Video Transcript for Review of SeaSucker Marine Fishing Rod Holders - Aluminum Fishing Rod Holder - SS39FR

Ellen: Hey, everyone! I'm Ellen, here at etrailer.com, and today we're going to be taking a look at the SeaSucker aluminum rod holder. So, this gives you a nice place to stash your fishing rod while you're getting ready to get out on the water, or while you're out on the water. It can attach to just about any kind of non-porous surface. So, something that's relatively smooth. And even if it has a curvature to it, it should be able to attach pretty simply. The way it does that is by using this vacuum cup, which is going to hold really, really strong to whatever surface you mount it on.The way it does that is by using a little pump to remove the air from behind this cup, and create that nice vacuum-tight seal. So, as you push on that little pump, it's going to create that vacuum and hold this whole thing really securely. The holder portion itself is made out on an aluminum material, so it's still pretty lightweight even though it's a nice beefy material, or a nice beefy size.

There is kind of a rubbery insert in there, so it's going to protect your fishing rod from any kind of scratches from that metal contact. And then on either end, there will be two little bumpers to sort of help brace it against whatever surface you mount it to.So, to take a look at how this is going to work, I've got a little setup over here so you can look at how it installs. It's pretty simple. It's tool-free, so relatively straightforward. Now, they do suggest that you wet this cup before you put it on there. I'm going to skip that step just for time's sake, but I would highly suggest you do it because it makes it a lot easier to remove whenever the time comes to do that.I'm also going to be doing this upside down so that you can see this little plunger.

Normally you'd want to have it the other way, but just because of how I had to set this up today, this is what we're doing. So, you just place it on the spot you want it to be mounted on. This one does take a little bit of space to actually get it attached. And then you're going to push on that plunger until that orange portion is completely gone, until we can't see it anymore. So, you can kind of see the cup starting to flatten out. Those little braces on either side are getting closer to that surface. So, now it's completely attached.

Even if I'm trying to really pull this off, it's bending the board I have this attached to rather than coming off. It really holds on there tightly. It also doesn't really want to twist. The only twist I'm getting in it is just from the mounting plate of where it's bolted to this top piece. The cup itself doesn't twist at all, so it's really, really tight on there.

Holds really well. This cup has a 210 pound weight rating, or pole rating, for the capacity on this. It has a load rating of 70 pounds. So, that's usually a third of the actual pole rating. Definitely should be enough to hold all kinds of fishing rods for you.The size on it is 10 inches tall by four and three-quarter inches deep. That's whenever this cup is not completely collapsed, so that's its max depth. And then the width is going to be six inches. That's going from the edge of the cup on this side to when this plunger is all the way out, because it comes out a little bit further than that cup.The cup size itself is six inches in diameter. You'll need to have about eight inches, maybe eight and a half inches, of space to mount this, to have room for those little braces. To have something to push against so that they're not wobbling around. It does make this really, really sturdy and really stable. I think it's going to do a great job of holding up just about any kind of fishing rod that you might have for it.Now, to detach this, it's a pretty easy process. You just want to make sure that you push up on one of these two tabs. That's going to break the seal. Again, this is where that water behind the cup is going to make a big difference. Since I don't have any, I might have to kind of claw at this to get it off. And I just have this sort of little easel. So, bear with me. But it shouldn't take too much to pry it off of there. You can see how much I was pulling and pushing on this. It wasn't moving at all. But just by breaking that seal with my fingers, kind of getting underneath it and pulling that up, we can take it off pretty easy. That's what those tabs are going to do as well. They're going to let that come up and break that seal. Really can't be done unless you are really clawing at the cup itself. So, it's not like a heavy wind is going to be able to pull this off.I really like SeaSucker stuff. I think they do a really nice job of creating a very secure attachment point. It's a tool-free thing. If you're going out on the water anyway, you got plenty of water to moisten this up with, and that's all you really need to get it installed. There's a little stopper at the bottom to stop your fishing rod from going down. The internal width, so the size of rod you can fit in there, the diameter, it's about one and seven-eighths inches. Just under two inches, with that plastic insert in there. I don't think you can remove that. You might be able to get that out of there if you need a little bit bigger width. But that probably should do most people just fine. All in all, I think this is going to be a really easy way to transport your fishing rods around. We do have another one that's specifically for fly rods. So, if you want one that has a notch in the middle for that reel to sit in place, you can find that right here at etrailer.com. But that's pretty much going to do it for me. This does have a limited lifetime warranty, and it is made in the U.S.A.So, I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right one for you. Thanks for watching.
