Installation was quick and painless. Front mounted hitch makes a world of difference when maneuvering in tight places (I wish I had installed it sooner...). I had a choice of mounting the hitch high or low on the front of my 2000 Silverado 1500 4x4. Initially I chose low because nothing else would have to be modified. But then I noticed that in the low position, it sits lower than the skid plates, and I didn't like that. I changed the mounting to the high position which necessitated cutting a square hole in the front valance so the draw bar with the hitch ball could be inserted. This was very easy though. As it turned out, the high position was much better for my particular trailer anyway. 641411

my truck is a 2002,what i figured out was, don't remove the skirt or tow hook. remove bottom bolt in tow hook [save]. attach fish wire to carrage bolt and insert it into other hole to be used. slide square hole spacer up wire in to hole.pull carrage bolt [attached to wire] through spacer & frame. YOU GOT IT. hang bracket on carrage bolt & use tow hook bolt back where it was.[it's long enough]. hold carrage bolt with grips of your likening or put 2 nuts jammed together to hold bolt while tightening. I hope it work's as easy as it sounds for you. 237694

The shipping was quick. Installed easily. The hitch is visible just below the fascia at the bottom of the bumper. I had a front hitch on my previous truck (Tacoma); also from etrailer. I use the front hitch to move my travel trailer into tight spaces. Originally, with this recent purchase, I had purchased the incorrect item. All it took was an email from the staff at etrailer. The email contained product return instructions along with an RGA#. I just returned yesterday. This extra customer service made the return process quite simple. With all my needs regarding hitches, etc. I will always check etrailer first. 152029

Installation extremely easy, line up holes and bolt together, that simple. No trimming required. Purchase front hitch to park 29 FT. camper at a cramped storage facility. Dropping the camper off now is as easy as picking up the camper. All parts well packed. Website easy to use, prices are right and easy to track shipment. Would purchase from website again. 51121

2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I gave this hits only 4 stars since all of the available information indicated it would bolt right on to my 2003 Avalanche 1500 (All Models) with no modification, but it wasn't quite that simple. First off, my Avalanche has the plastic cladding. The end brackets of the hitch push the bottom of the air dam under the bumper down a bit and make it bow out. I had to remove the bracket that secured the air dam to the center of the frame. I mounted the hitch in the upper position since I didn't want it to be so low, and the receiver ends up being 8" back from the bumper facia. I had to order an 8" extension to bring it out past the bumper. Other than that, I'm happy with the hitch. I just wish the fitment guide was a little more specific. 75440

Comments
Did the hitch still come out under the cladding? Or do u need to make a hole for extension? Thanks Bryan 2004 avalanche with clading

Since I installed the hitch in the upper position, I had to cut a hole through the claddingbumper. This came out near the bottom of the license plate recess. I then use the 8 extension if needed. This brings the receiver out in front of the bumper.

Perfect fit, quick and easy installation. Only took 25 minutes by myself. I would highly recommend this hitch. Plan using it for bike hitch, winch, cargo platform, etc. 820612

if you follow directions it is not that difficult first if you have tow hooks you have to remove them to get the back bolts in you can replace them you get that in the rest is easy. bolt the two end plate first then put the center in place. if you want to put your tow hooks back you have to go buy two metric bolts 12x1.75 x40. I put a lock washer and a flatiron mine. you can not use the bolts in the package for tow hooks unless you don't want put them back on 802813

Product arrived in a timely manner and was the right fit.. was easier to install than I thought it was going be. Took about 45 minutes. Only gripe is that the bolts that attach to the frame of truck spin even when they are in the metal plate when tightening down. Used a pair of pliers to hold end of bolt while using wrench to tighten. Other than that, exactly what I needed. 798271

I would rate this as excellent except that it arrived with one of the corners bent at the bolt hole from being dropped. It appears that this would have happened prior to packaging since there was no evidence of the chipped paint in the box. However, installation was a 40 minute job and I was able to "pull" the flange straight. Fit and installed as described and NO cutting of the bumper skirt was necessary. 762840

2004 GMC Yukon

I received the front trailer hitch very quickly and within three days had it installed. It took me, a novice, about 90 minutes. I had the 3/4 inch rackets and sockets. I also needed to use my Dremel to cut out a notch in the bottom plastic bumper. Not an issue and not much to cut away. Just the receiver needed to stick through. I was able to use the front tow hook bolts (plenty of bite) and I did not need to use the fish wire. With a little patience I was able to get the rear bolts and spacers to work in the rear hole. My bike rack with drop down hitch was a perfect fit and just cleared the license plate. Nice. The top of the mounted bikes stick above the hood a bit but that was expected and does not block the driver view much. Now, I don't have to have a super high front trailer mount as the rear of my trailer will not work for a bike rack. I am very happy with the product and service. 686579

  • What Modifications are Required to Install a Front Mount Trailer Hitch on 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500
The Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch, # 31302, can be installed on your 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD in two ways. It can be installed with the hitch receiver through the bumper which would require a 3 inch square hole to be cut into the plastic fascia, or it can be installed under the bumper which requires no trimming. The receiver opening will protrude far enough out so insert/remove the hitch pin without having to go beneath the truck. The instructions do not mention relocating the front...

Before cutting, I would strongly recommend you confirm these measurements for yourself. Install the frame brackets, then slip the hitch cross member behind the fascia. Because the fascia will be in the way, you will not be able to slide the cross member all the way forward, but if you can hold the cross member at the correct...
