Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

If you're towing a packed horse trailer, the last thing you want is for the horses to be jostled around while you're on the road. And if you're hauling heavy-duty construction equipment, you definitely don't want to feel sharp, jolting movement every time your trailer hits a bump. Driving over bumps, potholes, and uneven terrain causes road shock. This can result in a rough, bumpy ride for you and your cargo. It can even potentially damage your trailer. This Gen-Y Hitch gooseneck coupler is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth, and stable ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the coupler, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

gooseneck torsion

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y gooseneck coupler. This allows for movement between the base of the coupler, which connects to the ball in your truck bed, and the top tube of the coupler, which connects to your trailer. When your vehicle hits a bump, the base of the coupler will move up or down accordingly.

Built into the Gen-Y coupler are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler's base rises or falls, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the base's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

This type of shock-absorption system is easy to maintain. Just regularly apply grease to the built-in zerk to keep the components in working condition. No airbags to fill. No small parts to repair or replace. No hassle.

Offset Design Gives Extra Clearance When Towing

This Gen-Y gooseneck coupler has an offset design. The bottom of the coupler, where it attaches to the ball, is positioned 5-1/2" away from the coupler tube, which inserts into the outer tube on your trailer. This provides 5-1/2" of extra clearance, giving you more space between your truck cab and trailer when making tight turns.

Easy to Couple and Uncouple

The Gen-Y gooseneck coupler makes hooking up your gooseneck trailer easy thanks to its automatic latch. When your hitch ball moves into the coupler base, the latch instantly engages. No need to manually close the socket once the coupler is on the ball.

latch and cable

Disconnecting is fast and easy too. This normally requires you to crawl into your truck bed to access and release the latch. But the Gen-Y gooseneck coupler can be disconnected from outside of your truck bed. The included cable attaches to the latch on the coupler's base. Just run the cable up your trailer frame and secure it in a convenient place. When you're ready to disengage the coupler, simply pull the cable to release the ball from the socket. No need to climb into your truck bed.

Easily Check Your Vertical Load

The vertical load, or tongue weight, refers to the weight that a fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball of the tow vehicle. Too little vertical load can cause trailer sway and too much can cause poor performance.

scale upright

This Gen-Y gooseneck coupler has a built-in mechanical scale so that you can check to see if your vertical load is too high or too low. The highest arrow on the scale indicates your maximum vertical load (3,000 lbs). The lowest arrow indicates no vertical load (0 lbs). A vertical load of at least 1,500 lbs is recommended for the built-in shock absorption to function effectively. This means that the scale's white indicator marker should be between the highest arrow and the middle arrow when you hook up your trailer to tow.

Video Transcript for Review of Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Coupler - Coupler with Outer and Inner Tube - 325-GH-7002

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Gen-Y Gooseneck Coupler with Shock Absorption. The great benefit to having this coupler is that it's going to have the shock absorption already built into the coupler itself. We won't have to worry about any transferring of road shock from our trailer into our truck and vice versa. That's going to improve the overall ride for you and for anybody who's in the trailer itself, like your horses. This is going to have a system where the bars in side are torsion flex system are going to have rubber cords that are gonna absorb that shock, allows our trailer and truck to move independently to account for that lateral movement or that up and down movement. The other nice thing with that system is that there's not really much to maintain there. It's not like air bags, you have to constantly monitor the air pressure, make sure that they're loaded up, fix any leaks that might occur. With this there's just one grease zerk at the bottom of our coupler, so you'll want to periodically check that, make sure that's pumped full of grease and that everything is lubricated properly. This is also going to have our cable latch design, that's going to make hooking up to our trailer easier and quicker. It has a self-latching coupler, so that whenever it drops on top of the ball, it'll automatically latch in place, again, making hooking up a lot easier.

It has that offset design of 5-1/2 inches to promote better clearance between our truck and our trailer. A lot of times that can be one really big issue whenever you're hauling a Gooseneck trailer, is whenever you make a sharp turn, that trailer can get very close to the cab, so we can prevent any of those clearance issues there. It also has an added feature of a tongue weight scale at the back to help us figure out how much tongue weight we have loaded down on our trailer. This is going to work best, whenever it's loaded between 1500 and 3000 pounds. 3000 is gonna be the max vertical load limit for this coupler. You don't want to have this loaded too little, since that can cause sway in the trailer, but you also don't want to have it loaded down too much, 'cause that can cause the performance to drop from our coupler itself.

That's going to be a quick and easy way to indicate whether or not we've got that loaded up properly. There's gonna be a little white line painted on to the coupler itself and you'll want to have that sitting between the upmost spike on the scale and in between the middle portion of it. Between there, it's about right. 'Bout where you want it to be.Now, this is going to have an outer diameter of four inches, so work with coupler outer tubes that have that inner diameter of four inches. We'll have several different holes to make sure that we can get that lined up properly.

Comes with a pin and clip to get that attached. It also has our cable latch making coupling easy and everything is going to have a nice, sturdy steel construction with a black powdered coat finish, so we don't have to worry about rust and corrosion.Again, works with ball sizes 2-5/16 inches, the gross towing weight again is, 16,000 max vertical load limit and the max tongue weight is 3000 pounds, best working limit for that is between 1500 and 3000 pounds.Of course, you want to check all of your components, going all the way down to make sure that everything is up to the task. You're really only as strong as your weakest link and you also don't want to overload your vehicle that you're towing with, so keep all of that in mind.As far as the range of vertical adjustment, whenever you have this with your outer tube, it's going to be eight inches of adjustment, again that offset from the center of the ball hole to the center of the adjustment hole is 5-1/2 inches and the maximum travel at the pivot points whenever it's under a load is going to be two inches. This will actually flex up to two inches whenever it's loaded down.Again, our tube outer diameter is going to be four inches. This does come with a five year warranty from Gen-Y and this is a made in USA product. That's going to do it for our look at the Gen-Y Coupler with Shock Absorption..

Holes in hitch don’t line up with the hole in tube on my 2018 MAXXD Trailer. With holes lined up the hitch is offset towards passenger side of truck. Was really looking forward to working this hitch. Very disappointed 519707

There are situations where the existing outer tube of the gooseneck couple will not have the correct holes to line this adapter up with. It is okay to slide this inner tube into the outer tube aligned correctly and just tighten the set screws. You will not use the pin in this case.

Quick Service! Only one problem the GEN Y doesn’t match up on my Liberty Trailers gooseneck retaining pin holes not basically they are an inch off forcing my trailer to be off had to bring it to a machine shop for proper alignment. 489477

  • I do have an option for you but the Gen-Y Gooseneck Coupler part # 325-GH-7002 is not going to work with a recessed gooseneck hitch but we do have a similar option that may, the Gen-Y Gooseneck Coupler part # 325-GH-7001 which is actually designed for this exact purpose. • Does Gen-Y Gooseneck Coupler with Torsion Suspension and 5-1/2 Inch Offset Improve Turning Clearnace
  • This Gen-Y gooseneck coupler, part # 325-GH-7002, replaces the current coupler on your trailer and provides 5-1/2 inches of offset. The offset moves the trailer back 5 inches to provide more clearance between your truck and trailer when executing sharp turns. The biggest benefit of this coupler are the torsion flex cords that absorb the shock of your trailer. This makes your ride much smoother, which is better on you and your trailer.
