Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Front Mount Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Ford E-350

Today on our 2007 E350 RV Cutaway, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Draw Tite front mount trailer hitch receiver, part number 65001. What I really like about this hitch is the versatility of it because you can use it with a bike rack, a cargo carrier and some of our customers have said that they like to do that because they pull a trailer behind their motor home. It can also be used for a winch for maybe pulling a ATV or 4-wheeler out of the mud offroad. It's nicely tucked up and hidden to where all you can see is the face of the receiver tube opening here and that's even nice and tight against the bottom side of the fascia. This hitch also features these recovery eye hooks. It's got one on either side to allow you to attach a safety chain or winch cable, anything like that because you don't want to hook it to a ball mount that would be in the hitch. This hitch features the 2" by 2" receiver tube opening with the welded on reinforcement collar all the way around here.

It's got the standard 5/8" hitch pin hole. It also has the smaller 1/2" hole and that's going to be used with a J-pin stabilization system. If you're using an accessory like a bike rack or cargo carrier and you want to make sure that you get some of that shake and play out of the receiver tube here, that's going to be perfect for being able to use that. Where this hitch comes out too it stays nice and hidden but it should give you plenty of room for most accessories that you may want to mount here to the front hitch. This hitch features a 500 pound max tongue weight rating which is the total downward force here on the inside edge of the receiver tube opening. You will want to be sure to check the vehicle's gross axle weight rating to be sure that you don't exceed that for the front axle of the vehicle.

It features a 5,000 pound gross trailer weight rating, so if you're planning on using this to help guide a trailer into position so that you can see it in front of you, that's going to be your max limit, is 5,000 pounds. If you plan on using a winch with it, the max winch line pull is 9,000 pounds. I'll give you some measurements to help assist you with your selection of front hitch mounted accessories. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of the front bumper is about 4-1/4". The distance from the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening to the ground is about 14-1/4". Now, let's show you how to install this hitch.

To begin our installation, we'll be just underneath the front bumper here. Underneath here we've got this plastic flash guard that goes underneath just in front of the radiator and we've got this push pin fastener here that we can take a trim panel tool or flat head screw driver. I'm going to use a pair of side cutters. In order to get under the center of that, pull it out, then once you get the center pulled out, the body of it should come right out with it. There's going to be one in the same location on the other side. Once we've got both removed, that plastic shield should just come right out and we'll set that aside.

Some of these are going to have room here at the end of the frame rail in order to fish our hardware in but this one doesn't have quite enough clearance between the bumper and this end of the frame rail so we're just going to take this entire bumper off. We use the 21mm socket in order to take the bolts off that attach it to the end of our frame rail. There's one there and there's going to be one on the inside of the frame rail. I'll leave that just on a couple of threads there and then go to the inside and take that one off. Then we'll go to the other frame rail and do that same thing. Then you can remove those nuts that you had loosely installed on the back side to hold it in place and carefully remove it and set it aside. Here at the front of our frame rail, we'll need to drill out this forward most hole to the size indicated in the instructions in order to get our carriage bolt to fit through there. Then I'll continue to step up drill bit sizes until I've reached the final size. Now I'll take the fish wire and send it coiled in up through the oblong hole here so that it will come up the front of our frame rail. Then once we've got our coiled in out here, we can take one of our square hole spacer blocks and 1/2" carriage bolt, then we'll put our spacer block in and pull our carriage bolt through into position. Now we can take another carriage bolt and square hole spacer block and just put them into place through that hole that we drilled out. Then we'll go to the other side and repeat that process. Now it's a good idea to grab a second set of hands in order to put your hitch up into place. We want to get the hitch up into place, then on one of them put on comical teeth washer with teeth facing up towards the hitch and then put on a 1/2" hex nut. Once you've got one started on each side, you can let it hang and get the rest of your hardware started. We'll make sure our hitch is centered and then take a 3/4" socket and begin tightening our hardware. Then we'll torque all 4 of our fasteners down to the specification listed in the instructions. Keep in mind anything that we do on one side, we'll be doing that same thing to the other side. Now we can reinstall our bumper in the reverse order that we took it off. We won't be reinstalling the plastic shield that we took off from underneath to begin the installation. That's going to complete our look at and installation of the Draw Tite front mount trailer hitch receiver, part number 65001 on our 2007 Ford E350 RV Cutaway.

Fits perfectly with my 2003 E250 Cargo Van. Installation was so simple & it only took me 45 minutes. Note that you do have to take out the bumper for the bolts to get through (See pic) Did not encounter any issues, just figuring out how to cut the flares to make it look decent. 590053

items works well, I use it to mount my spare tire to the front of the RV. Has plenty of clearance and doesn't interfere with the view of driving, which I wasn't sure about when buying it. I would recommend it! 594365

The Front Hitch Model 65001 is a Perfect fit on my Ford E350 based RV. I drive a 2005 Pleasureway RD. The front hitch allows me to put the extra storage weight such as Bicycles Racks, Tow mounted Winch or Storage box on the front suspension which gives better steering stability for Rear heavy RV vehicles. The installation was a breeze! I am 67 years old and I had no trouble installing the hitch while lying on my back without jacking up the vehicle with the hitch on my chest and your clever bolt feed system. Unpacking to final torque down of the bolts took 30 minutes by myself. I did not have to cut or remove anything from under the chassis. The holes aligned perfectly! It has been a year of use and it has no problems. 671054

2003 Ford E-450

I own a 2003 Ford E-450 RV cutaway and wanted a front hitch to carry our bicycles since our rear hitch is used for a trailer. I originally tried to mount the equivalent Curt front hitch, because of its cheaper cost, onto the vehicle. However, the Curt hitch wouldn't work because it can't adequately accommodate the slight downward hump in the truck's frame. This hump can barely be seen between the two hitch mounting bolts. The hump is on both the left and right side frame rails on my vehicle. If your frame is not totally flat (has even a small hump) you cannot use the Curt hitch. The Curt's small indentation on its mounting flange will not adequately accommodate the frame's hump. This Draw-Tite hitch, 65001, mounted perfectly on my vehicle and the installation procedures I used were exactly as depicted in the etrailer video for the E350 van. In the video, the technician uses a rotary file to expand the rearward holes to allow the insertion of the bolts. I had to do the same thing and bought a rotary file for my drill at my local home improvement store for less than $3. I did not have to use the rotary file on the forward holes. In addition, I have the larger Roadmaster front sway bar and steering stabilizer and as you can tell in the photo, there is plenty of room for the hitch. 193236

It has been a year since I installed the Draw-Tite front hitch on my E-450 Class C RV and it has been performing wonderfully. I use it to mount a 2-bicycle mounting rack from Thule and I can see over the bikes just fine and there are no strange noises or wobbling. The mounting bolts remain tight and I dont see any spots where the hitch has begun corroding. Great product from a great company. Follow the instructions and you will be fine!

Product is great. Very sturdy & very happy. Just 1 improvement will be on the shipping of the item. It arrived loose in the box, it wasn't secured enough, & it was purtruding out the side of the box. Try putting some hard foam or more durable straps to hold it in place. I know the item is real heavy, but I believe you can make it happen. Other than that, everything was great & will definitely be doing more business w/ you in the very near future. Thank you for your #1 Customer Service. That goes a long way w/ me. 467762

Front hitch mount on my E350 has been very useful as both a bike rack mount and as a forward step mount. There was no effect on ground clearance. I'd recommend this product and e-trailer's service was exceptional. 581304

Easy to install on a 2007 Coachman Freelander E-450. I didn’t even have to use the fishing wires. Now I can put the bikes in front of the rv and out of the way of my rear cargo hold. 548287

This draw-tite 65001 front hitch receiver fit perfectly on my 2000 ford e-450 cutaway (ie: a class C motorhome). Installation was a breeze, bolt holes lined up perfectly. I used a 1/2" bit to enlarge 2 factory holes as instructed. I installed this single-handedly in about an hour, including removing and re-installing front bumper. E-trailer appears to be the only party that can put stickers on straight - I don't know what these hitch makers cannot get this right. The clearance below the bumper valance is perfect - flush without distorting the plastic. While I have been wanting to add a front receiver for a while for a bike rack option, I was motivated to move quickly after getting seriously stuck in mud. Without a front hitch receiver, there is nothing to pull from on the frame - no tow hooks, etc. This is a very simple, easy solution. The entire transaction end-to-end with E-trailer was excellent. I ordered it on monday- it arrived and was installed by thursday - the price was extremely fair, and the fit was excellent. 575509

Tow bar was received quickly with out any damage. Instructions were great. Fishing wires for the bolts were fantastic. From the time I opened the box, read the instructions, examined all the parts, sharpened my 1/2" drill bit, pulled out the required tools, to the time I put everything away and washed my hands took 1.25hrs. Bolts feed through opening at the bumper mounting brackets. The flat square drive washers went in easily at the rear mount hole. I now can front in an enclosed 16' trailer down my narrow driveway. 356791

This front hitch fit perfectly on my 1999 E350 Class C Motorhome chassis. Didn't have to remove the bumper to get the bolts in. Was able to fish them through the holes in the front upper corner of the frame with the wires provided. No modifications were required. In summer I sometimes carry one of my 1969 Honda Trail 90s on the carrier up there or sometimes one of my dual sports or just a cargo carrier with my portable gas grill and a tank of propane. In winter I carry a couple of boxes of wood and my fire pit for evenings in the ski area parking lot. 564366

Product fit EXACTLY as advertised (Ford E-350 van). I was concerned about clearance on my front bumper and bumper cover....it fit perfectly. It was a bit tricky slipping the bolts and locking spacer inside the enclosed I-beam frame....but the carriage bolts will fit though the access slots (just find the right one). The threaded feeler wire works great. Overall, the price, instructions and associated support hardware made this a fairly easy task.....it took about 1.5 hours to install. 745763

Hitch arrived earlier than promised, nice surprise. Very simple to attach to my RV van. Took bumper off as instructed by video, That was easy and I attached hitch by myself. Very easy to do. The construction is very good. Heavy duty steel and all holes matched up. all nuts and bolts provided. The bolt insert wire was a nice addition to package. Helped with ease of installation. 718512

The front mount hitch arrived nicely packed. The instructions have printed diagrams. The diagram on the instruction sheet was unreadable, the print was much too light. You don't need them but I contacted customer service and they IMMEDIATELY sent me a diagram. The front two frame holes have to be relieved to one half inch which was a bit of a chore. I also had to remove my front bumper. There were not any access holes in the frame that could be used place the mounting bolts. All in all it was an easy if somewhat aggravating installation. Actual work time was probably close to two hours, including opening the mount holes, dropping the plastic splash shield, removing the bumper, and buttoning up. We have a 2004 Pleasure Way Excel TS. The hitch is to mount our bicycle carrier and because I've always wanted a truck with a front hitch. 711481

From what I researched this product was the best on the market. It installed as advertised on my E-350 van. Moving our bicycles from the back of the vehicle to the front kept them clean and eliminated the need for a swing away rack that was needed for access thru the rear doors. 697298

The product is very nicely built, solid construction after removing bumper the hitch went in my 2006 ford E-450 RV with no problems at all be prepared to have to enlarge the two front holes with a 1/2" drill bit. my only gripe is (and I have this with a lot of products) is that they put the drawtite sticker on crooked. 690753

Great product and easy install thanks to the instructions provided. Needed to carry 5 bikes on our trip so I had a rear rack for 3 and wanted a front rack for 2. With the front hitch I was able to install a bike rack up front and have been using it even when I'm carrying 1 bike. 678617

Installation pretty easy. Tip to do is grind two opposite sides of the carriage bolts top dome. This will allow bolts to feed through slotted hole in frame. Provided coiled wire guide wires for bolts works excellent. Placed hitch on floor jack and lifted over bolts and tightened down. 660039
