Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado - Curt

Today on our 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500, we'll be installing the Curt Front Mounted Hitch, part number 31108. Here's what our hitch will look like once installed. Next, we'll give you a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch, such as a snowplow, front mounted cargo carrier, or a wench. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the front edge of our bumper is 6 inches. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 12 inches. We'll now go ahead with the installation. To begin our install, we'll first need to remove the manufacturer's tow hooks. To do that, there are 3 fasteners for each, one on each side of the tow hook, and the rear fastener here at the bottom. As we remove the tow hook fasteners, we'll go ahead and set them aside as they will not be reinstalled, but we will reuse the manufacturer's tow hook. We'll go ahead and put the tow hook back in place over the attachment points.

As we reuse the manufacturer's tow hooks we'll use the weld nuts built into the tow hook as our attachment points for the new hitch. For our bottom attachment point here in the frame, our new bolt and conkle tooth washer will go through the hitch, through the frame and into the weld nut of the tow hook. The inside attachment point is going to be the new bolt and split lock washer, going through the hitch, through the frame, and again into the weld nut. We're now ready to go ahead and put our hitch in place. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. We'll go ahead and put our hitch up to the frame and install the bottom attachment points first. Each application will be slightly different.

On applications where you have space between the frame and the hitch, you can add flat washers. They're supplied with the install kit. We'll go ahead and slide the flat washers in place, and then our fastener. Now with our hitch hardware in place, we'll go ahead and reinstall the manufacturer's bolt on the outside of the frame. Once we have all the hardware in place on both sides, we can go ahead and tighten them down. With all our fasteners tightened down, we can go ahead and torque to specifications, as indicated in the instructions. That will complete the install of our Curt Front Mounted Hitch, part number 31108 on our 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500. .

I would add to your instruction, if you have the factory hooks, remove the four bolts as stated and give to customer, " loosen the other two bolts on the outside of frame" this gives you a little wiggle room to start the new bolts. BUT great product and great people. 137891

I received the product (hitch) today and haven't had the opportunity to put it on my truck. I hope to do that this week or next. I can write an additional review at that time. Wayne H. did a great job clarifying which hitch would be best for my needs. I'll summit a picture after it is installed. 168830

I love the product. It has come in lhandy many times when moving my trailer and boats. I would definitely purchase another if I ever purchase another truck in the future. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Unbelievable how clean the install is for this product!! I was certain I would have to do some cutting or drilling, however not a single cut or new hole required. The product fit like it was straight from the factory ... even with the existing front Grille Guard that I have on my truck!! I also appreciate the FAST shipping and customer service, as tracking info was emailed after the product shipped without requesting this info and the product arrived within the same week. I've already recommended etrailer to other landscapers on lawnsite.com, as we're always looking for front-mount solutions for spreaders and other landscape equipment. 114724

I have to say that I absolutely LOVE this product!! It works perfect for mounting my walk-behind fertilizer spreader to the front of my truck while having the larger PermaGreen spreader on the back of my truck. Having this front-mounted hitch has allowed me to carry both of my spreaders and not sprain my back while wrestling the smaller spreader out of the bed of my truck as I had before.

2002 GMC HD Duramax

This front bumper hitch I got for my 02 GMC HD Duramax, the tow vehicle for my Airstream. The hitch is for a bike rack, and maybe a winch. The hitch took longer to ship, about 5 days, than most eTrailer orders that I have made in the past, but they did email me and let me know. It arrived by UPS in good condition, although there was very little packing in the box. Guess a trailer hitch not really a fragile product in any case. So on arrival I mounted it right away. I used an ATV jack to lift it into place. Without the lift I would have had to have someone else help me. Following the directions I was disappointed that I was going to have to remove the factory tow hooks and not use them again. I had the hitch in place and loosely bolted in about a half an hour without the hooks in place, when I realized I had extra bolts to mount it with the tow hooks! So I started over, and then the job got much harder. Alignment with the threaded tow hooks was a chore, with repeated attempts to get all six bolts and spacers in place. This took a couple of hours or more. It was impossible to get a torque wrench on all of the bolts or even a socket wrench, so a couple of bolts I only tightened with a poorly fitting end wrench. A line up tool and an air ratchet are very helpful, as there is very little room for working. Final note, the plastic air dam did not require trimming at all and just pulled up in front of the hitch. It looks fine. The drawbar protrudes a little lower than I would like, but it is really the only visible part. Overall the hitch fit the GMC quite well. The hardware package was complete, and the instructions were adequate. Other than the hassle of aligning the heavy lump I am happy with the purchase. 86698

2004 GMC Sierra

The Front Mount Hitch is very solid, well built and fits like a glove, no truck modifications required. I installed it on my '04 GMC Sierra Dually to make storing the boat in the "Toy Box" much easier. I was previously backing the Triple Axial Trailer about 700 feet from the street to the "Box" between a 2 foot tall rock planter box and Avocado trees. Truck mirrors were not adequate and spousal help created too much frustration so I bought the hitch 546135

2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

This "more-or-less" fitted without adjustment. I have a chevy Avalanche 2500 with tow hooks on both sides. I have a bull bar attached. The mounting bracket for the bull bar uses the bottom mount point and the outside mounting point of the tow hooks. This hitch uses the bottom mount point and the inside mounting point of the tow hooks. The threads for the mounting bolts are integral with the tow hooks - so they are absolutely fixed relative to each other. I spent the best part of an hour and a half wrestling, levering, grunting, swearing etc trying to get the 6 bolts in and threaded. Too hard. I decided to remove the tow hooks completely and instead bolt each side. I went to the hardware store and bought a couple of grade 8+ bolts (for the bottom holes) , lock nuts, and heavy fender washers. The rest of the job took 30 minutes. I'm only giving 4 stars. If the instructions had given tow hook removal as a suggestion and added a couple of additional hardware items - then it would have been 5 stars. 541942

Front hitch for 2005 Chevy 2500hd that I ordered from etrailer.com 488917

Chevrolet

My order arrived quickly and on time. Both the Curt Hitch and the RV receiver were in excellent condition. I could not be more pleased with how easy to was to install the Curt front receiver on my Chevy diesel truck. It took maybe 30 minutes. The hardest part was access ing the frame side bolts and holes to tighten them, but really not a big deal at all. The hitch fit perfectly with no modification or cutting to the front plastic air dam required. It looks great! I needed the front hitch to better maneuver my 26 ft travel trailer and boat trailers around my property. A front hitch makes safely placing a trailer exactly where you want it a breeze. 479376

2006 Chevrolet Silverado

The product is fairly straight forward to install. You will need a jack or another body to help hold in place while bolting it on. My 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD did not have towing hooks from the factory, so it was a little more challenging, because I did not want to remove the front air dam. After the install, it looks like it belongs there and is well engineered. I would buy it again if I had to. 358425

Very pleased with the quick response and shipping of the Curt Front Mount, I will be using it for a Snow Plow. The mounting and instructions were excellent and I had it in place in less than an hour. As I am Canadian , I had to pick it up at a U.S. postal outlet, and was able to order it and have it on my truck in less than a week. Thank you for everything, especially your promptness. Will certainly recommend your company to others Barry 168544

2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

2002 Avalanche z71 8.1L 4x4 with cladding. Not a 30 minute job on my model, but certainly worth the extra time. Best price I could find. The front cladding had to be trimmed a bit, but this was an easy task with a multi-tool and wood saw bit. Also, the front support for the cladding, just below the front license plate had to be removed; the new hitch pretty much took its place so no big deal. A bottle jack help a whole bunch as it held the hitch in place as it as mounted. After the project was finished, the only part and/or modification visible was the receiver itself. 156780

2003 GMC Sierra

This is the second hitch I've ordered for my truck. This hitch was very easy to install on the front of my GMC Sierra and is almost unnoticeable, which I like. I use it to transport a small Honda Trail 90 motorcycle, and it's 9000lb rating is well above what I am asking it to do. It arrived via UPS several days after ordering, was in good shape, and only took ten minutes to install with only two different size socket wrenches. Highly recommend this unit for the front of any truck. 106857

15 minute, piece of cake single-handed install. Instructions say cutting fascia optional on 2500. Not even close to needing to. Truck is 2005 Silverado 2500HD. Receiver sits up there nice and tight, so doesn't change ground clearances. 99139

Product arrived on schedule. Instructions easy to follow. The inner frame bolts were difficulty to access once the receiver was in place. Overall, a relatively easy job to install. Do you have a question about this Front Hitch?

  • Comparing Curt and Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitches for a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500
  • It all depends on your 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 is a light duty or a heavy duty. If it is a light duty then I give the edge to Curt, # 31302, because their powder coating holds up well and the hitch is made in the USA. If you have a 1500HD then Draw-Tite hitch # 65028 is more popular but again I would give the edge to Curt # 31108 for the same reasons described above. I have linked videos showing example installations of both hitches for you. In either case both the Curt and Draw-Tite...

The Draw-Tite hitch, item # 65023, for the 1500LD series truck does not require trimming of the fascia in most cases, see photo. • The Draw-Tite front mount hitch # 65028 and the Curt Front Hitch # 31108 are very similar, but they are not the same hitch. This was not intentional, the manufacturers just so happened to come up with very similar designs for the hitch coincidentally. • Recommended Front Hitch For A 2004 GMC Yukon Denali XL And Hitch Mounted 4 Bike Carrier
  • For your 2004 GMC Yukon Denali XL, I recommend the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver 2", # 31302 for a 1500 series. This is a confirmed fit for your vehicle and installation will not require any drilling, but will require trimming of the front air dam and/or fascia. For a 2500 series, I recommend the # 31108 which will also include trimming the air dam and/or fascia. This hitch will use the OEM Tow hook fastener bolts to install the hitch and due to variations in the tow hook fasteners...

  • Front Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 Light Duty or Heavy Duty
  • If your 2001 Chevy Silverado is a Light Duty model we have a couple of front mount hitches that will fit; # 65023 and # 31302. If it was a 1500 Heavy Duty model then you would use # 65028 or # 31108. The differences between the LD and HD models of the 1500 require different hitches for each.

  • Cargo Carrier for Front Mounted Receiver on 2005 Silverado to Carry Chest Freezer Full of Elk
  • What are the dimensions of the freezer you're asking about? The standard railed carrier, like the Pro Series # 63153 measures 24x60. For something a bit narrow and longer at 47x 20-1/2, take a look at the MaxxTow # MT70108. Both carriers have a 500 lb capacity, but keep in mind that the weight of the carrier plays into the tongue weight as well. The carrier, the freezer and the meat in the freezer couldn't weigh more than 500 lbs. You should also consider that carrying a freezer...

  • Front Hitch Recommendation for a 2003 GMC Sierra 3/4 ton Truck
  • Between the two hitches the one that is confirmed to fit your 2003 GMC Sierra 3/4 ton truck would be the # 31108. The # 31302 that you also referenced is designed to fit only the 1500 LD models so it wouldn't be the correct hitch for you. That is the difference between the two part numbers.

  • Comparison Of Draw-Tite And Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch For 2006 Chevrolet Silverado
  • Since both of the front-mount trailer hitches for your 2006 Silverado have the same features and capacity I recommend going with the less-expensive option. The Draw-Tite hitch, part # 65028 and the Curt, part # 31108 use the same holes in the vehicle frame for installation and both require trimming of the fascia on some models so I recommend going with the less expensive # 65028.

  • Recommendation on a Front Hitch to Fit a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 3500
  • We have two front mounted hitches that will fit your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 truck. Of the two, I recommend the Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch, # 65028. The Draw-Tite hitch is custom-fit and will install on the front of your Silverado with no drilling required. Some trimming of the bumper air dam and fascia may need to be done to properly fit hitch to the truck. I like the Draw-Tite hitch over the Curt Hitch, # 31108, becauce the Draw-Tite hitch has the same weight capacities,...

  • What Front Mount Hitch Should I use for My 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 Extended Cab Z71
  • LD stands for light duty. If your truck is badged as a 1500HD, you would use Curt part # 31108 instead. If your truck is not badged with HD, then you would use the 31302 for your front mount. If you have the Vortec 4800 or Vortec 5300 V8, you definitely have an LD. The 1500HD trucks got the Vortec 6000 V8.
