Powerful, Portable Generator

This inverter generator packs 2,000 watts of power to get you up and running whether you're at the campsite, worksite, or tailgate party. It lets you use the items you want and need, such as tools, small appliances, televisions, radios, fans, and lights. This lightweight unit has a carry handle right on top, making it easy to tote the generator wherever you go.

Safe for Sensitive Electronic Devices

This A-iPower generator uses a built-in inverter to produce clean AC power, making the generator safe to use with your electronic devices such as laptops and cell phones.

Electronic devices are made with delicate circuitry that requires steady, controlled electrical current. The electrical current produced by standard generators, however, is uncontrolled, allowing extreme fluctuations in power. And these fluctuations can easily damage your sensitive electronic devices.

This A-iPower generator, on the other hand, has a built-in inverter that controls the voltage that is produced. This important feature ensures that the generator is safe to use with your electronic equipment such as computers and medical devices.

Easy-Start Engine

This A-iPower generator's engine is designed to start up easily so you can power up faster and without hassle. The key to this easy startup is the elimination of excess fuel in the carburetor after each use. When the generator is turned off, the engine will continue to run for a few seconds to allow excess gas in the carburetor to burn off. Because the excess gas is burned off and not left to stagnate, the A-iPower generator will start up much easier and faster than a generator that contains old fuel in its engine.

Before starting your generator, ensure nothing is connected to the outlets. Start your generator and let the engine run for a few minutes to warm up and stabilize. Check to make sure the circuit breaker is in on position before continuing. Once the generator is up and running, you may connect your electrical loads. To follow the recommended order of operation, connect the device with the highest starting watts first, like your air conditioner or refrigerator, and work your way down to the device with the lowest starting watts. By connecting devices in this order, you can make the most of your generator's capacity through connecting high wattage loads when there is more power available.

Multi-Switch Provides Simple Operation

A-iPower SUA2000i inverter generator multi-switch

The multi-switch on the A-iPower generator integrates the fuel on/off, choke on/off, and engine on/off functions so that operation is a no-brainer. Simply turn the multi-switch to "on" and pull the recoil start. Then move the switch to the "run" position right after the generator starts. Finally, turn the switch to "off" when you're ready to turn off the generator. Because the choke is automatic, there is no separate choke switch to worry about.

Built-in Parallel Ability

A-iPower SUA2000i inverter generator has built-in parallel ability

This A-iPower generator has a built-in parallel ability that lets you easily pair it with another generator to produce double the power. By doubling the power, you can run equipment with higher electrical demands. Pair 2 of these generators together, or pair this generator with another 2,000-watt A-iPower generator (sold separately). The included connection cables simply plug into the corresponding ports on the back of each generator. Because the parallel ability is built in, you don't have to purchase a separate kit and remember to bring it with you.

Eco Throttle Engine Speed Options

A-iPower SUA2000i inverter generator has Eco Throttle, or 2 engine speeds

You can choose between 2 modes of engine operation with a flip of a switch using the generator's Eco Throttle feature:

  1. Eco mode adjusts engine speed to match the power demands of your connected devices. In this mode, the engine runs only as fast as is necessary, keeping noise to a minimum and saving fuel. And this mode is not only kinder to your pocketbook and your ears, it's also easier on the environment.
  2. High mode operates the engine at a steady high speed. This setting is used for high-load situations or during frequent on-and-off cycling of electrical devices.

Safety Features

This A-iPower 2,000-watt generator also comes with many safety features that protect both you and the generator itself. For instance, a low-oil indicator light lets you know when you need to add more oil. If oil levels remain too low to continue operation, the shutoff feature safeguards the generator's engine by automatically shutting down the generator. A built-in spark arrester helps prevent any sparking that might burn someone or start a fire, protecting both you and the environment.

Choosing a Generator

To choose a generator that meets your needs, you must match the size of the generator (that is, the starting output and running output in watts) with the electrical demands of the equipment that you want to operate.

Power Demands

Starting (surge) wattage is the power a device requires at startup. Running (rated) wattage is the power needed to keep the device running. A large appliance with an electric motor such as a furnace, refrigerator, air conditioner, or washing machine may require 2 to 3 times more starting wattage than running wattage.

It is always best to start your generator with no load connected, then add each device one at a time. Additionally, a good practice to consider is connecting your devices in order from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts. As you connect and start devices, your available wattage decreases. This order of operation allows you to start devices with the highest power demands when there is more power available.

Will This Generator Run My RV Air Conditioner?

At etrailer, we perform numerous tests on generators to put them through real-world experience. An extensive part of this testing includes starting and running RV air conditioners. The following table will help you decide if the A-iPower SUA2000i inverter generator has enough power to handle this critical function in your RV.

Determining Your Power Needs

When choosing a generator, knowing the amount of power you will need is crucial to your decision. Whether you are preparing for an emergency situation at home or taking a weekend trip in the RV, planning out your application is essential. The two calculations below provide power estimations that will help point you to a generator that is right for your needs.

Industry Standard Calculation

The Industry Standard Calculation is a quick and easy way to determine your required wattage. It may provide some padding in your wattage requirements, which could give you more power than you actually need, but you shouldn't have to worry about not having enough power. The following steps will help you quickly calculate the correct size generator to meet your application.

As stated earlier, you should always start your generator without any load, and then connect each device one at a time. The following calculation requires this approach to work. However, using this calculation removes the worry of connecting devices in a certain order.

1. Determine the starting watts and running watts for the devices that you want to plug into the generator.

a. Find the starting (surge) watts and running (rated) watts for each device that you want to plug into the generator. Look for a sticker or plate on each device or check your owner's manuals.

b. If your device or manual only shows amps and volts, watts can also be determined through a simple formula. (Amps x Volts = Watts)

c. List all of your starting watts and running watts as seen in Table 1 below.

Table 1

Example DevicesStarting WattsRunning Watts
Air compressor2,0001,000
Refrigerator1,600800
Microwave01,000
Blender850400

2. To find the total starting watts required, add the starting watts for the device with the highest value to the running watts of all the other devices from Table 1.

2,000 + 800 + 1,000 + 400 = 4,200 total starting watts

3. To find the total running watts, add all of the running watts together from Table 1.

1,000 + 800 + 1,000 + 400 = 3,200 total running watts

To run all of these devices simultaneously, you would require a generator with at least 4,200 starting watts and 3,200 running watts.

Advanced Precise Calculation

While the method for calculating your power needs outlined above will work, it isn't the most precise. If you aren't afraid of doing a little more math, you can use the Advanced Precise Calculation to get a more accurate idea of how much power you will need and potentially save yourself some money. Because the calculation above pads in enough power to ensure you can start your devices in any order, it may point you to a bigger and more expensive generator than you need. However, by following the more regimented, order-of-operations calculation below, you'll get a much more precise idea of how much power you need, which could in turn point you to a smaller and less expensive generator.

Again, you should always start your generator without any load, and then connect each device one at a time. The following calculation also requires that you start your devices in order from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts. When you connect devices in this order, you can start high demand devices when there is more power available.

1. Determine the starting watts and running watts for each device that you want to plug into the generator.

a. Find the starting (surge) watts and running (rated) watts for each device that you want to plug into the generator. Look for a sticker or plate on each device or check your owner's manuals.

b. If your device or manual only shows amps and volts, watts can also be determined through a simple formula. (Amps x Volts = Watts)

c. List out these devices from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts as seen in Table 2 below.

Table 2

Example DevicesStarting WattsRunning Watts
Air compressor2,0001,000
Refrigerator1,600800
Microwave01,000
Blender850400

2. To find the total running watts, add all of the running watts together from Table 2.

1,000 + 800 + 1,000 + 400 = 3,200 total running watts

3. In Table 3, shown below, the values from Table 2 are used to calculate the highest total starting watts required as devices are connected and running. This number represents the highest power requirement you will encounter as you connect all of your devices to the generator. To find this, add the starting watts of each new device you connect to the combined running watts of all connected devices. The highest of these numbers will be the total starting watts required. And again, remember to always connect devices in order from highest starting watts to lowest starting watts.

Table 3

DeviceStarting WattsRunning Watts of All Connected DevicesTotal Starting Watts Required
1. Air compressor2,000 +0 (nothing connected)= 2,000
2. Refrigerator1,600 +1,000 (air compressor)= 2,600
3. Microwave1,000* +1,800 (air compressor + refrigerator)= 2,800
4. Blender850 +2,800 (air compressor + refrigerator + microwave)= 3,650

* Even though the microwave does not have starting watts listed, you have to account for the power needed to actually run it.

850 + 2,800 = 3,650 highest total starting watts required

In order to run all of these devices simultaneously, you would require a generator with at least 3,650 starting watts and 3,200 running watts. The starting watts are determined by the highest total starting watts required during the calculation in Table 3/Step 3. The running watts are determined by the total running watts from Step 2.

Video Transcript for A-iPower Generators - Inverter - 289-SUA2000I Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the A-iPower 2,000-Watt Inverter Generator with parallel kit. This 2,000 watt inverter generator provides a portable power source. You'll notice the control panel right here, very nice, very clean. It's going to feature one 120 volt outlet that powers household appliances, tools and electronic devices. It's also going to feature one 120 volt, 30 amp L5-30R twist lock receptacle and it's going to feature one 12 volt DC adapter outlet. Now this inverter let's you safely charge and run electronic devices. It's going to feature an easy start engine that offers hassle free start up, so this generator actually runs for 2-3 seconds after it shuts off.

That is designed to burn any access gas that may be in the carburetor. This is going to help failed start ups due to stagnant fuel, so that's a really nice feature of this particular unit. Now it's going to feature this multi-switch, which is located right here. This integrates the fuel on and off, choke on and off, and engine on and off functions for simple operation. When it comes to the engine that it uses, it's going use a Sensi 4-stroke engine, that uses standard unleaded gas, so there's no need to mix gas and oil. It's also going to have cast iron cylinder sleeves that help ensure a long engine life. The unit is going to feature a comfort grip, ergonomically designed recoil pull handle, that provides easy manual start up.

It does feature built in, parallel ability. It's also going to come with the included wiring for that as well. These are the connection cables that let you pair the generator with another generator for increased output, so this unit can be paired with an additional 2000 watt generator from AI power connections, are right here. These are your parallel output connections. It does come with the wiring cables to get that done. The unit is also going to feature what is known as an Eco-throttle.

That's going to provide two engine modes. It's a simple switch located right here, so you're going to have Eco-mode, that keeps the engine RPM just high enough to power the plugged in devices, so that's going to save fuel and reduce noise. Then you're going to have your high mode. That maintains high engine RPM's, so that's best for powered demands of hydra or rapid cycling devices. The unit is known for quiet operation.

It's not going to drown out camp ground conversation. It's known to be quieter than a typical vacuum cleaner, which is pretty impressive. It's going to feature safety features throughout the unit that prevents accidental free use, so right here on the control panel you're going to have your LED's. These are warning lights that will come on for instance, when the oil level is low, one of them will come on, so it has low oil and the engine will automatically shut down if the oil level becomes too low for safe use. We're also going to have a circuit overload indicator. We're going to have automatic voltage regulator, that's AVR that helps minimize voltage fluctuations and we're going to have a spark arrester that's prevents release of flammable debris. Now the unit also has an easy to read fuel gauge. Right here by the fuel cap it's going to have a fuel gauge. That's just a viewing window, that's going to let you know when your gas level is low. You can see that right there, this is your fuel cap and this is the plug that once removed, will allow you to gain access to the spark plug. The easy to read fuel gauges there, it's a clean running engine that meets CARB and EPA standards. This portable generator has a dry weight of around 46 pounds and includes a built in carry handle. Again, you're going to have the fuel cap right here. Also you're going to have an included filter and the cap is vented, so right now it's off. You can move this cap to the on position which opens it up and allows it to vent. Now with the generator, with the purchase of a generator, you're obviously going to get the generator, you're also going to get an oil funnel, you're going to get a 30 amp RV adapter. You're going to get the DC charging cable, so that way you can plug this in to this port right here and then you can charge a battery. It's got the clamps on there, positive and negative, red and black, so very easy to use. Again you're going to get the parallel kit, you're going to get an included screwdriver, that way you can take off these two screws here, so that if you remove this panel, it's going to allow you to gain access to the oil fill and it's going to allow you to gain access to the spark plug. That way you can remove the cover before using this slot right here to remove or install a spark plug, so it does come with a spark plug wrench, just like that it goes down and you can easily use this to remove an old one and install a new one. Also right here, right above that it does have an indicator that says spark plug access and it's going to tell you what type of spark plug that it uses. You're also going to get an owners manual, very detailed and organized. A few specs to go over with you real quick. The starting or surge power output is 2,000 watts, running or a rated power output is 1,600 watts. The running VAC amperage is 13.3 amps, DC output at 12 volts is 8.3 amps. Continuous run time for the unit at rated low is going to be four hours. At half load is seven hours. The unit measures about 20 inches long, by about 11 inches wide and 19 inches tall. Again, the engine type is a Sensi 79CC single cylinder air-cooled, 4-stroke OHV. Engine to horse power is 2.5, fuel tank capacity is 1.1 gallon. Oil capacity is .4 quarts. Oil type is SAE 10W30 and power line frequency is 60 Hertz. Please keep in mind that gas generators produce carbon monoxide, which is poisonous, so for your safety, always be sure to operate the gas powered generator outdoors. It does have the exhaust here on the back, as well as a venting design and again here on the control panel, you're going to have multi-switch, you're going to have you're connection points for your power, you're going to have the parallel output, you're going to have the Eco-mode, you're going to have the push button right here on and off for the 12 volt DC outlet. Then right here you're going to have a ground terminal. That way you can ground the unit to prevent electrical shock. That's going to do it for today's look at the Ai-Power 2,000-Watt Inverter Generator, with parallel kit.

After a year of use on my SeaRay 290 sundancer I am extremely satisified with these inverters. I purchased 2. they came with the connector so I have 2 sets of cables for them. Both of these were several hundred $ less than 1 Honda. Honda might be a little quieter but with both running in ECO mode noise is not an issue for us in the cabin at night. And unless it is really hot and humid they will run 8-9 hours on a tank running my boats A/C, Outlets, frig, and charging boat battery. They start right up. outside is all plastic or rubber. even spark plug is covered with rubber cover. These is great with the salt water environment they are exposed too. I simply wash them with soapy water when I get home and spray exhaust with an anti-corrosive spray. Done! They still look like and perform like new. Probably 80-100 hours on them. 575498

I must say that i bought these generators a little worried because i had never heard of A-ipower generators (now i know that Home depot has them), but they turned out to be great, i live in Puerto Rico where hurricane María destroyed most of the electrical infrastructure and these little generators have performed flawlessly! I bought 2 and use them one at a time for a total of almost 20 hrs of power. Also, etrailer has been great with their customer service, would definitely recommend etrailer and A-ipower inverter generators! 448505

Well thank you again for your fast service and willingness to ship to hurricane torn Puerto Rico when no one else would, or could. Regarding the product i must say Im still pleased with it and used it extensively without any problems whatsoever. BUT however, the product company, A-ipower? is impossible to reach. On one occasion the recoil start or manual start cord or whatever its called, binded up and wouldnt unwind to start the generator so I tried to contact them for advice or service and never got an answer back. No emails, no calls got through, nothing. Luckily I kept trying and i some how got it to work, and it has worked fine ever since. but I hope nothing major happens to it because if it does I doubt that A-ipower will honor the warranty. I believe it has a 2 year warranty? Keeping my fingers crossed. Sorry about the rant, i know its not your companys fault. You guys did your part and once again i thank you for it, but maybe you should look into A-ipower to see why they dont answer emails or phone calls?

The warranty listed for this item is indeed a 2 year warranty for residential use. And the first year is the 1st year parts and labor, and the second year is for parts only.

I have purchased one of these over a year ago and love it. It’s quiet and just runs. There is a small sputter once in a while but what small gas engine doesn’t do this. This thing runs everything in the camper but the AC. Side note, it will run the AC but it won’t start it. That is why I just bought this one to run in parallel. It will start the AC now and once it’s going I shut one off. You can buy a bigger unit but they are much bigger and heavier. These units are small and fit in the pass through storage in my camper. The price, this is the main reason I bought these, they work just as good as the other top two and have the same quality build. I’m not a brand shopper and always look for a fare price on my purchases. The name brands are great, but they are priced to high and I can buy two of these for just one of the others. 702694

I love this little generator. We got this as a backup for power outages and also to run our camper when boondocking. The generator worked great during a couple of hurricane related power outages last year to power lamps, satellite internet modem and wi-fi routers, and pumps and heaters on my saltwater aquarium. We have used it on a number of occasions to run the 5000 btu window unit in our camper along with the camper’s other 120 VAC equipment. We haven’t tried running the 1300 Watt microwave yet. The only time I had it overload was when trying to run a small keurig coffee maker and the air-conditioner simultaneously. I’ve since measured power usage of both and found that the Keurig spikes to about 1350 Watts for 30-60 seconds and that the AC unit uses about 600 Watts running (1600 Watts start-up). So, the 2 together are over what the generator is rated to produce. This is such a lightweight and quiet unit. I have also used it to power an air compressor and circular saw on a part of my property where I don’t have power. It didn’t miss a beat. 699930

I bought this generator to run my camper. It is easy to start and very quiet, especially on eco mode. It has plenty of power to run a camper. It is basically the same as the [competing brand], just half the price. I did originally get one that had a manufacturing defect that caused it to leak gas, but I conta Ted etrailer and they sent me another one the next day. I have bought a lot of stuff for my truck and camper from etrailer and they are very easy to work with. They have great customer service. 697513

We purchased this for power outages. Have had 2 this year. It ran lights and a window a/c. Winter outage ran lights and Woodstove blower. I run the generator for an hour month for maintenance reasons. I have also run our refrigerator from this. Runs great! 690506

runs well, is quiet and easy to start. I bought two of these and with the parallel cord they will not start my 13500 btu roof top A/C on my rv and if they do get it going they cut out after 5 minutes. I did not put a meter on the pair to see what the output watts were but I am sure it is less than 3200 constant. 653010

Great little generator. We mainly bought this because my wife uses a CPAP and we wanted her to be able to use it when we are boondocking. It did work great for that. However, when we tried to use our Keurig coffee maker in the morning it would pop the breaker. The only way to make coffee was to disconnect the unit from the trailer and plug the coffee maker directly into it. 598542

Have had the generator for 1 year and have used it approx 8-10 times with last week being the last time. Its powered circular saws, grinders and air compressors (for nail guns) when doing work in the back woods on my hunting cabin. It then powered the cabin so i had lights and fresh coffee from my coffee maker. The last week I needed it to power a 6-volt tractor battery charger to charge an old farm tractors battery that sits way back in the woods. After 3 pulls the generator started right up in 25 degree weather and charged the battery for the next 4.5 hrs. This generator has not let me down once and starts each and every time after 2-4 pulls. Definitely recommend it. 590849

A-ipower generator Part # 289-SUA2000I 2,000 watt inverter generator may not provide enough starting watts to power your campsite. To determine your power needs, add up the total running wattage of each of the devices you are trying to power with the generator. The next step is to determine the starting wattage how much power it requires to turn on for each device you want to power. Determine which device has the most starting watts and add that to the number the total of the running watts that you calculated earlier. The sum of those two numbers equals the amount of starting watts required to power your campsite. If your starting watt number exceeds 2,000 watts, this generator alone will not be sufficient for your campsite. A-ipower generator part # 289-SUA2000I does come with a parrell kit that allows you to connect to a second 289-SUA2000I and produce 3,800 watts of starting power. If the starting watts required for your needs exceed 3,800, I recommend etrailer brand portable generators part # 333-0001-0002. This etrailer generator offers 4,900 watts of starting power and is an inverter generator so it is safe to charge electronics such as laptops and cell phones.

Product arrived ahead of the original delivery date and was in perfect shape. Added Oil and Gas, fired up on the 2nd pull. I took it with me to a remote cabin site and proceeded to use if for 2 days running saws and a compressor. Started with no more than 2 pulls each time and ran perfectly. Also runs very quiet, had no problems carrying on a conversation while standing next to it. I recommend it to anyone that needs a small Generator. 540638

Excellent generator. I own a Honda 2200 as well. Ran them side by side and it sounded about the same noise level. My DB meter said the Honda was 2 DBs quieter, but I could not tell the difference with my ears alone. My Ai power fired up my 12000 btu AC no problem but could not start the 15000 btu unit. The Honda can barely start the 15000 unit, but it strains. The Honda is also a little larger unit rated at 2200watts max versus 2000. So this is a great unit and as long as you don’t need the extra capacity to start a large AC. I am also very impressed with the build quality of this unit. Also Etrailer did a great job. The unit arrrived promptly and undamaged. 528800

The shipping was swift and I was able to test the generator with a 1000 W microwave and then a small 1500 W radiant heater. Everything worked as it should. I got a chance to use it a couple of days ago for the first time after testing a month ago. NO OUTPUT!! The AC voltage is only 83V. Disappointed. I e-mailed A-ipower this morning to see who does warranty repairs in my area. Hopefully they won't take their time. It appears to be well made but again, disappointed. More stars later if it gets fixed fast! 501049

Generator arrived fairly quickly, packing was great. Excellent instruction manual. Added oil as per instructions, then gas(I use no ethanol gas), started right up. Checked sound level, 54db at 10 ft. It was quiet, but it IS a generator so you are aware it is there. After checking around on the internet, this is clearly the BEST price.(delivered). Its not a Honda, but at less than 1/2 the price it appears to be just as good. Happy camper ! 493603

Randy, thank you for your review. Some appliances require more starting watts to turn the appliance on initially but a standard coffee maker requires 0 starting watts. I am not sure what type of coffee maker you are using but I would recommend making sure the generator is in high mode and not eco mode. High mode will allow the motor to run at high speed which will give enough surge to turn the coffee maker on.

This is a good little generator. We had it for one camping season and use it to keep the battery charged on our trailer and to run/charge small devices when we are dry camping. This does everything we need except run the AC which we knew when we chose to go with this size. Machanically it starts up easy every time and runs good. It isn’t bad on gas and runs quiet.
