Randy: Hey guys. It's Randy here at etailer.com. Today we are taking a look at a replacement Gooseneck Coupler. This is non-adjustable. This is a coupler designed to weld in place of the outer two and the inner two. This basically alleviates any movement or play that we get here between the two couplers.
You can see this one's been welded onto the front of our trailer, and that's exactly what you'll need to do with this one.Something else you'll notice, and it's pretty common on all of these, the top's open. I would recommend, just like this one, getting a plate welded on the top of it, so as you're welding it on your trailer, also weld that plate in, we won't have to worry about moisture and stuff getting down inside. As you can see, it is an unpainted coupler, this is something you can match to your trailer, you won't have to grind a bunch of primer off there to get it welded on properly. The labels are also covered here, so after we're done painting it, you can pull that off and pull this off, your labels will still be very legible and easy to read. It's going to use a standard style release here, you pull up, you either push that back or forward, and then it's just a small pivot that's going to allow, you see our gate here to open, our gooseneck ball can get in, pivot it back the other direction, lock the handle in, that's going to grab a hold of that ball and prevent it from becoming disconnected. This is going to match the diameter of all of your couplers already, so you're not going to have any issues with it going place if you we're trying to replace one. This is also a really good solution if you're building a new trailer. You see here, this is lockable, it's going to allow you to run a padlock through there and prevent anybody from lifting on the handle, that will of course prevent them from trying to get away with your trailer, disconnecting it from your truck. The capacity on the couple is going to be 20,000 pounds. That's going to handle a lot of the larger trailers out there, and it's going to be 33 inches from the bottom to the top. That's going to allow us to adjust it up and down before we weld it, so we can match the trailer and the truck and keep everything level.I think this is going to be an excellent solution for a lot of situations.
One thing to keep in mind, once this is welded on, we don't have the capabilities to adjust them up and down. We do have other couplers that are available here at etrailer that give you about eight inches of adjustment room, so if you're just going to have one truck, one trailer hooking together, this could be a really good solution. If you're planning on maybe switching trucks or hauling one trailer with several different trucks, the adjustable option might give you a little more flexibility. That's going to complete our look at the replacement gooseneck coupler.
