Features:
Specs:
Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.
Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).
Curt's unique spherical axial bearing provides a durable pivot point that allows easy, 360-degree movement of the hitch head. This ball joint is designed for smooth, quiet operation with less clunking and chucking.
Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.
Non-Binding Design
The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.
With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.
With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.
Video of Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider, Rails and Installation Kit - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs
Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Today are going to review part number C16636. This is the Curt Q20 Dual Jaw 5th wheel Trailer hitch with the R20 slider, the rails, and the universal installation kit all included and has a 20,000 pound weight capacity. This heavy duty 5th wheel trailer has the Dual Jaw 360 degree pivoting head. It even uses a color coding lock indicator on the handle for extra safety and security. The two Jaw locking system provides a nice 360 degree Jaw to Kingpin contact that will give you less rattle more security then the slider bar models. Has a self aligning head that will pivot for a simple hook up.
What's nice about this head is that it uses a unique spherical axial bearing and this allows easy pivoting to the hitch heads. Once you are hooked up and there is weight on this it can give you a smooth 360 degree movement. Not just front to back, side to side tilting. Also uses built in cushioning which helps absorb the road shock. There is also 3 lube points that are marked. One right here, one over here, and one over right here.
They are very easy to access so you can grease the head very quickly and easily. The other nice feature is they have holding this head into the cross member is two long pins with clips in it. If you pull those pins out, pull those clips out that will allow to remove that head from the cross member. Then you can remove the cross member and the slider from the truck. So I actually makes it very easy for one person to remove this hitch from a vehicle. Now it does come with this plastic lube plate.
This will let the kingpin glide smoothly into the hitch during hook up. You just put this onto the kingpin on your pins box and this will slide in. Makes it very easily.make it very smooth to hook up. The other nice thing is with this on there it also helps protect the hitch head plate up here. Now it does have a 4 inch height adjustment on the cross member there's 3 rows of holes and it will give you a range from anywhere from 17 1/2 to 21 1/2 inches.
Basically, the hitch height is measured from your truck bed to the top of the hitch head. What that does is allow you to.those adjustments allow you to get the.you want to have your 5th wheel trailer as level as possible with the truck that's pulling it. So that will give you the adjustment range to give you the correct height. It does have a lockable handle right here. This will let you secure the trailer to the hitch with the pin and clip that comes with it. Or it's even got the holes that are big enough you could put a padlock in there. Now the padlock is sold separately it doesn't come with it. We do list them. we do sell them on our website and they are listed on this product page as a related product. The handles very short throw, single handle operation. I'm going to show you in a minute how that operates. I mentioned the 3 point indicator system right here. It's color coded. This a little hole right here that a color shows through that's on the handle. You could actually see this from.it's visible from the cab of your tow vehicle. Basically, what it tells you is, it tells you 3 positions. It tells you tow, which is green, couple, which is yellow, and then red which is uncouple. So if it anytime it shows red that means you are not coupled. You don't want to go anywhere. Once it shows green like it does right now with the Jaws closed. That means you are ready to tow and when you pull it open the jaws open to hook up. It will show yellow, which means it's ready to couple. Now the slider that it is on is a nonbinding slider. That will provide clearance which is required on a short bed truck to turn safely at slow speeds. It basically prevents the trailer from hitting the cab of your pickup during those sharp slow speed turns. It does slide smoothly on the rounded nonbinding rods right here and it does go back 12 inches to the back of the vehicle. So there is 12 inches front to back movement. Now it is designed for use on trucks with a bed shorter then 8 feet. It is not recommended for use on truck beds shorter then 6 feet. It does also include base rails right here that I got them sitting on, and the brackets here, and the hardware. That is the universal installation kit, that is all included. The universal kit that comes with it, does require drilling to install on your vehicle. We do like to recommend to people that if you use a custom or vehicle specific bracket kit, an install kit. We do sell those separately for some vehicles, not everyone. What we would recommend is to go to our website, use our fit guide. Put in your year and model vehicle. There is a chance to use the vehicle specific bracket kit, we would recommend it. It would save you about 50 % of the time, compared to the universal kit. Because it would actually will use holes already that are drilled in the frame of your vehicle. This is a sturdy steel construction. Has a nice durable carbide powder coat finish on it. A few spec on this, the gross towing weight is 20,000 pounds. Vertical load limiter pin way capacity is 4,000 pounds. I mentioned to slider travel is 12 inches front to back. Again the height adjustment is adjustable, 17 1/2 up to 21 1/2, so 4 inch adjustment. What I am going to show you first is how the head. How you would hook up the kingpin to it. Here is an example of what the kingpin would look like on the pin box of your trailer. Here's your lube plate. You just push that on all the way until its up against there. Then of course, the kingpin is attached to the pin box so when your going to connect which you want to do. Let's first open the jaws that are closed right now. So we will take the pin and clip out. Flip the latch over. Your handles ready to go, so you just pull it. Just like that, it's a very sharp throw. You can see the jaws opened up. So now your ready and if you look at the color it's showing yellow. Which means you are ready to couple. Your backing into your pin box so your kingpin comes in here. Once it goes in far enough you can see it clicks. The handle slides in. The jaws completely wrap around the kingpin. Its showing green, so that means your are ready to go. You just flip this down. Again, put the pin and clip if you want. You could put the padlock in, if you have one. We are just going to do the pin and clip right now. That's locked, the handle down so there is no releasing that. Now if you do need to move this, the slider again. Right now it's in the towing position so it's closest to the cab of the tow vehicle. So, you're out on the road towing. Now come to a place.camping place where you want to drop the trailer. The maneuvering position would be this way. It's 12 inches to the tailgate. So all you would have to do is on this handle just pull this handle out. When you pull it out far enough just twist it back. That will lock that into position to we're you can slide. You can see it will slide and when it meets the notches right there. You'll notice it will lock into place. Just like that, it hit the notch, locks it into place. Now its locked into the maneuvering position. So you got that extra 12 inches of clearance from the pin box king pin to the back of the tow vehicle. Now when you're done maneuvering around and you want to get back on the road and tow. What you want to do this time is just pull it out and twist it that way toward the trailer. Pull it out, twist it like that and it holds it open. Then when you get in and move it. You will see that it will roll back. When you hit the towing position, it locks into place. Pretty simple just like that. If you want to unhook the kingpin just to show you that. Take the pin and clip out, the latch, and pull open that handle. Just like that. You see its open and ready to go. That should do it for the review on part number C16636. This the Curt Q20 Dual Jaw 5th wheel Trailer Hitch with the R20 Slider, The Rails, and the Universal Installation Kit and that all has the 20,000 pound weight capacity.

This is one of the finest hitches I have ever had. I love the ease of operation, the strength it has, and its light weight enough that I can remove it by myself if I want to take my hitch completely out of the bed of my truck. It is a breeze to connect and disconnect by myself, which is a major plus for this solo traveler. The other bonus is the small profile in the bed of the truck, and I still have room to load all my art gear for a show. I would highly recommend it to everyone! 584507

Extremely happy with the new hitch, very easy to assemble (4 bolts, local dealer wanted $300 to assemble), even easier to attach to my factory hitch mounts (Ford). Get someone to help you lift it into your truck. 480689

I bought the 5th wheel to haul trailers and, it's been a great hitch and has been maintained but it's starting to breakdown, parts are failing , but if used for a personal trailer, it will be a great hitch 264239

Shipping was little quirky the factory shipped it via freight and i had to go pick it up from the freight company about 30 minutes away. Once i got it home it was packaged well, installed was very strait forward, it is heavy though so make sure you have two people to lift it into the truck. Have yet to pull a trailer with it so we will see how that goes. Overall assembly height is when installed onto the ram oem rail system adapter is fairly high roughly 57" in the back of 2016 ram 2500. seems like a great product, time will tell. 339057

Just got back from a two-week road trip out west, the new trailer hitch performed without a snag! Easy docking and undocking, very nice to have a nice smooth ride. We are very impressed and thankful for an excellent product. The package in which the hitch arrived was in pretty rough shape, but all the pieces arrived. There is one place on the deck itself where it took some scuffing of the paint from whatever it was banged on during shipping. We are going to have to touch up that place to keep it from rusting in the elements. All in all, this was a great buy. Thanks 574834
Any good quality rust inhibiting spray paint like Rust-Oleum would work just fine.

Received product from ETrailer in a very timely manner. All went well with no hitch, play on words, that is what I purchased. Sandy was helpful beyond belief and answered all my questions. Some speak of the damaged boxes when these Curt Hitches arrive. Mine too were damaged but the product was unscathed. Shipping the 100 lbs products I didn't expect the boxes to last. ETrailer did a great job stuffing the shipping boxes all was well. I would recommend ETrailer just on how professional the employees are. I will being purchasing other items again. Thanks again Sandy! 328914

The slide portion of this hitch works very well with very little effort from truck. I have hooked and unhooked several times at our permanent campground lot and have not had any problem with the jaws locking or releasing . We have not taken the 5th wheel camper down the road for any distance, so I cannot comment on hitch rattle or ride. The only issue I have had and it is negligible. It was hard for me to insert and remove the rail pins to remove the hitch from the truck because the rear pins are under the hitch frame.( and yes I mounted the rails perfectly square). If you're not going to remove the hitch often than its a non issue. The rubber dampeners just make the pins tight. I would recommend this hitch for sure just can't give it an excellent if we haven't taken it down the road for a distance. 383206
We have taken our Fifth wheel to Arizona and back and the hitch performed perfectly. I make sure to keep the hitch lubricated properly. It is definitely quieter and less jerky. I would give the hitch a 5 star as I have not had a problem with this hitch.

Great product, well built. Only issue I had was the two flat head screws needed to be countersunk deeper, as they stuck up and destroy the lube plate. 350349

Thank-you etrailer for the fast free shipping! Ordered on Sunday evening and received hitch, mounting kit, and wiring package on Friday!!!! 5 boxes in delivery and all were received at the same time, great job. already tow 5th wheel with this hitch and it is great. Better than my old reese. Hook-up is easy and positve. Will say it does take all evening to install and measurements are extremly important to a good installation. Measured and checked square several times prior to any drilling and the mounting brackets are perfect. Thanks again for the fast, complete, and quality shipment. The only comment regarding shipment is that the hitch box had some damage when received and 5th wheel had a couple of same scratches, no big deal!!! The shipping box is not very durable based on product weight! 192850
Have pulled my 38 foot toy hauler on 9 different trips now with absolutely no problems. Great fifth wheel. previously had a Reese and this on is a just as good if not better.

I had a 16K Husky 5th wheel hitch for 12 years. It came with the RV purchase. We upgraded to a larger 5th wheel in 2015. I pulled it with the K16 but due to wear on the hitch I didn't feel comfortable. I searched the internet and came upon etrailer.com. I began researching different hitches. I settled on Curt due to it's reviews. I placed an order with etrailer and the next day I got an email with all of the shipping and tracking information. I had the hitch in 5 days. I was very disappointed when it was delivered. The shipping box was very light duty and had been reinforced with pieces of cardboard damaged. There was also a lot of heavy duty staples holding it together. I took photos upon delivery. After I opened the box I found the hitch was damaged. I immediately sent an email with photos of the box as received and the damage to the hitch. I called customer service and talked to Gina and Janice and went over the details. I was given instructions for returning the hitch and was emailed necessary papers to ship it back at no charge. I dropped it off at UPS the same day and received notification in 3 days that it was received. I was also advised a new hitch would be sent out and I received it in 3 days. At first I was very upset but after. That quickly changed after talking to the staff and receiving the new hitch within 5 days. These type things sometimes happen. I give the staff at etrailer.com an applause for their quick handling of this issue. I have since made another purchase. Give them a try. 275867

Review from a similar Curt Q20 in Fifth Wheel
The Curt Q20 with R20 slider hitch arrived just as promised in 3 days after placing the order. The Q20 head box was totally destroyed. The manufacture packaging was not made to ship individually using small package carrier such as UPS. Upon inspection I discovered that the bolts and washers were missing. I contacted Bill at E-trailer and told him. He explained that the replacements would have to come from the manufacturer and would take several days. I told him that I already scheduled an install and really needed those bolts and washers. He was able to round some up for me and shipped them out next day and they arrived on Monday just as promised. I also spoke with Bill about not being able to remove the head unit for the hitch. It needed to be removed to be able to install it on the slider. It seemed to be stuck and I could not budge it. I assumed that it may have been damaged in shipping, especially after receiving it in a demolished box. He explained to me that since it was new its tolerances were tight and I might try taking a pry bar to it. Well that did not make me feel real good. He was totally correct. Just a little more effort with a pry bar moved it just enough for the bushing to squeak loose and the head came right out. I am disappointed in the jaws on this unit. They look like they were forged by a 3rd grader. Not smooth and somewhat pitted. They are not machined jaws for sure. Had it all installed using the new Reese rail brackets for the 2017 F250. Everything went smooth. An added plus is the quiet ride when not connect to trailer. Can’t even notice the hitch is back there. My other hitch rattled and clanked all the time and was so annoying. I just hooked my 38ft 5th wheel for the first time. It was smoother and easier than any other hitch I have ever used. I bought the sider unit which is recommended by all for the short bed. However I cannot use the slider as the king pin box slides too close to the tall tail gate. The new 2017 F250 is taller and the bed is deeper so I needed a hitch that would go up to 19 ½ inches. I will update after a my first run with trailer later this month. Everyone at E-trailer was outstanding. 5 Star. I will keep using them in the future. 303415

Because of personal medical issues, I had the hitch installed professionally. I pull a 38' fifth wheel behind a Duramax powered Chevy. The hitch has served it's purpose well and looking forward to using it for many more years!! I purchased the slider version, but have found that I would NOT have had to purchase a slider because of the design of the front of my fifth wheel, as seen in the pic's. I am able to do 90 degree turns without any problems (without moving the hitch rearward). 302964

Review from a similar Curt Q20 in Fifth Wheel
I bought a new trailer recently that weighs 16k and I just didn't feel secure using my Reese pro series 16k to Haul with. So I started looking at various hitches. I've had 3 other fifth wheel hitches in the past. All of them have been 15 and 16k models. What I never liked was the latching system. I've even had a trailer come out of the hitch due to a poor latching hook up. There wasn't an good way to lock the hitch. Some of it was my fault and some was a poor design. When I saw the Curt Q20 had a latch on the handle and also was color coded I was hooked. This hitch satisfied my want list. It arrived 4 days after I ordered it and like other comments I've read it was full of heavy duty staples. It was double packaged. There had to be over 50 staples. It was defiantly packaged securely. After dimantaling the packing I finally got to the hitch. There were a few scratches on the hitch from all the staples but a bit of black touch up paint took care of that. After all the hitch is going to be used and get scrached by me anyways. Four bolts and it was together. It fit perfictly it my existing rails. By the way it's heavier than my other hitches. I wound be apprehensive to pull my new trailer. If your looking for a great hitch at a great price you can't go wrong. 344415

I have just used the hitch on some very short pulls, nothing long yet. However, I can tell it is much quitter and does not seem to chuck as much as my old hitch. Appears to be very well built. Heavier than the old 15K hitch I had before. The only down I can find right now is that there is not a good place to hook up the emergency stop brake cable. I was able to rig up a connector that works just fine. 428791
This hitch is really quiet and smooth. No more chucking like my old Reese hitch. I cannot believe the increase of price however, over the past year. Paid less than $500 a year ago. Made the purchase fairly reasonable to purchase at the time.

This hitch is a great product. It came by UPS well packaged— not torn. Our 5th Wheel hitched so easily . It fit perfectly on the Reese rails that was already on the truck bed. Great instructions— easy to assemble (4 bolts). I love the professional people this company has. Thank you etrailer. 509080

Review from a similar Curt Q20 in Fifth Wheel
I can only compare this hitch to one other that I previously owned . We pulled our fifth wheel from Illinois to Arizona and back. Up and down mountains and through a couple of snow storms and wind. The hitch performed as expected and was much quieter than our previous one. Also it absorbed the back and forth (I call it porpoising) effect very well. I also had to slide the hitch several times and was able to do this fairly easy. Just be careful on your accelerator and go slow while holding brake controller. The only issues I had were disconnecting and pulling out the Maneuver Handle. It is hard to tell when the trailer is loose from the hitch plate. When lowering jacks to disconnect, it is difficult to see any clearances. When I needed to slide the hitch there were times that pulling the handle to release the slide was difficult. You have to keep in mind that not having any pressure on the mechanics of the hitch will help tremendously and also keep it lubricated. I like the hitch and am going to keep using it. Its my opinion that the more you use a product the easier it gets to operate. CURT did a good job on this hitch. 496367
