Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Easy to install and it worked great. I wish you made one for a 2020 Ram 3500. 766434

2018 Ram 2500

Installed on 2005 Dodge 2500 with no issues. Overall project took about 2.5 hours by myself. I am not a mechanic nor have a huge assortment of tools. Couple tips: instructions say 12mm, but actually need 18 mm. No need to support bumper as long as you don’t push the bolts all the way out. A floor jack made it much easier to lift the hitch into place. 759249

The difficult part was mounting the hitch on the front of Dodge 2500 Ram. Had to remove front bumper and move the A/C coil to access frame to drill holes. Other than that it installed well. I use it to transport my Ebike. I tow a trailer and used to have bike on it, but the roads in CA are atrocious and the bouncing almost caused the bike to come off the rack. It is great to use and it looks as though it came with the truck. However, I can't cover the bike because can't stop air flow to radiator. I covered each critical part of the Ebike with material, so no air restriction to the radiator. 745545

very happy with my front mount hitch. I have a cab over camper with rear door and getting in and out with bikes on hitch rack was a pain. carrying them on the front has worked out great. After watching the install video the install really was as easy as they said. 733088

The product is heavy steel so it was fine, and indestructible for the most part, the packing was a joke. I'm amazed the bag of hardware was still in what was left of a box 5 times too big for it with next to nothing holding it in place. 691126

Directions were exactly what needed to be done, only set back was needing to drill a 1 1/4 inch hole, used a torch because I didn’t have a drill bit big enough, but it needed to be done so not complaining 659372

2019 Dodge Ram Pickup

It has been one year since purchase, and I unpacked it and all looks good. I have not installed it, as one year ago I restarted a graduate degree online and that takes most of my time with a full time job. Check back with me January 2020, as I will install most likely over holidays 2019. Backing short trailers or my boat trailers, cannot see trailer until it is going the wrong way in the door mirrors, in my stock 4x4 2004 Dodge Ram. I want to hook trailers to move them short distances, on my property or a non-crowded boat ramp with front hitch, always wanted to try it. Also will move my dirt bike on front hitch, without dirt bike blocking brake lights as with using rear factory installed hitch and dirt bike carrier. Will use in daytime as now front hitch receiver and dirt bike might block headlights. Check back early 2020 if you want results after I install it and use hardware and instructions. Sorry that in one year no install yet, been busy and really do not/did not need it right now. Thanks. 658989

The hitch itself is well made and rated strong. I've since installed a 12000# winch on the hitch. Hitch installation is difficult without a vehicle lift as it is rather heavy. The horizontal attaching bolts were no problem, but the vertical bolts were very difficult and were discarded in favor of welding at those points by a local shop. 5 stars if install had been easier. 595531

2004 Dodge Ram Pickup

Well made and works extremely well. A little bit of a challenge to install but I am not a mechanic. It took longer than normal, but that is because I didn't want to drill holes in my frame to feed the bolts into the holes. Ran them in from existing holes back on the frame near the wheel wells, which required the help of a electrician fish tape added to the regular wire guides. It took some doing, but got it done. 571293

2006 Dodge Ram Pickup

The hitch arrived the day it was scheduled, as usual for etrailer. The hitch installation was not without a hitch or two. First, as in the video ream out those 1/2" holes, the tolerance is very tight getting the 1/2" bolts through the drilled holes. If the hitch moves at all the bolts may bind coming through the holes. I thought I could fish the bolts through the end of the frame as someone's review indicated. On my '06 3500 Ram there is a fitting inside the frame so that was not happening. I enlarged a hole in the outside of the frame with a cheap step bit from the cheap tool store and it worked like a charm. The hitch is perfect. 508166

Good heavy built hitch. Written instructions for installation says loosen 12MM bolts but the heads are larger than that. Biggest complaint is that it lowers the front clearance by 4 1/2" and I wish they had not dropped it 2" below the frame. If it mounted flush to the frame I would have had to cut 2" out of the rubber/plastic air dam with no impact on the actual bumper. Going off road, the clearance is a big deal. 506233

After a year it still works great, very handy and solid. Sure it reduces clearance, but thats an obvious trade off. Its still above curb level.

2018 Dodge Ram Pickup

I have an 06 Dodge Ram Mega and product installation was really easy to do. Though I am a savvy "project guy", this was something I had never done before, and good for me as I was able to get a new drill out of the deal from the wife. With the existing upper bolts (18mm) incorporated in the installation, it is a great way to hold the receiver frame in place while drilling the four half-inch holes in the lower truck frame. I gave the two bolts a squirt of never seize overnight and they came off using my long, half-inch drive breaker with an 18 mm socket. With the two bolts off, I added the spacer and hung one side. On the other side, I used a pry bar on the opposite side of the frame (where the two bolts are connected with a flexible strip) to suck the bolt in (after putting on the spacer) long enough to push it up into place. This saved me from having to loosen all four nuts. Next, I used a $44.00 "Unibit" to enlarge the existing holes in the frame to pass the hardware through. After that, I drilled the (4) half-inch holes with the frame in place, passed the hardware through, and tightened everything with the last two nuts being the upper, existing ones (after the receiver was tight to the bottom of the truck frame with (4) bolts). I am certain this new receiver will give me options for carrying my generator, dirt bike, or what have you! Can't wait to get on the road! 491589

I do not use it for anything other than to hold a bike rack. It works well for that. I docked a star because installation was a lot of work on a 2003 Ram 2500. 486514

Works well to move my 24 ft trailer in tight quarters for storage. Tongue weight on the trailer is 750 lbs, so well above the 500 lb limit, but over the last year I have had it, it has held up with no problems. I always use 4wd when using front hitch so no traction issues either. Install was easy and didn’t require drilling larger holes to get bolts in place as I just removed and replaced the piece in the end of the frame rails to gain access. No sense making holes where they don’t need to be. 477338

2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Fit my 2004.5 dodge 2500 diesel 4x4. Drilling four holes on the bottom side of chassis is required. Note that there is a large enough hole in the chassis big enough to fish bolts and washers through it. The hole is located on outside of the frame on both sides just behind the front wheels. I used baling wire and taped bolt to fishing end tool to make sure I didn’t lose hardware inside frame while pulling. Best to drill holes just slightly larger than needed. Way easier than removing front bumper and smarter than any additional drilling. 468861

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Front Hitch

  • Can the Draw-Tite Front Hitch 65046 Be Welded To A 2008 Dodge Ram 2500
Yes, you can have your welder weld the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 65046 to the frame on your 2008 Dodge Ram 2500. The trailer hitch is designed to be attached via fasteners so the warranty would likely be void by welding but if done properly, this would most likely be more secure than the fasteners so I think you will be alright. I have attached an install photo for you as well.

  • Comparing Curt and Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitches for a 2006 Dodge Ram and Winch
The Draw-Tite front hitch # 65046 is slightly less invasive than the Curt hitch # C31017 and thus will provide slightly less ground clearance but ultimately they are very close. The vertical pull capacity is basically like tongue weight on a rear mounted hitch. If you are not going to apply downward force to the hitch then the lower capacity of the Curt hitch should not be an issue. You mentioned using the hitch for a winch so there are some cases where vertical pull is a factor. For...
