The one-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel hitch provides absolute security with its wraparound design. Increased jaw-to-king-pin contact results in not only a stronger connection, but less noisy rattling and stiff chucking as well.


The jaw is also always ready to receive, so you don't need to use the handle to open it before backing up toward your trailer. As long as the bail pin is removed from the latching handle, the jaw will accept the king pin as it enters the hitch.


Finally, the jaw is self-latching, so it will automatically secure your trailer's king pin when it moves into the jaw.


Quiet, Comfortable Ride

Pivot Bushings

In addition to the tight jaw tolerance, a close connection between the head and the pivot bushings further reduces rattle and movement. And because the pivot bushings are independent from the head, they can be tightened to ensure a strong connection over time.


King Pin Indicator Prevents High Pinning

This M5 hitch features a built-in king pin indicator to ensure proper hookup. This indicator is located on the back of the head along with a V-shaped notch that are both visible from the cab of your truck. The V-notch is lined up with the jaw at the front of the hitch, and can be used as a guiding point to line the king pin up with the jaw as you back up your truck. The jaw also has an internal plate that keeps the king pin from entering if it is too high to enter safely. As a result, the king pin indicator will only change from red to green if the king pin is fully engaged in the jaw.

Today we're going to take a look at the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for the Ford towing prep package. Has a 20,000 pound weight capacity. Now this is a custom fit part, it is designed to fit the 2011 and newer Ford F250, F350, AND F450 Super Duty truck with an eight foot bed and the OEM prep package. Now on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle and it'll show if this will work for your application.Now this fifth wheel hitch will mount in your truck bed so that you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. It is designed to work with the factory installed fifth wheel towing prep package from Ford.This hitch does use a single piece, always ready talon jaw here that'll wrap totally around the kingpin, helps ensure proper connection. This type of design offers superior jaw to kingpin contact for maximum security, minimum rattle, and the jaw is always ready to receive so you don't have to constantly open the hitch before hooking up.Does use a fully articulating head with extra large landing area, eases hookup, helps limit chucking.

The articulating head does go front to back and side to side. If you notice, has a large V notch here, makes it very easy to target the kingpin as you back up and it does offer built in shock dampening technology to help absorb any road shock.You notice on the stance of it, wide goes out, it's a nice wide center section to create solid stable towing experience. And it does offer a high pin lockout to ensure proper engagement.Basically right on the corner here it has a tow and no tow indicator on the hitch head and that's visible from the cab or from the side of the truck that you can see it. Basically I'm going to spin it around just so you can see. If I spin this around enough, you'll see right on the corner, you can see that red spot right there.

That's showing you now, the red means it's indicating not ready to tow. So you're ready to hook up. Once the kingpin slides in and you hook up, the latch will come around, lock into place, the handle will move in, and then it'll show green there. That means you're all ready to tow once it shows the green there. So and again, that's very easy to see from either the cab or the side of the truck bed.Now they do offer a four inch vertical hitchhike adjustment to fit your application.

Hitch height is critical when you're towing cause when you're towing you always want your tow vehicle and your fifth wheel to be as level as possible. So when you bolt these legs to the center section, there's three rows of holes. So it gives you a four inch vertical height adjustment. You just put it in to fit your application.The handle on this as a nice ergonomic, easy to reach handle, lets you secure the trailer to the hitch. Comes with this pin and clip that you drop through the holes when it's locked into place and that'll keep it locked in and the holes are large enough that you could actually put a padlock through there if you prefer for extra security.

Padlocks we do sell separately.Now you can also improve the cab clearance with the offset design of the center section right here and basically it's how it's installed. Right now how it's installed, there's two pins up here that the head sits on and these pins are sitting closest to the cab. So what you could do is if you wanted to gain an extra inch and a half, you can take your head off, take your legs off, spin that center section around, put the legs back, put the head, and that will gain an extra inch and a half of clearance for you. Now this is a very fast, easy installation. Basically when you go to install this, it just drops right into the four receiver pucks that are built into the factory underbed rails. All you have to do first is remove this lynch pin, rotate these handles 90 degrees, and when you do that it'll rotate those tabs into the open position. You'll do the same thing on the other side over here. Just drop them into the receiver pucks. Once they dropped into place, rotate the handles back and that'll rotate those tabs and lock it into the puck system on your truck and then drop your lynch pin through there and that will lock the handles in place. And again you'll do the same over on this side and then you're all ready to go. And again to remove it, just open them up, rotate the handle and you can pull it out of the truck bed. These parts are a sturdy steel construction. They have a nice durable powder coat finish to them. Now the handle, the jaw, the latches are all zinc plated to help resist corrosion.Again, the application on this, it's designed to fit 2011 and newer Ford F250, F350, and F450 Super Duty trucks with the eight foot bed and the OEM prep package. Gross towing weight capacity is 20,000 pounds. Vertical load limit or pin weight capacity is 5,000 pounds.And the last thing I want to show you is how the kingpin would slide in here. So right now it's in the ready to receive position. It's showing red, so you're ready to hook up. So I got an example here of a kingpin, this is what a kingpin would look like on your fifth wheel trailer. So when you're backing up, this kingpin right here would slide in, open that jaw, and you can see when it opens it far enough and it gets in there, the jaw will completely wrap around and lock it into place. The handle, if you heard, goes up, lines the holes up here and you look here and it'll show green. Green means you're all ready to tow. So that's good to go. Drop your pin through the two holes, latch it, and holds the handle in place. You're ready to go off and tow. And then when you want to unhitch, just pull your pin and clip out, take your handle, pull it out, rotate it all the way far back as it goes. That'll release the jaw in there, and then when you back or pull away from your fifth wheel, the weight of the fifth wheel will pull that kingpin right out. So simple as that. And then all you have to do is move your handle back into ready to receive position. Since the website did not have a PDF file on how to assemble the hitch (I have had a couple and each on had a PDF file on the website on how to put it together) I jumped to the conclusion that it was shipped assembled. To my surprise it arrived in three (3) boxes and yep had to put it together. I haven't used it yet but it seems like a it will do the job. I would have given it 4.9 stars since I had to put it together but the review would only accept 5 so I gave it 5... :-) 651974

Would have rated this higher but assemby was not user friendly. First, when the two legs were powder coated the threaded holes should have been covered instead of being filled with the black finish. Secondly, you have to torque the bolts to 220 foot pounds. Difficult to say the least even if you have the proper tool. Other than that the unit is very high quality and should be good for years. 656294
