Dimensions

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

The electric lockout is automatically activated when you shift your tow vehicle into reverse. The included solenoid wires into your trailer connector - which connects to your tow vehicle - so that it can detect when you are in reverse. When your vehicle is in reverse, the solenoid ensures that the hydraulic actuator does not activate your trailer's brakes, thus allowing you to back up your rig. To use the lockout feature, you must have a 5-pole flat, 6-way round, or 7-pole trailer connector.

Video Transcript for Titan Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator - T4839100 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at a Swing-Away Actuator. Now, this is a space-saving, swing-away design, so that the actuator actually swings back, which is going to create a shorter tongue for storage. The foldaway portion can swing either right or left, so you have our pivot bolt right here, and then you have the pin that would be removed. I do want to mention that the pivot bolt can be installed on either side, so it can swing either right or left. Once you remove that pin, basically what you can do is you can take the coupler, or the actuator, and you can rotate it and it brings it down to this, so it allows for a nice space-saving design. It's going to be a perfect solution for convenient storage of your trailer, especially in maybe a smaller, shorter garage, or shorter space. Now, the hydrolic actuator is designed to synchronize the trailer brakes with your tow vehicle brakes. It does come with the manual reverse lock out, so it's going to come with this easy-to-use break lock out bracket.

This actuator includes an electronic solenoid to control the hydrolic break pressure, so you'll only need to use this bracket when not connected to the tow vehicle's 12-volt DC backup light circuit. This is very easy to use. It installs in this area here. When in reverse, that prevents the solenoid from compressing, which is going to prevent your brakes from being engaged when backing up. The unit also comes with a break-away kit. That's this cable and hook.

This connects to your tow vehicle. In the event where your vehicle separates from the trailer, pull the cable, which would activate the trailer's brakes, bringing it to an eventual safe stop. It's a bolt-on installation. The unit is going to feature a steel construction with a zinc coating, so it's going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. It also has a cap right here, so you remove that cap. Underneath that cap is going to be a plug.

You remove that plug and then you'll have access to the brake fluid reservoir. The connection point for the hydrolic line is right at the back of that solenoid. If you can see it in there, I know it's tight to see, but the connection point for the hydrolic line is located right there at the back of the solenoid. Again, manual and hardware is included. It's going to come with a total of six bolts and six lock nuts, three mounting points on top, three mounting points on the bottom. The unit's designed for a 2" hitch ball, it's going to offer a capacity of 7500 pounds, with a maximum towing weight capacity of 750 pounds. The way that you operate the coupler head here is you need to remove this pin.

It's got the thumb latch right here. You do that, lift up, it opens it up to accept a 2" ball. When you have the ball connected, just push this down and then place your pin back through, and it's going to secure it on there. Now, underneath the coupler head is a tab that can be pushed. Right here, there's an indicator that says, Before Towing, push up on the tab under the actuator to assure that the brakes are released. You want to do that every time before you tow, just to make sure your brakes are released. This is designed to work with a 3" by 5" ride channel tongue. If you have a 3" by 3" tongue, or a 3" by 4" tongue, you will need to use an adapter spacer kit, which is sold separately and available here at etrailer.com. I took a measurement of the overall length from very edge to very edge and got about 28-3/4 of an inch, from the center of the pivot bolt to the front measured about 23-1/2, from the center of the pivot bolt to the back measured about 5-1/2 inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the Swing-Away Actuator.

We can[t get the bolts out to work the hinge. We've applied a tension release oil and hammered away -- but still too tight. Other than that it seems like a big improvement over the previous actuator/coupler. 202527

Have had for about a year and just installed it.When I took the cap off to put brake fluid in I found the master cylinder about 1/2 full of water.Hitch assy .was stored in my garage until last week when I installed it.Cylinder bound up with rust.Since I did not check unit when I received it I am going to take the blame--I should have checked it out immediately after receipt. I ordered new cylinder and during the installation process I found the fitting in the end or the defective cylinder was for one for drum brakes(small hole in it).Makes me think someone put this defective cylinder in before it was shipped to me---but can't prove that either. I have the same hitch on another trailer I have had for several years and really like it.Has manual lock out + the solenoid for electrical lock out.Love the way it locks down on the ball. Lesson learned--inspect everything immediately upon receipt-especially pull the caps and look in the cylinders-check everything twice--cost me a second cylinder --won't happen again. 392573

Just finished swapping the drum brake actuator on my Karavan Trailer for a Titan disc brake actuator. Process has been more time consuming than I had hoped, but things are coming together. The Titan actuator appears well made and etrailer has provided excellent support when I needed a few extras. Only rated 4 stars because packaging was insufficient to prevent some nylon friction washers from being damaged in shipping. Overall very satisfied and I will go to etrailer first for my future trailer needs. 436462

Review from a similar Titan Aero 7500 in Brake Actuator

We converted a tandem axle boat trailer to disk from drum. The kit worked out well with the exception of the surge hitch. The latch was flawed. When the customer pulled up the boat ramp the hitch popped off. This was after he had towed it 200 miles on the freeway, which could have been disastrous. Fortunately, no harm was done. I sent pictures to George who put me in contact with manufacturer. They were anxious to admit fault and sent a replacement. Etrailer was excellent to work with. 260093

I really like this hitch it was easy to install works great. I gave it 4 star rating because it didn't come with the outer cap to prevent dirt around the master cylinder and the inner moving parts of the hitch. I had to order it separate from the hitch. Plus pay a separate shipping charge. The cap should be part of tbe hitch assembly 561343

Review from a similar Titan Aero 7500 in Brake Actuator

I have a 2011 Lund impact 1775 on a Shorelander single axle trailer which tips the scale around 2500# dry. I felt that surge brakes would be a smart investment and take some pressure off my Ford F150 to help stop that beast. I researched kits, actuators, calipers and rotors and decided on the Kodiak caliper and rotor kit and the Titan actuator. eTrailer had both in stock, a convenient hose kit to boot and fair price so I purchased the lot from them. Delivery was very quick and all of the hardware arrived together and in good shape. It took me one afternoon to assemble the actuator on my swing \-away tongue and another to install the calipers and rotors. There was one snag with the hose kit, in that one of the hoses was incorrect. I contacted Bryan at eTrailer and he was very accommodating; rushing the correct hose to me and then following up by phone when I received it. It took about two hours to finish the installation and I couldn't be more pleased, both with the quality of the products and the first-rate service! I have yet to bleed the system and take it out for a run but I don't anticipate any issues. I fully recommend eTrailer, their products and service! 468408

I want to thank you again for your assistance in getting me the correct parts for my trailer brake installation. I took three major road trips with the boat last year and the trailer brakes worked flawlessly. The major reasons I installed the braking system were: the overall weight of the boat and trailer in relationship to my pickup 2006 F150 and braking performancesafety on wetslick roads. Both of these concerns were tested last year with wonderful results. I have been telling my friends, with similar trailer packages, to investigate your product. Thanks again,

Review from a similar Titan Aero 7500 in Brake Actuator

5 years ago I purchased a disc brake kit for my 24' boat trailer. It had the standard rusted out drum kits so I thought to make the move to disc, as I do my boating in the saltchuck. The install went super easy and it has given me great service. So, I have a new trailer that needs a full rebuild of the brakes. I started on the website, and as I was assembling my order, a couple of questions come up. So I called Customer Support. Katie was the one who answered the phone and walked me through what was needed, confirmed the differences in a couple of the components that were not explained on the website. Even tracked down one of the technical guys to explain the backup valve functionality. She then walked through the parts listing to confirm, so when it arrives, there would be no surprises or shortages. Here next step was to confirm shipping dates. She checked stock on all the parts, a couple were back ordered, so she confirmed when they were to arrive, so the 1 shipment would be complete. As I am in Canada, coordinated with the broker to get the parts to me. At the end of the call, I had the pricing, which was AWESOME, confirmation of shipping dates and contact info, if I had questions or concerns. The day she said it would arrive at the broker, it DID! She followed up with the status! Looking forward to getting the system installed next week! Thanks again for great service and having knowledgeable folks to work with! 435462

The kit was fairly strait forward, but the included instructions are not complete. There was nothing for the installation of the hubs, rotors, bearings, or calipers. Customer service was able to email me some generic instructions that helped. etrailer's customer service is excellent, when I discovered some bolts missing from the box and had no time to wait for replacements to be shipped out Anna from etrailer made sure that I got refunded the cost of the bolts. I am very satisfied with the service I received and will defiantly be doing business with etrailer again! 170384

Great piece blows the old attwood for drums i had out of the water no more having to hold the tounge open to get ball to seat. Oh not to mention you can get across the trailer without killing your self and catching shorts and pants on coupler. Great upgrade for ski boat trailer! Worth the extra $. Latch is so much more secure. 479695

Great product. I replaced my old, ineffective drum brakes with new disk brakes and a new coupler / actuator. Much more effective braking on my trailer now. Well worth the cost and effort to possibly save an accident with the crummy old drum brakes. Even better than the great product is the fantastic service from eTrailer support. I had several questions that they helped me through. They even pulled a caliper from their stock so they could see exactly what I was asking about and helped me resolve the issue. Always prompt, courteous and thorough. I never felt like they were hurrying to get me off the phone. Thanks eTrailer! 308465

Now for your product and company, let me say you are one of the few that I have done business with and I have to rate your complete service from start to finish as one if not the BEST I have done business with. • Can a Fold-Away Trailer Tongue Hinge Kit Work with Hydraulic Surge Brakes
  • You can use a fold-away hinge kit with a surge coupler but you will need to replace the hard brake line with a flexible hose like # T0777300 that you have referenced. For fold-away drum brake applications use # T4839000. For a 3 x 4 inch tongue use 2 adapters # T4842100. For disc brakes use # T4839100 and 1 of the adapters. You would still need flexible brake line with either of these couplers.

  • Ranger Trail Boat Trailer Replacement Swing Away Actuator Recommendation
  • The best solution we can provide is to replace the entire swing away actuator with something like the part # T4839100 for a disc brakes that bolts on or the part # T4839000 for drum brakes that bolt on. I couldn't find any information on actuators that are marked TEO.

  • Availability of Tandem Axle Disc Brake Kit with 6 on 5-1/2 Inch Bolt Pattern
  • We do have a large selection of disc brakes available with a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern (along with the additional parts needed), however there is not a complete kit available for this bolt pattern like the Titan Disc Brake Kit # T4843400 that you mentioned. I have attached a link that will take you to our available selection of disc brakes with a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. You will want to determine the axle capacity on your trailer along with your existing inner and outer bearings...

  • Tracker Trailstar Swing Away Tongue Actuator Replacement Recommendation
  • The great thing about trailer actuators is that as long as you match up the capacity, brake style, and ball size a new coupler will easily work well. So as long as your trailer currently has disc brakes, weighs less than 7,500 lbs, and has a coupler for a 2 inch ball the Titan Swing Away Coupler part # T4839100 that you referenced will fit and work well. Titan actuators like this are very well made which makes them very reliable. Also, in the even you need replacement parts for it they...

  • Compatibility of Titan Disc Brake Actuating Coupler with Swing Away on 3x3 and 3x4 Inch Tongue
  • The Swing-Away Actuator w/ Electric Lockout for Disc Brakes # T4839100 is designed for use with 3x5 inch channels but will also mount on a 3-inch by 3-inch, or a 3-inch by 4-inch tongue when you use spacer blocks. For a 3x3 inch square tube you would use two of the Titan Adapter Kit for Swing-Away Brake Actuators - 1" Spacer # T4842100. I've attached videos to assist. This combination will work well for your trailer.

  • Recommended Swing Away Actuator For 2006 Reliable Boat Trailer
  • We have 2 similar actuators, both from Titan; # T4839100 and # T4839000. Without knowing what part is failing, it is difficult to know what you need, especially without knowing which manufacturer made your actuator. If these products match yours, then I can definitely help further. For a gasket, we have the Replacement Gasket for Older Orifice Fitting - Titan Model 10 and Model 20 Brake Actuators # T0774500 or the Replacement Master Cylinder Gasket for Titan Model 60 and Aero 7500...

  • Using Safety Cables or Chains with Titan Swing Away Actuator on Trailer
  • Safety chains and cables, such as the Curt Single Hook # C80136, are generally attached to the trailer itself and not the coupler. Since there is not really a good attachment point on the Titan Swing-Away Actuator # T4839100, this will be the best route. If your trailer does not have any good mounts on which to attach the cables, you can install some like the Brophy Mounting Bracket # MB12. I have attached a short video demonstration on this part that you can also check out.

  • Replacement Disc Brake Surge Coupler for 2004 Nitro Boat Trailer
  • We can help you with a new surge brake coupler for your straight-tongue boat trailer. Your photo shows a label indicating the old coupler is designed for disc brakes which will use a coupler with higher pressure than a coupler for drum brakes. For a 6K disc brae coupler you can use Demco part # DM8605101 which includes an electric lockout feature or 7K Titan coupler # T47154107K if you do not need a lockout (as when the trailer has free-backing brakes). Both fit a 3-inch wide channel...

  • Will Titan Aero 7500 Swing-Away Actuator # T4839100 Fit a Mastercraft Boat Trailer
  • I went out to the warehouse to measure the spacing and bolt/pin diameter on the Titan Aero 7500 Swing-Away Actuator # T4839100. The distance between the pin and the pivot bolt is 3-1/4 inches on center. The pin/bolt diameter is 3/4 inches. I could not say if this is a direct replacement for the one on your Mastercraft trailer so you would need to go by the measurements. This coupler can be used for a 3 x 5 inch tongue as is. If you have a 3 x 4 inch tongue you would need a spacer...

  • Bolt Spacing For Titan Swing-Away Actuator w/ Manual Lockout - Disc
  • For the Titan Swing-Away Actuator s/ Manual Lockout # T4839100 referenced in your question, there is a distance of 3-1/4 inches on center between the pin and the pivot bolt. This does not appear that it will match up with the existing bracket on your trailer. The bolt itself is 3/4 inches in diameter. This actuator is designed to mount onto 3 inch x 5 inch wide channel tongues. For 3 inch x 4 inch tongues, you will just the Space Kit # T4842100. If you have a 3 inch x 3 inch tongue,...

  • Installation of Bolt-On Titan Swing-Away Actuator
  • Looking at the installation instructions for the Titan Swing-Away Actuator w/ Manual Lockout - Bolt On # T4839100 referenced in your question, the 3 bolt holes needed should be 0.531 inches in diameter. You will use 1/2 inch x 4 inch grade 5 bolts, nuts and lock washers to bolt the actuator onto the tongue. If you will decide later that you would like to weld the Titan Actuator to your trailer tongue, this should not be a problem. As you mentioned, the only real difference between the...

  • Boat Trailer Coupler with Reverse Lockout Stops Working
  • The Titan Aero 7500 Swing-Away Actuator with Manual Lockout # T4839000 that you referenced is designed to allow a trailer with hydraulic DRUM brakes (both uni-servo and duo-servo types) to be backed up without the brakes actuating. This type of coupler has a manual lockout, rather than an electrically activated lockout like # T4339720, that requires you to set the lever in the correct position before backing the trailer. I researched your trailer actuator, a UFP model A-75, and found...

  • Replacement for Reliable ACT-7.5K Brake Actuator on Mastercraft Trailer
  • I do have a full replacement for you but we do not offer replacement parts for the Reliable ACT-7.5K Brake Actuator unfortunately. For a full replacement, the best option we have for you is the Swing-Away Actuator w/ Electric Lockout part # T4839100 for disc brakes or the Swing-Away Actuator w/ Manual Lockout part # T4839000 for drum brakes. • Comparing Boat Trailer Surge Couplers with Manual and Electric Reverse Lockout
  • Between a manual reverse lockout and an electric reverse lockout on your boat trailer brake actuator the electric option does avoid the need to get out of the vehicle each time you need to back up the trailer. An electric reverse lockout feature automatically disengages the surge coupler when you shift the vehicle into reverse; it does this by taking in the backup light signal from the vehicle and sending this to a solenoid that blocks the hydraulic fluid from reaching the disc brakes....

  • Brake Actuator Without Electric Lockout for Trailer with Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R526S
  • I recommend taking a look at the Titan Swing-Away Actuator with Manual Lockout, 7,500 Pounds, # T4839100. This hydraulic actuator synchronizes the trailer brakes with those on the tow-vehicle and no electrical wiring is required. Now for the brake lines. There really would be no need to change them because your current lines will support the increased psi.
