Gooseneck-to-Fifth-Wheel Hitch Adapter

Increase your towing versatility with this Hi-Rise adapter. The fifth-wheel hitch mounts in the ball hole of your existing underbed gooseneck hitch with included posts.

Hi-Rise adapter round and square mounting postsHi-Rise adapter mounting post installed

Round and Square Gooseneck Posts

The posts screw into the bottom of fifth-wheel hitch and drop down into the ball hole on the underbed gooseneck hitch. A square post is included for use with B&W gooseneck hitches, and a round post is included for use with Bulldog, Draw-Tite and Reese gooseneck hitches. Both posts can be adjusted for height to ensure a tight, secure fit with the truck bed floor.

Hi-Rise adapter self-latching jawHi-Rise adapter self-latching jaw underside

Single-Piece, Self-Latching Jaw

The fifth-wheel head has a single-piece, self-latching jaw with an extended-length handle for easy operation. The jaw wraps tightly around your trailer king pin and automatically latches in place when connected properly to ensure safe towing. The handle can be locked with a padlock (37DAT; sold separately).

Hi-Rise wide kingpin funnel

4-Way Pivoting Head

The fifth-wheel head pivots 4 degrees side to side and 10 degrees front to back to ensure easy trailer hookup, even on ground that is not level. A 9-inch-wide funnel area (rather than a standard 6-inch-wide funnel) provides a large target for lining up your trailer king pin with the fifth-wheel hitch.

Hi-Rise adjustable height head

Adjustable Height

The fifth-wheel head has 3-3/4" of vertical adjustment to accurately match your particular trailer's height. Simply remove four bolts - two per side - and move the head up or down to your desired height.

Hi-Rise stabilizer strips - inside viewHi-Rise stabilizer strips with capped leg

Stabilizer Strips for Corrugated Truck Beds

The fifth-wheel hitch includes stabilizer strips that attach to the bottom of your fifth-wheel legs. The strips sit in the grooves of the truck bed to provide a more level mounting surface and to create more friction with the truck bed. This makes it less likely that the hitch will rotate or move during use.

Hi-Rise offset legs

Offset Legs

The fifth-wheel base has offset legs to improve the braking performance of your trailer. The longer back legs brace the hitch to ensure that it stays planted in the truck bed, even during emergency braking situations.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter Installation - 2005 Dodge Ram Pickup

Today on our 2005 Dodge Ram pickup, we'll be installing the Draw-Tite Hi-Rise gooseneck-to-5th-wheel trailer hitch adaptor, part number 9480. First we'll need to assemble the unit, so we'll go ahead and take the head assembly bracket and install it onto the base unit. To secure the bracket to the base unit, we'll use the 5/8 bolt along with the 5/8 split lock washer. Special note: This is also where you'll get the adjustment for your head unit. We'll go ahead and set ours at the third level, or second from highest level for this application. With all of our hardware in place, we can now go ahead and tighten and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions.

Next, we'll go ahead and install the head springs. This will help keep the pitch of the head and keep the nose down. We'll be using the hardware provided with our install kit, which will be the 1/4" bolt and 1/4" flat washer, spacer, and spring. We'll take the flat washer, put it onto the bolt, followed by the spacer, run it through the spring, and secure it to the head bracket assembly. We'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the opposite side.

Now with both of those installed, we ready to go ahead and take the entire base unit and set it into the vehicle. Here we'll take the king pin funnel into the base unit, securing it with the 5/8 conical tooth washer and 5/8 lock nut. Then we'll go ahead and set the base unit into the gooseneck hole, locking it into position. Next, we'll need to secure the side fastener on the king pin funnel. This will be a narrow bolt that we'll use the 5/8 pull wire to pull up from underneath the vehicle into position, and then secure it with a 5/8 conical tooth washer and nut.

We'll go ahead and take the bolt leader, feed it through the attachment point, and underneath the vehicle. Then we'll get underneath the vehicle and thread the narrow bolt onto the bolt leader and pull it up into position. Once we have it in position, we'll go ahead and remove the bolt leader, slide on our conical tooth washer, and then the nut. Now we can go ahead and tighten down both of the king pin funnel fasteners. Now with both fasteners tightened down, we'll go ahead and adjust the stabilizer strips underneath the legs of the base unit, and make sure they're in the valleys of the bed grooves.

Once they are, we'll go ahead and mark them, raise the base unit back up, and tighten them down. Next, we'll go ahead and install the end caps onto the base unit, covering up the hardware for the stabilizer strips. Now with that done, we're ready to go ahead and install the head unit onto the bracket. We'll set the head unit in place and take the pins provided to secure it into position, and then put on the safety clips. Next, we'll go ahead and install the handle to the head unit. Take the handle, slide it into position, and then drop the carriage bolt down through it, and secure it with a split lock washer and nut. And just like that, we are completely assembled and secured and ready to hit the road. And that does it for the installation of the Draw-Tite Hi-Rise gooseneck-to-5th-wheel hitch adaptor, part number 9480, on our 2005 Dodge Ram pickup.

Good product but the way it gets shipped the main part gets dinged and marred. Paint scratched off, the warning decals were damaged. 418909

Thanks for your review, Scott. I have contacted customer service to send new warning decals to you.

Not recommended at all in a short box. The hitch sits 5" forward on center axle. Cab clearance is greatly reduced. Hitch doesn't even come close to sitting flat in the truck. Hitch is very sloppy in the Goose Neck receiver. I had to spend a lot of time and money to have the hitch reworked. The only reason I gave a 2 star rating is because of the Great Customer Service at ETrailer!!! Otherwise it would get no stars!!!! 420162

Clarke,Thank you for your review. This hi-rise adapter is not recommended in a short bed truck. This adapter will not provide enough clearance in tight turning situations. A slider hitch is normally recommended in short bed trucks but Draw-tite does not manufacture a slider version of this adapter. If you have a hide-a-goose setup you can use a convert a ball adapter with an offset. Part number: C5GX1216. This will allow you to use your gooseneck hitch in your short bed truck to tow a 5th wheel. The coupler bolts to your trailers king pin and connects to the gooseneck ball. The offset should give you enough clearance to make tight turns. I have also included a help article for additional reference.

Other than being heavy to set in the truck bed, the hitch is easy to install into a B&W gooseneck and it stayed well secured without any shifting of the base for a 400 mile round trip towing a10k lb trailer. The 4 degree side to side tilt does not seem necessary and it does make it difficult to properly torque the mounting nut. The side to side tilt also adds a good bit of weight. 431910

- 9480

It's been a great hitch, worked just as it was supposed too. Easy to install. Unfortunately I recently bought a different trailer and this hitch will not work with it. So now I have to sell this hitch and buy another one. 628883

- 9480

I've owned this for a year now and it's performed as advertised. To be fair, the only other hitch I've used is a B&W companion hitch! Good product, fairly simple to install 599856

- 9480

We have put over 10,000 miles on our trailer this year. Easy in and out of truck with positive hook ups everytime. We also had a friend borrow our camper. We moved the hitch to their truck and within minutes they were ready to go 578662

Very pleased the the Draw-Tite 5th wheel hitch. Easy in/easy out by myself. Have an electric hoist in my shop, easily store the the hitch in the overhead when not in use. Like the idea of no additional holes in the bed for a 5th wheel hitch. Have been using it for a year, no problems. All the components are more than adequate for the expected loading. I would recommend it to anyone that needs a 5th wheel hitch. 545684

The product was good the people at etrailer we're great.. now for the shipping the shipping sucked UPS I would never use them again every time I got the boxes they were torn up looks like they went through a meat grinder in fact I had to send back the first order cuz we didn't know if all the parts were there then when I got the second order it was just as bad. 490134

- 9480

Straightforward instructions and easy install. Worked fine and handled our 11k lbs fiver with no problems. Got to destination, took hitch off and I can again use my gooseneck ball and/or have full use of the bed w/out any fiver hitch rails. Highly recommended 436857

Arrived on time box was destroyed 2 bolts & nuts missing 422429

- 9480

I ordered this hitch, when it came in the box was damaged and parts missing. Called them had the missing parts in a few days. Hitch is great and was the best price around. etrailers is an excellent company to do business with. 419335

- 9480

What a wonderful experance I have had working with etrailer. The follow-up and concern to make it right, was over whelming. My wife counted five phone calls, to keep us infromed about a lost box, by UPS. When found the box was danaged and a part was missing. The part was FedX to me next day! I know i will be using etrailer again. 411649

- 9480

So far everything that I have purchased for my HD 2500 from each trailer has worked as described satisfied 399241

- 9480

The reason I didn't rate it higher is it doesn't sit real flat in the bed and bangs around a little when starting and stopping. Otherwise I would be happier if it was easier to remove. 388284

- 9480

Fit, finish, instructions and overall quality are top notch. Assembly is easy with basic tools. Customer Service here was great too. Because I was in a real rush to get the hitch, they went out of their way to break it up into two shipments that could be handled by UPS vs having it one package that had to come truck freight. As a result, I got it when I needed it. Thank you very much, Larry. 324071

Still very pleased.

  • Gooseneck vs 5th Wheel Hitch for Towing My RV Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • A gooseneck adapter that is designed for towing a fifth-wheel trailer, like the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter, # CAB-C5G, is normally used when a person already has a gooseneck trailer hitch installed in the truck and needs to tow both gooseneck and 5th wheel trailers. These adapters are a good solution, but do not provide as nice a ride when towing a fifth wheel trailer. If your truck does not have a hitch installed I would recommend going with a fifth-wheel...

  • Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a Gooseneck Trailer Hitch

You will need to contact the trailer manufacturer to determine if the trailer warranty will be voided if an adapter is used. If the trailer has a Lippert chassis then I recommend using a Goose Box adapter because when used with a Lippert chassis and pin box, it will not void the warranty.
