Each Husky Silver Series fifth-wheel trailer hitch has been thoroughly tested to meet SAE J2638 standards. These criteria - set forth by the Society of Automotive Engineers - are specifically designed to ensure the highest level of performance for fifth-wheel towing.

Single-Piece, Wraparound Jaw

Wraparound Jaw on Husky 26K W Fifth Wheel Hitch

The wraparound, single-piece jaw on this heavy-duty fifth-wheel trailer hitch offers excellent security and stability by surrounding your trailer's king pin. The increased jaw-to-king-pin contact not only creates a stronger connection than you would find with a slide-bar jaw, but it also helps to reduce the rattle and jarring movement that is often experienced when towing a fifth-wheel trailer.

Adjustable Height

Adjustable Height of Husky 26K W Fifth Wheel Hitch

The height of the Silver Series 26K W fifth-wheel trailer hitch can be adjusted by simply moving the crossbeam up or down on the slider base and bolting it into the desired position.

King Pin Safety Features

The jaw of the Husky Silver Series 26K W fifth-wheel trailer hitch will only close when your trailer's king pin is positioned correctly inside the hitch. A trigger plate sits just beneath the jaw. When this plate is pressed by the king pin, the jaw will fully close. Because the king pin must press the trigger plate on the underside of the jaw for the jaw to close, high pinning cannot occur.

King pin safety indicator on Husky Silver Series fifth-wheel trailer hitch

A color-coded king pin indicator is built into the handle so that you can easily determine if the jaw is open or closed. Anytime that you can see the red tab at the rear of the hitch, the jaw is open. When no red can be seen, you can rest assured that you are properly hitched. Further secure your trailer to your hitch by inserting a padlock (sold separately) through the lockable tab on the handle.

Husky 10 Composite Glider

Designed for use with short-bed pickups, this slider (or glider) helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a glider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Glides on Composite Materials

Composite Bars on Husky 10-26K Glider

Durable, corrosion-resistant composite bars are attached to the top of the squared metal rails of the Husky 10 Composite slider. A similar composite material is built into the body of the slider. These composite materials allow the slider to glide smoothly along the rails without any of the grinding that often occurs with metal-on-metal contact. The result is a slider system that wears less and operates more quietly than models with rollers and metal rails.

Non-Binding Latch Mechanism

Binding occurs when tension builds up between the fifth-wheel hitch and the slider. This happens most often when your truck and trailer are either somewhat out of line with one another or when they are on uneven ground. When a slider gets bound up, you typically have to fight the tension by jerking the handle or jockeying your truck back and forth, both of which can be frustrating and ultimately futile.

Compression Cylinder and Pivot Stops on Husky 10-26K Glider

The Husky 10 Composite glider is built with a latch mechanism that inhibits binding by preventing an unmanageable buildup of pressure. It uses a compression cylinder and pivot stops instead of pins or traditional latches, which tend to result in binding. To release the slider, simply move the handle into the unlocked position and drive your truck forward or back to position your trailer for turning. The compression cylinder is responsible for the load; it compresses to absorb any pressure buildup. When you move your truck, the cylinder relaxes and decompresses to release some of that pressure. Once the binding pressure is released, the pivot stops are able to move, allowing the slider to glide into the proper position. No more jockeying your truck back and forth or fighting with a stuck handle.

Video Transcript for Husky Fifth Wheel - Sliding Fifth Wheel - HT31318-32042 Review

Today were going to review part number HT31318-32042. This is the Husky Silver Series fifth wheel hitch with the slider legs, and this hitch has a 26,000 pound capacity. This fifth wheel hitch with the slider mounts will mount in your truck bed so you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. The slider will allow for required clearance for your short bed pickup to turn safely at slow speeds, and it prevents the trailer from hitting the cab of your pick-up during sharp slow speed turns. It also has the compression cylinder here, and what that does is it will inhibit binding, and then the composite rails make for a smooth operation. The single piece wrap-around jaw, which is right here, will wrap around the kingpin to provide excellent jaw to kingpin contact, and it gives you maximum security with less rattle and chucking.

This hitch has supreme adjustability to match your application. You can get perfect positioning over the axle, and you can achieve required height with the three and a half inches of vertical height adjustment here on the side. The fully articulating head, as you can see, goes side to side and then front to back. Whats nice about that it makes for a quick and simple hookup, even on unlevel ground so the head will move in unison with the trailer during travel which will help minimize jarring. Right here on the inside, under the jaw there is a trigger plate which will ensure proper hookup.

The jaw can only close when the kingpin is securely inside of the hitch. It has an easy to access lockable handle that sits close to the truck cab, far from the pin box. It has a kingpin indicator on the back of the head, which Ill show you shortly. It will let you know when youre safely hooked up. On your handle, right here on the tab here, right now theres just a pin and clip, but you can also use a padlock which is sold separately which will offer additional security to lock your handle to keep the jaw around the kingpin.

This hitch has a black powder coat finish, and a lot of the fasteners on it are of yellow zinc finish, which will help resist corrosion. The base rails for this hitch are sold separately. The base rails and the installation kit are sold separately. This hitch will work with the industry standard above-bed rails made by Curt, Draw Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Pro Series, Reese and Valley. We just want to give you a few specs on this.

Again, the gross towing weight capacity is 26,000 pounds. The vertical load limit is 6500 pounds. Im going to show you the hitch height adjustment that I had mentioned earlier. Im just going to rotate this to the side to give you an idea. If you look right here at the side, on the cross-member theres actually four different sets of holes at different levels, and that will give you your vertical hitch height adjustment above your truck bed. If you put it on the lowest one that would be 15 inches above your truck bed. If you put it all the way down to the bottom one, it would be 19 inches. The slider legs will actually move 10 inches front to back. This hitch does come with a 10 year warranty. Just to go over a few other features on this, lets spin it around and get a good overall view here. Well show you how the single jaw will work. Basically what you want to do is remove the pin and clip that lock the handle in, so we just pull out the handle and theres a little notch that this would latch on to, to keep it fully open. Right now it is in the fully open position. What will happen let me show you the back so you can see the indicators as I show you the operation of the wrap around jaw. If you look here at the back, which is what you will see from the rear of your truck, we have it all the way pulled out and as you can see, the red tab is visible which indicates the jaw is fully open. Also there is a pop out indicator right here. It might be a little hard to see right now, but this indicator is actually flush with the head so that indicates the jaw is open. When you release this that will actually put the jaw in the ready to load position so when the kingpin comes in and pushes in there, it will trigger the trigger plate right here. What youll see happen is when that kingpin is fully seated the handle will slide completely over and cover that red tab. If its covered, thats means the jaw is fully seated. What youll also notice is this indicator that I mentioned, it will pop out, so it will be raised above the hitch head to indicate also that your jaw is installed correctly. Also on the slider, basically it has a control right here. Right now it is in the towing position. When its in the towing position well swing it around and show you how the slider operates. Right here, if we remove the pin and clip off the handle if youll see right here, if I pull up on this and move it to the towing position, which is all the way down and lock it into place what happens is this nonbinding latch mechanism, this flipper plate here, will raise up and actually unlock the composite rails. What will happen is this slider is most often used on trucks with six foot beds, so this will help eliminate clearance problems during slow speed turns. When youre towing with a fifth wheel trailer your hitch must be situated on the cab side of the trucks rear axle. However at slow speeds you can use this glider to slide the fifth wheel hitch and the trailer toward your trucks tailgate and past the rear axle. This will create enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to promote less restricted turning. The rails are made of a composite material that are specifically designed to resist both wear and corrosion. The top rail will actually glide smoothly over the bottom rail without any grinding that often occurs with a metal to metal contact. The result is this slider system wears less and operates more quietly than the competition. Another nice feature on the slider is let me turn it a little bit so you can see the compression cylinder were going to talk about right over here binding, which happens a lot on slider hitches, will occur when tension builds up between the fifth wheel hitch and the slider. This happens when your truck or your trailer is somewhat out of line with one another, or when they are on uneven ground, when the slider gets bound up you typically have to fight the tension by jerking the handle or jocking your truck back and forth, both of which can be pretty frustrating. On this glider, its built with a latch mechanism right here that will inhibit binding by preventing an unmanageable buildup of pressure. It uses this compression spring over here, this cylinder, and this flipper instead of pins or traditional latches which tend to result in binding. To release the slider, right now its in the locked position so what will happen is to release it you just simply move the handle into the unlocked, or maneuvering position, and then you move your truck forward or back to position the trailer for turning. The cylinder right here if I can get you to see it a little better, its back here right in here, this whole cylinder is responsible for the load, so it will compress to absorb any pressure buildup. When you move your truck this cylinder right here will relax and decompress to release some of that pressure. Once the bindings released, this flipper is able to move freely up or down into the next lock position, ensuring proper controlled movement, so theres not more jocking your truck back and forth or fighting with a stuck handle. Just like that this will go down and the little cutouts will lock the rails from moving, so it is in the towing, or locked position. This does include the four pins and clips that will attach the legs to the rails. One last feature, with the lock through here on the handle One last feature I want to show you is the large pivot bolt and castle nut right here that actually holds this articulating head to the cross member. It actually has right here on the end theres a Zurk fitting which you can put a grease gun to and actually fill grease on the inside which will help lubricate this articulating head and keep it moving freely. Now we just want to turn it around I mentioned the castle nut on the other end, just wanted to show you what that looks like. That can be tightened down eventually, over time, as the head might wear. You can actually tighten that down. Heres the castle nut right here with the pin and clip through it to lock it into place. That should do it for review on part number HT31318-32042.

product was just as I expected. E- trailer did a great job start to finish. UPS was, as expected, rough on the boxes. This caused a loss of a few pieces of hardware. ( I was able to replace the missing hardware at home depot) This was not a big deal just faster to go grab what I needed instead of contacting E-trailer. I would recommend E- Trailer to anyone and will use them myself as needed. 159546

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

I ordered a Husky silver series 5th wheel hitch with rails, and custom brackets, only to find out that the hitch was missing, a leg, crossmember, handle, and all hardware. Furthermore I paid extra money to have items shipped quickly, so I could pick up my new purchase. I am told, that even due to the fact there was a mistake made on your end, your company cannot overnight ship the rest of my items due to cost. I feel that is a poor excuse for a large company as yourself. I had already made phone contact to ensure all items were available prior to my order. I have been in contact with Carla, who has been nothing but nice and very helpful. I would appreciate it if you could please overnight my items that I should have receive monday the 4th, so I do not loose the trailer that me and my family are so happy to purchase due to not having my items in time. Thank you for your time. Kevin N 190815

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

Quiet and capable hitch. Two issues. 1- Husky issued a recall to have Loctite applied to three bolts in the head, free repair if a dealer is near you. 30 minute DIY if you have loctite red and a torque wrench on hand and no accomodating dealer. 2- I have had to tighten the castle nut on the center pin a few times over 800 miles, head will develop a clunk in the yoke moving fore and aft. Husky indicated this is not a concern and there is no upper torque limit on the nut, so just adjust tighter as needed to compress the yoke to the head and eliminate this movement. All said, far more comfortable drive than the Husky 16 KS it replaced. 576427

Thanks George for the note.My last hitch was the Husky slider,I had a ford short bed.I had it for 9 years and it worked great.I went to this husky hitch because I up graded my Ford to a 1 ton long box.The hitch works good, but I have one question maybe you can answer My last hitch did not have very much side to side movement The new one has a lot of movement.I know this is to let you back the truck in when you are on a bit of a grade. The problem is when you are not hauling the trailer and you go over a bump or around a corner the hitch will flop to the opposite side making a bang when it hits the base.I had to put pieces of leather to cut down the noise when it hits.It there anything I can tighten so it dose not flop from side to side so easily. Thanks Jim Bell 551750

Works fine, how often should I grease the pin that hold s the head to the main housing. It has a bolt with a grease nipple going through to back of housing with a large nut and locking pin to stop nut from coming off Thanks

According to the instructions, that I have attached for your reference, the grease zerk fitting that you are describing is to be checked periodically. The other moving parts are recommended to be checked every to 3 to 6 months. It would depend on how often you are using you hitch and it is left at your best judgement how often periodically applied to your situation. I would recommend at a minimum every 3-6 months if not more frequently. We do have a help article that provides a maintenance schedule for other trailer components that you might find useful.

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

Easy installation, easy to understand instructions and a simple locking system make this a good choice. I had the Husky 16kw, but replaced it with the 16ks. the Ks fit in my rails so the installation into my pick-up was a snap. I bought the Ks on sale for less that $300, a good deal in my opinion. I will see how it tows this weekend. 523774

Comments
Not as well as I had hoped. After the third tow, I could not dis-engage the slider bar and had to slowly force it open with a 3 pound sledge. Afterwards, I took the head piece off and looked at the mechanism the slide bar was a part of. Seeing no obvious damage, I lubricated all the parts and reinstalled the head gear. It worked great the first time, but I experienced the same problem after the second tow. I just went ahead and bought a new hitch, a 26k Husky etrailer because I bought a heaver 5th wheel. No problems so far with the new hitch. I bought the fully articulating hitch this go around, as I had never had a problem with the first hitch I bought from Husky etrailer which was the same, but only a 16K.

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

Received product on time. As stated by other customers, box was pretty damaged with a hole on one corner. Lots of tape was used by someone and parts were loose in the box but got all parts and more. Received lots of hardware, made me wonder if I should use all of them. The instructions were not very helpful. Good thing I was replacing another Husky hitch, so having it side by side was great. Reviews from another customer mentioned the side to side swaying of the head and that it can damage the truck rails. The silver Husky does have more movement than my old hitch which should help hooking and unhooking. I set the height same as my old hitch which is the second hole from the top but am wondering if I should go the max. Also, the lever for the slide is a problem. it is too small and cannot get any leverage on it to disengage the slide. even though I also receive a second handle, it is too long and interferes with the top jaw handle. I have not pulled my 5th wheel yet, but am second guessing my self that maybe I should have stayed with my old hitch. we'll see. Maybe this will help someone. I drive a 2010 F-250 HD with a camper shell most of the time. I use a cherry picker/shop crane to remove the camper and install the hitch and vice versa. it is a one man operation for now since am 73 years old. 499361

I chose the Husky because of the listed height of the hitch. Unfortunately it sits about 1.5" higher than advertised. I was however able to use it and it performed very well. As long as I have someone helping me to get it in and out of my truck (because its very heavy) I would have to say I'm not too disappointed. Also, the custom rail kit was a perfect fit. I'm very happy I went with that particular kit. 738394

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

We received our hitch on Thursday, exactly when E-trailer said it would come, completed installing it in three hours. The rails had been installed from a previous hitch. The instructions where pretty good until the last step, they stopped before installing the receiver plate, but by that time I was able to figure out what needed to be done. We have traveled over 1500 miles in the first week and so far have not had any problems. One thing that I have noticed, turning is much smoother with the pivoting plate then from our previous hitch which it did not have. Also, the trailer jumped a curve while making a tight turn and was not felt in the cab of the truck. 667167

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

We purchased this 26k Husky hitch for two reasons. First, we just went from a short bed truck to a 8ft bed and no longer needed our auto slider. Second, we are going to trade our 40ft fifth wheel toy hauler for a 43ft toy hauler and the 18k auto slider was not rated high enough. The Husky hitch was delivered on time and the packaging was excellent. No damage or lost parts from shipping. This Husky hitch is very heavy duty, extremely well designed and nice looking. The quality of workmanship is excellent. We are very happy with our choice. Dealing with etrailer.com was a pleasant experience. They were extremely easy to work with keeping us updated on the shipping process and the delivery date. We received it 4 days after we ordered it. I feel confident if any problems should develop, Husky and or etrailer.com will take care of it pronto. Happy campers! 613760

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

This Husky Fifth wheel hitch is very well built and performs well. We have it mounted in our 2016 Nissan Titan on the factory supplied goose neck adaptor. The quality of the paint finish and metal components are excellent. We have towed our 9000 GVW Fifth wheel about 10,000 km without any issues. My only comment is that it is very heavy--one person cannot easily lift it out of the truck even when broken down into the two components. 489155

Part # LC301459 fits the popular Lippert 1621 pin box, as does the grey cover # LC301460 and the white cover # LC301458.

  • How to Correct Side-to-Side Movement of Hitch Head on Husky 26K Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch
The Husky 26K 5th wheel slider hitch you referenced, part # HT31318-32042, features a fully-articulating hitch head that is supposed to pivot. As your trailer makes a turn, it will roll slightly from level. This means that the hitch head needs to follow that tilting motion. If the hitch head did not tip to the side when you turn all that stress would be transmitted to the trailer's king pin and to the jaws in the hitch. This hitch head does have a castle nut at its rear that secures...

  • Measuring for Clearance to Make Tight Turns when Towing 5th Wheel Trailer w/2015 Ram 3500 Short Bed
To determine if there will be enough clearance to make tight turns when towing a 5th wheel trailer there are some measurements needed. Once a hitch like the Husky hitch # HT31318-32042 is installed using installation kit # HT32221-686 it will be centered over the rear axle on your 2015 Ram 3500 6 foot bed. What you will do is measure from the center of the rear axle on the truck to the back of the cab and record the distance. Then add to that 10 inches for the travel of the slider hitch. Next...

  • Weight of Husky Silver Series 26K 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider Part # HT31318-32042
When combined, the head unit and the slider weigh a pretty hefty 258 lbs. To make things a bit more manageable, the head can be separated from the slider. When separated, the head weighs 133 lbs and the sliding portion weighs 125 lbs. Even when separated, the pieces are still pretty heavy. Unless you're pretty burly or had a double dose of Wheaties that morning, I'd recommend having a helper. Despite its heavy weight, the Husky # HT31318-32042 is a nice hitch. The single piece jaw wraps...

The best recommendation I can give you to determine if we have a 5th wheel hitch cover that will work on your Husky 26K 5th Wheel Hitch would be to first determine the dimensions of your hitch and then compare them to the dimensions of the Hitch Cover part # CA80116. This cover is a universal design that is designed to fit as many 5th wheel hitches as possible and measures 24" wide x 24" long x 18" tall.

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Pulls to the Right After Making Right Hand Turns
It is possible that the trailer is heavier on the one side causing the suspension components to wear unevenly. I recommend inspecting the suspension and look for signs of excessive wear such as egg-shaped holes, flat springs, broken parts, and anything out of the ordinary. When replacing suspension parts you should do both sides of the trailer at the same time so that they wear more evenly. Something that will help the suspension to last longer is to install some helper springs. We...

  • Why Cant Fifth Wheel Hitch Be Kept in Rear Most Position When Travelling
You can get around a parking lot with the Husky Silver Series 26K # HT31318-32042 in the rear most position but beyond that you have to have the hitch slid forward. Otherwise you end up with too much weight behind the rear axle of the truck which will unweight the front axle which greatly affects braking and handling performance. So long story short it's very dangerous to drive around at highway speeds with a slider hitch slid backwards.

  • How Much Movement to Expect with a Husky Silver Series 26K W Fifth-Wheel Hitch
There is going to be a slight bit of movement when using a sliding fifth-wheel hitch such as the Husky Silver Series 26K W, # HT31318-32042, because the king pin is going to move slightly inside the hitch (not the slider). The jaw - or jaws - on fifth-wheel hitches cannot fully enclose around the king pin because it needs to act as a pivot for your trailer. The Husky Silver Series does come with a single jaw that wraps around the trailer's king pin, which will help reduce movement....
