Secure, 2-Piece Jaw

Q24 Two-Piece Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

3-Point Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

Q24 Color Indicator System

360-Degree Pivot

Curt's unique spherical axial bearing provides a durable pivot point that allows easy, 360-degree movement of the hitch head. This ball joint is designed for smooth, quiet operation with less clunking and chucking.

Non-Binding Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.

With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.

With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.

Video Transcript for Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Ford F350 Super Duty, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt Q Series line of fifth wheel trailer hitches with slider for the Ford towing prep package. More and more nowadays, we're seeing trucks that have shorter than 8 foot beds on them, which comes in a problem when we go to tow as a fifth wheel, because we want our hitch to be on our forward side of our rear axle, but that ends up putting our trailer extremely close to our cab. That's where our slider's going to help out. When it comes time to make those tight turns, we can come to this vertical handle here on the side. We'll pull it out, rotate it back, and that'll allow the hitch to slide back a full 12 inches giving us our clearance to go around the turn. Then it'll lock into position so we can make that turn without fear of hitting our truck. Then, whenever we need to go in a straight line again and we're ready to tow, simply pull that handle out again, rotate it again, and our hitch will slide back and lock into the towing position. Our slider's going to have a weight capacity of 24,000 pounds, but keep in mind you don't want to exceed the weight capacity of the head that you have, and it's always a good idea to double check your truck's owner's manual and never exceed the manufacturer's recommended weight.

Now, because of the design of our slider, it's going to have that round tube as well as some rollers which is going to make it slide very smoothly, and it's going to have a nonbinding action to it, so no matter what position it's in, it's going to slide rather easily. Now, one thing Curt has done, is they made it extremely easy to use our slider, and safe. They put an indicator here on the end of the handle with a red stripe towards the driver's side, to let us know that it's not locked in. If we slide our slider back towards the tailgate, you see the handle will lock into position, and also over on the passenger side we'll have a green indicator that's sticking out, letting us know that we're good to go and that it is locked in. Now, this is going to be showing whether we're in the maneuvering position or the towing position, so it's an easy indication to know what's going on.Now, you'll see on the bottom of our slider here there is going to be a green sticker towards the cab, and that's going to be the towing position because we want our hitch to be as close to the cab locked in when we're towing. If we move farther back, when it slides back we're going to have another sticker that's going to say maneuvering, and that's going to be when we slide it back so we can go around those tight turns. Our slider is designed to be used with the Ford factory prep tow package, which is going to make it extremely easy to get it in place.

We're going to have two levers on each side, held in by a simple pin and clip here. We can remove the pin and we can rotate our handles out towards the side of our truck. That'll unlock those legs underneath, and then we'll be able to lift our slider out. If we're putting our slider back in place, same thing. We're just going to drop those feet down into the pucks and we're going to rotate our levers inward, and then we'll secure them with a pin and clip to make sure they won't open back up.Now, the great thing abour our slider is that when we're not towing or if we don't plan on towing for quite a while, we can pull that slider out and put our plugs back in place, and we'll have full bed access.

As you can see with the hitch removed, we'll have full bed access, and then we can just put the factory plugs back in and won't have to worry about water or debris getting inside. As far as the setup and installation, it's going to be rather straightforward. It is rather heavy, so keep in mind you might want to grab an extra set of hands to help you put it in place. Now, as far as the heads go, there's going to be two different variations that are going to be available. We're going to have the Q20 which is going to be a 20,000 gross trailer weight rating, and the Q24 which is going to have a 24,000 pound. Now, as you can see they're going to look very similar, just the funnel area and this top skid plate is going to be a little bit different, and the main difference is going to be that weight rating.

They're going to install exactly the same and function exactly the same. Both of the hitches are going to have a dual jaw design. Which is going to cut down on a lot of that rattling and chucking and make for a more comfortable ride. It's going to accomplish that because it's going to have a full 360 degree contact with our kingpin, rather than the one piece slide bar style where that kingpin can move around and there's not a full grip around it. The wide funnel on the skid plate is going to make it easier hooking up even if we're not directly behind our trailer.Whenever we are ready to hook up, we can come to the handle over on the driver's side and we'll have a pin and clip that we can remove. It is tethered so we don't have to worry about losing it. We'll flip this lever up and we'll pull our handle out, and once it's out the jaws will open up. Then along the back side, just like our slider it's going to be color coded, except there's going to be a yellow indicator letting us know that we're ready to couple. For added security, we can replace this pin and clip with a padlock, which are sold separately.I have this piece here to simulate our trailer kingpin, but as soon as we start backing up and this slides in place, it's going to lock in and make sure that that handle goes back into the towing position. Once it's fully locked in, you can rotate that latch back down and reinsert the pin and clip, and we'll be ready to hit the road. Now, on both of the heads they're going to be fully articulating, which means that they're going to tilt left and right as well as front to back. That's going to make it extremely easy to hook up on unlevel terrain, and make for a more comfortable ride so we won't have to worry about that chucking and jarring feeling inside of our truck. The way the head is going to install to the slider is we're going to have two bolts that are going to come from the inside going through the slider, and we'll have three adjustments on the head itself. We're going to be able to adjust from 17 inches to 21 inches, and that's going to be the measurement from the bottom of the bed to the top of the skid plate on our hitch. Now, to make things a little bit easier when you do install it, the upper section is removable from the mid section. If we come to the back, there's going to be a pin and clip on either side. If we remove this clip, we'll be able to pull that pin out and then pull this bracket that's going to sit over our tube here, and if we did that on both sides we'll be able to lift the head out, making it a lot lighter and a lot easier to work with. Now, for regular maintenance on our hitch, they've provided us with a couple of grease zerks, so it's going to be extremely easy to lube them up. We'll have one right underneath the jaws in the center of the funnel, and then one on either side. Both hitches are also going to come with a plastic lube plate, so when we hook up to our trailer it's going to slide on a lot easier. The Q20 is going to have a 20,000 pound gross trailer weight rating, along with a 4,000 pound vertical load limit. Whereas, our Q24 is going to have a 24,000 pound gross trailer weight rating along with a 6,000 pound vertical load limit. Now, with all of those numbers in mind, I always suggest that you double check your truck's owner's manual and never exceed the manufacturer's recommended weight. If you're looking for a fifth wheel and your truck already has the Ford factory prep package in it, these are going to a great option. It's going to be straightforward and easy to use. Now that we've seen what they look like and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it set up.To begin our installation, we're going to have to assemble our slider. We're going to want to take out the two end pieces, as well as the handle, the spring, and the small bolt and lock nut that's going to be connecting everything together. We'll start by taking the handle piece. It's going to have the red stripe on it and the rubber coated handle section, and we'll come to the driver's side. We're going to know it's the driver's side because closer to the cab is going to have the green towing position sticker, and towards the back it'll say maneuvering with our latches on the outside. There's going to be a hole on the side here that our handle's going to fit through. We feed our handle through so it comes out in the middle. We're going to take our spring and slide it over that center section of the handle here. Then we'll take the other piece of the handle, and it is labeled, and we'll notice there's going to be a hole. We're going to want to slide that over the spring and push the spring in until those two holes line up.Once we have that lined up, we're going to take our bolt and we're going to go through the outer section and the inner section. Once we have the bolt through, the handle shouldn't move anymore. We're going to take that lock nut on the bottom and we'll thread it on there, just getting it started. We're going to want to grab a 10 millimeter socket and wrench, and we're going to tighten that nut and bolt up.Now we're going to take the passenger section and we're going to lift up that handle and we're going to feed it through the other side going through the inside. It may be a little bit of a challenge to get everything lined up, but it is going to be a lot easier doing it this way rather than trying to have both of them together and contend with getting that spring and everything in the middle. Once you have the bar slid into the passenger side and it's all lined up, we come to the outside, we'll notice that we're going to have that green indicator sticking out. We'll know that it's lined up fully and it's fully seated if we see that. Now we're going to take that cross member piece, we're going to slide it over the spring assembly. You may have to kind of wiggle the two sections around to get it lined up, but there's going to be four holes that'll line up with each side of our slider. We're going to take the cap screws and we're going to line them up and just make sure that we can get them in there hand tight to start out. There'll be a total of four of them, two on each side. I'm going to come back with a 7/32 Allen bit and I'm going to tighten those screws up, but you don't want to fully tighten them right now, you just want to snug them up so that everything will be nice and secure. We'll come back later and torque everything down. Now on the front of our slider here, we're going to have two holes on either side of our section. We're going to have a cross member brace that's going to line up with those holes, and there's going to be one for the front as well as the back. We're going to take the included hex nuts, and right now I'm just going to get one in each corner hand tight. That way it'll support itself and we don't have to worry about it falling down. Now, these holes are slotted for slight adjustments, so we want to make sure that we line it up as best as we can. It is going to follow the contour of the slider, so just line it up with the edges. Now that we have one in each corner, we'll go ahead and put the other two bolts in. I'm going to come back with a 13/16 socket and just going to snug up that hardware. We don't want to fully tighten it down right now, just so we don't have to worry about it moving or shifting. Now that the front is done, we'll go ahead and repeat that same process for the rear of our slider. With the slider assembled now, we're going to come to the end where our two latches are on each side, and we're going to have this lynch pin here. Go ahead and take that pin out, so that way we can have this section open. We're just going to want to swing those handles open once we have the ability to get to them. You want to make sure you take those pins out so we can move those handles on each side. Then if we move into the bed of our truck, we're going to want to pull out the plugs that are in the four corner locations. We're not going to be using the center one, so we can go ahead and leave that plug in. We'll pull all these plugs out and set them aside. Now with an extra set of hands, we're going to lift our slider and we're going to walk back towards the pucks, get it close to being in its position as we can. Again, you just want to make sure those handles are out so that it can slide into the pucks. Double check that they're in there, and we may need to make some adjustments so that we can get our handles to lock in. Since we can't lock down the handle, we are going to have to remove the cotter pin here. You can just grab a pair of pliers and we'll bend them to where they're relatively straight and we can slide them out. Then we're going to want to grab a 15/16 inch wrench, and we're going to either tighten that castle nut and attempt to close the handle, or loosen it to see which way we need to go. Basically, we want to adjust that nut until the handle will close, but you want to have a little bit of tension on that nut, not enough that you're fighting it, but you want to have a little bit of tension so that it latches secure whenever we close it. Let's make some fine adjustments, and once we going to the handle at the proper tension, we can take our cotter pin, reinsert it into the castle nut, and bend it back open so we don't have to worry about it coming out. We'll do that for all four handles until we can comfortably close it with just that little bit of tension on it.With all of our T bolt handles adjusted properly to where we can open and close them, we're going to go ahead and get ready to install the head assembly. Now, our slider can work with many different fifth wheel heads. We're going to be using the Curt Q20 today. Just to make things easy, I'm just going to slide it all the way down to where it's sitting on that center weldment section. I'm going to take the bolt that came with the head, I'm going to take a lock washer, and then a flat washer and go over one bolt. Now, within the lowest position these holes are going to be pretty close to being lined up. We may have to lift up just a tad. The holes in our fifth wheel head are going to line up with a couple holes that are in the slider here. We're going to get one bolt in there just hand started. There's going to be a total of four of them. We'll have another one towards the back, and then the same two locations on the other side. We are going to be coming from the inside going out towards the slider.I'm going to come back with a 22 millimeter socket and snug up those bolts. Now I'm going to come back with that 22 millimeter socket and a torque wrench, and we want to torque all the bolts down to the specified amount in the instructions. We're going to make sure we go back and torque all of our hardware, and again, we'll find that specification in the instructions. You want to make sure you torque down those Allen bolts for the weldment section in the center as well. With the midsection torqued down, we can go ahead and put our head assembly in now and just line everything up, make sure that our pins go in the right spot. We can slide over the ring, and we'll take the large pin coming from the back side and we're going to go all the way through, making sure that the pin goes all the way through. Then, on the very back section here, it's going to have a hole, and that's where we're going to put our cotter pin at. We'll go ahead and do that on the other side as well. With our head assembly in place, we can go ahead and put our lynch pins back. Want to make sure that the handles are fully closed and the clip goes all the way around, so they can't accidentally be opened. Whether you're using the Q20 head or another head that is compatible with our slider, the process is going to be the same: assembling the slider, putting it in, then putting your head on and torquing everything down. That'll finish up your look at the Curt Q Series of fifth wheel trailer hitches with slider for the Ford towing prep package on our 2018 Ford F350 Super Duty.

Love the hitch when we are using it. It hitches easy and smoothly and the sliding mechanism works well when needed. My only complaint is when we need to take it out of the truck bed. It is very heavy and takes two people to get it to a pallet where it can be moved with my forklift. I don't think we could move it in/out of truck without something to lift it to the truck bed height. 541972

It works Great very easy to connect seems extremely strong great quality. only down side was its 2 pieces for easy removal but is still very heavy. I have a short bed so I thought I would need the slide but so far have never needed, my fifth wheel has front cap with molded corners for short beds Really wish I would have bought the same hitch with no slider. Would have been a little lighter and took up less room when in truck 584369

Couldn’t be better. It is easy to hook up and to unhook. The slider really makes it easier to back. If I had to buy another fifth wheel hitch it would be a Curt. 571841

Couldn't be happier with the hitch I bought. I have a 2016 Ford dually that came with the fifth wheel prep package and the hitch fit perfectly into the bed. Great product. ( I pull a 45 ft toy hauler by the way) 346196

I installed this into the 5th wheel prep package that comes on a 2016 Ram 3500. Although I installed the prep package myself, the CURT system dropped right in. It took me about 90 min to assemble and install the hitch system in my truck with very little adjustment. The directions were easy to follow and felt it all went very smooth. When O was finished I hooked up my RV w/o any problems. I am very pleased with this set up and would definitely install it again. The only drawback it the weight but it's to be expected w/ a 25k lb system 244447

This hitch fits like a glove! Super easy install, 6 bolts to install, base only fits one way drop in the factory holes tighten down then slide the plate into place and done. Very inpressed with how well put together the product is very happy with my Q24 truck won't take that much pulling weight but the price for the best is more security. 271074

The hitch seems to work fine for my truck/trailer. It's a heavyweight to be sure but I'll make a simple overhead hoist to lift it up while I drive under it. Piece of cake. I wanted to throw a word out there regarding shipping time. I ordered the hitch on Tuesday afternoon. It showed up at my door on Thursday afternoon. How can you possibly beat that??? I'd give etrailer.com five stars just for that!!! I'll be looking for a gooseneck hitch in the next month. Guess where I'm shopping for it? 435347

After a year of using the fifth wheel hitch Ive had no problems or issues. Still very satisfied.

I am amazed at the simplicity and durability of this product. I have three little girls four, six, seven who assisted me in putting this together in about 30 minutes. That includes the mount and reading the instructions. Onto my 20,000 pound fifth wheel and family trips. Factory polyethylene and plastic mount included in the picture 564225

Review from a similar Curt Q24 in Fifth Wheel

Ordered Curt Q-24 hitch on Wednesday, arrived Friday morning! Awesome company to deal with, & very hard to beat!!! I will take pic's of the installed hitch tomorrow morning, darkness caught up with me. The box had enough staples in it to be 10% of the shipping weight. It held together in spite of rough treatment by the shipping company. Hitch wasn't damaged in spite of rough travel conditions. I am positive it isn't etrailers fault. The hitch is perfect for our needs, we have a 39' Grand Design Solitude RV that weighs close to 16,000 lbs. Our plans are to upgrade to a 43' that will weigh around 20,000 lbs. The 24 Q Curt hitch will be part of our equipment for a long time. I looked at a lot of hitches, the B&W was the first, because of past use, but they don't make one that would be useable on a 20,000 lb. trailer in the the future. I like the way the B&W surrounds the pin with the coupler. So after a lot of research we chose the Curt Q24. The coupling method is the similar to B&W and the one the big rigs use, rather than a sliding bar like most of the other brands. Installation was easy since our Ford has the factory installed pucks in the bed. Actual work time including getting used to how the hitch functions, probably around 2 hours! I had to call etrailer once with a question, also had to call Curt directly with another question. I got great answers from both contacts! I will post pictures of the installation tomorrow during the daylight. This is the 7th time I have order from etrailer and I am sure that should I need anything they have in their catalog I will order again! They are the first place I search for info or equipment needs! Review from a similar Curt Q24 in Fifth Wheel

Hats of to E-trailer! I was in a hurry - they checked inventory for me, said they had the hitch coming in the next day and they would try to ship same day out to me, had it in 3 days. Ordered on Thursday, had it Monday and we installed and hooked up Tuesday. However, the hitch system; my installation was for a short bed 2013 Power Wagon 2500 Ram and required me to enlist multiple other professionals to install, we worked on it for 3 hours, and were so p****d off by the time we were done. We had NO room to adjust any measurements and went exactly as the directions said. If we could have had room to adjust just a 1/2 inch different it would have made it much easier. Now my exhaust is rubbing on the mount and makes a horrible noise. Curt makes a nice hitch but they should be checking quality control as most of my latches and pin holes are all slightly off and it is extremely difficult to line anything up to pin together. Also, you have to have a tiny hand to pin the slide rails to the bars. Plus it took a sledge hammer to drive the pins in and keepers. Also, I didn't need to buy a slider hitch - There is plenty of room even on my short box, to allow my 5th wheel camper to travel without hitting the cab when turning tight. And last, when towing the hitch has the feeing there is slack and jerks around that I wasn't thrilled about. 220630

Received the hitch in a few days from purchase, the boxes were beat up a bit but the contents were perfect. Assembled the hitch to the legs, then dropped it into the OEM pucks in the truck. A few quick adjustments to the locking legs and it was in place. First hookup to my trailer was a breeze, I had the hitch on the lowest setting and it was right at the right height for my trailer. Lined up and backed in, the locking mechanism snapped into place immediately, flipped the locking lever and put the snap ring in place and was ready to go. Unhooking was just as easy, no pressure on the jaws and it slid open and the trailer was free. Great value for such a heavy hitch, would buy again, etrailer was fantastic to deal with as well. 189194

This hitch is very easy to take in and out of the bed of the truck. Comes apart in 2 pieces very easily, making it fairly light weight to move. Like the yellow, green and red indicators for easy hitching and unhitching. The big issue I have is that there is not much side to side movement in the head itself, making it hard to hitch back up if the the truck or camper is not sitting fairly evenly. Was told this hitch had good side to side movement, but do not think that is true. The only side to side movement comes from the give in the bushings. 654501

Review from a similar Curt Q24 in Fifth Wheel

Great product. I used it on both a Ram 3500, and now a 17 F250 crew cab with a regular bed. Pros: Seem well built, heavy duty. Less chucking than my last hitch for an all around smoother ride. I've pulled both a 27ft and 45 ft fifth wheel travel trailer with it. Cons: Does not work with the sidewinder travel trailer adapter. You have to purchase the A-series CURT hitch to use that product. My Ram 3500 had an 8ft bed so I didn't pay attention to that at the time. Now that I have a regular bed, I thought I could just buy the sidewinder to get better clearance, but that did not work out. Note: the sidewinder wedge adapter for the A-series does not work with this hitch. 607025

I have owned this hitch over a year now it has been top quality. From the easy access freeze fittings to the smooth hook up and unhook is great. Reduces chucking as well. We towed our 16000 pound big Horn fifth wheel over a 1000 miles with no problem. Using in conjunction with mor ryde King pin and a2017 Ford F350 diesel dually. Would recommend to anyone full-time RVing such as or self's. 601994

I bought this hitch because I am a firm believer in buy heavier than I need for safety. This hitch has been absolutely wonderful. The fifth wheel pull great with no jarring and the solid feel when attached is comforting. I can easily reach everything I need to set the hitch and lock it. The jaws are very easy to tell if I am completely hooked or not and the lock works great for a quick look to tell if ready. This hitch was very well priced (cheaper than lighter rated models) without being of "cheap" quality. I have enjoyed this hitch very much and thank goodness it breaks down into pieces for removal as it is a very heavy unit. 589977

I use it to pull a ~16k lb. camper. This has performed well for a good price. The only gripe I have is it's a wee bit finicky to make this hitch lock on to the king pin at times (might require jarring the head sometimes to finish locking in). It helps to lube up the fittings of course. Cheers, 577701

We have used this 5th wheel to pull our 41 foot camper for over a year now. Not only is it easy to put in and take out of our dodge, but it is sturdy enough to handle the job thrown at it. Our family highly recommends the Curt hitch when in the market for a 5th wheel hitch. 565035
