Say your truck has a gooseneck hitch for towing your horse trailer, but you want to go camping with your new fifth wheel. You could outfit your truck with a new fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to your existing gooseneck hitch, but that means having to move a heavy, bulky hitch into and out of your truck bed all the time.
You could also purchase an adapter that bolts onto your trailer's existing pin box. But adding a new component to your setup can keep your pin box from working how it was designed. King pin adapters can create a stiff ride and can even strain your fifth wheel's frame by adding too much height at the connection point.
A better option is to use this gooseneck-compatible pin box to easily tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your truck's gooseneck hitch. The box replaces your trailer's existing pin box, which means it's designed to act as a part of your trailer instead of simply bolting over your king pin like an adapter does.
If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.
This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.
Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box adapter. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the coupler tube, which connects to the gooseneck hitch ball in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the coupler tube will move accordingly.
Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler end moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the coupler's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.
The Gen-Y pin box adapter makes hooking up your trailer easy thanks to its automatic latch. When your hitch ball moves into the coupler tube, the latch instantly engages. No need to manually close the socket once the coupler is on the ball.
Disconnecting is fast and easy too. This normally requires that you crawl into your truck bed to access and release the latch. But the Gen-Y adapter box can be disconnected from outside of your truck bed. The included cable attaches to the latch on the coupler's base. Just run the cable up your trailer frame and secure it in a convenient place. When you're ready to disengage the coupler, simply pull the cable to release the ball from the socket. No need to climb into your truck bed.
The vertical load, or pin weight, refers to the weight that a fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball in the truck bed. Too little vertical load can cause trailer sway and too much can cause poor performance.
This Gen-Y pin box has a built-in mechanical scale so that you can check to see if your vertical load is too high or too low. The highest arrow on the scale indicates your maximum vertical load (2,000 lbs). The lowest arrow indicates no vertical load (0 lbs). For the built-in shock absorption to function effectively, the scale's white indicator marker should be between the highest arrow and the middle arrow when you hook up your trailer to tow.

I would definitely purchase this again!
The pinbox is great. My only suggestion is to order one size larger than you think you need. The shock absorbers on my hitch is maxed out so it is not utilizing all its capabilities.
Allows me to tow my 17000 lb camper better and easier than towing my 10000 lb trailer. Removes the jerking between truck and trailer just like they say.

The fifth wheel to gooseneck converter is exceptionally good no jerking around on the truck better than my regular gooseneck box trailer
timely order delivery, followed etrailer's installation video and the gooseneck pin box was installed in one hour. I had some help positioning the gooseneck in the trailer frame box. The first 100 miles journey was effortless with my 2500 GMC.
Great product , highly recommended .

Very well made product, next step is to install it and start towing the trailer.
If you have a short bed truck do not buy this gooseneck. At first it seem fine but unless it’s a long bed it’s shorter than you think. If you go up a small incline sideways so the rear of your RV will not scrape it will give enough to crush the side of your truck. I thought the gooseneck would give me a little more length or space and it did not it was actually shorter only in a long bed truck would you get better space

It is possible that you could use this adapter with a 6.5 foot bed however there would be measuring that would be done and possibly a different set up in your bed. You would need a gooseneck system that would allow you to use an offset bed that would give you more room. You would also want to use the formula found in the ask the experts answer that I have linked below.

Excellent choice excellent service
The gen-y hitch is awesome. Very glad I switched from 5th wheel to gooseneck. Love having the extra space and with the removal of the puck ball I have a full open bed. The gen-y torsion system makes for a smooth ride
received in a timely manner. the shock absorber may help up and down motion but on short test drive i still felt back and forth jerking. my other gooseneck bent tho so still happy with how solid this looks and i think i wont have issues with it breaking.

I’ve owned many trailers with many different styles of hitch’s. This hitch makes your trailer float behind the truck, there is no noise, no surging. One of the very best hitch’s I have ever had.
Works great. Trailer stays attached to the truck most of the time.
Nice product. Very heavy duty.

Best decision I’ve ever made…regarding a trailer! This is a must if you have a traditional 5th wheel!
