Say your truck has a gooseneck hitch for towing your horse trailer, but you want to go camping with your new fifth wheel. You could outfit your truck with a new fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to your existing gooseneck hitch, but that means having to move a heavy, bulky hitch into and out of your truck bed all the time.
You could also purchase an adapter that bolts onto your trailer's existing pin box. But adding a new component to your setup can keep your pin box from working how it was designed. King pin adapters can create a stiff ride and can even strain your fifth wheel's frame by adding too much height at the connection point.
A better option is to use this gooseneck-compatible pin box to easily tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your truck's gooseneck hitch. The box replaces your trailer's existing pin box, which means it's designed to act as a part of your trailer instead of simply bolting over your king pin like an adapter does.
If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.
This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.
Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box adapter. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the coupler tube, which connects to the gooseneck hitch ball in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the coupler tube will move accordingly.
Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler end moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the coupler's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.
The Gen-Y pin box adapter makes hooking up your trailer easy thanks to its automatic latch. When your hitch ball moves into the coupler tube, the latch instantly engages. No need to manually close the socket once the coupler is on the ball.
Disconnecting is fast and easy too. This normally requires that you crawl into your truck bed to access and release the latch. But the Gen-Y adapter box can be disconnected from outside of your truck bed. The included cable attaches to the latch on the coupler's base. Just run the cable up your trailer frame and secure it in a convenient place. When you're ready to disengage the coupler, simply pull the cable to release the ball from the socket. No need to climb into your truck bed.
The vertical load, or pin weight, refers to the weight that a fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball in the truck bed. Too little vertical load can cause trailer sway and too much can cause poor performance.
This Gen-Y pin box has a built-in mechanical scale so that you can check to see if your vertical load is too high or too low. The highest arrow on the scale indicates your maximum vertical load (5,500 lbs). The lowest arrow indicates no vertical load (0 lbs).

Hello everybody. This is Jeff with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this GenY Executive Fifth-Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box with the Auto Latch coupler. And this is for the Fabex and the M&M six six five pin boxes. This has a 25,000 pound towing capacity. Now this Fifth-Wheel to Gooseneck Adaptor pin box will let you tow your Fifth-Wheel trailer with your gooseneck hitch.
This Fifth-Wheel pin box will replace the factory pin box that's on your trailer. And this one is designed for, to replace the Fabex and M&M six six five Fifth-Wheel pin boxes. Now to install it on those pin boxes, it does also include the five-eighths inch diameter mounting hardware which is required for mounting it to those Fabex and M&M pin boxes. Now this coupler attaches to your trucks two and five 16th diameter gooseneck hitch ball. This does use the shock absorbing design to ensure a nice, smooth, steady ride.
The technology functions, just like a torsion axle. Limits the transfer of the road shock from the trailer to your truck and vice versa. Helps reduce chucking and rough fore-and-aft motion, and it limits bounce and jarring up and down motion. Also what's nice is there's no air bags that you have to maintain and fewer moving parts to repair or replace than with other shock absorbing solutions. This one does offer this auto latch coupler with the cable.
What's nice about that, this auto latch coupler will make hooking up your trailer very easy. Basically, all you have to do is to hook up. When your hitch ball moves in over the cup or the coupler tube moves over the hitch ball and it drops on the hitch ball, the latch will instantly engage it and you're all ready to go. There's no need to have to manually close the socket on there once the coupler's on the ball. And also disconnecting is just as fast and easy.
You can see it as the cable here. Normally it would require you get into the truck bed, access, release the latch, but this Gen Y adapter box can be disconnected from outside of your truck bed using this included cable. As you can see, it attaches to that latch there and all you have to do when you're standing outside the truck bed is just pull on the cable and you can see when you pull that cable, just by pulling it it'll release the latch and it really sit from the ball. So there's no need to have to climb into the truck bed. Get in and out of your truck bed. Just pull this cable as you're standing outside and release it. Now this GenY pin box also has a built-in mechanical scale so that you can check to see if the vertical load is too high or too low. Now the vertical loader pin rate refers to the weight that a fully loaded trailer will exert downward on the hitch ball in the truck bed. So I wanna zoom in and just show you what we're talking about. Here is the scale, you can see. Too little of a vertical load could cause trailer sway, too much can cause poor performance. So when you look at the scale, what you wanna look for is you'll see the white mark right there. That white mark, once you load this and hookup, that white mark will move along that scale. So if it's in the highest red area at the very top here that means it's indicating the maximum vertical load which is 5,500 pounds. If it's in the lower red scale like it is right now, it's showing zero pounds. So avert the vertical load. You want it to be in that green area right in the middle there. That's recommended because then this built-in shock absorption will function effectively. So once you get that white mark right in that green area then you're all ready to go. You have the right vertical load on it. Now we'll talk about these cross-shaped holes. You can see these slots on this side and same on this side. Those will provide attachment points for your safety chains. Now safety chains are required to keep your Fifth-Wheel attached to your tow vehicle. Now the safety chains are not included. We do sell those separately. They are listed on this product page as a related product. But they would attach right to the slots on each side there. This is a heavy duty steel construction. Has a nice powder coat finish to resist wear and corrosion. It has a simple bolt-on installation. As we've mentioned, it comes with the included mounting bolts. This part is made in the USA. Towing capacity is 25,000 pounds and the pin weight capacity is 5,500 pounds. But that should do it for the review on this GenY Executive Fifth-Wheel. The Gooseneck Pin Box with the Auto Latch coupler for the Fabex and M&M six six five pin boxes..
