Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Toyota Tacoma

Today on this 2015 Toyota Tacoma, we're gonna review and install the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 65070. Now, this being a front mounted hitch, this is actually designed and intended for all winch mounting applications. You'll notice on the hitch itself, it's got two loops here for your hooks to come back from your pulley when you're winching your truck out of a situation. It does have a trailing application as well. A lot of times, you have a boat trailer or any type of trailer that you need to maneuver in a tight situation constantly, like for storage, use a hitch to steer it into place instead of backing it in.This does use a standard two-inch opening. It has a hitch pin hole here for your 5/8ths diameter hitch pin or your favorite locking hitch pin.

For winching capacity, this hitch is rated for 9000 pounds. Now, for using for a trailer or to maneuver a trailer which these hitches are used for a lot, the tongue weight will be good for 500 pounds and the pull weight will be good for 5000 pounds. Next we'll give you some measurements that'll help you out in selecting accessories for your front mount hitch. For example, from the top receiver opening down to the ground will be about 16 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper, that's going to be about 3 1/2 inches. Now we're going to show you how we install the hitch.

First part of our install is, we need to remove two bolts at the end of the frame at the bottom. Here and here. We'll need a 17-millimeter socket to remove those. Then we'll pull this cap out. We'll do that on both sides.

Also this skid shield right here, it helps to take it down and get it out of the way to install the hardware. There'll be two bolts here, and here we loosen up using a 12 millimeter socket. There are also two more of the same bolts here and here towards the back . Next step on our driver's side frame rail, there are two plastic caps we have to remove. There's a round one right here. It's gonna pop out with a screwdriver, and going towards the back of the vehicle, this oval shaped one right here we have to remove as well.

Our driver side's done, do the same thing over on our passenger side. Now, those caps by the way, exist on the inside of both rails too. We have to remove those as well. At this point, we can start to install hardware into your frame or truck. We're gonna take the block. The big block here with the 1/2-inch hole and a 4-inch long bolt. We're gonna install it from the inside of the frame towards the outside of the frame at the holes. Now we need to install hardware into this hole where the bolt was previously and the end cap was. We're gonna take the plate with the square hole and a inch-and-a-half long carriage bolt, it's kinda easy to get them confused with the other ones that are shorter, and put it in place just like that. We'll do this on both sides of the truck. Let's get out one of our parts to our hitch. You'll notice it has a offset to it. This offset goes to the outside. We'll line this up with the bolts that we put in earlier. Then we'll install conical tooth washer. The teeth you'll notice in the washer always faces towards the hitch. Then we'll put a nut onto that. Same thing with the other bolt up front. Driver's side brackets in place, let's do it one more time over on the passenger side. At this point, you want to get an extra set of hands to help hold up the center section of the hitch. These tabs right here will go up to these bolts at the bottom of this beam here, and they will go inside the brackets. Then we'll install the same conical tooth washer and nut on both sides of the truck. Now we'll connect our center section of the hitch to our brackets using the really short carriage bolts that go from the outside to the inside. Now put the square in the bracket, lock into place. Then the other side we'll get a lock washer and a nut. We'll do the same for the remaining bolt holes here, as well as the other side of the truck. Now, with all our hardware in place we can start to tighten down everything. Use a 3/4-inch socket, we'll tighten down the hardware and the frame brackets go into the center section first. The hardware going to these straps right here will get tightened down next.On this hardware here, we'll need a 19-millimeter wrench or a 3/4-inch wrench to hold the bolt's head. We'll tighten down the other side. With everything ran down, we'll tighten up the bolts using a torque wrench. Hitch is completely installed. Let's put the skid shield back into place. Put it behind the hitch. Make sure it goes on the hooks. We'll swing it back up into place and reinstall the original hardware. That will finish it for our Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 65070, on this 2015 Toyota Tacoma.

Its a very well built hitch. Easy to install it took me 45 minutes and I’m no professional. Only reason I’m not going to give it to 5 stars is the included hardware was not all there. Not a big deal a quick trip to the hardware store and a couple extra bucks. 639471

Ordered the front hitch for my 2008 Tacoma on Saturday and received it on the following Wednesday (great service). Followed the install video displayed on etrailer web page which was very good. Only used the written instructions for the torque value and to verify the hardware count. That was the only issue, it was missing 10 nuts and 6 lock washers. Spent an extra six bucks getting nuts and washers. 613161

This is a very nice setup. I installed the hitch on the front of my Toyota pickup. I use it to mount my surf rod holder. Also use the hitch to move the boat around the yard. Super easy to install. I am very pleased with my purchase. 469087

I give this hitch top marks for design, build-quality, and ease of installation on my 2014 Toyota Tacoma 4WD. Perfect match-up between hitch and truck chassis, as if it were an OEM accessory. I bought the hitch for easier "push-parking" of my 20' travel trailer into an awkward storage space. Works very well, MUCH easier than backing. For a 2014 Tacoma I would buy this one again in a heartbeat. 506030

Great product. Installation was very easy and, best of all, makes parking the trailer in tight spots 100 times easier. Wish I had put this on the truck sooner. Well worth the money. 482139

I installed this hitch on my Tacoma as a recovery item when driving very narrow mountain roads. That is, as an attachment point for me to be towed out, or as an attachment to pull others backwards out of a jam. As luck would have it, I have yet to use it for this purpose. It bolted on straight out of the box, and is solid & secure. I get a lot of comments on its purpose and got a lot of people thinking how useful it could be. I consider it to be a very good purchase. (Hopefully not needing it any time soon!) 466636

etrailer was great - fast delivery and excellent service. Now for the product. Installation instructions are poor and the tool list is incorrect. Nevertheless, the installation is straight forward and you really do not need the instructions. The manufacturer shorted me several bolts, nuts, and washers. Had to make a trip to the hardware store to install. Fortunately, bolt size was common. Not what I expected from Draw-Tite. 574042

Bought as a way to carry bikes while not putting on rear of trailer or A-frame. trying to keep weight off the hitch pin and/or the weak box bumper of trailer. If you don't have the tow package it can be put on 30 minutes. Unfortunately I did so I had to slightly move the lines to the auxiliary cooler as they were in the way of 1 bolt 297360

This review is less about the quality of the item and more about the quality of etrailers customer service. But first... a little about the hitch itself.... it is VERY heavy duty, has beautiful welds, and comes in (very fashionable) black. Sooo, it will work perfectly for my 2018 Tacoma. If you want a solid, high-quality front hitch for your Tacoma, you will be very happy with this, it will outlast your truck. Now... onto the customer service: I was sent the wrong item and didn't realize it until I was laying under my truck looking at which bolts to remove. Needless to say, I was ticked... but I called up E-trailer and immediately got a CS rep that IMMEDIATELY apologized and took care of it for me. The correct hitch was sent out and arrived in just 2 DAYS! I was also immediately sent a UPS label to return the wrong part. I just needed to re-pack it. But honestly, the best part is that the CS dept. made sure that I was not only taken care quickly and completely but they kept checking in to tell me the status of the replacement and THEN sent me some extra installation instructions that are MUCH easier to understand than the ones from Draw-tite (and they have full color pics!). So... all-in-all... a great hitch... at a great price... and with great customer service (even WITH the order mess up in shipping). Just buy the darn thing! 494445

This was fairly simple to install, once I figured out what in the world I was doing. The instructions are great, if you already know the names of the parts they're referring to. I'm not mechanically inclined and it took me approx 2 hrs to install. Thankfully I still have a 75ftlb torque wrench. My only beef is that for a 2016 Tacoma (TRD Sport), the lower air dam needs remove for installation, and it doesn't get reinstalled. Other than that, installation's a breeze, and this sucker is heavy duty. If I ever need any parts like this, or anything related to automotive or trailer stuff, I'm coming to this website FIRST. 336415

Product was as advertised, Excellent. It was delivered without all the proper hardware. I was missing 4 lock washers and 10 nuts, luckily I have a good store close. I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma. Install of the drivers side bracket was easy. Passenger side bracket rear bolt was tricky due to brake lines but a little bend did the trick. Hole alignment was spot on.......don't tighten anything until fully mounted.....and then do it in the order in which the directions state. It did take me longer then anticipated but it was well worth the wait, I couldn't be happier!!!!!!!! Now to make adjustments to the surf fishing rack. 494908

The hitch fits perfectly for my 2018 Tacoma. Had to trim some stuff as stated in directions. The problem I had was I didn’t check hardware and make sure it was all there before taking apart my truck. So I ended up buying nuts and lock washers at the local Home Depot. Worked like a charm and from there out everything went smoothly It did take longer then 35 minuets but I was installing it on the ground so it took about 2 hrs with a friend. Would recommend this to anyone looking to put a hitch on. 501910

This is a wonderful product and has made trailer positioning a snap. I can now maneuver my boat / utility trailer up a very narrow drive without going into the yard. The only downside was the unit did not come with all the hardware to install. etrailer sent me the missing hardware very quickly. Be prepared to make cuts to the air dam if so equipped. A torque wrench is required to install along with socket and open end wrenches. 640513

I purchased the front mount receiver hitch in order to use an equipment carrier on the front of my 2010 Toyota Tacoma. I needed to keep access to the bed of my truck for unloading materials into my top dresser. This hitch is perfect! It is plenty strong to handle the job says 900 lb tongue weight, but I only need about 400 lb with carrier and equipment. While the install looked pretty easy, I did have a local mechanic do it for me since he had a lift which makes it much easier. Even never having installed a front hitch before, it only took the mechanic no more than 1 hour to install after watching the wonderful 6 minute install video. The price was great and quality of the product including all install information was great! Only drawback was that, as many others have stated, not all of the hardware was included. I was missing about 8 lock washers, 6 nuts, and 2 of the notched flat washers were too small a diameter. Local hardware store had everything I need and it only cost an extra $6. Overall, great product and value! Highly recommend this 5-star rated product! Thanks, etrailer.com! 636035

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Front Hitch
Do you have a question about this Front Hitch?

  • Front Hitch for 2018 Toyota Tacoma That Allows Skid Shield to Remain Installed
  • The front-mount hitch that best meets your requirements is the Draw-Tite # 65070. This will allow you to re-install your skid shield after you bolt on the hitch. I recommend this model also because it offers a higher vertical load capacity of 500-lbs, as compared to the Curt # C31075 which is rated for only 350-lbs. The no-drill installation is shown in the linked video and the clean appearance after installation can be seen in the included photo. A front-mount hitch is a great...

  • Does Installation Of Front Mount hitch On 2017 Toyota Tacoma Require Trimming Of Air Dam
  • We have two front-mount trailer hitches for your 2017 Tacoma. I called my contact at Curt and they said that when installing the # C31075 hitch the air dam will need to be trimmed as shown in the attached installation instructions. The photo on the first page in the Curt instructions does show how the air dam will look with the finished install. The Draw-Tite # 65070 trailer hitch is also a fit for your Tacoma. I called my contact at Draw-Tite and they said the air dam is removed...

  • Recommended Front-Mount Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch for 2014 Toyota Tacoma
  • Both the Curt Front Hitch # 31313 and the Draw-Tite Front Hitch # 65070 are confirmed to fit your 2014 Tacoma 4x4 but I definitely recommend the Draw-Tite for its higher 500-lb vertical load weight rating and because it allows re-installation of the skid shield which is not possible with the Curt. If you're intending to use a hitch-mount snow plow like the Detail K2 Avalanche # K2AVAL8219 or a hitch cargo carrier like # 63153 or any other potentially heavy item you might want to consider...

  • Removing Skid Shield to Install Front Mounted Receiver on 2014 Toyota Tacoma
  • To retain the skid shield, you'll want to go with the Draw-Tite # 65070. In order to install the Curt # 31313 front hitch on your 2014 Toyota Tacoma, the bumper beam end caps and the front skid shield would need to be permanently removed. For the 2006 and earlier model year, the skid shield could be replaced without modification. Also the ladder rack for the BAKFlip CS will not fit because it is designed to attach to a special rail system which isn't available (unless BAK can offer them) and that is not on the regular F1 tonneau covers like you have. • If it were me, I would go with the Draw-Tite front mounted hitch # 65070 over the Curt front mount hitch # 31313 for your 2015 Toyota Tacoma. We have just had better luck with the Draw-Tite brand and for the increased vertical pull, if you ever decide to use it for another purpose plus the lower cost the Draw-Tite is pretty hard to pass up in my opinion. • The Draw Tite trailer hitch part # 65070 is a fit for your 2009 Toyota Tacoma and has a 500 lb vertical load limit. You'd have 125 lbs left for the weight of a carrier once you subtract the weight of your KLX 250 that weighs 375 lbs. While that shouldn't be a problem you'll also have to consider that your radiator won't be getting as much air flow and your headlights and front blinkers might be obscured.

  • Recommended Front Trailer Hitch for 2015 Toyota Tacoma 4WD for Snow Plow
  • For your 2015 Toyota Tacoma 4WD, I recommend the SnowBear Personal Snowplow for 2" Hitches # SB324-080 for the easiest install. You are correct that the Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch # 65070 will allow you to retain the skid shield and will work well for your truck and this plow. I also recommend the use of the Tow Ready J-Pin Stabilization Pin and Barrel Lockset for 2" Trailer Hitches # 63201.

  • Roof Rack, Front Hitch, and Kayak Carrier for 12 ft Kayaks Carried by 2018 Toyota Tacoma
  • For your 2018 Toyota Tacoma with a naked roof the Rhino Rack roof rack part numbers # RRVA137S, # RRRLKVAH, and # DK174H that you referenced will give you a single bar roof rack that you could use with a front hitch like part # 65070 which is also a fit for your truck to carry a couple kayaks. You'll also need a hitch mounted upright bar like the Thule Goalpost # TH997 and you'd be set in that regard. For kayak carriers the Rhino Rack Nautic part # RR570 would work great for each...

  • Do all Front Hitches for 2019 Toyota Tacoma have Tow Hooks in Front
  • For your 2019 Toyota Tacoma the only front hitches we offer are ones that have tow hooks on them like the Curt # C31075 that you referenced. A better option may be the Draw Tite part # 65070 as it's tow hooks are a bit more minimized. I attached a picture for you to check out that shows the hitch installed.

  • Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver Recommendation for a 2019 Toyota Tacoma
  • I recommend using the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # 65070 for your 2019 Toyota Tacoma because it has the highest weight ratings which indicates a stronger hitch. This has a 2" receiver and is a custom fit so it doesn't require drilling into your frame like some front mount trailer hitches do. Please note that the front air dam will have to be removed and remain off the vehicle and the splash guard will need to be trimmed. The skid shield will be removed for hitch installation...

  • Can a Front Hitch and Grille Guard Be Used Together On A 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road
  • I do have both front mount hitch and grille guard options for your 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road but as you mentioned they cannot be used together and I am not aware of any grille guards that have an integrated receiver tube. Therefore, you will need to choose between a front mount hitch or grille guard for your Toyota Tacoma. You are correct in that you are not the only one with this request but unfortunately it is just not feasible to combine the two products. For a front mount trailer...

  • Front and Rear Hitches for 2018 Toyota Tacoma 4WD
  • The rear-mount trailer hitch I recommend for your 2018 Tacoma is the Draw-Tite Max Frame model # 75238 which offers a substantial 7K towing capacity and 1050-lb tongue weight rating. This hitch is a simple no-drill bolt on install as shown in the linked video and the photo shows the clean appearance. It is a perfect match for the Taco's 6400-lb towing capacity. If you need 4-pole trailer wiring order part # 118685 or for 7-way wiring order part # 22117. Both plug in at your Taco's taillights. For...
