Finding the Correct Size Fifth-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter

After backing the vehicle under the trailer, measure from the top of the ball in the truck bed to the base of the pin box on the trailer. This will indicate the height of the adapter that you need.

Convert-a-Ball Collar

Secure Installation

The included collar slides over your fifth-wheel trailer's king pin and is held in place with set screws. Additional, larger set screws that are mounted at the top of the coupler adapter then tighten onto the collar. Because this adapter is designed with an offset, the top lip of the adapter must also be bolted to the base of the pin box to ensure proper positioning.

Convert-a-Ball Locking Feature

Positive-Locking Feature

This trailer coupler adapter features a simple, secure latching mechanism for safe, easy hookup with the hitch ball. The convenient extension handle grabs the sliding latch so that you can easily lock or unlock the coupler from outside the truck bed. Once the coupler is engaged, hook the handle through the hole in the sliding latch's track to ensure that it remains securely coupled. For extra safety, once the coupler is latched, you can replace the handle with a padlock (sold separately) to secure the trailer to the hitch ball during towing. Use a lock while your trailer is being stored to guard against towaway theft.

Offset Design

This coupler adapter is specially designed for use with truck beds that are between 6 feet and 8 feet in length. The offset allows your trailer to sit a bit farther back than it normally would so that you can make turns safely and with confidence. Supplying that extra space between your trailer and truck cab creates the clearance necessary for you to make tight turns without your trailer hitting your cab.

Pin Box Length

Note: There are no recommended limits to the length of pin box on which the Convert-A-Ball trailer coupler can be used.

This is my first 5th wheel but I have several other gooseneck trailers that I tow on a regular basis. I didn't want to have to switch back and forth so I bought this adapter. I have a long bed but I have a chase rack on it that goes up over the cab. I really didn't want to have to remove it every time I wanted to tow my new toy hauler so I got the offset hitch. Install was very straight forward. Took me about 40 min. to install. The hardest part was getting the bolts in as mine has the long pin box and it was all I could do to reach the holes. I don't have very many miles on it but it tows great. I didn't notice any difference from my other gooseneck trailers.

So far so good. The order was processed perfectly. I just got the Convert a ball cushioned 5th wheel to goose-neck adapter with offset. I haven't even opened the boxes yet but when I do I'm sure I will have the same sense of satisfaction I get whenever I open something I've ordered from E-trailer. My satisfaction level right now is 100%. I will share photo's of the install.

I received this hitch about a year ago, it arrived with in a week of ordering it. The instructions were simple to understand. It did say it will take two person to install. I was able to install it by myself with in a few hours, What I like about this hitch is that I still have use of my truck bed when unhook when traveling and I don’t have a fifthwheel to haul around. My camper pulls great with this hitch with no complaintion at all. It’s a great hitch.

Had a offset adapter w/o the cushion on my 28’ trailer. Towing w/ 2005 F250 powerstroke short bed. It would beat the crap out of you hauling it down the interstates in TX, LA, MS,OK. Put this on and wow what a difference it makes. Rides so much better. Wish I knew this existed long ago. Well worth the $$. Had a trailer service center install for me in MS. Has an opening by the latch that allows you to put a lock on the adapter to keep it secured when in storage.

worked excelent for the year that i owned this trailer. sinse have sold the whole traler and this hitch and was a definite point of sale to the new buyer. thanks

Terrible product!!! I installed it just like the instructions described. I have a 40' toy hauler and it was super jerky down the road and the offset rotates with the trailer so it digs into the side of the truck be since now the king pin is longer. Even with [see installation instrucitons for correct torque]ftlbs the set screws don't hold and it slides down. Strongly advise against using this product! At least now I can have an $800 boat anchor!

Picked this up to use on a instead of trying to change out my goose neck to a kingpin and it mounted up nicely and towed great. going to be heading cross country in a few days and hoping it will stand up to the traveling.

Owned a year now GREAT product. Made very well. Installed in 40 minutes in dealership parking lot. Trailer towed beautifully thanks to cushion in system.

This hitch adapter is heavy duty. It's easy for two people to install in under an hour and all parts fit together well. The instructions were well written in English, which is the official language of our country (USA). The offset adapter works great with my 2011 Ram 2500 4x4 which sits higher due to oversized tires. My shipment was received two days after I ordered it without paying any expedited freight charges! Thanks to the Convert-A-Ball and the fine folks at etrailer.com my days of listening to a clanging 5th wheel hitch are over. Thank you etrailer.

I was not explained about having to drill holes in my fith wheel hitch. This was difficult to do and when done it was not level, very difficult to take trailer off truck, had to use a jack. I had to redo and had to add spacers between fithwheel and gooseneck. This might have been better if I had not got the 7 inch offset, this tended to pull the bolts out of the fith wheel platform. I had to redo this hitch three times.

Wow what a great product! Instructions were great and very easy to install. I did it by myself in under a half hour. Looks very strong and better than expected. Arrived in just a few days.

Easy to install. Super easy to use. Hook up is so simple and fast. Best purchase that I made after buying my 5th wheeler. This Convert a Ball Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Adjuster have not weathered at all over the last year. They are both still in prime condition, no rusting.

I bought this adaptor about a year ago and I have to say it has been worth every penny that I paid! I have an 8ft bed with a tool box in the back so having the offset worked great, giving me more ability to turn the trailer right where I needed it to get. Install was fairly simple but you'll want at least 1 more person to help since it weighs almost 90lbs. Have a torque wrench handy to. All in all I recommend this to anyone who has a gooseneck ball in the bed of their truck who wants to own a 5th wheel trailer!

- CAB-C5GX1216
by:

Got it ahead of schedule. Simple to put together. Still need to go pick up the trailer. It is what I was looking for after years of a hitch I could not get out of the bed without a couple guys. Plus the extra room. Will see how it pulls and let you know. Randy P.

I wish I would have installed this years ago. Took it on its 1st trip up the Northern Coast of California, pulled so nice, and when we got to the camp ground I had nothing in my bed. I installed it by myself in about 2 hours, took it off and on about 4 times. It took me the longest to tap the threads 2 of the bolts I could get the nuts and lock washers on but 2 had to be threaded. I had drill bits and taps so that was a no cost, I would suggest that if you have to thread holes go buy good drill bits and a tap, do it right. After it was completed and I did a test drive backed it into my side yard and I could not get the trailer off the ball, I thought it was stuck, it was not I just didn't notice how much the cushion travels I thought I was lifting the trailer to high. Anyhow I love it and it was reasonably priced.

After installing the gooseneck, hooking it up to trailer, I was not impressed on the function of this gooseneck(recommended for short bed truck). Towing my trailer was like pulling the entire railroad pacific behind me.. Lot of tugging jerking. When I arrived to my destination the gooseneck had dropped down in the front giving it a dropped and sideways location instead of the installed and aligned position... Gooseneck was rated for up to 14,000 pounds.. I was towing only 9,000.. My vehicle struggled even though it is a GMC 2500 with all the gear......

by:

Easy Hook Up - No 5th Wheel Saddle to remove when you want the bed of your truck back for other use, you simply flip your goose neck ball over - very stable on the road even in High Wind situations - with 8" offset it gives you extra turning radius with the Cab of the Truck - doesn't bind when you are backed into low or high spot, which happens with the King Pin of lower cost fifth wheel hitches - ininstallation instructions were very Good

- CAB-C5GX1216

Heavy duty. Two man job to install. Needed longer bolts but manufacturer was very helpful. Tows great, totally satisfied with product and service. I tow a 33foot Carri- lite fifth wheel rv (14000 lbs) with a 2016 F350 4x4 super cab with an 8 foot bed.

The CAB-C5GX1216 was the perfect fix for my situation, I have a 1997 Dodge ram 3500 Flatbed with a goosneck , i went with this so that i would not have to do away with my goosneck , and to give me more clearance for sharp turns. I would recommend this to anyone that uses a goosneck alot like i do, I had it installed in about 1 1/2 hours. The CAB-C5GX1216 is really well made. Really fast shipping and great service super nice people. What ever you buy from Etrailer you know that you get a great product and a great price. Thanks for all you guys do at etrailer

Ordered CAB-C5GX1216 Gooseneck adapter on a Thursday and had it at my house on Monday in Ohio. Took about an hour to install it by myself. Very well made heavy duty adapter. Have not towed with it yet but did have it hooked up to the truck to adjust height off of bed. Flip the Red lever to lock or unlock, very easy to use.

I love this adapter. I have a short bed truck. Without this extender, I could not pull my Fifth wheel travel trailer. I just went and looked at the video about again to look at the process for leveling. It is very easy to understand.

The first thing I recommend doing is simply making sure that your 2017 Ford F-250 has the towing capacity needed to pull the Grand Design Solitude 373FB Trailer. Or you can let me know what pin box you have and I will make a recommendation...

  • How To Measure Clearance on Ford F-250 Short Bed to Determine if Offset Gooseneck Adapter is Needed
To determine the clearance needed on your F-250 Super Duty 6-1/2 foot bed, you need to take the width of your fifth wheel and divide by two. Then measure from the gooseneck hitch ball in the truck to the back of the truck cab. That dimension should be 4 inches more than your first measurement for correct clearance. For example, if your trailer measures 96 inches wide, take half (48 inches), then add 4 inches (52 inches). So if the measurement from the gooseneck hitch ball in the truck...

  • Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500 6-1/2 Bed
For short bed pickups like your 2018 GMC Sierra 2500 the 7-1/2" offset of the Convert-A-Ball Adapter # CAB-C5GX1216 often isn't enough. You can actually calculate your clearance by using the following formula: (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab (or gooseneck ball) B = Length of offset (slider clearance or offset) C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half) You need at least 4" of clearance to be able to make a 90 degree...

  • Can Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Gooseneck Adapter Work with Road Armor Pin Box
I do have a great solution for you, however the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5GX1216 cannot be used with the Road Armor pin box on your trailer. This is simply because the cushioned design coupled with the adapter will create too much stress at the connection point. This is actually the case with any of the similarly designed adapters we have available. Depending on what type of gooseneck hitch installed on your truck, you may be able to use a 5th wheel hitch adapter...

  • Compatibility of Gooseneck Hitch Adapter on 5-1/2 Foot Bed
The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset - 12" to 16" Tall # CAB-C5GX1216 is not recommended for beds smaller than 6 foot by the manufacturer because of the turning radius. It does have an offset of 7-1/2 inches from ball to kingpin centers, so you will need to determine if you want to take that risk since you won't need to make a 90 degree turn. The only gooseneck we have for your 5-1/2 foot bed with air suspension is the B&W # BWGNRK1309. So for your...

  • 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Duramax Towing 2015 Grand Design Solitude 325X 5th Wheel
The Chevrolet website lists the maximum 5th wheel towing capacity of the 2500 HD Duramax Crew Cab standard box 4WD truck as 15,800-lbs but it is always best to check your vehicle's owner's manual to confirm the capacity for your specific truck. If your trailer's GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) is 15K, then the truck will have just enough capacity. I suggest you choose a higher-rated hitch since hitches rated over 15K will give you the chance to have enhanced features not found on...
