Each Husky Silver Series fifth-wheel trailer hitch has been thoroughly tested to meet SAE J2638 standards. These criteria - set forth by the Society of Automotive Engineers - are specifically designed to ensure the highest level of performance for fifth-wheel towing.

Maximum Adjustability

The Silver Series fifth-wheel trailer hitch offers maximum adjustability both up and down and front to back. Adjust the hitch height by simply moving the crossbeam up or down and bolting it into position. To ensure perfect placement of the hitch over your truck's rear axle, you can move the head and crossbeam along the uprights, front to rear. Proper placement of the hitch head will give you more cab clearance and a more stable ride.

Safety Feature

Safety Features of the Husky 16K S Fifth Wheel Hitch

Color-coded indicators are built into the hitch head so that you can easily determine if the jaw is open or closed. If red can be seen on the handle, the jaw is open. When no red can be seen and a green pin pops out of the side of the hitch, the jaw is closed.

Video Transcript for Review of Husky Fifth Wheel - Fixed Fifth Wheel - HT31313-31314

Today we're going to take a look at the Husky Silver Series 16K S 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with the Slide Bar Jaw.It has a 16,000 lb gross towing weight capacity. Now, this is a 5th-wheel hitch that will mount in your truck bed so that you can tow your 5th-wheel trailer. It uses a slide bar jaw to secure your king-pin in the hitch and it has open sides on the head here to allow for the king-pin to swing without hitting sides of the head. Now it is adjustable to match your application. You can achieve the correct hitch height with the four position vertical adjustment here on the cross member. Let me just turn this a little bit so you can see. Right here on the cross member, you can see there's four rows of holes and depending on where you put your bolts into the legs you have a range of 14" to 17" of hitch height adjustment.

That's measured from the truck bed to the top of the hitch head. So, you always want to tow your 5th Wheel as level as possible. So, this will give you a range of hitch height. It also offers and four-and-half adjustment on the uprights for proper hitch over axle placement. Basically, there's four holes on these legs so you can put this cross member either in the back two holes or the back holes up here.

There's four holes. It will give you a 2-1/8 inch of 4-1/2 adjustment also. Because you want to get perfect positioning over your axle by moving the hitch head front to back along the uprights. Now they also offer the side to side tilting plate right here. This will tilt side to side and then front to read pivoting head will help ease hookup. The other main feature on this is they do offer a color-coded safety indicator.

Basically, when the jaw is open it will show red on the handle shaft. And I just wanted to show you how that will happen. So, to open this to hook up you pull your handle in the upright position and then just pull it all the way out like that and it will lock in the open position. And you can see there's the red coloring on the handle shaft. When that is showing that means your jaw is open.

You're ready to hook up.Then when you go to hook up, let me just show you how that will happen. Here's an example of what a king-pin would be like on your 5th wheel. So, when that slides in when you're hooking up your 5th wheel it will push back on that lever and the slide bar will go all the way across to hold it into position. And again the red's gone. But the thing you'll notice then is when it's closed there's a green pin right back here that will pop out and then when that pops out that tells you you're hooked up correctly. There's no red on the handles. The green pin means you're all ready to go. So, just by looking at the color, either red on the handle means the jaws are open. The green pin will mean the jaws are closed and you're hooked up ready to go.Now, this does have a nice powder coat finish. It's a Husky Silver Powder Coat Finish and the Zinc Fasteners are all yellow zinc fasteners that help resist corrosion. Now, it does require base rails and an installation kit to install this in your vehicle and those items we do sell separately on our website. What I would recommend is to go to the website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle and it will show you the rails and installation kit you need to install this. Now this will work with the industry standard above-bed rails by Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Pro Series, Reese, and Valley.A few specs on this hitch. The gross towing weight capacity is 16,000 lbs. Vertical load limit is 4,000 lbs. We mentioned you have to hitch height adjustment of 14" to 17". Now, it does come with this nice instruction manual that will describe how to hook everything up and how it operates, and it even comes with the four pins and clips that allow you to pin your legs to the base rails in your vehicle. But that should do it for the review on the Husky Silver Series 16K S 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with the Slide Bar Jaw and the 16,000 lb gross towing weight capacity.

Easy installation, easy to understand instructions and a simple locking system make this a good choice. I had the Husky 16kw, but replaced it with the 16ks. the Ks fit in my rails so the installation into my pick-up was a snap. I bought the Ks on sale for less that $300, a good deal in my opinion. I will see how it tows this weekend. 523774

Comments
Not as well as I had hoped. After the third tow, I could not dis-engage the slider bar and had to slowly force it open with a 3 pound sledge. Afterwards, I took the head piece off and looked at the mechanism the slide bar was a part of. Seeing no obvious damage, I lubricated all the parts and reinstalled the head gear. It worked great the first time, but I experienced the same problem after the second tow. I just went ahead and bought a new hitch, a 26k Husky etrailer because I bought a heaver 5th wheel. No problems so far with the new hitch. I bought the fully articulating hitch this go around, as I had never had a problem with the first hitch I bought from Husky etrailer which was the same, but only a 16K.

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

I ordered a Husky silver series 5th wheel hitch with rails, and custom brackets, only to find out that the hitch was missing, a leg, crossmember, handle, and all hardware. Furthermore I paid extra money to have items shipped quickly, so I could pick up my new purchase. I am told, that even due to the fact there was a mistake made on your end, your company cannot overnight ship the rest of my items due to cost. I feel that is a poor excuse for a large company as yourself. I had already made phone contact to ensure all items were available prior to my order. I have been in contact with Carla, who has been nothing but nice and very helpful. I would appreciate it if you could please overnight my items that I should have receive monday the 4th, so I do not loose the trailer that me and my family are so happy to purchase due to not having my items in time. Thank you for your time. Kevin N 190815

Thanks George for the note.My last hitch was the Husky slider,I had a ford short bed.I had it for 9 years and it worked great.I went to this husky hitch because I up graded my Ford to a 1 ton long box.The hitch works good, but I have one question maybe you can answer My last hitch did not have very much side to side movement The new one has a lot of movement.I know this is to let you back the truck in when you are on a bit of a grade. The problem is when you are not hauling the trailer and you go over a bump or around a corner the hitch will flop to the opposite side making a bang when it hits the base.I had to put pieces of leather to cut down the noise when it hits.It there anything I can tighten so it dose not flop from side to side so easily. Thanks Jim Bell 551750

Works fine, how often should I grease the pin that hold s the head to the main housing. It has a bolt with a grease nipple going through to back of housing with a large nut and locking pin to stop nut from coming off Thanks

According to the instructions, that I have attached for your reference, the grease zerk fitting that you are describing is to be checked periodically. The other moving parts are recommended to be checked every to 3 to 6 months. It would depend on how often you are using you hitch and it is left at your best judgement how often periodically applied to your situation. I would recommend at a minimum every 3-6 months if not more frequently. We do have a help article that provides a maintenance schedule for other trailer components that you might find useful.

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

Quiet and capable hitch. Two issues. 1- Husky issued a recall to have Loctite applied to three bolts in the head, free repair if a dealer is near you. 30 minute DIY if you have loctite red and a torque wrench on hand and no accomodating dealer. 2- I have had to tighten the castle nut on the center pin a few times over 800 miles, head will develop a clunk in the yoke moving fore and aft. Husky indicated this is not a concern and there is no upper torque limit on the nut, so just adjust tighter as needed to compress the yoke to the head and eliminate this movement. All said, far more comfortable drive than the Husky 16 KS it replaced. 576427

product was just as I expected. E- trailer did a great job start to finish. UPS was, as expected, rough on the boxes. This caused a loss of a few pieces of hardware. ( I was able to replace the missing hardware at home depot) This was not a big deal just faster to go grab what I needed instead of contacting E-trailer. I would recommend E- Trailer to anyone and will use them myself as needed. 159546

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

Received product on time. As stated by other customers, box was pretty damaged with a hole on one corner. Lots of tape was used by someone and parts were loose in the box but got all parts and more. Received lots of hardware, made me wonder if I should use all of them. The instructions were not very helpful. Good thing I was replacing another Husky hitch, so having it side by side was great. Reviews from another customer mentioned the side to side swaying of the head and that it can damage the truck rails. The silver Husky does have more movement than my old hitch which should help hooking and unhooking. I set the height same as my old hitch which is the second hole from the top but am wondering if I should go the max. Also, the lever for the slide is a problem. it is too small and cannot get any leverage on it to disengage the slide. even though I also receive a second handle, it is too long and interferes with the top jaw handle. I have not pulled my 5th wheel yet, but am second guessing my self that maybe I should have stayed with my old hitch. we'll see. Maybe this will help someone. I drive a 2010 F-250 HD with a camper shell most of the time. I use a cherry picker/shop crane to remove the camper and install the hitch and vice versa. it is a one man operation for now since am 73 years old. 499361

I chose the Husky because of the listed height of the hitch. Unfortunately it sits about 1.5" higher than advertised. I was however able to use it and it performed very well. As long as I have someone helping me to get it in and out of my truck (because its very heavy) I would have to say I'm not too disappointed. Also, the custom rail kit was a perfect fit. I'm very happy I went with that particular kit. 738394

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

We received our hitch on Thursday, exactly when E-trailer said it would come, completed installing it in three hours. The rails had been installed from a previous hitch. The instructions where pretty good until the last step, they stopped before installing the receiver plate, but by that time I was able to figure out what needed to be done. We have traveled over 1500 miles in the first week and so far have not had any problems. One thing that I have noticed, turning is much smoother with the pivoting plate then from our previous hitch which it did not have. Also, the trailer jumped a curve while making a tight turn and was not felt in the cab of the truck. 667167

Review from a similar Husky Silver Series in Fifth Wheel

We purchased this 26k Husky hitch for two reasons. First, we just went from a short bed truck to a 8ft bed and no longer needed our auto slider. Second, we are going to trade our 40ft fifth wheel toy hauler for a 43ft toy hauler and the 18k auto slider was not rated high enough. The Husky hitch was delivered on time and the packaging was excellent. No damage or lost parts from shipping. This Husky hitch is very heavy duty, extremely well designed and nice looking. The quality of workmanship is excellent. We are very happy with our choice. Dealing with etrailer.com was a pleasant experience. They were extremely easy to work with keeping us updated on the shipping process and the delivery date. We received it 4 days after we ordered it. I feel confident if any problems should develop, Husky and or etrailer.com will take care of it pronto. Happy campers! 613760

  • Trailer to Cab Clearance Concerns for 5th Wheel Trailer Towed by 2009 F-250 Short Bed Pickup
Truck bed length does determine whether a fixed 5th wheel hitch can be used or if a sliding-type hitch that provides more turning clearance is required. Generally speaking, long-bed (8-foot bed) pickups are better for 5th wheeling since there will not be any risk of a trailer's overhang suddenly "making friends" with the rear of your truck cab. This has spoiled many a camping trip. Certain 5th wheel trailers are designed with a tapered nose that reduces the risk of overhang-to-cab contact....

  • Husky 16K Silver Series 5th Wheel Hitch Compatibility with Roto-Flex Pin Box
The Husky Silver Series 16K S 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Slide Bar Jaw - 16,000 lbs # HT31313-31314 is compatible with a Roto-Flex pin box. The only pin boxes that are not compatible are the rotating pin boxes that require a wedge like the Revolution or Sidewinders. If you want to further reduce the jarring and chucking, you should look into a pin box with an air bag integrated like the Trailair Air Ride 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert 1621 - 21,000 lbs # LC158778. You will want to make...

  • Compatibility of Anderson Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection w/ 2015 Toyota Tundra Crewmax
The Andersen Ultimate Connection you referenced, part # AM3200 isn't meant to be used in trucks with beds shorter than 6 feet. If you don't already have bed rails in your truck, you can install them using part # RP30035-309. The hitch you'll need will depend on the weight of your fifth wheel. The non-sliding...

  • Fifth Wheel Bracket Kit and Brake Controller Recommendation for 1998 GMC C/K Series Pick Up Truck
There are some fifth wheel hitch installation kits available for your 1998 GMC K3500 truck, but they are universal kits that would require drilling into the truck frame. None of our manufacturers offer a custom, no-drill kit for 4th Generation GM C/K pickups. • Towing Capacity and 5th Wheel Hitch Installation Kit for 1998 Chevy C3500 Dually Cheyenne
Based on my research the 1998 Chevy C3500 V8 has a maximum towing capacity of 10,000-lbs. I was able to find this figure in several online resources. The very best way to confirm a vehicle's towing capacity is to either check the owner's manual, if available, or to contact a dealership with the truck's VIN. This will allow the dealer to look up the factory-installed equipment. We have 5th wheel hitch installation kits for both the 6-1/2-foot bed and 8-foot bed trucks. The easiest install...
