Secure, Interlocking Two-Piece Jaw

A16 Two-Piece Interlocking Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, interlocking, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

A16 Color Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

Non-Binding Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.

With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.

With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.

Curt rebranded this fifth-wheel trailer hitch by changing its name from Q16 to A16 in 2016. All features and specifications remained the same.

Video Transcript for Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Curt line of Q series fifth wheel trailer hitches with slider for the Ford towing prep package. More and more now a days, we're seeing trucks that have shorter than eight foot beds on them, which comes in a problem when we go to tow with a fifth wheel 'cause we want our hitch to be on the forward side of our rear axle but that ends up putting our trailer extremely close to our cab. That's where our sliders gonna help out. When it comes time to make those tight turns, we can come to this vertical handle here on the side, we'll pull it out, rotate it back and that'll allow the hitch to slide back a full 12 inches giving us that clearance to go around the turn. Then it'll lock into position, so we can make that turn without fear of hitting our truck. And then, whenever we need to go in a straight line again, and we're ready to tow, simply pull that handle out again, rotate it again, and our hitch will slide back and lock into the towing position. Our slider's gonna have a weight capacity of 24 thousand pounds. But keep in mind you don't wanna exceed the weight capacity of the head that you have.

And it's always a good idea to double check your trucks owners manual and never exceed the manufacturers recommended weight. Now because of the design of the slider it's gonna have that round tube as well as some rollers which is gonna make it slide very smoothly and it's gonna have a non binding action to it so no matter what position it's in, it's gonna slide rather easily. Now on thing Curt has done is they've made it extremely easy to use our slider and safe. They put an indicator here on the end of the handle with a red stripe towards the drivers side to let us know that it's not locked in. But if we slide our slider back towards the tailgate, see the handle will lock into position and also over on the passengers side we'll have a green indicator that's sticking out letting us know that we're good to go and that it is locked in. Now this is gonna be showing whether we're in the maneuvering position or the towing position, so it's an easy indication to know what's going on.Now you'll see on the bottom of our slider here there is gonna be a green sticker towards the cab and that's gonna be the towing position because we want our hitch to be as close to the cab, locked in, when we're towing.

But if we move farther back, when it slides back we're gonna have another sticker that gonna say maneuvering and that's gonna be when we slide it back so we can go around those tight turns. Our slider is designed to be used with the Ford factory prep tow package which is gonna make it extremely easy to get in place. We're gonna have two levers on each side, held in by a simple pin and clip here. We're gonna remove the pin and we're gonna rotate our handles out towards the side of our truck and that'll unlock those legs underneath and then we'll be able to lift our slider out. And if we're putting our slider back in place, same thing. We're just gonna drop those feet down into the pucks and we're gonna rotate our levers inward and then we'll secure em with the pin and clip to make sure they won't open back up.Now the great thing about our slider is that when we're not towing or if we don't plan on towing for quite a while, we can pull that slider out and put our plugs back in place and we'll have full bed access.

And as you can see with the hitch removed we'll have full bed access and then we just put the factory plugs back in. You won't have to worry about water or debris getting inside. As far as the setup and installation it's gonna be rather straight forward. It is rather heavy so if you, you might wanna grab an extra set of hands to help you put it in place. Now as far as the heads go, there's gonna be two different variations that are gonna be available. We're gonna have the Q20 which is gonna be a 20 thousand pound gross trailer weight rating and the Q24 which is gonna have a 24 thousand pound.

Now as your gonna see, they're gonna look very similar, just the funnel area and this top skid plate is gonna be a little bit different and the main difference is gonna be that weight rating. But they're gonna install exactly the same and function exactly the same. Both of the hitches are gonna have a dual jaw design which is gonna cut down on a lot of that rattling and chucking and make for more comfortable ride. It's gonna accomplish that 'cause it's gonna have a full 360 degree contact with our king pin rather than the one piece slide bar style where that king pin can move around and there's not a full grip around it.The Y funnel on the skid plate is gonna make it easier hooking it up even if we're not directly behind our trailer. Whenever we are ready to hook up, we can come to the handle over on the drivers side and we'll have a pin and clip that we can remove and then this tethers so we don't have to worry about losing it. We'll flip this lever up and we pull our handle out and once it's out the jaws will open up. And then on the back side, just like our slider it's gonna be color coded, except there's gonna be a yellow indicator letting us know that we're ready to couple. For added security we can replace this pin and clip with a padlock, which are sold separately. And I have this piece here to simulate our trailer king pin, but as soon as we start backing up and this slides in place, it's gonna lock in and make sure that the handle goes back into the towing position. And once it's fully locked in, you're gonna rotate that latch back down and reinsert the pin and clip and we'll be ready to hit the road. Now on both of the heads they're gonna be fully articulating, which means they're gonna tilt left and right as well as front to back and that's gonna make it extremely easy to hook up on un level terrain and make for a more comfortable ride so we don't have to worry about that chucking and jarring feeling inside of our truck. The way the head is gonna be installed into the slider is we're gonna have two bolts that are gonna come from the inside going through the slider and we'll have three adjustments on the head itself. We're gonna be able to adjust from 17 inches to 21 inches and that's gonna be the measurement from the bottom of the bed to the top of the skid plate on our hitch. Now to make things a little bit easier when you do install it, the upper section is removable from the mid section. So if we come to the back there should be a pin and clip on either side and if we remove this clip, we'll be able to pull that pin out and then pull this bracket that's gonna sit over our tube here. And if we did that on both sides, we'll be able to life the head out making it a lot lighter and a lot easier to work with. Now for regular maintenance on our hitch, they provided us with a couple grease certs, so it's gonna be extremely easy to lube them up. We'll have one right underneath the jaws in the center of the funnel and then one on either side. Both hitches are also gonna come with a plastic lube plate so when we hook up to our trailer it's gonna slide on a lot easier. The Q20 is gonna have a 20 thousand pound gross trailer weight rating along with a 4 thousand pound vertical load limit. Where as our Q24 is gonna have a 24 thousand pound gross trailer weight rating along with a 6 thousand pound vertical load limit. And with all those numbers in mind, I always suggest that you double check your truck's owners manual and never exceed the manufacturer's recommended weight. So if you're looking for a fifth wheel and your truck already has the Ford factory prep package in it, these are gonna be a great option. It's gonna be straight forward and easy to use. And that'll finish up your look at the Curt Q Series line of fifth wheel trailer hitches with slider for the Ford towing prep package.

Fifth wheel jaws grave a lot of slack, when stopping and staring trailer slams forward and backwards. I bought the slider due to having a short bed truck and never used it 1 time in a little less than a year. Hitch also rusted within a few months. Hitch is unbelievably heavy, it required at least 2-3 people to remove or install. I have sold the hitch and installed the Reese goose box on my fifth wheel and like it so far. I love not having the heavy hitch in my truck all the time. 604885

I LOVE my sliding hitch. Prior to this, I had a standard hitch and it was difficult to make some sharp turns with my 5th wheel RV due to a short bed in my pickup. The sliding hitch has solved this problem - I haven't had a turn that made me cringe thinking the camper would hit the cab! The only difficulty I have had is pulling the release to set the slide in motion has been a bit tough, but I think it will become easier the more it is used. I would encourage anyone with a 5th wheel RV to buy this type of hitch versus a standard. 612012

Product is solid and secure. As noted in other reviews, it seems to clunk at times with the rubber bushings. I have had a few issues with the jaws closing securely. Sometimes it takes more than one attempt to successfully get the jaws to lock. I have a shortbed truck and this setup was said to be a must. My trailer's nose is scalloped (2013 Arctic Fox) and I have yet to need to slide the hitch to the rear, including tight turns etc. Now, what little space I had is wasted on this set up. 614753

2018 Dodge Journey

Curt A16 with Slider base for Ford OEM Pucks I went through a good bit of anxiety after trading my 2013 F-250 for a 2018 F-250 due to the height of the 2018. I did not pay close enough attention to bedrail and rear height and I was beside myself sick over it so this review might be a bit long while I explain my journey. I replaced a 2013 F-250 4WD with a Reese Pro Series 16K square tube slider universal mount with a 2018 F-250 with OEM pucks. I pull a 2015 Prime Time Crusader 315RST. I measured, I had boards with levels, mock up on hitch height, I read every forum and article I could find and still I was worried I had made a big mistake. Finally, I called eTrailer and talked to Molly and she had, (or went and got) plenty of answers as I had narrowed it down to the B&W BWRVK3370 20K Companion Slider and the Curt A12. I decided to not go for the “the most expensive is better” and went with the Curt A12 saving me about $300. The 20K B&W was the smallest they had and with an F-250 I would never really come close to that weight before I passed the GCVW limit so it made no sense. The Slider base for the Curt says it is the same base used up to 24K so if I ever do I can just buy the new head I believe. Ordered on a Saturday it arrived on Thursday at noon. No issues with shipping at all, the hitch came in 2 boxes strapped to a pallet. No damage like others experienced. Assembly took me about an hour because it is heavy and awkward to line up the slider linkage but all in all nothing too difficult. I set the hitch head mount at the 2nd from the bottom (18 inch) hitch height because I had measured the truck and camper and was worried about having 6 inches of clearance camper to bed rail. Turns out on a 2018 F-250 4WD at the 18-inch level on the hitch I have 8 inches all around and 7 inches at the highest point on the tailgate. After I installed the hitch and put the camper on the truck and applied weight I got about 3-4 inches of squat, which made the already rear high truck sink to near level. I do have more nose high attitude on the trailer than I had before but it was not terrible. I moved the height adjustment down to the 17 inch (lowest) today to lessen the nose high attitude by another inch and I have 6+ inches clearance still. The hitch. Like I said before I had a Reese Pro Series 16K slider and it was noisy as hell. Kingpin clunk starting and stopping, creak at every bump and turn. I put the Curt A16 in and took the trailer for a drive with the rear slider window open and heard nothing. Absolutely nothing. No start/stop clunk, no creaking, nothing. Hook up was very easy and the interlaced kingpin jaws make visual check very easy. Operating the slide takes a bit more effort but it worked fine and locked securely. It did not latch back to maneuver and then back again to towing automatically like the video without jostling the handle a little but I am sure it will once broken in and I grease it a bit more. The puck system was easy to adjust and make a solid connection to the truck with no play. I could not be more pleased with the hitch. Cons- The hardware was packaged like one would expect and it was all there but the bolt for the center connection of the slider linkage was different than the handle and passenger side joints. It is too small and caused a lot of play. I used it anyway but it allows play in the handle and not firm for unlatching. I will replaced it today and now it works great. eTrailer is now my go to store for trailering supplies. 613767

Good product. Fits my truck and works well pulling my 12,000 lb 5th wheel. The only complaint is the rubber wedge does not hold up against chucking of the hitch. It is already degraded and needs replacing. Otherwise a solid hitch. 609310

2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Suggestions would be: make it easier to lock/unlock. DEFINITELY recommend if being installed individually to use some sort of nut lock "glue", or make sure you check each time you stop and make sure nothing has come loose. We made a trip back from SD to Tx. When we got home, one whole nut had come completely off and all but one, were prettyloose. VERY SCARY!!!! Didn't take pictures because we were exhausted after a 25hr, straight thru drive. Don't know if having it professionally installed would've helped. We had a professional install it for us. 586013

Heavy, but easy to assemble and install. Great service from etrailer.com from order to shipping. This is a heavy slider, so moving it out of the truck bed is challenging. Works as advertised. Good choice for short-bed pickup trucks. 525134

Slider hitch works well for our setup. Add a little grease and it is quiet when moving out of or into tow position.

I am writing this review more for etrailer, than for the hitch. I am happy with the hitch, and it is what I expected, but more than that, I am happy with the support that etrailer personnel provided. They researched the product, gave me all the options, and made sure that it was exactly what we needed. It is rare to find the level of support that etrailer gives their customers, and great prices to go with it! 466656

The hitch has worked very well and the swivel head makes for a smooth ride. My only complaint is that the stickers that indicate locked positions. Faded after a month and are now white.....but not a big deal. 411807

Customer service for product selection and order entry were excellent and focused on my interests and needs. The hitch, custom installation kit, and harness were shipped very quickly and arrived sooner than expected. Everything arrived in excellent condition. Assembly and installation instructions were very clear and specific, and I was able to assemble and install everything with no problems and in a very reasonable amount of time. Total cost was roughly half of what it would have been if I had purchased the products and had them installed by a dealer. I am very satisfied with my experience dealing with etrailer.com, and would highly recommend them to anyone shopping for towing products. 294100

Overall I am impressed with the product and the service etrailer provides. The shipping was fast and the prices vs local competitors was cheaper. I actually installed the same day I received the hitch. Unfortunately my fith wheel head has a small dent in it, I would assume from shipping, and my hardware bag was ripped open scattering throughout the box. To my surprise no hardware was missing. The dent did aggravate me a little as to the price of the product, but will not effect the performance. Etrailer did double box all three packages the shipped which was nice, however I'm not sure they'll make a profit with the amount of staples used in packaging haha. Overall happy to have great reviews on great products to help aid in the decision of my purchase of the Curt slider 16k fith wheel. Fits nicely in my 2013 Silverado 2500 short bed with my fold back cover still functioning when not in use. I did find during installation that the heat shield worked best for me bent up than cut, also I did remove the wheels for easier access but not a necessity. There might need to be clarity on the hardware not being used via instructions, and on the bed rib spacers on the diagram. Very pleased with my purchase and will recommend etrailer in the future. 479630

I like the dual jaws. They hold the king pin tighter than the slide bar style. I also like the color coded hook indicator on the front, although a complete visual inspection should be done each time you hook. The only shortcomings I can see are the height, it's a little short even on the highest adjustment, and the quality of the Chinese fasteners leave a little to be desired. Other than that, it pulls securely and quietly. It couples and uncouples very smoothly. Overall it is a nice heavy duty piece. 137021

The first one I bought had some internal problems and became very loose around the kingpin when towing. I talked to an Etrailer rep and he put me in touch with the Curt manufacturer directly who sent me a new hitch and had me send the old one back at no expense to me. I was very pleased with Etrailers and Curts customer service. They listened, understood, and solved the problem very quickly once it was identified. Thank you, and I WILL look to you for my further trailer needs.

I received my new hitch, slider package and puck system legs for my Ram 2500 and had it installed in about 2 hours. Backed up to my camper and connected with no problems once I got the camper king pin at the correct height. I like the overlapping jaws on this hitch much better my old hitch which didnt overlap. This just feels more secure. The hitch released and uncoupled with no problems. I'll be taking a trip with it soon and will know more about how it feels with 11,000 pounds connected to it but for now, very happy with my purchase. I cant submitt my review without adding some kudo's to etrailer and their customer service team. I had ordered a different hitch but had second thoughts as to it being a good match for my truck. One call to customer service confirmed my thoughts and i had a different system on order and delivered in 3 days. Awesome team. 488531

Still very happy with this setup. Have pulled our camper from South Georgia to the panhandle twice and as far north as Michigan since my first review. It works great and feels very secure when connected.

Purchased this hitch, install kit, and wiring harness for a new to me 2015 F-250. After watching the installation video and reviewing the included instructions the install went smoothly. The only deviation from the instructions was instead of using a unibit to drill the 9/16" holes in the bed I used a Rotobroach hole cutter(the holes are cleaner and the bit does not drift. I hooked in to my fifth wheel for the first time on Saturday. 696986

This is my first fifth wheel. I have a short bed so I got the package deal with the hitch and the slider. Took me about 5 hrs to install with the custom mounting brackets and rails for my 2015 chevy 2500 HD. Everything went as the instructions said without any issues. I have only pulled my RV with it one time just to try it out. Felt very smooth no rattles or pops as I have herd with other hitches. So far I like it a lot. 414028

The Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider for Ford Towing Prep Package # C16520-16020 as you stated is a confirmed fit for your truck. You can tow your friends and family's campers with this hitch allowing you the turning clearance needed. This will also work with a Sidewinder as long as you keep it locked in the front towing location at all times and use the wedge # C16992. • Should Curt Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Rollers be Greased
You don't actually want to grease the tubes that the hitch slides along. Technically those tubes are really just guides for the hitch to go along. The actual part you want moving is the rollers going along those tubes. Now you can add a little white lithium grease, like part # L11350, on the shoulder bolts that hold the rollers in place. And I mean a little because it certainly doesn't need much. It's such a small amount that it isn't something Curt even mentions as far as regular...

  • Can Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch be Used in 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty Long Bed With Factory Puck System
The Curt 5th Wheel Round Tube Slider # C16020 that makes up the base of the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider for Ford Towing Prep Package # C16520-16020 will fit in the factory puck system of your 2019 Ford F-350 but I highly recommend getting a fixed hitch. The reason is that the moving parts in a sliding hitch are going to be noisier than a fixed hitch, as well as a lot heavier than a fixed hitch so it will be more difficult to install and remove from your F-350's truck bed. So...

  • Cause of Noise When Using Curt A16 Fifth Wheel in 2016 Ford F-250
The noise that you are hearing is common for fifth wheel hitches, particularly sliding hitches such as the Curt A16 # C16520-16020 and there is not going to be a way for you to eliminate that noise. There will be a bit of play between the jaws of your hitch and the king pin, so when you are taking off and braking the "clunking" you are hearing will be more pronounced.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2017 Ford F-350 with Factory Rails that is Easier to Remove
The Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # C16520-16020 weighs approximately 254 pounds and the Curt Q20 # C16530-16020 weighs in at 278 pounds. The Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch # DM8550024 is a bit heavier than both the Curt models at 289 pounds. All of these sliding 5th wheel hitches are confirmed to fit the factory rail kit on the 2017 Ford F-350 with a 6-3/4 foot bed. If weight is a concern, I do recommend looking at either of the Curt models. This is because on...

  • Curt 16k Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Ford F-250 Short Bed with Rail Kit
Since your 2018 Ford F-250 is a short bed you'll want a slider hitch to give you the clearance you need to make tight turns. The Husky Hitch part # HT31313-31314 is a fixed hitch so it would not be ideal for you. Instead for a 16k hitch that fits the rail kit of your truck direcly and wouldn't require an adapter we have the Curt 16k hitch part # C16520-16020 which has a much nicer jaw design than the Husky you mentioned so it will provide a smoother ride quality overall.

This sliding hitch will attach directly to the OEM underbed platform on your truck. It has a gross towing capacity of 16,000 pounds and a nice interlocking 2-jaw system for excellent jaw-to-king-pin contact. I have attached a video demonstration on this product for you to check out. The A series of Curt fifth wheel hitches are actually an upgrade from the Q series and have a tighter grabbing jaw system so if anything going from an A16 to a Q20 would add more noise. The quietest option we have that fits the factory pucks of your 2019 Ford F-250 with the factory rail kit is going to be the B and W Companion Slider part # BWRVK3370. The Companion hitches have a reputation as being the best on the market due to how quiet they are (best jaw design), how well they are...

The best Curt 5th wheel hitch we have for your 2019 Ford F-250 is the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider part # C16520-16020. This hitch will fit directly into the pucks on your truck bed which means no adapters will be needed. I personally like the A-Series because it has a set of 1" thick dual interlocking jaws which forms a very tight grip on the kingpin therefore making for a smooth ride, a one pin head removal system that allows for the hitch to be removed in two pieces which...

  • How to Tell If 2019 Ford F-250 Has Factory 5th Wheel Rail or Prep Package
The factory rail/prep kit for the 2019 Ford F-250 refers to an integrated puck system in the bed that allows certain 5th wheel hitches or gooseneck balls to mount directly to them, eliminating the need for standard above-bed base rails like what are traditionally used to install a hitch. This allows for a completely clean bed once the hitch itself is removed and less moving parts so I definitely recommend going this route if able. The other 16k sliders require an adapter. Between the two Curt hitches I recommend the A16 because of the interlocking dual jaw.
