Elite Series Jaw

Forged, Self-Latching Jaw

The one-piece, self-latching jaw on this fifth-wheel hitch provides absolute security with its wraparound design. Increased jaw-to-king-pin contact results in not only a stronger connection, but less rattle and movement as well. And the convenient lock indicator on the hitch handle ensures that hookup is complete and secure before you can lock your trailer to your hitch.

Elite Series Slider

Elite Series Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Unrestricted Truck Bed Access

Complete Truck-Bed Access

Once your Elite Series fifth-wheel hitch is installed, you can easily remove it for complete access to your truck bed. The fifth-wheel head removes with just two pins and is easy to lift. Then you can unlock and disengage the roller base from the Power Puck rail mounting system and remove it as well. All that you will be left with is four small cavities that sit flush in your truck-bed floor - no rails, no bolts.

90 Degree Wiring Harness

Simple Wiring

The included 90-degree wiring harness makes attaching your trailer to your tow vehicle a snap. With a 9' lead that can easily reach your truck bed and a 90-degree angled head that fits into tight spaces, this uniquely designed wiring harness is perfect not only for your new fifth-wheel hitch, but for gooseneck hitches as well. Simply tee the harness into your vehicle's factory-installed 7-way trailer connector, which is mounted under the bumper of your truck. The 7-way connector on this harness then mounts in the wheel well, right next to your hitch, for quick, easy hookup.

Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel - Sliding Fifth Wheel - RP30144 Review

Today we're going to review part number RP30144 and this is Reese Elite series pre-assembled 5th wheel hitch with the slider and a wiring harness and an 18000 pound weight capacity. Now, this is a custom fit part it is designed to fit the Ford F250 and F350 super duty trucks that have the 6 3/4 foot bed and the factory rail kit starting in the year 2011. Now, this comes with the forged single piece self-latching jaw right here, which will wrap around the kingpin and this does ensure a proper connection. This type of design will offer superior jaw to kingpin contact. It gives you maximum security and minimum rattle. The included slider that it is on insurers clearance which is required for your short bed truck to turn safely at slow speeds and this will prevent the trailer from hitting the cab of your pickup during those sharp slow speed turns. It does slide very smoothly on the rounded rails which is a design improvement over the older models and this will inhibit binding with the angled steel rollers.

Operates evenly when the tow vehicles are not in a straight line, functions up to a bout a 45 angle, and again this is designed for use on trucks with beds shorter than 8 feet. If you notice on the head itself has a 9 inch wide funnel which is larger than the traditional 6 inch wide funnel. Because of that it will give you a larger area for guiding that kingpin right into the hitch. It has an extendable length lockable handle and to this handle has a pin and clip on it. You can actually use it with a padlock if you like for extra security. Padlocks we do sell separately on our website.

There's a little silver tab here that's showing, this is a kingpin indicator. This will keep the hitch from locking until your connection is secure. Once your kingpin is in here and pushing that indicator out so you can see it and it will allow you to drop the pin or the lock through there to lock it into place. I'm going to show you that in a minute. This does require the elite series custom under bed rail kits. We do sell those separately on our website if you go to our fifth guide and put in your year and model vehicle it'll show you what can't you need and it will also fit the Ford factory rail kit.

This will allow inhibited use of your truck bed when the hitch is removed so when you take it out the rails are all under the bed so you have full access to your truck bed. It does use the quarter turn quick lock puck system to allowed easy mounting and removal of the hitch. Basically there's tabs on each side and if you just remove the clip right here, once you take that clip off, you will see that these handles rotate out a quarter of a turn or 90. When you do that it rotates those tabs and you do the same over there it will rotate those tabs and not will allow you to drop this right into the four pucks that are in your truck bed. Once they're dropped in you just turn this and it will rotate those tabs to lock it into place and then you put your pin and clip in to hold it into place. When you go to remove it, all you have to do is remove your pin and clip, open the handles on each side, and that will allow you to pick it out of the truck bed and give you full access on your truck bed. Will go ahead and close these.

Go ahead and put the pin through there. It does have a very wide footprint. It gives you increased stability. That head on it is a four-way pivot head, improves efficiency, gives you a faster easier hook up even on unlevel ground, and has a 4 side to side pivot. It does give you a 2 inch height adjustment. The hitch height is critical because when you go to tow you want to make sure your trailer hooked up to your truck is as level as possible and your hitch height is measured from your truck bed to the top of the hitch head. This can be adjusted 2 inches from anywhere from 16 inches hitch height to 18 inches. When you bolt this cross member to your slider legs there's 3 rows of holes. Depending on where you bolt it to will give you that range in height adjustment. This comes just like this, the fully assembled unit. Saves you about an hour of assembly time. The finish on it is a sturdy black powder coat steel. Its corrosion resistant. It does come with this nice wiring harness to give you a 7 way in your truck bed. It has about a 9 foot lead. You just make your connections to your 7 way that's at the back of your vehicle, run this wire up, put this in the side of your truck bed, and you have access to a 7 way right in your truck bed. Make it easy hookup for your fifth wheel. Specs on this, the gross towing weight is 18,000 pounds and you got to remember the capacity will be limited to the rail kit that's on your vehicle. The vertical load limit or pin weight capacity is 4500 pounds. I'd mentioned the hitch height adjustment is 16 inches to 18 inches and the amount of slider travel is 10 inches front to back so you can move this 10 inches towards the tailgate of your truck to give you more clearance. I do want to show you a couple features, locking the kingpin and and moving the slider. Basically right now it has the pin and clip in it, you can see the kingpin and the cattery is showing, it's the silver tab right there that you can see from the truck cab. We'll just pop off the clip, just like that, pull out the pin, you can hear the indicator go back into place because there's no kingpin in there, and then what you do is just pull open your handle. When you pull it out, and it will just rotate it towards the tailgate you can see that it will lock it into place. Just to give you an idea, here's a kingpin, this is what kingpin would look like on your fifth wheel trailer. This is on the pin box so when you're backing in the kingpin will be sliding right in here. It'll push up against that jaw and you can see when it gets in far enough it will wrap completely around there. As I had mentioned, that kingpin indicator is showing and the whole is open so that means it's all installed properly. You just take your pen and drop it through there. Again, if you want to use a padlock, we do sell those separately for extra security. With the pin in there then I'll just go ahead and clip it. That holds it already into place. To move the slider, basically what you do is there is a pin over here that you'll just pull out. That keeps it locked into place so you'll just pull that pin out and then you'll be able to right now being all the way towards the cab that's showing in the towing locked position. There's color coding on the side here that it's green this way which means it's locked in towing, there's green this way which means it's locked maneuvering, and then there's all red up here. When it's straight up, when your handle is straight up, that means it's in the unlocked position. Right now you're in the towing lock if you move this handle straight up you can see how that slider will move then. Show you how it moves a little bit. It's hard to move it without it attached to the truck. Then it'll go to the maneuvering position and when it gets to the maneuvering position it will go and lock into place and then it won't be going anywhere. You move 10 inches and then when you're ready to get back on the highway pull it into the unlock and when you back up into the towing position it'll go and lock right into the towing position. Once you're locked in, then you take your pin and slide it back through there into place just like that, and it'll keep it locked into position so that handle won't move. That should do it for the review on part number RP30144 the Reese Elite series preassembled fifth wheel hitch with the slider and the wiring harness and in 18,000 pound weight capacity.

Very happy with the quality of this Reese hitch. Not only does it look good but it appears to be one of the best built 5th wheel hitches I have seen. Can't wait to get my 2020 F350 short bed pickup and try out this hitch. 732329

I've now towed a few thousand miles with this fifth wheel hitch, and am very satisfied with it. The sliding mechanism works well, to get extra clearance between truck & trailer. I also like the fact that the fifth wheel pad itself can be easily detached from the rest of the frame, because that makes it possible for one person (me) to remove it in two pieces. 671168

Awesome!! Quick shipping!! Fit right in my Ford with the factory system in the bed. Easy to install. Preassembled. Works great!! Takes a little time to adjust properly the first time but once it's adjusted it takes 2 min's to put it in truck or take it out. It' worth the cost!!! 359926

5th Wheel hitch makes towing easy. The trailer I bought would turn without the slider but I can slide the hitch back and maneuver the trailer in very tight quarters. Hitch was too heavy for me to lift but I use my engine hoist to lift hitch in or out all by myself with ease. I made a cart that rolls into the garage when not in use. 337372

2014 Ford F-250 Super Duty

My entire experience with etrailer.com was excellent. I spent numerous hours researching the hitch and tonneau cover set up I wanted for my 2014 Ford F250. The majority of my time was on the etrailer.com website reviewing Q&A, installation guidance and videos, and expert advise. I chose the Reese Elite Series 5th wheel hitch and the BakFlip F1 tonneau cover. Both products arrived within 10 business days. Installation was as easy and straightforward as expected. The BakFlip F1 really dresses up my F250 and the BakFlip technology makes it very easy to use and gives me full access to my truck bed as needed. The Reese hitch has performed flawlessly. 132420

Review from a similar Reese Elite Series in Fifth Wheel

Wanted to leave a message about all my experiences with etrailer. I purchased a new Ford F-350 Super Duty in August and wanted a lot of aftermarket items for it. I accidentally found etrailer on the internet while searching. They have everything I was looking for. Their pricing was very competitive with free shipping on a lot of items. The last item purchased was a Reese gooseneck ball and safety chain hookup. It’s a great item, very easy to install and shipped the next day. I’m very pleased with etrailer. 571867

Excellent hitch works perfectly pulls great the only thing I can tell you is don't let the locking pin dangle when not in use because it will beat the pint off the side of the hitch. this isn't the hitches fault its my fault 571155

Great hitch. Very heavy and sturdy. Fits my 2016 F350 with factory puck system like a glove. Very easy drop into pucks and lock into place. The hitch separates into two pieces to make it able to be installed or removed by one person, but two are better. We tow a 16,00 pound 5th wheel with this hitch. 539826

Review from a similar Reese Elite Series in Fifth Wheel

Item was received well packaged. All parts were received as expected. I wish I would have taken pictures of box when it was received or as I installed it on my 2015 F250 but rest assured it fit into my Ford with the 5th wheel prep package quite easily. Directions were adequate. My only issue was I did not know if the pre-asembly of the base was torqued correctly. There was no mention of it in the packaging and I do not own a torque wrench so it would have been comforting to know that it was done properly before shipment. However it appeared to be okay and I had no issues towing my 5th wheel the 15 miles from the dealership to my home. Also there is no mention prior to ordering that you need lithium grease to properly lube the moving parts. Make sure you have on hand prior to assembly. Overall, excellent product and I am definitely please with it and highly recommend it. 203214

I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase one year ago of this hitch. We have towed our 32 crusader across the country and back via different routes with no issues. I have read where others find it heavy to lift in and out of the truck bed. I would too except I remove the hitch plate to lighten the load so that I am lifting two relatively lite pieces instead of one heavy piece. We take the 5th wheel out on the road about every two months so I am happy with how I can separate the two in order to lift them in or out of the truck bed.Extremely easy to install, less than 5 minutes. I am totally satisfied with this product.

Review from a similar Reese Elite Series in Fifth Wheel

My Reese Elite 5th wheel hitch arrived UPS. 143lbs and used a hand dolly to take off the truck and wheel to my garage. Came packaged ok. Pre-assembled and everything was included. Read the Manual, which for older people helps, showing lube and parts, install info etc...referring back to the manual/instructions. Used a wooden table(same height as my tailgate) to wheel it right up to the gate and slid the hitch on a piece of cardboard(from the box) into the position of the puck system. Moving the base first then the hitch plate next. The hitch install was simple and easy. Did not need any help. I did call customer service and made a slight 1/4 turn adjustment to two legs for a tighter fit. There again referring to the manual/instructions provided with the hitch. Very pleased with the hitch over all. It served its purpose and I believe will give us many years of service. We pull a 5th wheel gvwr of 11769lbs and completed over 1200 miles of safe towing. Pleased with my purchase. Thank you. 159385

Review from a similar Reese Elite Series in Fifth Wheel

I have a 2016 Ford F250. My truck didn't come installed with any hitch equipment other than the stock bumper hitch. I insulted Reese Elite Series rails under the bed and have pulled my 5th wheel just fine since. Recently, I purchased a new 5th wheel trailer and the dealer tossed in an Andersen Ultimate Hitch 2. The only problem is that my truck hasn't been equipped with a gooseneck hitch. This product solves that problem, integrates with my current setup, and is incredibly easy to install. Can't wait to test it out on the road this weekend. Here's my current setup: 2016 Ford F250 Air Lift Air Ride System with compressor Reese Elite Rails with Gooseneck Hitch Kit 448210

So far so good. The only problem was finding safety chain hooks that fit the safety hookups. I gave up and used heavy duty d-rings instead.

Review from a similar Reese Elite Series in Fifth Wheel

I recently purchased a 2016 Ram 3500 with 5th wheel tow package already present on truck. I wanted an additional goose neck product and looked at various suppliers online and found etrailer products offered for sale. After to speaking with Heather who answered all my questions as well as reviewed feedback from customers I chose to go with the Reese gooseneck kit. I received the product within the shipping date provided to me and I went out to install it. It took me all of 3 mins to install with no issues. I did my best to remove, shake and couldn't get them to budge. It took me a total of 5 mins to remove the parts and storing them back under the rear seat. The parts fit perfect, look great as well as we're the cheapest price I could find. Their online video is all the install instructions you need! I will definitely use etrailer in the future. Thanks Heather! 296158

  • 2008 Ford F-350 Has Underbed 5th Wheel Installation Kit But Holes Do Not Line Up
The OEM prep package for 5th wheel trailers did not start until the 2011 model year for the F-series Super Duty trucks. It sounds like your 2008 Ford F-350 has an aftermarket underbed installation kit like # RP30073. But it is either not this exact installation kit, or something happened to it and it is no longer square, because the 4 pucks should be lined up. Since they are not adapter # RP30156 will not fit. If you can email me some pictures of the 4 holes I might be able to figure...

  • Best Fifth Wheel Hitch for a 2015 Ford F350 Short Bed with Hitch Prep
The Reese Elite Series Pre-Assembled 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider # RP30144 that you referenced would be the perfect hitch for you to use on your 2015 Ford F350 crew cab short bed. Since you have a short bed you would need a slider to make tight turns, this hitch has a slider. This hitch also has 18,000 lbs of capacity which would be more than enough for your trailer. Although your trailer claims to have a nose that will allow for tight turns without a slider I would still recommend...

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2012 Ford F250 w/ Factory Fifth Wheel Prep Kit
Because your F250 is not a long bed model, I would highly recommend you go with the Reese Elite Series w/ Slider, part # RP30144. Although the current trailer you are looking at has a v-type nose on it that might work okay with the # RP30142 and have proper clearance for making turns, having the sliding hitch would allow you more flexibility in the event you switched to a different fifth wheel in the future. Both the Reese Elite Series w/ Slider # RP30144 and the non-sliding model,...

  • Demco Hijacker Fifth Wheel Hitch or Reese Elite Slider Recommendation for 2010 GMC Sierra Short Bed
I have a great solution for you. Since you are looking for an under-bed rail system that will leave your truck bed empty when the hitch is removed I would recommend you go with the Demco Hijacker hitch part # DM8550022 and underbed rail kit part # DM8551004. Since you have a short bed you will need a hitch that has a slider so that you can have enough clearance to make tight turns. The Reese Elite Slider hitch part # RP30144 and Rail Kit part # RP30061 is a GREAT option, but this setup...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch For 2014 F-250 Pickup Truck With Short Bed
For your 2014 Ford F-250 with the short bed, the Reese Elite Series Hitch, part # RP30144 does have an installation kit that will work for your truck. I recommend the Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit, part # RP30126. We do have a few options that can work for you as well. The custom installation kit, part # RP50026-58, is a fit for your truck, and will work with several fifth wheel hitches we carry. This installation kit will work with Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Valley, Husky,...

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch For 2007 Classic Series Sierra With Reese RP30061 Installed
Since you have the Reese Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit, part # RP30061 installed in your Sierra Classic I recommend staying with the Reese name for a fifth wheel hitch. Although another manufacturers product may fit your puck system, they have not been tested together so there are no guarantees. The fifth wheel hitch I recommend is the Reese Elite Series Pre-Assembled 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider and Wiring Harness, part # RP30144. This is an 18K hitch and comes with a 7-way trailer...

  • Recommendation for a 5th Wheel Hitch with a 2010 Ford F-250 Short-Bed
Your decision should be made on how you plan to use your truck. For me, I would choose the Elite Series 18K Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch, item # RP30144. My reasons for choosing this hitch are that I own a farm and use the bed of the truck for many other tasks. I also own a gooseneck trailer that would easily be towed using the Elite Series Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, item # RP30845, and would still leave the bed open when not needed. You will need the, # RP30073, installation kit with this hitch. If...

  • Slider Hitch Recommendation for a Ford Hitch Prep Package in Super Duty Truck
If you have a newer Ford truck that has the underbed hitch prep package with the 4 pucks and are looking for a fifth wheel hitch with a slider to fit it you would want the Reese Elite Series Pre-Assembled 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider # RP30144. This would fit your hitch prep package without the use of a slider and comes with a slider that can travel 10 inches.

  • Automatic Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a 2016 Ram 3500 Short Bed
I have a solution for you, but there isn't a way to install the Reese Elite Slider hitch part # RP30144 in the bed of a 2016 Ram. Ram uses their own hitch prep package that is similar to the Elite series hitches but since the pucks are spaced so far apart there is no way to get a standard Elite hitch to fit. I have a great towing solution for you though. I would recommend getting the 2016 Ram without the hitch prep package so that you can install the Demco Hijacker Auto Slide hitch part...

The Reese Elite Series Pre-Assembled 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider and Wiring Harness, part # RP30144, and Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit, part # RP30074, would be a very good choice for your 2011 Dodge Ram. On trucks with beds shorter than 8 feet, it is recommended that you install a fifth wheel hitch that has a slider in it to give you additional clearance during tight cornering. I attached an FAQ article below on fifth wheel hitches that you should find informative. I...

  • Reese Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Option for 2016 Ford F-350 with Factory Rail System
The only Reese 5th Wheel Hitch that fits directly into the factory rail kit on your 2016 Ford F-350 is the Reese Elite Series # RP30144 which is rated for 18,000 lbs. If the Reese hitch that you currently have is the Elite Series # RP30871, then the only thing that is the same on these 2 hitches is the head. It would be easier to buy the new hitch and sell your old hitch as one piece than to try to piece together the sliding version. If your trailer weighs no more than 18,000 lbs and...

To access the bolts that hold the center section to the slider assembly and adjust the hitch height, you'll need to remove the slider assembly covers by removing the 4 machine screws shown in the photo I've provided for you.

I’ve included the inst. and on page 3 it talks about lubrication points it’s going to work best if lubricated especially at the linkage pins. This area is not so obvious to the customer as it is inside the hitch head so I’ve included a few photos. Also lubrication...

You do not want to install a fixed hitch in your truck unless you have a Sidewinder replacement pin box on your trailer. Please have a look at the linked article for more. Sidewinders are made to replace specific pin box brands and models so you'll need to check for availability of one to replace your trailer pin box by using the included chart. Let's say your trailer has a Lippert...

The two 5th wheel hitches that I recommend using on your 2017 Ford F-350 are both made by Reese. The first one, part # RP30144, is rated for 18,000 lbs and is an excellent manual 5th wheel hitch. This hitch will fit right into your factory tow package so that you don't have to use an adapter, and it also comes with a 7-Way wiring harness that you can install in the bed of your truck if you don't have that feature already..
