Video Transcript for Pro Series Fifth Wheel Hitch Review

Today we are going to show you the Pro Series line of fifth wheel hitches. The Pro Series family of fifth wheels is a great way for people new to the fifth wheeling hobby to get into it without investing a whole lot of money. They are also a nice fit for a budget conscious fifth wheel tower. The Pro Series fifth wheel hitches are available in 15000 15K, 16000 16K, and 20000 20K pound capacities. All of these hitches include the basic functions and features needed to properly tow a fifth wheel trailer. 00:26

First up is the Pro Series 15K pound head. This head features a four-way pivot both front to back and the top plate goes side to side. The side to side pivot allows a full five degrees for easy hook up even on uneven ground. The 15K Pro Series also uses a less expensive slide bar stop to lock the king pin into the head. Next we have the Pro Series 16K head. This head is a fully floating head that provides plenty of movement side to side and front to back. This will help the fifth wheel track easier when traveling and it also makes hook up very easy. It features the same slide bar latching mechanism as the 15K but it features a fully floating head. The fully floating head will allow the fifth wheel to track a little bit easier, make hooking and unhooking the trailer easy. 01:16

Finally we have the Pro Series 20K pound head. Again the head is fully floating but this time with the increased capacity we also use double locking jaws. The double locking jaws provide more contact around the king pin and will help reduce noise. It also features a lockable latch. The latch allows you to secure and lock the jaws to prevent them from coming open when traveling. The Pro Series family of fifth wheel hitches uses traditional above bed fifth wheel rails to attach to the truck. The height of the head is adjustable from 13 to 17 inches. This includes a three year warranty. There is also a Pro Series slider kit available part number RP30092. The Pro Series family of hitches includes a 15K pound hitch part number PS30093, a 16K pound hitch part number PS30089, as well as a 20K pound hitch part number PS30119.

I just bought a 2017 Ram 3500 long bed dually, With the help of my father in law, we were able to install the hitch and the platform for the ram in less then one hour. We both watch all the videos on installation on etrailer.co, the videos were a great help and made installation Go faster and easier. George J. Keep me informed on the progress of shipping my order. This seems to be a really nice hitch, well made with quality welding and heavy steel. IT'S HEAVY! Weighs much more than the 16,000lb hitch it's replacing that was marginal for my 5th wheel. It will be a month or so before I get to actually tow my 40' RV with it but expect no issues what so ever. 301143

This hitch is good quality, I installed it in a 2014 Ram 3500 Dually with the picture frame. It is a little work getting it all together but once it is all in it is a clean nice looking setup. It would be nice if Reese would make an all in one setup for the new Ram HD trucks that is the same height but easier to remove and install when needed. 119786

Do you have a question about this Fifth Wheel?

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 2016 Ram 3500 with Factory Installed 5th Wheel Prep Package
  • There are actually several hitches available now that fit directly into the 2016 Ram factory OEM prep package. There is also an option to use a special adapter if you already have a hitch or if you plan on getting a slider hitch (for short bed trucks). The hitches that fit directly are: # BWRVK3600, rated for 25K # C16545-16021, rated for 24K # C16530-16021, rated for 20K # C16520-16021, rated for 16K, dual jaw # C16515-16021, rated for 16K, slide-bar jaw You can also use adapter...

  • How to Reduce Eliminate Fifth Wheel Trailer Chucking
  • What you're referring to is called chucking, the unwanted fore and aft movement of the trailer. If the fifth wheel hitch you're using has a slide bar jaw or a two piece jaw that's worn and has lots of play in it, it would cause the chucking you're experiencing. Even though the king pin might be held by the hitch jaws so it's in no danger of popping out. If the jaws allow any play at all the king pin's rattling around in the hitch jaws will be transferred to the vehicle, which isn't very...

  • Are Tongue Weight, Hitch Weight and Pin Weight The Same Thing For a Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • Tongue weight and hitch weight describe the same thing, the amount of downward force applied to the hitch. For a fifth wheel hitch, it's usually called pin weight. A 3/4 or 1 ton truck with a long bed would be the preferred vehicle for towing a fifth wheel trailer. The vehicle will have plenty of power and a suspension designed for heavy loads. The long bed will ensure plenty of clearance between the front of the fifth wheel and the rear of the truck cab. It sounds like you've done...

  • Which is Better the Reese # RP30081 20K 5th Wheel Hitch or the Pro Series # PS30119 Hitch
  • The Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, item # RP30081, has a longer warranty and added features like a larger 9 inch wide funnel and and higher height adjustment for faster, easier hookup, and a single piece self latching jaw to ensure proper connection to the trailers king pin. Other than that, the hitches are very similar, and they are both capable of towing up to 20,000 pounds if your Silverado is rated for a trailer that large. I would go with the Reese, # RP30081, hitch for the added...

  • Can Chucking, Forward and Back Movement of 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, be Reduced or Stopped
  • On any 5th wheel trailer hitch you are going to get some chucking, forward and back movement, during starts and stops. Its the nature of the beast. On some hitches the movement is more pronounced because of how the hitch is designed. On hitches that pivot on a large center bolt you are going to see, feel, or hear more movement. The Reese 16K hitches mostly use a dual jaw system. The regular dual jaw is secure but can allow for some movement as well. This is normal. Adding an air ride...

  • 5th Wheel or Gooseneck Hitch Recommendation for a 2012 Toyota Tundra Short Bed
  • You can install a fifth wheel or gooseneck hitch in your 2012 Toyota Tundra, however, there are a few things that we will need to take into consideration before selecting the appropriate hitch for your truck. I assume by Maxcab, you are referring to the CrewMax cab. The CrewMax cab models have a 5-1/2 ft bed. If your truck bed length is 5-1/2 ft, then, to tow a fifth wheel trailer, you will need a few different items such as the Reese Semi-Custom Install Kit, # RP30035-309, a fixed...

  • Possible Causes For 5th Wheel Trailer Chucking and Movement During Starts and Stops
  • It sounds like there is one of two possible issues or a combination of issues. First, make sure that you are not high hitched. When connecting the king pin to the hitch, first make sure the head of the hitch is tilted towards the trailer. Then, make sure the bottom of the pin box (not the kingpin) on the trailer is 1/2 inch to 1 inch below the hitch skid plate. The other issue could be that if your king pin is worn significantly enough, there will be too much play and the trailer will...

  • Comparing and Contrasting Pro Series 20k 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # PS30119 and # RP30081
  • Both the Pro Series 5th Wheel trailer hitch, # PS30119 and # RP30081, would be a good choice for a 20,000 pound capacity trailer hitch. The double jaw on the PS30119 works well to completely surround the king pin and reduce play at the connection. The jaw on the RP30081 is not like some 5th wheel trailer hitches that use a slide bar. A slide bar will allow more play and movement. The jaw on the RP30081 completely wraps around the king pin for a stronger connection and less movement....

  • Compatibility of Reese Revolution Pin Box with Pro Series Fifth Wheel Hitch
  • The Pro Series, part # PS30119, is indeed compatible with the Reese Revolution (OEM version of the Sidewinder). Typically, a non-sliding fifth wheel hitch like the # PS30119 is recommended for use with a Revolution, but if you use a sliding hitch, make sure that the hitch remains in the forward towing position at all times. Sliding the hitch rearward will place too much of the fifth wheel pin weight behind the rear axle. This can lighten the front truck axle to the point where steering...

We do not carry any automatic sliding hitches at this time, only manual slide hitches, but we often find that sliding fifth wheel hitches do not always cut it when it comes to the Ram trucks with the Megacab due to the bed and cab size. Typically, a Sidewinder pin box and a fixed fifth wheel hitch is required to safely make a 90 degree turn with these trucks, especially if the trailer does not have the...

Some of the higher capacity Pro Series Hitches, like # PS30119, feature a double jaw system. Others have a slide bar. However, if you look in your owner's manual, you should be able to confirm your towing capacity. For an economical 20K hitch you can use # PS30119 for a long bed or # PS30121 slider for a short bed truck. For the tires you should use what is recommended by the trailer manufacturer.
