Secure, 2-Piece Jaw

Q24 Two-Piece Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

3-Point Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

Q24 Color Indicator System

360-Degree Pivot

Curt's unique spherical axial bearing provides a durable pivot point that allows easy, 360-degree movement of the hitch head. This ball joint is designed for smooth, quiet operation with less clunking and chucking.

Non-Binding Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.

With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.

With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.

Video Transcript for Curt Fifth Wheel - Sliding Fifth Wheel - C16545-16020 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with the slider for the Ford towing prep package and it has a 24,000 lb weight capacity. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2011 and newer Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks that have the 6 3/4 ft bed and the factory installed towing prep package on it. Now on a custom fit part I always would recommend to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year model vehicle and it'll show you if this will work for your application. Now this 5th wheel hitch will mount in your truck bed so that you can tow your 5th wheel trailer. Now the part I'm describing here would be the hitch head and the slider that it's on. For demonstration purposes I have it installed on a display stand that has the under-bed rails attached to it that are used in your Ford truck. This gives you an idea of what it would look like installed on your truck bed. The slider right here, this built-in slider, provides the clearance that's required for your short bed truck to turn safely at slow speeds.

It slides smoothly on these rounded non-binding rods and it'll move 12" front-to-back to give you that extra clearance needed. The other nice thing about this is because it's made to go into the under-bed rails on your vehicle, when you do remove this from your truck, there will be no rails in the bed of the truck. It gives you full access to your truck bed when this is removed. Up at the top here it uses a two-jaw locking system right here in the head. It provides a 360 degree jaw to kingpin contact. Because of that design it gives you less rattle and more security than the slide bar models.

The back of the handle here, it has a three-point indicator system and it's color coded. It's an easy way to tell if your hitch is ready to couple, uncouple, or tow. These colors are visible from the cab. If you turn around and look you can see what color is showing. It tells you what position the jaws are in. What I'm going to try to do is rotate this around just to give you an idea of what that would look like.

If we spin this around what I'm talking about is right here on the back. You can see there's a hole there and it shows the color green. What that's saying is these jaws are wrapped around the kingpin right now and it's ready to tow, so you're all good to go. It would also show yellow in there when you open this handle and the jaws open for hookup. It'll say ...

It'll show yellow, which that means couple. Now by chance if you go to couple and it doesn't couple correctly and it shows red in that hole right there, that means it's uncoupled. You don't want to do anything until you get that corrected. It's going to show either you're ready to tow, you're ready to couple, or it's uncoupled. It's a nice quick way, visual indicator, to show the position of the jaws in the head there. Now also on this hitch itself it uses a unique spherical axial bearing underneath here that allows easy pivoting of the hitch head. It'll give you a smooth 360 degree movement, not just front-to-back or side-to-side, like on a lot of hitches. This will get you . Once you get the weight of the pin box and the trailer on here it'll allow it to move 360 degrees. It also gives you built-in cushioning to help absorb any road shock. The handle we mentioned, it is a lockable handle, right here. It has a pin and clip you can remove and then this will open and close. It's a . It lets you secure the trailer to the hitch. You can actually put a padlock through here when you flip this over all the holes line up. You can use the pin and clip, but the hole is large enough to put a padlock through if you want extra security. The handle itself is a short throw single handle operation. I'll show you in a minute how that works. The head on this is a self-aligning head and it'll pivot for a simple hook-up. It does have three lube points that are easy to access. There's a grease fitting down here, one over here, one over here. It makes it easy to hook a grease gun to and simple maintenance is all that's needed on this. If you want to remove this it is designed to come apart, so one person can remove it from the truck bed. Basically if you pull these two clips out, pull these pins out, you can take the head out of the crossmember. Then if you just remove the crossmember and the slider legs it's . One person can do that, so it'll make it easy if you don't have anybody around to help you. Now this part does include the plastic lube plate. We do recommend that you use this on the kingpin. This is nice because it'll help the kingpin glide smoothly into the hitch during hook-up. Once it's installed in there it helps protect the pin box from any rubbing on the hitch head. Installing this on your truck is pretty fast and easy to do. Basically it just has fiber tabs that will drop into the receiver pucks that are in your Ford factory under-bed rails. The way you would do that is just . To remove this, like right now it's installed in it, you just pull this pin and clip. Rotate these handles 90 degrees, that'll rotate those tabs. Do that on that side and you'll be able to lift this out of the under-bed rails. When you go to install it leave it open on both sides like this, drop it in, rotate the handles 90 degrees toward the tabs, or rotate and lock in the rails. Put this pin and clip through both handles. Clip it and it'll keep those handles from opening up, very simple to do. The hitch and the slider is a sturdy steel construction. Its got a nice durable carbide powder coat finish over it. A few specs on this: the gross towing weight capacity is 24,000 lbs, the vertical load limit or pin weight capacity is 6,000 lbs, and I mentioned the slider travel from the towing position lock to the maneuvering lock is 12" front-to-back. I'm going to demonstrate the head, how it operates, and then the slider just to give you an idea. Here's an example of a kingpin. This is what it would look like on your pin box. What you want to do is take that lube plate and slide it onto your kingpin. What we're going to do first is open up the jaws here. Again we took the pin and clip off, we flipped the latch open, and now I'm going to show you that short throw single handle real quick. Simple like that, just pull it lightly, jaws open up. It shows yellow back here, you're ready to couple. You just take this and as you're backing up to couple, you can see it couples pretty easily as it slides in. Once you hit that certain point the jaws will completely wrap around 360 degrees. The handle slides into place. Flip the latch up and put your pin and clip in, or padlock if which you preferred. That'll lock the handle and keep anybody from releasing it from your . The kingpin from your hitch head. Now on the slider it is also pretty simple to use. Right now it's locked in the towing position. If you get to a campground and you want to move it around and have to make some sharp turns. You want to move it to the maneuvering position to get more clearance. All you've got to do is take your handle, pull it out, and then all you do is turn it towards the cab. Then you'll see right here it's also color coded. It has a red ring, that means it is unlocked, it's going to slide. When you go move into the maneuvering position it'll just slide back. Once you hit that position you notice the handle slides in and locks into place. Over here it'll show a green ring which means it's locked. Now you're in a maneuvering position. To change it, if you're ready to get back on the highway, and you're ready to tow and you want to put it back in the towing position. Again the only thing different was when you pull the handle out. Just pull it out and turn it towards the trailer this way, the opposite way. Then that way, so when it rolls back into the towing position, it'll lock just like that. The same way, no red showing. The green showing here, you're all ready to go. That should do it for the review of the Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with the slider for the Ford towing prep package and the 24,000 lb weight capacity.

Hitch was easy to assemble and install in my F350. The Curt hitch and my factory puck system go well together. Have towed my RV from coast to coast with out an issue. Definitely a 5 star rating from me 476689

It works Great very easy to connect seems extremely strong great quality. only down side was its 2 pieces for easy removal but is still very heavy. I have a short bed so I thought I would need the slide but so far have never needed, my fifth wheel has front cap with molded corners for short beds Really wish I would have bought the same hitch with no slider. Would have been a little lighter and took up less room when in truck 584369

Couldn’t be better. It is easy to hook up and to unhook. The slider really makes it easier to back. If I had to buy another fifth wheel hitch it would be a Curt. 571841

I wouldn’t buy any other brand! The slider works great but what I really like is when you hitch up you can tell when you are ready to go because it will show you the green to pull sign. No guessing if it is actually hitched or not! Best price at etrailor than any anywhere because I looked.

Love the hitch when we are using it. It hitches easy and smoothly and the sliding mechanism works well when needed. My only complaint is when we need to take it out of the truck bed. It is very heavy and takes two people to get it to a pallet where it can be moved with my forklift. I don't think we could move it in/out of truck without something to lift it to the truck bed height. 541972

Review from a similar Q24 in Fifth Wheel Hitch

Installed this hitch in a 2018 RAM 3500 dually and really like the way that the pucks hook up in the bed. Much quieter than the older hook up with a rail in the bed. The Curt hitches have color coded the lever to indicate open or closed when you back into the hitch. This is seen from the driver's seat and you don't have to get out to check. Solid hook up to the trailer and I really like this hitch. Easy to hook up and unhook. 732926

Review from a similar Q24 in Fifth Wheel Hitch

I installed this into the 5th wheel prep package that comes on a 2016 Ram 3500. Although I installed the prep package myself, the CURT system dropped right in. It took me about 90 min to assemble and install the hitch system in my truck with very little adjustment. The directions were easy to follow and felt it all went very smooth. When O was finished I hooked up my RV w/o any problems. I am very pleased with this set up and would definitely install it again. The only drawback it the weight but it's to be expected w/ a 25k lb system 244447

Review from a similar Q24 in Fifth Wheel Hitch

I ordered the 24K 5th wheel hitch ton fit the Ford factory mounting sustem. It is easy to install and remove. The lever locking pins work great, but does not provide necessary security, so I added a lock to one side. The hitch operates as designed, but could use more flexibility in movement. Disconnected, the kingpin clamps won't close without the plastic kingpin provided. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and the operation of the hitch. 352582

Received hitch very quickly and in great condition. Will have hitch installed by the folks where I bought our 2013 38 foot Montana fifth wheel. Just had wrist operation and cannot lift heavy objects for several more weeks is the only reason the RV dealer is installing hitch. I am impressed with the fast delivery and design of the hitch. Will post pictures once hitch is installed and hooked up to my rig. 295384

Review from a similar Q24 in Fifth Wheel Hitch

Ordered the 24k Curt Slider on a Tuesday. It arrived 2 days later. As has been noted by a few others, the box was in bad shape. Fortunately I have a very good UPS driver and he helped me load it into my new Ram. I parked at the end of my driveway and knew about the time he delivers. He looked around in his truck and found the 1/2 inch bolts that came out of the box. Had the hitch hooked to my RV about an hour later. Everything fit perfectly. Also, the etrailer price was a lot better than other places, so I'm happy. Heading to California from Michigan soon so that will be the real test of the hitch. 435219

I have a USA made slider hitch that is a fit for your 2017 Ford Factory rail kit but the Curt hitch you mentioned is not it. Instead the B and W Companion Slider part # BWRVK3370 is and would be a great option. For a USA made slider hitch that automatically slides back as you make tight turns we have the Demco Hijacker Autoslide part # DM8550038 which is my favorite option. Getting out and having to operate the slider mechanism can be somewhat of a hassle, especially is poor weather,...

If you wanted to email me a picture of your air ride setup feel free, but I would be very surprised if there was an issue.

  • Recommended Sliding 5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2017 Ford F-350 with Factory Rail Kit
For your 2017 Ford F-350 with a 6-3/4 foot bed, I recommend the Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16545-16020. This sliding hitch will mount directly to the factory receiver pucks that are built into the underbed rails. The hitch has a gross towing weight of 24,000 pounds and a slider travel of 12 inches that will provide the necessary clearance for sharp turns. This unit also features an adjustable height setting between 17-1/2 and 21-1/2 inches. I have attached a short video review...

  • Best Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty With Ford Factory Prep Package
You mentioned wanting a light slider, though I do have to say that all 5th wheel hitches are going to have some heft to them. That said, there are ways to make it more manageable to remove them from the bed, which you can do by removing the head unit first and then the base, though it will still take two people to remove. Having said that, I will give you a couple options, starting with what is absolutely the best sliding 5th wheel hitch for your 2019 Ford F-250 with the factory Ford...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches for a 2018 Ford F-250 4x4 Both with and without Factory Prep Package
On your 2018 Ford F-250 4x4 look in the bed. If you see the 4 pucks in the bed like in the picture I have included then you do have the factory 5th wheel prep package. If you just see the indentations where the pucks would be then you do not have the prep package. If you do have those pucks then you can use a hitch that mounts directly in them. For a long bed truck you can use the following: # BWRVK3305 # C16036 # RP30871 # DM8550033 If you have the prep package and a short...

  • Where are 5th Wheel Hitch Adjustable Height Measurements Taken on 2018 Ford F-350 w/Prep Package
For B&W Companion hitch # BWRVK3370 fit Ford trucks with the prep package you would measure from the top of the pucks. That is about the same as the top of the bed corrugations. I have linked a video review of this hitch for you. Are you looking for a specific height that could possibly fall outside of the range of the Companion? If you need to go lower Demco hitches # DM8550024 and # DM8550038 are height adjustable from 15-1/2 inches to 18-1/4 inches. These hitches also slide automatically...

  • Comparing the Curt Q24, Q25, and A25 5th Wheel Hitches for a 2019 Ford F-350 with Puck System
I recommend going with the A25 over the Q24 or the Q25 series 5th wheel hitches from Curt. The A25 is the upgraded version of the Q series with the upgrades being stronger material for the hitch head and interlocking jaws that help reduce chucking (see attached pictures). Aside from that they are pretty much the same. The only difference from the Q24 to the Q25 is that the Q25 head unit is rated for 25,000 lbs which is 1,000 lbs more than the Q24. Since they both use the same leg unit that...

You said that you have a short bed but you didn't specific whether you have the OEM puck system or not. That's not a huge deal though as the parts you need change just a little bit.
