Simple, Secure Hookup

E16 5th Wheel Jaw

With a dual-pivoting head that offers 10 degrees of lateral movement, the E16 fifth-wheel hitch makes hookup a snap, even on unlevel ground. Once the king pin slides into the hitch, the auto-locking, slide-bar jaw secures it in place. A unique feature of the E16 is the rear steel tension bar within the jaw that activates upon hookup to clamp down on the king pin, providing a tighter grip that maximizes security and minimizes rattle.


Non-Binding Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.


The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.


With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.


With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.

Video Transcript for Curt Fifth Wheel - Sliding Fifth Wheel - C16515-16020 Review

Today we're going to review the Curt E16 fifth wheel trailer hitch with the slider for the Ford towing prep package vehicles. It has a 16,000 lbs. weight capacity. This is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the Ford F-250 and F-350 super duty trucks with the 6-3/4' bed, and have the factory rail kit in them. This is for years of vehicles starting in 2011.

What I would recommend on any custom fit part is to always go to our website, use our fit guide. Put in your year and model vehicle, and it will show you if this will work for your application. This fifth wheel hitch will mount in your truck bed, so you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. This part includes this hitch head, and the slider as shown here. I am demonstrating it on this display stand that has the under-bed rails attached to it that would be on your Ford truck. This is going to show you how it is attached in your truck bed.

It has a built-in slider right here. This will provide the clearance that is required for your short bed truck to turn safely at slow speeds. It does slide very smoothly on these rounded, non-binding rods. The slider handle that will lock and unlock the slider .. it is color coded, and I'm going to show you in a minute the color on it.

Right here, since it's locked in the tow position right now, this green ring is showing on this side of the handle. That means it's locked and you can tow with it. When you pull this handle out to slide it, there will be a red ring over here that will show. When that red ring will show, that means you don't want to do any towing because it's unlocked. The slider is not in the locked position. This does use, as I mentioned, the rail-free design.

This uses the . it's made to mount into the Ford factory under-bed rails like I'm showing here. If there's no rails in the truck bed, when you remove the hitch from your truck bed, it will allow you free and full access to your truck bed. This does use an auto-locking slide bar jaw right here. This will provide superior security. The rear tension bar, right in here, works with the slide bar right up here to clamp around your king pin . helps minimize rattle and any movement in the head. This is a easy to remove, and you can actually do it with one person. You can take these clips off and these two pins. Remove the head. If you open these up, you can remove the slider from there . makes it very easy for one person to remove it and give you the full access to your truck bed. It does use a dual pivoting head . goes front-to-back. The skid plate goes side-to-side as a 10 degree lateral movement for simple hook up. It does use permalube pivot pushings on the head. It increases your hitch life and reduces maintenance. The skid plate is an anti-rattle skid plate, provides a nice, smooth, quiet ride. We do recommend to use a nylon lube plate when you're hooking up. This one does not come with it. We do list one. We sell one separately that's listed on this product pages of related product. It's part number 16721. We recommend to use that on your king pin, because when you do, that'll help prevent scratches on the skid plate and lets the king pin glide a lot more smoother into the hitch during hook-up. Installing this into the truck bed is a pretty fast and easy installation. Basically what you'll do is open up these handles right here, unlock the pin, and then just turn the handle 90 degrees. You'll do the same on that side. Once you've turned it 90 degrees, that'll unlock those tabs, and then you'll be able to lift this out of the pucks that are in you under-bed rails. When you go to install it, just drop it . Leave it open like that. Drop it in to the pucks on the under-bed rails. Turn these 90 degrees, and that'll turn the tabs on those pins, and it'll lock it into place. Then just put your pin through the first handle. Make sure it goes through the second handle. Clip it into place, and that holds the latches into place. That'll keep it locked into place . Very simple installation. All this is a nice sturdy steel construction. It has a nice carbide black finish to it. A few specs . The gross towing weight capacity is 16,000 lbs. Vertical load limit, or pin-weight capacity is 4,000 lbs. The amount of travel with the slider is 12" front-to-back. Basically, I will first show you how the head would work, so I got an example of a king pin here. This is what the king pin would look like that's on your pin-box of your trailer. First thing you want to do is . Your handle right here it's pointing down, so it's in the locked position. What you'll do is just flip it up 180 degrees. If you notice, I also want to match in the tabs right here. They got holes here and hole in this one. When it's down position, the holes line up so you can actually put a padlock through there, if you want to secure it so nobody can get into it. You just lift it up 180 degrees, pull out . when you pull out enough, it will lock it into place. Basically, this tension bar will hold that slide bar open. Now you're ready to hook up to your trailer. You just back it up until your king pin on the . the pin box would slide right into place, pushes up against that tension bar, and when it does that it releases the slide bar, which comes all the way across, holds it into place. That tension bar still keeps tension on the king pin, keep any noise or rattle from happening. If you notice, the handle goes . Once it's locked, it flops down into place. Again, you can put a lock in there to secure it, and you'd be ready to go. If you want to move this . If you're towing and you pull into a campground, and you need to maneuver in your short bed truck around tight maneuvers, you want to have some more clearance so you're trailer doesn't hit your cab. You cab would be right back here. What you'll do, is just pull the handle open if you want to go into maneuvering, and just turn it. Turn the handle towards the cab, back this way. As I mentioned . Let me turn it a little bit, just so you can see. If you notice right here, there's a red ring now showing. That means it's unlocked. With it unlocked, that means this can slide the 12" towards the truck tail gate. Once it hits the right position, it'll lock it into place. Again, as I mentioned, once it's locked automatically into place on this side you'll see a green ring around the handle . Rod right there, and that means it's locked, so you're ready to move the trailer around. Once you're done maneuvering, and you want to hook back up and tow . Same way. The only thing different, is you'll take the handle out, and when you pull it out, you'll want to turn the handle towards the trailer the other way. That way when you're backing up and you're moving into position, it's going into the tow position. You can see it'll lock right into the tow position. Now you're all ready to go. That should do it for the review on the Curt E16 fifth wheel trailer hitch with the slider for the Ford towing prep package and has a 16,000 lb. weight capacity.

Doesn't operate as easily as I hoped. Sticks when trying to slide which means jumping in and out of cab many times. Also its heavy as it should be,but it doesn't come apart easily for removal in two pieces that can be lifted separately. You need a winch to remove it safely. Its a pain in the you know what. I like my old two piece hitch better. I could take it in and out in a few minutes, but it won't work in my new f350. 468569

First of all, etrailer was awesome to work with while I tried to determine what hitch I wanted, they get 5 starts. As for the hitch, installation was easy and while I feel the hitch works just fine, I would prefer one with "jaws" that lock. I would feel better if it did. That being said, I ordered this hitch simply because it was the lowest one I could find and after using it on several trip, it gets the job done. It can be locked and it easily opens and closes. 551286

Update, I still wish this hitch locked. It seems to have some slap in it. It doesnt really hurt anything, however its very noticeable when backing the trailer up. The hitch pin feels like it kind of bounces for lack of a better word against the hitch itself because of how the retaining mechanism is designed. We camp in the summer and are not full time RVers. I would not recommend this if I was a full time RVer.

Arrived in three boxes. The largest looked as though Ace Ventura was the delivery man. However all the parts were inside. Took me two full hours to assemble, install, inspect and adjust. Clearly a formidable hitch for my '19 Silverado HD with PUCK system. Thankfully I have a pulley system in the garage to install/remove the entire hitch in one piece. The weight on this hitch is no joke. If you take the hitch out during non-use a pulley or hoist of some sort is a must. This is replacing a Husky which had a slightly different locking system but the Curt is rock solid and will be a great hitch for years to come. Excellent price, assembly was a challenge but the instructions were very good. One problem: the included (4) rubber shims were too thick preventing me from inserting any of the rail pins between the rail and PUCK adapter. So I didn't use them. 605695

  • Although it is not ideal, you can couple your trailer to the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider part # C16515-16020 while slid back away from the cab. If you are just referring to the pin box portion of the trailer then you can use the Stromberg Carlson 4000 Series 5th Wheel Louvered Tailgate part # VG-15-4000 to give you more clearance and this is what I recommend if you only have 2" with the hitch slide up towards the cab
