got my order in, had it shipped that same day and followed up with me after delivery. Thanks etrailer and Shawn B. 468718

It’s been one year since I installed this gooseneck hitch on my truck. The video was straightforward and I was able to install an afternoon. Since then I have towed my horse trailer several thousand miles in all sorts of climates and conditions with absolutely no issues. Only suggestion , Is make sure every six months or so you lube the height of all lever and mechanism to prevent sticking. I installed this hitch for a fraction of what all the local trailer and towing stores quoted me. 546020

This company helped me from step 1 on deciding which gooseneck hitch to go with, installation videos and checking up on after receipt of the hitch. The hitch was super easy to install with the template for drilling the hole that was included, this hitch by far exceeds the little extra touches you get with a more expensive hitch, the pull handle is a heavier gage, the double locking pin, and even the dust cover to keep out the dirt and gravel from the turnover ball! • Recommended Curt Gooseneck Hitch for 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
I do have a solution for you, however the Curt Double Lock Underbed Gooseneck Hitch # C607-604 referenced in your question is only designed to fit the 2018 Silverado 2500 or 3500 that features a longer bed. It will not work on your Silverado 1500 that has the 5-1/2 foot bed. For the Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch that is designed to fit your truck you instead need the part # C615-632. This is confirmed to fit and includes custom brackets that use existing holes in the truck's frame...

Yes it will! The Curt Double Lock, Flip and Store Underbed Gooseneck Hitch # C607-604 will fit in your 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500. To install this kit in another truck you will need Curt 600 Series Gooseneck Installation Kit for Chevy/GMC # C60604.

I attached a link to the install instructions and an install video for the hitch for you to check out as well. If your truck was a short bed the center of the gooseneck hole would need to be 44 inches from the rear truck bed rail. If instead you had a long bed the dimension would be 48-7/8 inches instead.

  • How to Tell the Difference Between the Curt Double Lock & EZr Gooseneck Hitch
If you could send me a picture of the gooseneck hitch you have installed in your 2017 GMC Sierra 2500 then I would be able to make a more educated guess but based on your description you have the Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch part # C607-604 and the correct adapter would indeed be part # C16210. However, if the gooseneck hitch was installed at the dealer then you would have had the Curt EZr Gooseneck Hitch part # C611-624 and the correct adapter would be part # C16220. I have attached...

If you have the Double Lock # C607-604 then you can use the X5 Adapter # C16210, but if you have the EZr Double Lock # C611-624 you will want to use the X5 Adapter # C16220 instead. Either one of these options will provide you with a standard base plate kit for you to use a 5th wheel hitch with standard...

  • Gooseneck Adapter Compatibility with 21,000 lbs Toy Hauler 5th Wheel
We no longer carry the Andersen Ultimate you reference, but according to what I can find online is rated for 24,000 lbs towing capacity. So you won't have any problem with the hitch itself. You will need to determine the weight capacity of your Curt gooseneck. For instance the Curt hitches for a 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500 are # C607-604, # C611-624, and # C61301-52 all of which are rated for 30,000 lbs. As long as your gooseneck hitch capacity is over the 21,000 lbs, you will be fine...

  • Which Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch Fits 2001 GMC Sierra 2500
The Curt gooseneck hitch # C607-604 does not fit your 2001 GMC Sierra 2500. For that you'd want the part # C60712 instead which is a fit for your truck. I attached an install video for this kit for you to check out as well. Instead of picking out a hitch by dimension it's much easier and more effective to go by what the manufacturer recommends for the vehicle.

I have great news! With the Curt Double Lock Flip and Store Underbed Gooseneck Hitch # C607-604 installed on your truck you can use the Demco Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM8550045. This will attach directly to the 2-5/16 inch Curt gooseneck ball to provide you with an extremely durable 5th wheel hitch. • How to Tell Difference Between Curt EZr and Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch
Easiest way to tell which gooseneck hitch you have is by looking at the safety cable loops. If they are about as wide as the gooseneck ball hole and are centered with the ball hole it's an EZr, if the safety chain loops are a smaller and offset then it's a double lock. Take a look at the pictures of the EZR part # C611-624 and the # C607-604 and compare your safety chain setup to both of these. Let me know which yours matches and we can go from there. The part # C16210 is for the...

  • Solution for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with Curt Double-Lock Hitch on 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500
While we do have other options for you, the only way to use the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500 or # BWRVK3400 is by having the entire B&W Gooseneck Hitch # BWGNRK1016 installed on your 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 as there isn't a way to safely fit different parts of gooseneck hitches together. With that being said, I'm a little curious about the gooseneck hitch you currently have installed. Reason being that the Chevy factory gooseneck hitch would have needed all of the pucks installed as well...

  • Gooseneck Hitch Installation of 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
There are underbed gooseneck hitches that fit a 2018 and 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 but the Curt # C61652 is not one of them. Instead I recommend checking out the Curt Double Lock, Flip and Store Underbed Gooseneck Hitch w/ Installation Kit # C607-604 which fits both the '18 and '19 Silverado 2500 and has a gooseneck ball which can be stored upside down in the hitch for complete access to your truck bed.

  • Best Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500
The best gooseneck trailer hitch for your 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500 is by far the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1016 because it has a square base for its hitch ball which ensures optimal strength and durability. What makes the B&W the best option, and separates it from the likes of the Curt Double Lock # C607-604 which also fits your '19 Silverado 3500, is that the hitch ball of the B&W gooseneck hitch has a square shank that fits directly in the base, and...

For your 2017 GMC 2500 Denali, I recommend the Curt EZr Double Lock Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch with Installation Kit - 30,000 lbs # C611-624 is a confirmed fit as is the Curt Double Lock, Flip and Store Underbed Gooseneck Hitch w/ Installation Kit - 30,000 lbs # C607-604. The only major difference between these two is the tongue weight rating of the Double Lock is 7500 lbs compared to the 6,000 lbs of The EZr Double Lock. The other difference is in the safety chain loop locations...

When installing the Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose hitch # 9465-56, the hitch ball hole location is 45-3/8 inches from the rear of the truck bed and is centered between the wheel wells. For the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck # BWGNRK1012, the hitch ball hole is 49-1/2 inches from the back of the truck bed. • Will The Firestone Airbags Work with the Curt Gooseneck Hitch on a 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500
Yes, the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2596 will work with the Curt Gooseneck Hitch part # C61301-52 for overbed and part # C607-604 for under bed and are a confirmed fit for your 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500. For your 2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD short bed, you can use the Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch and Rail Installation Kit, # C607-604. My contact at Curt said that with a 6 foot bed and diesel the installation kit should still fit. Since you do have a short bed and crew cab, you may also need an offset ball. You can use # C602 which is compatible with the Double Lock hitch and has a 4 inch offset.
